  • Environmentalists New Plan Same as Old Plan: Higher Energy Costs, Fewer Jobs

    The Washington Post‘s Juliet Eilperin reported yesterday that “U.S. environmentalists are engaged in their most profound bout of soul-searching in more than a decade” and are planning to “redirect strategies” in the coming year. Faced with the failure of cap and trade and the defeat of “many of their political allies on both the state and federal level” the enviros are shifting focus away from “the toxic partisanship of Washington” and back to “the grass roots.” And just what type of grass roots activism will the left be pursuing at the local level? Eilperin reports:

    The Sierra Club, meanwhile, is bolstering its long-standing campaign to block the construction of power plants across the country, assembling a team of 100 full-time employees to focus on the issue in 45 states.

    Our national unemployment rate is 9.8% and the Sierra Club is investing their resources in blocking new power plan construction. The Sierra Club is blocking not only the jobs needed to build power plants, but they are also ensuring hiring energy costs for the entire economy. No wonder “many of their political allies on both the state and federal level” got shellacked at the polls last month.

    But really, this strategy is no different than the one they pursued in Washington over the past two years. Both cap and trade and renewable energy standards, the two biggest environmentalist pushes on Capitol Hill, are premised on the same idea: decreasing carbon emissions by raising energy costs. As the Center for Data Analysis has documented both polices would kill millions of American jobs over the next 25 years.

    According to the CDA, cap and trade would cause:
    1) Net annual job losses of 1.9 million in 2012 and 2.5 million by 2035
    2) Single-year GDP losses reaching $400 billion by 2025 and will exceeding $700 billion by 2035;
    3) 90% higher household electric rates and 58% higher gas prices

    According to the CDA, a renewable electricity standard would:
    1) Raise electricity prices by 36 percent for households and 60 percent for industry;
    2) Cut national income (GDP) by $5.2 trillion between 2012 and 2035;
    3) Cut national income by $2,400 per year for a family of four;
    4) Reduce employment by more than 1,000,000 jobs; and
    5) Add more than $10,000 to a family of four’s share of the national debt by 2035.

    1. George Colgrove, VA says:

      This amounts to frivolous legal action against America. These groups are abusing the legal system to snuff out our economy. Effectively taking America down from within.

      The danger in blocking these actions will give birth to government bodies blocking more legit actions by us against them for their internal mismanagement or corruption. We need to devise a way to stop these warrantless actions against progress at the same time allow similar actions against big government activities against us. With people like Soros, the leftist have near bottomless pockets to keep on hammering us on the legal front until we have nothing left to defend ourselves. They lost the congress and now they are circumventing it altogether to get to the same ends.

      At some point this internal attack on America has got to be stopped. This stuff has gone on way too long.

    2. Blaine Mesa,AZ says:

      The Environmental lobby will use any means necessary to promote their agenda and we are ignoring the facts. They forget that our economy is just as important but they simply don't care how their green agenda gets done.

      This is clear attempt to use government to redistribute wealth to people who haven't earned it.

      Thanks for some quality points there. I am kind of new to online , so I printed this off to put in my file, any better way to go about keeping track of it then printing?

    4. Lloyd Scallan (New O says:

      The people of this nation had better wake up soon and realize as long as Obama

      is in the White House, we all face not only astronomical increases on energy cost, but higher prices of every aspects our lives from food the tolit paper. We will be forced to give up necessaries that make our lives comfortable, such as heating and A/C.

      Obama has basically shut down the oil and gas industry. He has pledged to shut down the coal indursty. He, and his radical invironmentialist, will not allow nuclear power plants to operate without crippling regulations. What's left, Fire? Oh, we can't use fire because in adds to air pollution. He wants to take away our guns so we will not be able to hunt for our food.

      Wake-up Americans, Obama agenda is to completely distroy this nation from the inside by forcing us all into his socialist utopia of government control over every pary of our lives.

      Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

    6. Spring City, PA says:

      Seeing in print on one page some of the possible outcomes of the continuing approach of most enviromentalists to the world around us, simply confirms what I have believed for many years: The bulk of them border on being insane. Most of them refuses to read the works of any scientists who might strongly disagree with them based upon realiable scientific studies of the issues. Fifteen years ago, I thought that enviromentalists were certainly on the right tracks for helping to improve this old world. Some of what some of them do, does head in that direction. But, when it comes to such things as Global Warming and Carbon Footprints, reliable science reveals their thinking to be what I believe it to be: Insanity. I have read many books from different perspectives on these subjects, but until the so-called enviromentalist movement answers with non-refutable science the science of the people in the book "The Deniers", by Lawrence Solomon, I remain unmoved by their approaches and pleas. In fact, how they tend to think and act literally makes me sick in the stomach.

    7. Eddie G. Henderson,N says:

      The Sierra Club wants to use a 100 employees to block power plant construction.

      These people are total hypocrites. I doubt if any member of the Sierra Club staff lives by candlelight. How many have no TV or a PC in their home? In fact how many live in houses versus tents? How many own no automobile? This fraudulent organization has been duping their donors for years that they do as a mission to pursue protection of the environment while accomplishing none of that.

      The gulf oil spill dragged on while the Sierra Club with all their financial resources did nothing nor could. The money they get from suckers goes to line their executive's pockets. They'll continue their war on legitimate businesses until courageous congressional members vs the existing wet blankets call the Sierra Club on their fraud and shut them down when their sucker donors finally get some smarts and get tired of paying $3 on up for gas or high home utility bills that need not be.

    8. Charlie Coombs, TX says:

      Mr. Colgrove makes a cogent point. Governor Rick Perry of Texas is offering a possible solution (at http://tinyurl.com/2cu8bl7) in the form of a modified "loser pays" system. As the system now stands, attorneys can punish (by deprivation of property) anyone they choose to sue, regardless of whether they've done anything wrong. Perry's plan should mitigate that. The fact, btw, that lawyers are howling mad over this idea should validate it in the eyes of most Americans.

    9. Hi Desert Ed, On the says:

      The Sierra Club and their ilk will continue on their socially destructive way right up to the day when they go bankrupt – because there won't be enough people left with the disposable income to support their nut-burger agenda.

      In California they want to destroy all the dams (source of hydro-electric power) "They're Not Green" – because of the claim that the dams are causing changes in the water temperature, making it too cold for the fish to successfully spawn.

      These are the same people who are screaming "global warming" loud enough to drown out the reasoned debate on "climate change".
