  • ICE Union Revolts Against Obama Sanctuary City Policies

Recently the Obama Administration hired former Houston police chief Harold Hurtt to coordinate state and local activities for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As The Heritage Foundation pointed out at the time, Hurtt seemed like an odd choice to head up an important position with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Hurtt is, after all, a well-documented supporter of “sanctuary city polices,” which puts him at odds, at least philosophically, with the agency’s mission.

Seems like we’re not the only ones who noticed that the Obama Administration and the heads of ICE don’t seem particularly concerned about curbing illegal immigration and enforcing the rule of law.

Last week, the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council of the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents 7,000 ICE agents and employees, unanimously passed a “vote of no confidence” for the agency’s leadership, “saying ICE has ‘abandoned’ its core mission of protecting the public to support a political agenda favoring amnesty.

Furthermore, the union proclaimed its desire to “publicly separate ourselves from the actions of Director Morton and Assistant Director Coven and publicly state that ICE officers and employees do not support Morton or Coven or their misguided and reckless initiatives, which could ultimately put many in America at risk.”

Given the Hurtt hiring, as well as the Administration’s decision to sue Arizona for having the audacity to enforce the law, it’s hard to disagree.

How shameful and disappointing Obama and his leadership are! Doing anything possible to corrupt and destroy to effect the good of the people and the country. His morals are America's immorals. Indignant and deceptive. Weak and pathetic. Putting America in harms way.

    2. Brooke, San Juan Cap says:

Are there any experts out there with advice about what ordinary citizens can do to stop this administration from pulling anymore outrageous acts that go against our sovereignty and the rule of law? This has to stop, how can it be done?

    3. B. Schulz says:

There is a real disconnect going on in the Sanctuary City movement that drives this. According to the FBI a total of 1,382,012 violent crimes occurred nationwide in 2008. And there were 9,767,915 property crimes in the Nation that year. Thus, a total of 11,149,927 crimes were committed 2008.

The total number of people living in the USA in 2008 per the Census Bureau was 304,059,724. During that year the Pew Center estimated there were 11,900,000 people illegally residing in the USA or 3.9% of the population.

For each person illegally residing in the USA there is at least one violation of the law taking place. Many more if you count Identity Fraud, Identity Theft, and other crimes people residing illegally in the USA commit in order to work. Thus the number of people violating our law to live in the USA and other laws to work illegally in the USA in 2008 was greater than all violent and property crimes in the USA combined. So which is the larger problem? Crimes committed by those who reside illegally in the USA or crimes those illegally residing in the USA may not be reporting because of their status?

In our law crossing our border illegally is a violation of Criminal Law. Overstaying a visa is a violation of Civil Law. So let me get this straight – this author wants the Police to avoid enforcing Criminal and Civil Law violations because they are afraid that it may hamper the enforcement of Criminal and Civil Law violations? That makes no sense.

    4. B. Schulz says:

Oops! I meant to say "Sanctuary City advocates want to avoid enforcing…" but I accidently said "this Author wants to avoid enforcing…" I apologize to the Author for my miss-statement!

    5. Carol,AZ says:

ICE is a Fedeeral Agency and has been disallowed to operate under the Federal Laws to enforce illegal immigration.
Front and center on this issue are 7000 ICE agents who should be put up there right along with Governor Janet Brewer.
      Support them!
They are the glue that is holding this legal system together for all of us.They also put thier lives on the line for all of us.
Morton much resign and after him HLS, Janet Naplitano and the worse offended Eric Holder.
      ONE more time:
Illegal means againts the law, and
YES there are thousands of outstanding warrants here in America that have their names wrtten on them.
So what are you doing about in, your State?
