  • Morning Bell: The Tea Party is Back

Two hundred and thirty-seven years ago last night, a group of colonists disguised as Indians boarded British merchant ships and dumped an estimated £10,000 worth of tea into Boston Harbor. This Boston Tea Party, which John Adams described as the “grandest event which has ever yet happened since the controversy with Britain opened,” was not just a protest about taxation. Our forefathers did not destroy tea because of a simple tax dispute. The 1773 Tea Party were protesting the process by which the British government taxed them. They were fundamentally rejecting the way the British were governing them.

Last night, the spirit of the Tea Party won another major victory when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D–NV) was forced to drop his $1.27 trillion, 1,924-page omnibus spending bill. The problem with Reid’s omnibus spending bill was not just its size—although our federal government does spend far too much of other people’s money—but the way it was drafted and forced on the American people. For far too long our Congress has amassed more and more spending power into fewer and fewer legislative acts while waiting until the last possible minute to consider them. Lobbyists have made an entire business model out of identifying must-pass appropriations and tax bills and then getting pliant Members of Congress to insert their special breaks, loopholes, and giveaways. The omnibus collapse was a complete rejection of that way of doing business in Washington. Senator John McCain (R–AZ) told National Review: “I know this is a seminal moment, because for the first time since I’ve been here, we stood up and said ‘enough.’”

Last night’s victory could not have happened without the Tea Party. Earlier in the day, Tea Party–defeated outgoing- Senator Robert Bennett (R–UT) was working “actively to round up as many as nine potential Republican votes” for the omnibus bill stuffed with 6,000 earmarks worth $8 billion. But then Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R–KY) worked the phones all day twisting the arms of those nine Republicans, many of them members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, to drop their support for the bill. It was not an easy sell. Senator Thad Cochran (R–MS), the ranking member of the Appropriations Committee, had 281 earmarks worth $561 million in the bill. McConnell himself had 48 earmarks worth $113 million. But wisely, these lawmakers eventually saw the light. McConnell told National Review afterward: “We decided that we’re not going to pass a 2,000-page bill that nobody has seen since yesterday. That’s not the way to operate and that’s not the message from the November elections.”

Tea Party activists across the country should take a moment to celebrate this victory. But only a moment. Not all of the 111th Congress has gotten the message of the November elections. Too many on Capitol Hill seem to be operating under the belief that the American people voted in November to have President Barack Obama’s agenda shoved down their throats in December. The Hill reports: “Democrats will move instead to two high priorities on their legislative agenda: the DREAM Act, which would grant permanent legal residency to illegal immigrants under a certain age, and a repeal of the military’s ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy.” And let’s not forget the Boxer–Reid Land Grab and New START.

None of these issues demands resolution by a Congress that was “shellacked” at the polls last month. According to Gallup, the American people dislike this 111th Congress more than any other Congress in history. Specifically, a full 83 percent of Americans disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job, while only 13 percent approve. That is the worst approval rating in more than 30 years of tracking congressional job performance. Last night Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D–CA) House voted to prevent a massive tax hike on the American people. It now looks like Congress will pass a simple bill that freezes spending through February of next year. The 111th Congress has no mandate; they must go home and let the Tea Party Congress govern.

Yeah!!! Yeah!! Yeah!!! We need to stay on them and continue to dismantle their power.. Great Job!!!

    2. Ken Jarvis - Las Veg says:

The AP calls it a -

      "reach across party lines"

      It was NOT,

it was a SURRENDER TO MURDOCH. and the Rich.

They GOT What they wanted, and to hell with the rest of us.

      A Pittance to us Pee-on's.

      Class Warfare.

Of course, the is Class Warfare.

      Murdoch represents the RICH,

but WHO represents the Rest of USA?

    3. Russell, Roanoke VA says:

All I can say is ..yeeee haaaa….

Now let's keep the heat on..

    4. NeoConVet says:

The Republicans who are Conservative will need to listen to the people they supposedly represent. Their choice is to move hard to Conservative outlined values OR face the Formation of a 3rd Party!

We are not interested in so-called compromise or common ground! The leftist always squeal for compromise when they are reduced in power. Considering the damage to the nation by this out of control 111th Congress and a leftist WH with a compliant regulating beauracrcy, now is not the time for common ground!

    5. Richard Cancemi, Arl says:

When are ALL Republicans going to wake up to the Rule of the People! Are they just plain stupid? People are sick and tired of all these earmarks, back-room deals, and unread legislation proposals.

We know the Democrats have morphed into a Marxist Socialist Party. One only has to listen to the rants of the likes of Rep. Wiener preaching his class warfare. They are the enemy of the people!

The Republicans need to embrace the Tea party Principles and stop their nonsense!

      Conservatism = Americanism.

    6. John Case, Brentwood says:

What seemed to me to be the strangest thing about this omnibus bill was that it originated in the Senate. I always thought thar spending bills got their start in the House. But since Ms. Pelosi did not want to do a budget (if she had, no Democrat at all would have been re-elected) I guess she deferred to the ever rapidly feebling Mr. Reid.

      Thanks for the article

    7. toledofan says:

I agree that it's time for them to close up shop and just go home; enough damage has already been done. I guess the real sad part of all this is that many in both parties still don't get it, I mean how could any Republican actually vote for something that was 2000 pages long without reading it, didn't they learn their lesson from the healthcare debacle or the November elections?. Any legislation on the table, except for extending the budget, should be shelved until January and handled in the righrt way.

    8. George Colgrove, VA says:

Brace for another impact though. These guys are not done yet.

It is refreshing to see we are having an impact! The people are back in control! Now let us see if we can reduce the size and scope of the federal government by 36% so that we no longer go into further debt. In 2010, the United States federal overspent extorted tax revenue by 36%.

This level of cuts will not bring any money back to the country in the form of "real" tax cuts, as we will be continuing to spend the "cash" we are right now. We need to cut even deeper to provide stimulus that counts. Deeper cuts will allow for paying off the debt and providing actual tax cuts. People should be allowed to keep their own money and spend it as they wish – not leaving it up to some expensive bureaucrat in DC to decide.

Just keep in mind the federal government serves themselves and the greater DC area. The household incomes of the greater DC area went up by 32% since 9/11/01, while the rest of America went down by 5%. The greedy federal government definitely took advantage of a crisis.

    9. Dave says:

Sweet ..for the moment…. just one battle of many to come for us…we havent yet begun to fight!

      Stay focued TEA PARTY!

    10. Ben C. Ann Arbor, MI says:

A year ago I was not involved in politics other than watching the collapse of our country and complaining. Today I am an active member of a Tea Party Caucus, have been elected to the country Republican Party excecutive committee, have attended two county Republican conventions and one state convention. Our agenda is simple: take back our government. And I am not alone.

    11. Betty Giebel, Orland says:

Thank God that Mitch (Mike) McConnell finally sees the light! However, we must make certain that we hold their feet to fire to prevent any more legislation getting passed by this Congress. Please everyone, keep the pressure on and do not let the holiday madness get in your way. This was the most critical election in our lifetime. We must follow through with what we started and stop the Dream Act, START,and "Don't ask, Don't tell" repeal. These 3 pieces of Legislation are NOT in the best interests of this Nation. Keep calling, emailing, and faxing your congressmen and senators. Make your voices heard once again…then have a Merry Christmas! God Bless this great country!

    12. Betty Furka, Buter, says:

seems congress loots and destroys. it is suggested we call and write as if they care. out need is for men and women of honor who do not bow down to the king or the powers that be.

    13. Jessie Babcock St. C says:

Thank God for the Tea Party. Now they have to work on getting the treaty with Russia stopped. Some pretty big names on the list, including McCain.

    14. Maryann, SC says:

You all remember the scene from John Adams where they tar and feathered the British loyalist and rode him out on a rail? My favorite founding father did not like the tactic then, but I think he would change his mind about the current thieves lining the hallowed walls of Congress. TEA PARTY STRONG!

    15. Dennis Georgia says:

It is about time that Congress woke up. They have made being a member of Congress a life time job with all benefits and a huge salary. Many have been there so long they have come to believe the job only exist because of their presence.

This defeat of the bill is just the beginning, I hope, I think each bill brought before Congress should stand on its on, not be tacked on to another. When this happenes things get voted on or defeated that no one knows about. I have watched the dems and republicans alike tie something to a bill that should not be made as a law or regulation, have also seen bills defeated because of the tack ons, them yell and scream that members of Congress do not care about the people. It is time for Congress to change their ways, work for the people not aganist.

    16. JB says:

Fabulous! Finally a victory for common sense.

    17. Ronald Stolpman says:

Finally, a step back to common sense. Can the new Congress keep it going. We are watching.

    18. Ron Budwine-Victoria says:

I'm still in shock that Congress finally did something right! America may be seeing the start of "Politicial Sanity" returning to Congress. What voter's have seen is nothing short of"organized crime" at its worse, and have little to NO faith in the current system! NO common citizen could do what these"Progressive"lawmakers have done, and stay out of jail."We must beware of trying to build a sociaty in which nobody counts for anything exdcept a politician or an official,a sociaty where enterprise gains no reward, and thrift no privileges." Winston Churchill-(1874-1965)

    19. Charles Long, Carrol says:

There was too much emphasis placed on the earmarks and not enough on how the entire bill was an attempt to set the spending for the remainder of the fiscal year. The elimination of earmarks is not enough, spending must be cut and a budget must be proposed and reviewed by "We the People!"

    20. David Peacock says:

The last few days the state-run media outlets were all saying "well I guess the TEA PARTY has ridden off in to the sunset" hahahahah! If they were just half as intelligent as they think it would be extraordinary.

    21. Al from Fl says:

The tea party, contrary to some Washington insiders, has not gone away. We would like to celebrate Christmas and rest a little from these last two years before we again take up the battle against democrats and republicans who support the progressive agenda. It is time for the 111th congress to go home. There are no other issues (after the passing of the CR) that are worthy of the consideration of the 111th. The 112th should not consider anything else tried by this congress to have credibility nor that they should be obligated to follow.

    22. donna tuscaloosa ala says:

    23. Norm Klevens says:

How do we get rid of the Thad Cochrans, who would be a chairman if Steele helped Angle and O’Donnell & a few others and the new senator, MS Wicker and the other RHINOS like Olympia Snow and her twin S Collins ? Voinovich and Benet are going out. But then Craig, who is retiring, for all his bluster, had ear marks going in the failed bill. The House has an old guard – big spender at the helm of the Appropriations Committee that must go to. How do we dump them in the Good Old Boys Network?? And by the way, many of these porkers are the ones that actually spent George Bush’s money – the money he his is accused of spending, by the bright guys on Fox; Asman and Cavuto. Hooray for the Tea Party.

    24. Ralph Roshto, Lacomb says:

Let us not mistake this fortunate success to the 'Arm Twisting' of a single member of Congress, Mitch McConnell, finally realizing that he was bound by the Constitution. He stated on the floor of the House:

"It was not so much the SUBSTANCE of the bill that we objected to, but the PROCESS".

This proves that they still do not fully understand the Mandate of the last election…We The People object to the SUBSTANCE of the bills more than the PROCESS that they use to pass them! The process will be gone long after the SUBSTANCE of what they pass upon us is destroying our LIBERTY!

Let's be clear why this success in overthrowing this horrendously destructive bill was achieved…it was the PRESSURE from We The People, with our inundation of mail, email, faxes, and PHONE CALLS, finally pressured the NINE republican 'representatives' who supported Ried and his socialist agenda, to withdraw their support.

If We The People keep our pressure on Congress, we can pressure these 'representatives' to defeat the 'Dream act', the dangerous 'Start treaty', and all of the destructive items in the Socialists agenda from "Fundamentally transforming" our country from the Beakon of Liberty to the world, to just another Socialist State.

      Keep up the pressure!

      Let Freedom Ring.

    25. Bruce J. Kolinski says:

This new, supposedly more conservative, House is a wonderful thing. There is a possibility that Speaker Boehner, as decent a person who ever the tread the House floor, will make a difference along with his new colleagues.

In spite of all that, I strongly recommend putting away food and other basics, obtaining a water purifier and putting in place a self dependent plan for heating and cooling your family's abode. "Plan for the worst, while we're all hoping for the best."

The Boy Scout motto "Be Prepared", is a good one for these days of our lives.

      Merry Christmas!

    26. Jack Krohn, Colorado says:

Hot Damn! 'bout time we started getting control. Yippee, yahoo, yeah

    27. Don M, Maywood, CA says:

If the federal government would reduce its functions to that permitted by the constitution, we would be able to fund those functions more lavishly, and cut taxes. Education, Agriculture, Medicine were all well known to the Framers, and the federal government was given no powers in those fields. Indeed, insurance was outside the original definition of commerce, as not being either a good or a service, but rather being an investment or a promise.

    28. Jeanne Stotler,Woodb says:

I keep hearing that the Rep.arty is for the rich, I am a life long Rep. and fourth generation of Rep. and we have never been rich, great grandfather left his medical practice in Iowa to go to Okla. Terr. because he was concerned about the health of the Indians, he ran for terr. legislature and when statehood was granted was a state sen, he died in office, he was not RICH, his son, my grandfather sure could have made more money as an Atty. in private practice yet he spent his life as an Army officer fought in Cuba, Span. amer. war, on the Border in the "Border dispute, and served as a JAG for USAF during WWI, retired as a result of a disease picked up in Cuba, died young. My mother worked for Navy Dept. all during WWII and I've worked all my life as well, as I said we were not rich, we just believe in JUstice and fairness and THE CONSTITUTION as did our ancestors. I decend from a Pilgrim, a signer and many who fought for this country and some who gave their lives, I am a proud Christian, American and a Conservative Republican, in that order.

    29. Lillian Mahvi, Green says:

Thank God! Fiscal conservatism and common sense must prevail. Anyone who budgets for their own family knows you should not spend more than you bring in or you court disaster. Enough of this arrogant administration! We must keep all career politicians in check. Power corrupts.

    30. Tom Rankin says:

I would love to talk to the 13% that approve of 111th Congress. Got to be some weird stuff there.

Maybe they are the ones receiving the ear marks.

Below is a link to all of the ear marks in the Omnibus Spending Bill.

The end-of-the-year Omnibus Appropriations bill includes approximately $8.3 billion and 6,714 earmarks.

    31. Melvin Chambless - P says:

I have serious doubs that this tea party will ever amount to 25% of the value of the original one. There is not one true patriot among the current day members.

The original tea party was filled with the good of our country. This one is filled with ego-of-self and has little to do with anything else.

    32. George B - Plano, TX says:

Glad to see the Tea Party help defeat the omnibus spending bill. Need to defeat them on the DREAM Act and the land grab too. After today or tomorrow the Democrats lose one vote in the senate so maybe the terminator congress finally quits trying to claw its way leftward.

The Senate map looks pretty good for 2012.
The lesson learned in 2010 is primary challenges are an effective way to get more principled conservatives into office. Time to go white haired RINO hunting!

    33. William Gopffarth, K says:

One principle for Congress: No one in congress should vote to pass anything that increased debt or the size of government.

I'd love to see term limits for Congress – max. of 2 – four year terms.

Congressional benefits limited to time served only. Retirement should equal 1/40th of their congressional salary for each year served. They have to go out and work for the rest of their retirement like the rest of us. Health benefits limited to term served plus 90 days (to give them time to buy and put into effect a private plan). Their salaries should be tied to performance and a financial index.

    34. laurie, Hawaii says:

Thank God for Tea Party Army and Mitch MocConnell! This is only the beginning…..we will not rest during the holiday so the Pelosi, Loser-Lamers can steal while we are honoring the sacred day and our f amilies. We must stay vigilant and keep giving money support to Heritage….we are more powerful as a group. We also must remember how much one trillion is. It is ridiculously massive. If you want to have your life be one trillion minutes long before death, you would need to live to be about 19,000 years old!!! That is the way they are destroying our dollar, your life savings (by printing trillions of dollars of debt. Our hard earned money (my case $1.00 per hour in the sixties) becomes monopoly money. The wheelbarrow of money to buy a loaf of bread. We will stand together and fight so this will not happen, by STOPPING the stealing of our money by printing and devalueing it. Yeah for Tea Party and Heritage. We will overcome. Aloha from Laurie.

    35. Gerald, Tulsa says:

Great work…Tea Party activists!! We have to continually be on our toes as Harry Reid is still on duty! I hope the state of Nevada votes him out, he ruthless and reckless! I hope the Republicans can just tell Harry, NO! and mean it.

    36. David Bodne says:

Now if we could get one of our lawmakers to write a bill defining citizenship, making all laws applicable to all citizens, and disallowing non citizens to hold any office, we might have hope for change we demand.

    37. Glynnda White, Orlan says:

Thank you Senator McConnell! I was having my doubts about him for a little while, but it looks like he's really starting to act like a leader…..this is very exciting!!!!!

Glynnda…..next stop, letter of congratulations to Mr. McConnell!!!

    38. Beth Donovan, Easton says:

Ben C., you are not alone. A year ago, I was in the same place you were – furious about the Congress pushing so much through without our consent. I joined the Republican Party, I'm an elected Precinct Committeewoman and I am an alternate delegate for our County Central Committee and have attended our State convention.

We have also started a new Republican Women's Club (Sunflower Republican Women) – we meet at a different time than the old school club (made up of mostly retired, Country Club Republican women) and are very much tea party oriented.

Suddenly, I'm considered a leader in our county. I've never done anything like this before. It is taking all kinds of time! But I can't stop, our freedom, our liberty, our honor is too important.

    39. Mike, Bartlesville O says:

      1. To build on Jim DeMint's idea, all legislation should be read out loud before it is voted on. This defeat of the appropriations bill is a start, and a good one, but only a start.

      2. What if all approprations bills were to stall like this, and all non-military functions of government had to shut down – and nobody noticed?

      3. Growing numbers of companies are deciding to limit their investments in Mexico because of spiraling drug-prohibition-related violence. FTFY.

      Merry Christmas everyone!

We will and can never let up the pressure. I took a 1/2 day off to light up those worthless people. We need to get more vocal. We also need to educate the brainwashed.

    43. Henry says:

Let me understand this bill, how many republicans had billions in earmarks or as we like to call (pork) in this bill? What was a have to earmark? I think that zero earmarks would not have caused anyone grief. Won't happen! AMERICA could live without any and all the porks in the bill.

So Tea Party is the only hope for AMERICA.

    44. Russ, Oklahoma says:

Yes congradulations are in order, however the Tea Party cannot afford to lose any more bills that add to the nations debt. So on the one hand the Omni-bus failed and thats great, but they did pass the tax cut catastrophy. This shows they still dont get it on either side.

    45. Leon Lundquist, Dura says:

The DREAM Act is Voter fixing, in the long run and cheapens the whole idea of Citizenship. I'd like to get hoodlems off the street but I don't want to train them as soldiers (free military training to gangsters?) What people don't know about the inner cities is La La Land. American neighborhoods are under attack by millions of illegal aliens. Toxic assets? That's our neighborhoods!

The Unions have a dream too, that they will get unfair advantage in 'elections' and now that Unions are Federal Workers (they get a 30% unfair pay advantage) it is a matter of National Security they are bankrupting America. If our Government Workers are loyal Americans they will stop dispicable activities of Obama's Shadow Government (his Czars with Unconstitutional Powers). Report to the House.

As if the IRS was not hated and feared enough already, Obamacare planned to have them administer their Unconstitutional penalty! Note the duplicity of calling it a 'tax,' then a 'penalty' and 'tax' (Fooling a Court is a recognizable offense, Influence). This is Attempt to establish Unconstitutional Forms Of Government, and Criminal Intent is demonstrated by their wordsmithing. Knowing Americans hate it (by 80%) the 111th Congress intentionally refused to Represent the People. Well! That's a High Crime for a bunch of Communist infiltrators who usurped their Elections in the first place! (DINOs lie perpetually.) Ask Democrats "Did you know the Fundamental Transformation Obama was promising was full blown Communism?"

Obama got elected by misrepresenting himself, his Party and his Progressive Agenda. He lied by generalities. He lied by omission. He lied by deflection, by false blame, by misrepresenting the loyal opposition. In the final analysis Obama lied his way into Office and he Represented the Foreign Interest. Obama created a Dictatorship in the Administration, what is an unlawful form of Government. Now Obama is unleashing his new Unconstitutional Powers to go after loyal Americans. Not reading Bills is a crime of Representation, it isn't just sausage making. Apollo Aliance writes up Dictatorship for Americans! That's a High Crime in and of itself! Then, so called Representatives vote it in without reading it! It is a horrible crime when you know Apollo Aliance is a nest of Communists!

Our Representatives are not protected in the commission of a crime! That's Law. They weren't making sausages, they were making Unconstitutional Forms Of Government! They were giving Congressional Powers to Czars! Giving American Sovereignty away, undermining Representative Constitutional Democracy! "Oops!" is not a legal Defense. Consumating the Plan of a Foreign Interest remains Treason even if you call it an "Agenda" and pretend that you didn't know!

    46. randydutton says:

And yet they funded the green technology subsidies, the food-to-fuel ethanol which even Gore admitted should be eliminated.

    47. Tom Berquist, Pennsy says:

The Tea Party did not go anywhere. We are here to stay even if Congress hasn't figured it out yet. I said months ago the difference between 1994 and now is we will not go back in our shell this time. The Government is going to work for us again and anyone that doesn't get that message is voted out.

Congress should go home and have a wonderful holiday!

In no way should this discredited Congress pass massively substantive and controversial legislation that will affect our common defense, and legitimize the millions of illegal aliens already within our borders. Finally, I haven't the foggiest about how to prevent huge disputes over sexual harassment if the DADT is repealed.

    50. Richard--Walnut Cree says:

Thank God for the hard working folks have taken the time to attend our Tea Parties and let their voices be heard! There MUST be a force to counter the radical agenda of the Pelosi, Ried and Wieners and that is why we cannot let our guards down. LIBERTY — NOW and FOREVER!

Ken Jarvis of Las Vegas: I have noticed that you are always one of the first few people to respond to the Heritage Foundation's Morning Bell. See, I have to wait to get home from work to read the Morning Bell. You want the government to tax the rich with more and more coercive taxes. I wonder if you are unemployed and don't want to get a job. Do you just want to live on the Government Plantation forever? Quit griping and GET A JOB!!!!

    53. Maynard Robinson, Me says:

Congradulations, Tea Partyiers. I am one myself. What I would like to see is if an ear-mark is so great why not present itself as a stand alone bill? Don't hide it as an attachment to a major piece of legislation. We are looking at the remaining members of the Senate and House who survived last November to see if they know what "We The People" means. If they don't, good bye!

    54. Rudy McGillvray says:

Since members of Congress were declared employees of the Federal Govt. and as such could not be recalled through the election process, surely we can impeach the bastard there, and throw them from office, the same we need to do to Oblama.

We need to start with Nancy Pelosi and then move to Harry Reid, and on down the line for anyone in Congress trying to destroy our Constitution, and its Amendments.

    55. Blair Franconia, NH says:

I think the Tea Party's a positive influence on American politics.

    56. Judy Florida says:

It is about time. I feel each bill voted on should have the same subject matter. Medical is all about medical subjects or each bill should be voted on separately. No ear marks. Something has to be done about lobbyists adding fat to our bills. No special favors should be allowed at our taxpayers expense. I say vote all of the congress out that tried to pass this bill next election. Unfortunately Nancy Pelosi did not get the hint. Dems said they were not going to have her as their leader at election time and after election they put her as leader. Vote whoever doesn't stand up to their word out!!!! It is criminal what politicians are doing with taxpaying dollars. Make import fees so expensive that our factories come back to the US so we have jobs for everyone. No more giving free money to those who can work but feel they are to good to do any kind of work. If they are healthy then report to a government office and work at cleaning streets or other things for their unemployment money. I bet they find a job soon.

    58. Joetote says:

These are some thoughts I've put forward in the past as to the Tea Party. I believe this movement might well be one of the most important occurrences of my lifetime provided "We the People" stay vigilant and hold our elected officials (our employees) feet to the fire.

"I want to once again address the past primaries and the future of our country in general. It is apparent beyond all doubt that the establishment on both sides are deathly afraid of the so called Tea Party and they well should be! For those of you who prefer to live in a cave, the Tea Party from my view is not just about returning to conservative principles. The people who are aligning themselves behind this movement are looking for so much more. We are looking for men and women of principle! We want representatives that obey the will of the people, not their leaders or their own power lust! We want a return to the bedrock principles this country was founded on! We sure as hell do not want to be told we are racists, hate mongers or all the other names we are called just because we disagree with the direction this country is being taken. We believe in free speech, not "Obama says you will think and say as I want".

The Tea Party movement is many things to many people. To those in power, it is a threat. To those who believe in the hard core Marxist principles being espoused by this administration, it is a threat! For those who believe our country needs to subvert itself to the whims of Islamic Fanatics, or Euro Socialism or whatever else, it is a threat!

As such, there are way too many people who do not remotely understand what is happening here. Our fighting men and women, our forefathers who gave their blood and lives for this country, they understand! Unfortunately, the folks that have either had everything handed to them or instead have chosen to ride on the back of others instead of being responsible for themselves combined with the elected morons who realize keeping people reliant on government insures their power, they do not understand!

The Tea Party movement is not a fight for the heart and soul of the Republican party! A co-opted media led by a hard core left wing wanna be dictatorship government would want you to believe that it is in fact all about the Republicans. And they would be dead wrong! The Tea Party movement is a fight for the heart and soul of our country! It is a fight to return us to what made us the greatest country in the world! How sad that entrenched politicians on the right along with the garbage on the left cannot or refuse to understand such a basic tenet!

Sometime ago I wrote something that in reading it again, I realize in my own way that it is what the Tea Party is in fact all about. We want our country back! And if it takes a revolution, in this case at the ballot box, so be it!

“Our country is suffering a slow death as we do not have a leadership with enough moral fiber or belief in our ideals to stand up to it. They only condemn what will hurt them, not caring a wit about the electorate.! This is not what my forefathers fought to give us!

    59. William Alford Belle says:

The Present congress old and newly elected alike are nothing but pawns of the very rich. Their services are very well paid for bye the money barons of the world.

It is time that the people of this nation get down to business and force these ELECTED officials to get down to the business of dealing honestly and openly with the electorate.

The time is far past due for these ELECTED officials to be held accountable for the practices they employ to get whatever they want done. We the ordinary people of the masses are held accountable and if it idetermined we have some way broken the law, we have to face the music. Our Congressmen and Senators do not!

It is time for the practices in our forums of congress and the senate to be open and above board. Instilled with integrity and truthfulness. No more back room deals, No more lobbyist to taint the process.

Lets face it; we have to make these people know that this nation cannot stand on dishonesty , theivery and lies.

Ask yourselves, WHY does it require a muli millions of dollars to run for one of our seats in congress or the senate. This this only a way to keep the honest people out.WAKE UP AMERICA.

    60. William Alford Belle says:

If we don't get rid of the hypocracy and greed in our Capitol city we will never have anything and our nation as we know it today will dissappear.

Got to keep an eye on Brown from Mass. -he is showing signs of turning Rino.

Also when you see senators or reps "not voting " we need to go after them.

Perhaps if they could feature seeing 130 million people spend month crowding around the White House and the palaces of Congress even the supreme court might open their windows for a look at the future…all the acronyms of DC could wonder if their paychecks are going to be IOUs. Something to consider between now and April 15th — when they consider having also to pay their rent with the promise of very little is going to be coming in.

Too few have yet responded in a way that comports with the Constitution and their oath of office in all three branches, being able to Rangel a better deal behind closed doors — they must be made to feel the burden of the responsibilities they so eagerly sought to assume at a cost of as much as 50 times the salary.

We need to press on for victories like these every day for the next seventy years, by my reckoning, for my kids to free and proud to be an American — and not be made to serve in a war to save a Socialist America.

It is time to send a REAL message to all of the people in Washington: WE the people are sick and tired of you giving away money to useless projects and other countries. 66. David Hockett says:

Hooray for conservatism, This is just the first step in reining in a runaway government. If the tea party continues maybe we can make legislators understand that they are elected to serve not be served. The tea party should now go toward stopping the criminal acts of justices who pass laws that force the American people to purchase something they dont want and cannot afford. in adition to laws that allow the government to confiscate peoples property. Long live the the Tea Party and conservativism.

"Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood." – John Adams – A Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law – 1765.

"The people of the United States owe their Independence & their Liberty, to the wisdom of descrying in the minute tax of 3 pence on tea, the magnatude of the evil comprized in the precedent. Let them exert the same wisdom, in watching against every evil lurking under plausible disguises, and growing up from small beginnings." – James Madison – Detached Memoranda – 1817.

"The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the republican model of government, are justly considered deeply, perhaps as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people." – George Washington – First Inaugural Address – April 30, 1789.

"I have lived, Sir, a long time; and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this Truth, that God governs in the Affairs of Men. And if a Sparrow cannot fall to the Ground without His Notice, is it probable that an Empire can rise without His Aid?" – Benjamin Franklin – Motion for Prayers in the Constitutional Convention – June 28, 1787.

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them." – Thomas Jefferson – Summary View of Rights of British America – August, 1774.

"I know not what course others may take: but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!" – Patrick Henry – Speech to the Virginia Convention of Delegates – March 23, 1775.

    69. Brian J. Conway Vala says:

Every federal law proposed and every regulation or edict put forth by commissions such as FCC, FAA,EPA, etc. that has the force of law, should have attached, a synopsis, defining where the constitutional authority is granted to the federal government to enact such a law or edict. Federal government manuevers such as recess appointments and other dodges that circumvent the authority of congress, the peoples representative, should be banned.
