House Cloakroom Report: January 17-23

After the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Holiday, the House will reconvene tomorrow afternoon for legislative business. The majority of the week will be devoted to legislation repealing Obamacare. The vote, scheduled for Wednesday, will kick off with seven hours of debate on Tuesday, followed by additional seven hours of debate on Wednesday before the final vote will be taken. This comes on the heels of over half of states now suing to stop Obamacare [1] as a continuing number of governors and Americans recognize the damaging impact the legislation will have on their states [2]. Remaining legislative business for the week will include further organizational meetings for formation of the standing committees as well as committee hearings on various issues.

Major Floor Action:

  • H.R. 2 [3] (PDF) – Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act

Major Committee Action:

  • The House Ways & Means [4] Committee will hold a full committee hearing on “Fundamental Tax Revision” and will also hold an organizational meeting.
  • The House Judiciary [5] Committee will hold a full committee hearing on “Medical Liability Issues” and will also hold an organizational meeting.
  • The House Foreign Affairs [6] Committee will hold a full committee briefing on “China’s Impacts on US Interests”
