“You don’t magically become a Tea Partier – it’s a journey,” says Mary Kass, president of The Greater New Orleans Tea Party. The grassroots activist and mother of three is this week’s Heritage Foundation Featured Facebook Fan, and she speaks from experience. (You can read Mary’s full story and become a Heritage Facebook Fan by clicking here.)
When Mary Kass originally told her father that she planned to join the Tea Party, the retired World War II veteran worried that an all-out media assault aimed at smearing the movement could lead to his daughter being harmed.
“I told him ‘Dad, you had your fight on Iwo Jima. This is a much different kind of fight, but it’s my fight,’” Kass said. When you read about this week’s Featured Fan on Facebook, you’ll learn that joining the Tea Party isn’t just a battle for truth, but a life-changing experience centered on love for country. Are you a supporter of the Tea Party movement? Tell us about it on our Facebook page.

As a member of the GNOTP, Mary has been a God sent from a leadership standpoint. She has had adversity and trials in her personal life and yet her steadfast approach to leadership has been both admirable and inspiring. I believe that God definitely sent Mary for such a time as this and that our city, our region and our country are better off because of Mary. Thank you Mary for all that you've done and all that you continue to do for the love of your family and your country. God Bless you!

Mary's story is one I have heard over and over again about the Tea Party, much unlike what you hear from the Main Stream Media. We are not the radical right wing of the republican party. We are mostly conservatives, moderates and independents that see our government out of control.
The Tea Party core values and goals are to return financial responsibility to our government, limited the size of government according to the constitution and promote a free market system. Although there are many other agendas on the conservative side, the Tea Party is only interested in these main goals. The Tea Party is a big tent for those that belief in our core values and we hope to keep it that way.
congratulations, well done.
Two Tea Partier Thoughts
First; Krauthammers idea of not defunding parts of Obama-care is a poor idea, it is more politics as usual; if something is wrong, defund it and at the same time put the correcting purposed law on the table, there by putting the monkey on the Democrats back, and make sure all real Republicans have the same message on it.
Secound; With the price of oil spiking now the Speaker of the House needs to meet with the Minority Leader of the Senate, draft a plan that will release oil from the reserves whenever the price of crude exceeds $70-75 a barrel, and a plan B that will allow drilling in public owned land to replenish supplies if needed with all royalities going into the robbed S S Fund. They need to hype up the fact that they will make a major anouncement and then air the plan, without any leaking before.
Thanks Heritage for interviewing Mary. In Mary, the GNOTP has a smart, intelligent, dedicated member who can get things done. The average person could not do the things she does for our local Tea Party. She a true soldier for our cause. Keep up the Great work you do for us Mary.
