  • The Obama War On Science: UPDATE

Last month we detailed how the Obama administration has tried invoke the authority of “science” to support their pre-existing political policy proposals, despite the fact that on issue after issue there either is no scientific consensus, or the preponderance of scientific evidence did not support their side. Today, Politico adds more details to the Obama administration’s efforts to manipulate science to support their offshore drilling moratorium:

The White House rewrote crucial sections of an Interior Department report to suggest an independent group of scientists and engineers supported a six-month ban on offshore oil drilling, the Interior inspector general says in a new report.

In the wee hours of the morning of May 27, a staff member to White House energy adviser Carol Browner sent two edited versions of the department report’s executive summary back to Interior. The language had been changed to insinuate the seven-member panel of outside experts – who reviewed a draft of various safety recommendations – endorsed the moratorium, according to the IG report obtained by POLITICO.

Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and several other Gulf State members of Congress asked the Interior IG to investigate the moratorium and the peer review claim.

“The inspector general’s finding that the blanket-drilling moratorium was driven by a politics and not by science is bitter news for families who, because of it, lost their jobs, savings, and way of life,” Cassidy said Tuesday. “Candidate Obama promised that he would guided by science, not ideology. If that were true, at least 12,000 jobs and 1.8 billion dollars of economic activity would have been saved on the Gulf Coast.”

This is exactly the kind of abuse of executive power that the next Congress must check if they are going to Get Control of Government. Presumptive-Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) is going to be very busy.

This president simply does not know how or intend to be honest with the American people. The IG's report is another entry in a list of articles of impeachment.

    4. Tim AZ says:

Consensus should never occupy a sentence that contains any version of the word science. When you do this you bastardize the practice of science. Too many scientists have already exchanged too much credibility for easy money. Consensus is merely a group of people agreeing on conjecture, which produces nothing of scientific value until it has been proven or eliminated as fact.

Congressman Issa will have two years between voting to investigate the illegalities of this regime. Make them all count.

    5. Richard Mason, Chula says:

How can government function when we have a President who views the act of governance through the eyes of a four year old playing in his own personal sandbox? He has a personality disorder whereby he considers himself to be "exceptional" in every consideration, while denying the same standing to the nation he would rule and I fear it is contagious and most of the democrats in Congress are coming down with it or have passed on from it. One hoped the medicine offered by the American public during our recent elections would have taken effect but the illness is stronger than any of us could imagine and it has given few signs of abating in its attack on every aspect of our nation’s health. His expertise reaches well beyond health care as his destructive intrusions attack us on every front; industrial application of science, national defense and security, reasoned energy policies, economic growth and all that is related to it, with the common theme that we should all work for him or at least the government he orchestrates. It is apparent that no longer should we end our addresses with “God bless America” but rather a call that “God save us.”

This fudged industry report was entered as evidence in federal court in support of DOIs drilling moratorium which reminds me of the fudged ACOG report former Clinton WH counsel, former Obama WH SG, current SC Justice Elena Kagan entered as evidence in federal court in support of partial-birth abortion.

What's worse…the court's blind acceptance of these "scientific" reports or the people who manipulate and promote them?
