  • Obamacare’s Prescription for Inanity

Regulators have begun issuing some of the hundreds, if not thousands, of regulations necessary to implement Obamacare. Among them is a new restriction on health reimbursement accounts that exemplifies the lunacy of the entire health care scheme.

Health reimbursement accounts (HRA) provide tax breaks for deposits used to pay medical costs, including basic over-the-counter (OTC) remedies such as pain relievers, antihistamines, and topical antibiotics. But effective Jan. 1, 2011, reimbursements from the accounts will be allowed for over-the-counter medicines only if they are purchased with a prescription.

Yep, deep within the 2,500 or so pages of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act—so called—is a miserly reversal on a bit of tax relief afforded consumers for a host of household essentials. Evidently, the new health care regime is so costly that to pay for it all the feds must eliminate a tax incentive intended to make us more prudent health care consumers.

The new regulation is all the more maddening for its pretense. If a prescription is now necessary to receive HRA reimbursement for over-the-counter products, there is no HRA coverage for such purchases. But rather than come out and say so, the regulators attempt to fool us by adding the Orwellian prescription exemption.

We probably shouldn’t be surprised. Despite President Obama’s platitudes about “slowing the growth of health care costs” and “eliminating hundreds of billions of dollars of waste and fraud,” there’s no hiding the fact that his grand plan is a budget-buster. Indeed, expanded entitlements and scores of mandates will deepen the deficit by hundreds of billions of dollars.

Sadly, what we are left with is a prescription requirement for products that have undergone tortuous government scrutiny to be declared safe for over-the-counter sale.

the 26 year old child thing went into effect today, but my daughter's firm says that it is up to them if they want to implment it today and they say they choose to do in next year. Is that part of the law. I saw the heritage person on cspan, but cannot figure out how to get to them without buying a membership.

my company says that they do not have to honor the provision of the health care bill that took effect today that we could add our child under 26 years old until they choose and they choose not to honor it until next years and not today when it took effect. Is that true

Can anyone please tell me why we have "legislators" when they clearly have no idea what the heck the bills they legislate mean? Since when did "representative government" mean that our elected officals write and then pass into law "guidelines" with the details worked out by burocratic agencies within the larger governmental framework? sorry folks, but the whole system has become nothing more than horse pucky! What happen to one bill, one provision in that bill, with the details (read rules) worked out in advance?

By the way, in the last two years I shed 12 employees from my business–it's now me, me and me! Yes, I work longer hours, but my personal income went up substantially and I no longer have to deal with silly government mandates becuase I hired someone!

These Obama-Pelosi-Reid Gangsters are busting out with a coup de gras on American Industry. The Administrative Costs absolutely assure the cost of what we laughingly call Health Care will necessarily skyrocket too. But while we suffer in our beds, be assured that as soon as the doctor gets out of Court, finishes his paperwork, pays his fines, swings by the Bank to kite another check, and does his Community Service (on ankle bracelet) he will have a look at you. "Oh! I'm sorry! The doctor has a study date (6,000 pages of regulations, you know)."

Why should we be surprised with any of this? Any bill that is so huge and vague and incomprehensible that it can't/wasn't read before passage is a powder keg ready to explode.

And it was designed to do this so that everything will fall apart and the federal government can seize control of the disaster and "reshape" it.

Clearly, Obama and the progressive liberals (the "enlightened" Democrats) in Congress created a Pandora's box which, when now opened, is spewing out all kinds of toxic stuff which will only strip away our healthcare benefits and raise our individual and nation's financial distress, skyrocketing our stress levels thereby making countless people sick from all the pressure! There will be no relief. . .

Yet, unfortunately, we have too many ignorant (even ivy league college graduates) and strong-will folks who will vote Democrat no matter what. They are so brainwashed and illiterate that they couldn't see a train locomative coming right at them for anything!

The blinders that are on so many come from one source and those of us who are believers know who that is.

Until spiritual revival occurs in this country, we will continue to watch the temperature rise in this "hell on earth" that has been created by men and women who think they are gods.

Prayer and the knowledge that God loves those who follow him are our only hope.
