  • Morning Bell: Stopping Voter Fraud

Voter fraud happens. Just ask Olivia Alair, press secretary for the U.S. Department of Transportation. Alair was regional communications director for the 2008 election in Ohio under White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. In 2008, Alair and two other Obama campaign staffers registered to vote in Ohio. The problem was that Alair did not live in Ohio and had no permanent plans to do so. By Ohio law, this made her ineligible to register. Only after this was made public did Alair and her cohorts send letters asking that their registrations be canceled. If the press had never made this public, would Alair have gone ahead and committed a felony by voting? Only she knows. But her cavalier attitude toward our nation’s voting laws permeates the entire Obama administration.

In 2004, an immigrant illegally registered to vote in Putnam County, Tenn., and then voted illegally. This is a felony three times over! 18 U.S.C. § 1015(f) makes it illegal to claim you are a U.S. citizen in order to register to vote for any election; 18 U.S.C. § 611 prohibits a noncitizen from voting in an election where there is a federal candidate on the ballot; and 18 U.S.C. § 911 makes false claims of citizenship in general a felony. Instead of prosecution, the Obama administration sent the immigrant a letter asking him when he “discovered” that he was “not a United States Citizen.” Protecting the ballot box was not their priority (you can read more about The Threat of Non-Citizen Voting, here).

And the Tennessee case was not an isolated incident. Thanks to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, we now know that not protecting the ballot box from voter fraud is the official policy of the Obama Justice Department. Former American Civil Liberties Union attorney and current Justice Department employee Christopher Coates testified before the committee that: 1) Deputy Assistant Attorney General Julie Fernandes ordered DOJ attorneys only to enforce “traditional types of [voter intimidation] cases that would provide political equality for racial and minority language voters;” and 2) Fernandes informed DOJ attorneys that it was the policy of the Obama administration not to enforce anti-voter fraud laws since Obama “was not interested in that type of issue, but instead interested in issues that pertained to voter access.” Fernandes has never responded to these allegations.

For most electoral races today, fraud will not be a factor. But there are some races where some will desperately cling to power in a close election. And that is where voting fraud is most likely to happen. The Heritage Foundation’s voting law expert Hans von Spakovsky told Fox News:

Any place where we have very close elections, there’s always going to be the potential there that voter fraud may make a difference, and that’s where we are going to have to be really careful to be sure that doesn’t happen.

In fact, voter fraud has already happened in this election. A Daytona Beach City Commissioner was arrested for absentee ballot fraud just last week. In Troy, N.Y., Democrats on the city council have been ordered to supply DNA to prosecutors to be tested against absentee ballots and absentee ballot applications that were allegedly forged. And in Bucks County, Pa., a Democratic program intimidated some voters into needlessly, and sometimes fraudulently, applying for absentee ballots.

Federal law does allow for poll workers to assist the disabled and those who can’t read English. But, if you see or hear a poll worker attempt to give unsolicited instructions to any voter (other than technical instructions), that is not allowed. Neither is any electioneering in or near the polling place, and promises of payments for voting of any kind (whether it be cash or free food) are also illegal. If you witness any of these activities, notify both the chief election official in their particular county or city, as well as the media to make sure that officials do something about it.

The right to vote in a free and fair election is the most basic civil right, on which depends all of the other rights of the American people protected by the Bill of Rights. Unfortunately, as long as elections put people into positions where they can make decisions about how much the government will spend, who will receive the money, and how the government will exercise its power, elections will be important enough to tempt some individuals to steal them. As the Supreme Court recognized when it upheld the constitutionality of Indiana’s voter identification law in 2008, flagrant examples of voter fraud “have been documented throughout this Nation’s history by respected historians and journalists.” Those examples “demonstrate that not only is the risk of voter fraud real but that it could affect the outcome of a close election.” Be on the look out to protect your most basic civil right today.

We need to begin arresting these people and at least detain them for a while. They need to be scared straight. Actually they need to go to directly to jail, do not collect $200 dollars and do not get out of jail free card.

This means that Mr. B HO would not be our President today if not for voter fraud.

This means that the Blacks could not win a election fair and square.

This means that they have to lie and cheat their way to take our whole country down.

This means that they truly are incapable of leading our country fair and square.

This means they belong in jail.

This means Mr. B HO should be impeached and/or have every document with his signature registered null and void. They are worthless because he became President by cheating. Try that at the gaming tables in Las Vegas…

    3. Greg Sober, Prescott says:

How does the Supreme Court decision noted above (Crawford v Marion County Election Board) impact on the recent ruling by the 9th Circuit Court striking down Arizona's ID requirement for registering to vote?

    4. Blair Franconia, NH says:

That's easy. All you have to do is make sure ACORN and its affiliates are de-funded.

Would you trust Osama bin Laden or Bull Connor with enforcing voting rights? Would

you trust George Wallace? As Balki Bartokimous says: "Well, of course not! Don't be

      ridiculous!"

    5. KC - New Mexico says:

Good article on voter fraud. During the past few weeks with early voting and absentee voting seems to be well controlled. However, how our country votes today may still be subject to issues and fraud. It surprises me that in a high technological environment, as in America, that we do not have a highly controlled and uniform process to vote. The voter is, or is not registered, legal, or not legally in this country – what is so hard about making sure the voter is who they say they are? Arizona had this correct by requiring the voter to show identification – until the liberal courts stopped that process.

I look at our voting process as outdated – similar to our tax system and IRS. Even our healthcare system is still outdated. (Note – it took me 3 hours at an urgent care yesterday to get my son’s smashed finger looked at – inefficient overall process!).

Just think how your tax dollars could be used to improve these infrastructure processes. There is so much that can be improved in this country but we need leadership that really cares. We do not have this today so get out and vote today and start demanding change from our leaders.

    6. Edmond McGill says:

This happens in every election. So what is done about it. Nothing? Soon, when the credibility of the electoral process and the credibility of the governing process are completely in the trash can, even voters like myself (I have not missed an opportunity to vote since I first became eligible in 1968.) will give up and stop participating in the electoral process.

    7. ROY S. MALLMANN II S says:

If you think back to the "good old days" before the illegal immigrants and activist groups tried to take over our country and remake it in their image, we had the draft of all males who reached eligibility at their 18th borthday. This one law pretty much guaranteed the good intentions of persons seeking U.S. Citizenship by showing their willingness to defend their new country. It is important to note that countries like Israel do not have an illegal immigration problem. The draft is not a bad deal in that only 10% of the military is actually in combat situations. If we bring it back it could also be used as two years of compulsory public service for those afraid to go into the military. It is the best lesson to force our young to be responsible for something.

    8. Paul, WA says:

??? How can a person become a US citizen if they can not read or speak English??? That used to be a requirement to become an American citizen.

      ?????

    9. KLIMAX Baltimore, Ma says:

It is to late to impact this election but we need a Federal law that requires 'EVERYONE" to show ID and when necessary provide "Proof of Legal Presence" to vote in any election on a Federal level !!! Why this does not already exist is a question that will never be answered but it must be Done ASAP if we are to have fair and legal elections !!!

Voting is probably the most important "RIGHT" we as American Citizens have and to allow people from other countries, who are not American Citizens, to register and vote in OUR elections is an insult to every American !!! There must be something legally that can be done about NObama's and the Injustice Dept. flagrant disregard for OUR Federal Laws by not prosecuting Felonies for illegal voting !!! If it was a WHITE Person who was breaking the voting laws they would be in jail before you can say "NObama Lies" and probably be prosecuted to the full extent of the law !!!

NObama has pushed Racial Equality back 50 Years with his racist agenda and the Black Panther Fiasco is a prime example of the Injustice Departments lack of Racial Equality as directed by NObama and his Puppets in the White House and Congress !!!!!!! Maybe the Republicans can force the issue when they regain power today !!!!!

    10. Mary , Georgia says:

It always seems like most Voter Fraud is by wanna be Democrats. Seldom hear of Republicans commiting Voter Fraud. I pray that we have legitimate elections and everyone registered and legal, votes.

      God Bless America.

    11. Mike Hall, PA says:

You write: "The right to vote in a free and fair election is the most basic civil right, on which depends all of the other rights of the American people protected by the Bill of Rights. "

Sorry, I disagree – our civil and natural rights are not dependent on either the Constitution or the Bill of Rights – rather the contrary..

Voting is a privilege you are granted by your adherence to the laws and rules of your society. Violation of those laws revokes your privilege, as it rightly should, else we would really be ruled by the lawless!

I expected better from Heritage Foundation.

      Regards,

      Mike.

    13. Buck Crosby Hubert , says:

It is unfair to ask people to stop voter fraud , how on earth could the democratic crooks , thieves , communists , marxists , socialists . and other un-American trash ever win another election ?

    14. Tom Cooper, Fair Oak says:

These people grew up in the 60s and thumbed their noses at the our laws back then. They had no respect for the laws of this country then, and they still don't have any respect for our laws or the constitution. I'm not at all surprised at them blatantly breaking the laws or being cavalier about it when they get caught. These people have no ethics.

    15. Robert Hobson, Fairl says:

I voted today in Lower Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The touch screen showed "Office, Democrat, Republican"

At the top of each party list was a button for "straight Party Vote"

When I touched the button for "Republican", All boxes for Democrat candidates lit up.

I then stopped & was reading all instructions when a poll worker asked if I was having a problem.

When I explained what happened, she told me to push the "Straight Party" button hard, & then the republican lights lit and I pressed the "Vote" button.

After thinking about this later, it just seems wrong that any lights should go on until the button is pushed hard enough to activate your selection.

This made me think of what I read about complaints from Nevada. To me this is a rigged machine as I believe if I had pushed the "Vote" button it would have cast my vote for the democratic slate.

    18. David Dietrich, Hamp says:

I usually agree with Heritage District analysis, but in the case of this article, I must take strong exception to the assertion that "the right to vote in a free and fair election is the most basic civil right, on which depends all of the other rights of the American people protected by the Bill of Rights." This is simply untrue. Nowhere is such a "right" identified in the US Constitution. And it cannot be a natural right, since it requires the work of others to come into existence. Therefore, voting must fall to the level of privilege, which is only conditionally authorized based on each individual's status. Finally, I will also disagree with the assertion that on voting "depends all the other rights." I claim that it is rather the right to bear arms that provides this protection.

    19. Adam, Stoughton, MA says:

I believe I was a victim of voter fraud yesterday. When I showed up at polling station I have been voting at for the last 13 years, I was told I was no longer on the list of eligible voters and would need to fill out a provisional ballot. While the lady that was helping me was trying to find out how this could happen, she had a list of formally registered voters in this district that were also on the list. The list was 12 pages long. Out of curiosity I started to ask questions. My first one was am I the only one this has happened to? She replied by saying no, I was about the 50th person today this happened to and she hasd been going thorough this all day. Now even more curious I asked if all the people happened to be registered Republicans, and she replied all but 2 and they were unenrolled. The worst part is that our Secretary of State is well known for not requiring provisional and absentee ballots being counted unless the races are extremely close. So in other words, our troops in Afghanastan and Iraq voting absentee will not have their votes counted unless a race is really close. What a shame.

    20. Rachel, Auburn, WA says:

You didn't mention in your article anything about voter fraud in King County in Washington State. It is truly terrible here! Queen Christine won her governorship from Dino Rossi only because of voter fraud (someone found a bunch of ballots all marked for her in the trunk of a car and that was enough votes for her to win!). It's so sad to see so much voter fraud in so many places, on both sides of the political spectrum, especially here in WA. Unfortunately, the movie Black Sheep was pretty much a prediction of the many years to come…

    21. David Bess, Carson C says:

In this day and age with the patriot act in place you need to show proof of who you are to travel, eanter a government building, etc etc etc.. This is presumably to protect you and your rights. Why then are so many opposed to proving who you are in order to vote. As a U.S. citizen I would feel eleated if I had to prove that I was a legal citizen in order to vote.

Voting is the right that protects all of our other rights. It enables us to perserve our freedom. The requirement of citizenship insures that we the citizens of the United States are the only ones controling our destiny. The law is supposed to be blind to race, color, creed or national orgin. However it should have it's eyes wide open when it comes to citizenship.

    22. Walter Feit , Qeeens says:

It may be interesting to note that Mohammed Atta possessed a Drivers License in three states as well as voter registration to match . Mohammed was a alien in violation of his visa . On 9/11/2001 , Mohammed perished when he piloted hijacked AA Flight 11 into WTC Tower one . The 911 Commission made public it's findings of lax domestic security Many of their recommendations have yet to be addressed .

    23. Thomas Fairbanks says:

That is why I work as a Poll Station Worker. I get to see and insure that the process is not corrupt. In our precinct I could see it was not. However just on efficiency an accuracy alone an ID is required.

I observed three or four family members with the same name and living at the same address. One was the father , Grandfather, Son etc you could only tell from the Birth date.

To accurately and efficiently do your job at the Ballot station a form of ID is essential. You take it and you compare it physically with the name in the Voter book. If you have to do this verbally it would take a lot more time, and a lot more errors.

In the state of Hawaii an ID is required and insures efficient and accurate recording of ballot issuing and insures a smooth and efficent polling station.

Those states that don't require are insuring a shoddy and ineffienct and inaccurate control. Must be very frustrating and sad fo rthe Poll workers in those states. And unfair to voters.

    24. Ron Plante Somerswor says:

am i the only person in the country that watched this election

how does dingy Harry Reid and Barney survive the onslaught?

      maybe fraud! do ya think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and we wonder why our gov. is so disliked and untrusted

    25. George Colgrove, VA says:

The American Voter Protection Act should include the following:

      A) Protection from a required National ID Card. This should not be a back door approach to imposing a national ID Card.

      B) Require every person to have a State supplied ID (i.e. Drivers License or Non-Driver ID) in order to vote.

      C) Require the states to have a unified database of individuals who have such ID's to enable quick and easy cross verification that a single person does not have multiple ID's. In addition make it a federal crime for a single person to have multiple ID's. Also make it a federal crime for a person to use multiple ID's to vote multiple times.

      D) The "purple ink clause": Three weeks prior to an election the state will activate an encrypted code that will be assigned to the ID that will allow a single vote on that ID. Once the ID has been used for, a vote that code will recorded in that persons assigned voting site and then deactivated. Additional use of that ID will be flagged for fraudulent attempt for multiple voting and the authorities will be called on that person.

      E) ID numbers shall not be recorded on ballots; however, a valid unused ID will be the only thing that enables a voting machine. A ballot will have a special code that can be compared to the internal database of that machine so ballots can be verified.

    26. and2therepublic, ill says:

Pat Quinn has been declared the winner of the Illinois governors race. He and Brady are 18,000+/- votes apart. They each received roughly 1.7 million votes. The 50,000 absentee/military ballots haven't been counted yet, and may take a month to tally. Brady hasn't conceded, because he won every county except four. Let's hope our troops' votes are all counted. They have earned them.
