  • Meet Heritage Featured Facebook Fan, Michelle Creek

Each week, The Heritage Foundation features one of its more than 250,000 Facebook Fans on its “Featured Fan” page. This week’s fan is Michelle Creek, a college student in Spokane, Washington. Read her story, below, and be sure to become a fan on Facebook!

Michelle Creek knew she had strong values while growing up on the banks of the Columbia River in Kennewick, Washington. She just wasn’t sure how to label them.

“I was raised in a conservative Christian home, so that really framed a lot of the issues for me, at least in terms of social issues,” Creek told The Heritage Foundation. “But it wasn’t probably until high school and college that I realized there’s a lot more to being conservative.”

As the 21 year old finishes up her last semester at Whitworth University, a private, liberal arts school in Spokane affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, Creek is more confident than ever in the virtues of conservatism. Yet after spending the last several years on a college campus, she’s concerned that many students automatically assume liberalism is the best fit for their generation.

“I’ve …always believed that the sanctity of marriage is between a man and a woman,” she said. “I feel really strongly about that.”

By the time Michelle's 40, the American public will be at least 70-30% for it – it's already a majority in that supports it as the older generation dies off.

    2. Kevin H, College Par says:

Of course, liberalism is the best fit on college campuses. It's known by nearly everyone that liberals and blue staters are far more educated than red-staters.

In fact, the red-staters and folks like Glenn Beck are anti-education. They remind me of the ghetto mentality, where those who have spent time educating themselves and getting college degrees are looked down upon – probably because Beck and Hannity and that crew were all dropouts, never got a degree. Easier to brainwash people with nonsense and lies when they are uneducated.

Just sad to see young minds like hers brainwashed by ridiculous laws written on some book thousands of years ago. I though christians were about doing unto others as you would have them do onto you…and helping your brother/sister out…and not being materialistic – why has the far right distanced themselves so far from jesus' message. It's just sad.

    3. Jill-Maine says:

Kevin, Jesus also recognized individual worth and value to each human being. After all he died for the sins of all. Socialism strips worth and value away. Also those who lead in Socialist countries keep everybody down trodden. They of course take all the wealth and they share only whats neccessary to keep some of the masses alive. Socialism has to wall in their territory. Not to keep people out but to keep people from running for their lives. Look at the Cubans who risk shark infested waters to come to America on rafts. You sound like a snob who can't see beyond the tip of your nose. Socialism never worked and it never will.

    4. Billie says:

God Bless you, sweetie! Conservatives, as you are, show themselves to be people of inner strength, who respect and defend the principles of America. Conservatives recognize mankind is created equal and respect and defend America's rule of law that recognizes the same…

    5. Billie says:

Kevin H, what do you know about Jesus message? He didn't look at people and insist the people needed help from government. Jesus didn't say, I will help the Blacks, Mexicans, Asians and Indians. (I only mention that because Obama did,)

Jesus revealed inner strength and inspired freedom and self reliance. Part of the message from Jesus is all mankind has inner strength and realize their self -reliance, (no nationality of mankind excluded), and all mankind is born free as man is his own ruler and not of any other man.

and not being materialistic? where the heck did that come from? the bible teaches man to prosper in good faith and provide for themselves and families as best as possible and help those that are truly in need. Unfortunately today, aside from our seniors, it is hard to decipher the truly needy. It is sickening to me that Obama claims to be a Christian yet he promotes government dependency and not self-reliance to live free!
