  • Bartering for New START Bad for National Security

While President Barack Obama was telling Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that New START would be one of his top priorities in the upcoming lame duck Congress his aides were busy spreading bags of money around Friday trying to buy votes. According to anonymous sources of The Washington Post, Obama administration official visited Capitol Hill offices, including Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) offering $4.1 billion in new funding for nuclear maintenance.

This is terrible public policy. If funds are needed for the most vital and sensitive military capability in the military’s arsenal they should be provided without conditions – period. Our nuclear arsenal either needs this money or it doesn’t. To bargain with the nation’s security is an antithesis of the appropriate behavior of a commander-in-chief. It would demonstrate the lack of the President’s real commitment to his responsibility as the steward of America’s nuclear arsenal. Conditioning funding for nuclear program on New START is playing politics with our national security.

Worse, there is no way to hold President Obama accountable on a deal. Congress, not the White House, must still pass annual budgets. If proponents of the $4 billion want a clear demonstration of administration commitment before a vote on New START they would be foolish not to demand the passage of the 2012 budget first. Instead, the White House has demanded a vote in Lame Duck – before even the 2011 budget is approved.

The reality is that New START is just bad for national security. New START imposes restrictions on U.S. missile defense options in at least five areas. Paragraph 9 of the Preamble establishes a bias against missile defense. Paragraph 3 of Article V prohibits conversion of offensive strategic missile launchers to launchers of defensive interceptors. Article XII and Part Six of the Protocol create an implementing body, called the Bilateral Consultative Commission (BCC), and gives it a broad mandate which could permit it to impose additional restrictions on the U.S. missile defense program. Article IX, Part Seven of the Protocol and the Annex on Telemetric Information to the Protocol could require the U.S. to share sensitive telemetric information from missile defense tests. The treaty also places limits on strategic target missiles and their launchers used in missile defense tests. The Senate should deliberate carefully on these restrictions and their implications for long-term comprehensive missile defense before rushing to a vote. These issues were not adequately addressed during committee hearings on the treaty.

Ratifying New START in Lame Duck would be clear statement that Congress is only interested in business as usual and that horse-trading is more important than doing the people’s business. Those on both sides of the issue should agree that it is in the national interest for the Senate to deliberate and vote on this critical issue in an open and deliberate manner without the taint of negotiating America’s national security in the backroom.

Russia is hurting, even after decades of rebuilding. They spend 1/10th the US spend on their military and defense spending. This treaty will help them level the field with us – artificially. All the START treaties we have signed always hurts America's defenses rather than being an argument of disarming the globe.

Nuclear weapons are a necessary EVIL. Would it be good to eradicate them, sure? However, we will never be certain that ALL will do so. We need to make sure we have the numbers that provide the adequate deterrent to nuclear war with other larger countries. This requires that the monies applied to developing new hardware, and protecting and maintaining the old weapons is efficient and free of all waste. We need to make sure the arsenal is precisely what we need and no more. There is a growing scarcity of available funds to pay for the defense of this country, and borrowing is no longer an option. We need to be more than smart about how to go about our nuclear arsenal. And we need to be smart about what treaties we are going to support. Let us do two things, let START go to the circular file along with wasteful defense spending.

If we are truly going to have full security long into the future, we need to start here at home. Do what we need to make our defenses as secure, as efficient, and as cost effective as they can be all the while keeping our options open.

      Pres OBOZO: "Tea Bagger-in-Chief"

You Can LIE but can you READ?

Invasion by illegal ie "Criminal Aliens"

Obviously you have never read the United States Constitution or

else feel that in your ivory tower and wealth that it does not apply to you!!

I feel you need to read the following and act according to the peoples wish

not your wishes or special interests wish list!

There are three references to the words "invasions," "invaded," and

      "invasion" in our U.S. Constitution:

Article I, Section 8: "The Congress shall have Power To Provide for calling

forth the Militia to execute Laws of the Union, suppress

      insurrections and repel Invasions."

Article I, Section 10:"No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any

Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time

of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with

another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War,

unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as

      will not admit of delay."

Article IV, Section 4:"The United States shall guarantee to every State in the

Union as Republican Form of Government, and shall

protect each of them against invasion, and on

Application of the Legislature, of of the Executive (when

the Legislative cannot be convened) against domestic

      Violence."

Your Oath of Office and sworn duties as referenced mean you must Act and

put a Stop to the Invasion of all the Illegal immigrants we are experiencing.

Our U.S. Constitution mandates that invasions shall be repelled by Congress.

and that means the persons in the House of Representatives and the U.S.

Senate. Our nation's sovereignty must be protected.

How can you even stand in front of a mirror and even look yourself in the eyes

knowing you are a "Bought & Paid Hoe" for special interests and the

Democratic Party Hacks? Tell me I am wrong, please because I fear for the

future of our country as you certainly don't care about the people or our

      country!!

You go to the SAME PLACE for LYING as you do for STEALING!!

    5. Barbara Cooper says:

We don't need another "We need to pass this legislation wo we can find out what is in it". Will we never learn??? Please, Senator Kyl, stop this madness.

    6. Barbara Cooper says:

Are we going to see another bill passed so we can find out what is in it??

    7. MARY MULLEN says:

Have we learned nothing? What 's the hurry to pass this START treaty? Why must it be passed now, before the end of the year like the health care bill was passed before it was read. I'm with Jude R…….KILL IT!

    8. Leon Lundquist, Dura says:

There isn't any better proof that Obama serves the Foreign Interest than the New START Treaty. Bad enough that all the treaties have done is to let the Soviet/Russians catch up. Now I suppose we are all supposed to watch Putin's puppet show when Americans ought to be perfecting their defense. There is no good reason we should give the Russians every thing they want and get absolutely nothing back from it. This Lame Duck Session is going to foretell the Democrat's strategy. It looks like they are going to double down. Obama will talk cooperation while his actions are the opposite. The Captive Media will report only the sweet words and leave the false impression Obama tried to work with the Republicans.

If Democrats are full steam ahead in the Lame Duck then my prediction is they will overrule Congress through the Administrative Branch, over reach lawful bounds with 27 Czars doing so many crazy things the Media doesn't have the time to list them, let alone cover them in the News. So far 80% of the Federal money is going to payoff the Unions and other Progressives causes (Redistribution of wealth means "our guys.") If anything sensible comes out of the 112th Congress Obama will Veto it. Nothing will get done for the Republicans and the Communization of the United States will go ahead full tilt boogie! In 2012 the power will be better consolidated.

2010 may be our last free, fair election. Again I say, the House has to stop them using House oversight. Americans are getting their hearts broken by the crimes committed in plain sight and the Communists getting away with it! That's the 'Heart Part' Glenn Beck exposed. Twenty seven Czars can do a lot of damage to American hearts. The House has to bat these things down, and honestly do Unionized Federal Workers 'bargain in good faith' when they are bringing American economies down?

Millions of American victims already have the proof! Obama and his gang are serving Foreign Interests. Now the Commies are coming out and admitting it. But look here! You aren't innocent just because you do your crime in broad daylight! That's how arrogant the Communists are! They already have the Top Down that Glenn Beck mentioned. (Meaning the Communists already have the US Government in their control!) A couple more years of breaking our hearts? Sure, Americans are going to act up! If the New START Treaty passes? We will know for sure that our Government is not our own.
