The proponents of President Barack Obama’s New START agreement with Russia are getting more desperate the more votes they lose. The latest sad act comes from the office of Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) who catalogs the fantastic claims of his colleagues:
“Delaying a vote on the New START Treaty into next year is a dangerous and unnecessary gamble with our nation’s security,” said U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH). … “We simply cannot afford to wait any longer to address the threats posed by a nuclear Iran and by terrorists around the world seeking nuclear materials.”

“The most dangerous threat to America and to the world is for a terrorist organization or network to obtain a nuclear weapon. Nuclear disarmament is among the most critical steps we must take to keep our nation and future generations safe,” said U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).
While it is true that terrorists getting a hold of nuclear weapons is a legitimate national security concern, the nuclear weapons most vulnerable to terrorist theft are tactical nuclear weapons. So there’s just one problem with the left’s new terrorist-New START fearmongering: New START does not cover tactical nuclear weapons!
Either New START’s defenders are ignorant about the treaty they claim is so necessary for national security, or they are ignorant about nuclear terrorism. Either way, don’t fall for the left’s scare tactics. Know the facts about New START’s 12 fatal flaws.
