  • Morning Bell: It's About The Spending, Speaker

Yesterday on ABC’s This Week, host Christiane Amanpour asked Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA): “You are, by all accounts, one of the most — if not the most — powerful and successful speakers of — in the history of the United States. You’ve passed so much legislation. The President was elected with a significant majority. You had control of both houses of Congress. And yet now, people are talking about you might lose your majority in the House. The gap seems to be growing wider between what’s achieved and what’s making an impact with the people. How did this happen? …how did you get to this place where, perhaps, you might lose your majority?” Pelosi responded: “We don’t see it that way. We are very proud of the agenda that we have put forth to the American people.”

The American people sure aren’t proud of the Pelosi agenda. According to Gallup, the American people’s trust in Congress is at a historic low and their low approval ratings point to big changes in November. Tops among the people’s concerns? The economy. Also according to Gallup, 64% of Americans mention some aspect of the economy as the top problem, which isn’t surprising since the unemployment rate, at 9.5%, is still 1.5 points higher than the Obama administration promised it ever would be.

Now Speaker Pelosi wants to dig the economic hole even deeper by allowing the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire. Pelosi claims that cutting taxes on “the wealthiest people in America, increases the deficit and doesn’t create jobs.” This is just plain false. Research on the last seven recessions shows that small businesses generate about two out of every three new jobs during recoveries. Hitting small businesses with tax increases would kill this job growth. Speaker Pelosi and her allies at The Washington Post may claim that these tax hikes will hurt only a small number of small businesses. But these claims are deceptive. As Heritage Foundation analyst Curtis Dubay has detailed, while only eight percent of small businesses pay the highest two tax rates, those businesses earn 72 percent of all small business income and pay 82 percent of all income taxes paid by small businesses. In other words, those small businesses that would be hit hardest by the impending Obama tax hike earn an overwhelming majority of small business income and employ most of the workers hired by small businesses. Higher tax rates would drain these businesses of cash flow, the lifeblood of any business, and would diminish the incentives to grow and add new workers.

So why is the left dead set on raising taxes and killing job creation? All of a sudden, after first enacting an $862 billion economic stimulus and a new $1 trillion health care entitlement, the left is now against deficits. But our deficits are simply not caused by a lack of revenue. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), extending all the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts will place revenues at 18.2% of gross domestic product (GDP), which is actually above the 18% average over the past 50 years. Meanwhile, spending, which has averaged 20.3% of GDP over the past 50 years, is set to explode to 26.5% of GDP by 2020. These spending increases are being driven by our entitlement programs (Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid). By 2020 spending on these three programs alone will consume 11.4% of GDP. If revenues stay at their historical 18.2% average, these programs will consume all federal revenues by 2052.

The solution to our economic troubles is not higher taxes, it is less spending: If the federal government managed to return to the per-household spending level of the Reagan administration, the budget would be balanced by 2012 without any tax hikes. Just returning to the per-household spending levels that existed before the current recession would balance the budget by 2019.

But balanced budgets, low taxes and smaller government are not part of Speaker Pelosi’s vocabulary. As Amanpour said, the gap between Pelosi and the people is only growing.

another example of how disconnected the democrat party is. and how they don't care.

    2. Tom Quinn says:

Who proofreads your daily messages? This one is embarrassing.

Heritage Foundation is a class act.

Why not send them to me first before publishing. I'll proof them for free (my bit for liberty).

Please, you are getting like the crawlers on Fox and CNN.

      "whole" should be "hole"

And your paragraph in raising taxes on the rich is nonsense. We all know what it SHOULD say, but is says the opposite.

      Tom Quinn

    3. Witt, Macon, GA says:

Is it just me, or did we miss the editing of the second paragraph? The quote attributed to Speaker Pelosi seems backwards. Did the writer intend to say "reducing" taxes instead of raising.

    4. Brian, VA says:

The article states – "Pelosi claims that raising taxes on “the wealthiest people in America, increases the deficit and doesn’t create jobs.” This is just plain false. Research on the last seven recessions shows that small businesses generate about two out of every three new jobs during recoveries."

I think there is a typo in here as I think Pelosi would say, "raising taxes decreases the deficit."

    5. Dot, Pas. Md. says:

Nancy Pelosi is too far removed from the average American to know what is going on . She has private planes, large homes, her own vineyards and she thinks she knows what the average american is dealing with? This woman and many in congress and senate who have to find places to berth their 7 million dollar yachts need to be replaced. We need people as our represenatives who can relate to America, who know what it is like to bear day to day burdens, who live week to week and month to month. The people who now run our country are living far beyond what most Americans can comprehend. They give pork to enhance their own lifestyles to get back for what they give. I don't know what the answers are but I sure know we need a change but for the better not to increase the wealth of our represenatives and the power of our represenatives but to give "WE THE PEOPLE" our country back!

    6. Linda New Jersey says:

Perhaps those of Congress should put themselves in the catagory of "wealthy", and pay those upcharges they propose…or is that they feel they are above it all?

    7. Ann Cassileth/St. Jo says:

    8. Mary.... WI says:

Spending is what a liberal agenda is about. Under the dem governor of WI and the dem mayor of Madison, WI spending is all they seem to do completely dismissing any crys of "uncle" from constituents. High speed rail and commuter rail for this state and city will crush the taxpayer pocket book for it's expense, upkeep and increased sales tax. Pelosi, Reid, congress, and Obama are no different. To them it's fun spending other people's money….just as long as they get their agenda of spending through. They refuse to listen to the pleas of the American people to stop spending. But you know what….when all this spending comes flying back in their faces and this country is destroyed the rest of us conservatives can say it was the democrats fault for getting this country in the mess we're in! Vote them out in Nov and 2012! Sweet revenge! And then let's elect people with some common sense and fiscally sound ideas to get this country back on her feet.

    9. Ben C. Ann Arbor, MI says:

Pelosi claims that raising taxes on "the wealthiest people in America, increases the deficit and doesn't create jobs." This is just plain false.

Please explain this quote – shouldn't the logic be reversed?

Obamacare has a provision that all businesses must 1099 any vendor who supplies more than $600.00 worth of goods. This reporting will generate 1.9 Billion in revenue – but for whom? Accountants? The Federal Government? This provision was written by people who have no clue about business and overhead expenses. ALL of my supplies are over the threshold. This will add significant expense to my cost of doing business. This is a really bad idea.

    10. Fred Kaiser Phoenix, says:

      Please re-read the 3rd paragraph. Pelosi's comment doesn't read properly, I believe.

    11. . Clifford E. Keys says:

Sooner or later America will wake up to how we have been misled by Washington, and Obama's broken promises such as "No new taxes . not one dime", and "If you are happy with your current health program, you will not have to change anything". I pray that Americans will use the November elections to restore "One Nation under God . . . of the people, for the people, and by the people"! I invested more than 30 years on continuous US Army active duty including Korea and Vietnam to protect principles that made our Nation the envy of the world before our current administration started to ram Socialism down our throats to replace "of the peop-le, by the people, and for the people"!

    12. James Penfold, Greel says:

Pelosi is totally predictable. What remains a travesty is the way lap dogs like Amanpour ask such fawning Q's which make those that O'Reilly calls the folks look stupid not to realize how blessed they are to be led by Miss America Nancy.

I would like to see Mad Magazine do a spoof of this type reporter as Awomanpoor in journalistic skills. With Mad and Saturday Night Live the Left is not safe either.

      James in Greeley, CO

    13. Robert Mitcham, trin says:

I continue to be astounded at the arrogance of this woman. either she is the stupidest person ever to be speaker or she is living in an elitest bubble isolated from reality. Another thought; how did she get in her position ? Were we so blind not to see this coming? Not anymore !! We need to vote the liberal left out of office ! Hope not too late !!!!

    14. Bonnie, FL says:

The Democrats will do anything to get our minds off of the deficit. The new ploy is cleaning the swamp i.e. Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters. The Dems will campaign on what a good job they are doing cleaning house and looking out for the people by ridding Congress of the corruption. Rangle has had his problems, too numerous to mention, for 2 years. Maxine Waters has had her problem since the bank bailouts when she worked her sweetheart deal for her husband with OneUnited Bank in MA to the tune of 12 million dollars. Why all of a sudden do they want to throw them under the bus? If Rangel and Waters are not re elected the districts they represent will only replace them with like thinking Liberals. If they are going to clean house how about John Conyers and his wife's sweetheart deals. They are banking (no pun intented) on us having short memories.

    15. Richard, New Orleans says:

Is this a typo -. Pelosi claims that raising taxes on "the wealthiest people in America, increases the deficit and doesn't create jobs." Or did she say cutting taxes?

Although raising taxes on "the wealthiest people in America, increases the deficit and doesn't create jobs." is true, I seriously doubt she said it.

    16. gary sheldon AZ says:

When tthe leftists perpetrate an "agenda "upon the citzens of America they sound like dictators. Could they be dictators? That is the behavior as it appears to me.

    17. toledofan says:

It's seems so simple, reducing the deficeit and making America prosperious again, but it's being made so difficult because of a failed ideology and the lack of leadership. It just makes me nuts when you hear the folks on the left talk about all the legislation, the bills, and the spending like it's a glorious revelation, but, the simple truth is that noe of this legislation doesn't do any good for America. For us to have unemployment over 10% is unconscienable, to have a deficeit over 1 trillion dollars in less than 2 years is staggering and the real problem is that Congress and this Administration have developed themselves into a ruling class thinkling they can do anything they want without reprecussions.

    18. S. Smith Richmond, T says:

As BHO is the worst president, Pelosi has got to be the worst and most corrupt speaker hands down! Her strong arm tactics will hopefully come to an end this November.

    19. Bernard P. Giroux, S says:

Nancy Pelosi belongs in a straight jacket and locked up, at that. It is incredible that this woman is a grandmother. She certainly has taken care of her grandchildren's future. Cannot wait for November to show Pelosi what real Americans think.

    20. A. Terranova, Ormond says:

Ms. Pelosi and her supporters are hell bent on placing enormous burdens on small business owners precisely because that would strangle cash flow and prohibit them from hiring. Why are very powerful and like minded public servants like Ms. Pelosi speaking out of one side of their mouths with hubris and bravado while at the same time behaving in ways that can only be construed as treacherous to our economy in general and to small businesses in particular? Because this administration is all about central government control of every facet of our lives. If small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, it's because they are successful. In Ms. Pelosi's world success can only be permitted if you are part of the big government power machine.

    21. greg, NY says:

Amanpour is a respected journalist, and a very shrewd wordsmith. The way she described the "gap" between Congress and the public, it sounded like Pelosi and the Democrats in Congress just had not communicated their many amazing successes too well, as opposed to having gone totally against what the public actually wanted them to do. The word is traction: The more Congress has gone against the will of the public, the more the public has just written them off. And luckily for us, the US and the Constitution, that loss of traction is expected to lead to a reversal of leadership in at least the House, and probably an emasculation of the majority in the Senate.

Actually, in retrospect, it probably wasn't Amanpour with the shrewd attention to the verbiage – it was probably fed to her by Pelosi and the Dems' handlers.

    22. Timpclimber Provo, U says:

Democrats under Pelosi in the House have to be careful at roll call. Should they answer Here or Not Guilty?

    23. Dennis Georgia says:

This is just another example of how the liberals in congress think. They have no regard for this country or us. I find it hard to understand their thinking or lack of, pelosi truley believes that the American people are a bunch of idiots and need people like her to think and make decisions for us. With her, reid and obama in power they are intent on destroying a way of life, as well as whta has made this country great. At the same time the people of this country must except some blame for this mess. When the polls are open and we have the opertunity to change the way this country is going only about 30% vote. We as citizens must take back our country, we must vote and must do so in greater numbers than ever. Voteing is not a guaranteed right, it is a privilidge, and can be taken away with the stroke of the pen. I do believe that people like pelosi, reid, obama rangle and others that have made politics their life, believe that they are in total controll, and will work to change America into a sociaslist or worse a dictatorship for their benefit. We really need term limits, and untill this happens, we run the risk of loseing this country to the liberals and controll freaks in congress.

    24. Blair Franconia, NH says:

During the 1992 presidential campaign, Bill Clinton's campaign team had a sign that

said "It's the economy, Stupid" to remind themselves what the real issue was.

    25. Don Harper, Lubbock, says:

Now Speaker Pelosi wants to dig the economic whole even deeper by allowing the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire. Pelosi claims that raising taxes on "the wealthiest people in America, increases the deficit and doesn't create jobs."

"dig the economic whole even deeper" and the Pelosi quote explains your point of view, not hers. Proof read, please.

    26. Alice Rini, Kentucky says:

I enjoyed the article, but was confused by the second paragraph in the email version where it said that "Pelosi claims that raising taxes on "the wealthiest people in America, increases the deficit and doesn't create jobs." which, of course, made no sense. But when I clicked the comment button to ask about it, I found a change–Pelosi was saying just the opposite–that cutting taxes increases the deficit. Check with the editor–I am sure the latter statement is what you were reporting.

    27. Bryn Searcy, Harrah, says:

Unless I am misreading this statement copied from today's Morning Bell, I think that it is true and probably not what Speaker Pelosis claimed; "Pelosi claims that raising taxes on the wealthiest people in America, increases the deficit and doesn't create jobs. This is just plain false."

I feel that raising taxes would result in increasing the deficit and would hinder job creation which seem to be what the Speaker and the Administration are trying to accomplish. Bryan Searcy, Harrah, OK

    28. Kevin Habib says:

To be calling for extension of tax cuts for top 2% is absurd. You have been railing against deficits and debts for 19 months, yet now you want to add another 700b to the deficit for help the top 2% of Americans? I understand that many of the funders and the founder of Heritage is in that top 2%, and why you are working to support those that fund your organization, but you can't have it both ways. You can't decry deficits and debts, then ask to add 700b more to the deficit, when all top economists show tax cuts for the top 2% will have the least stimulative effect on the economy. Tax cuts for the top 2% will do nothing for job creation compared to other stimulus. It's been proven over and over the last 50 years – why don't you look back?

And the very wealthy will only have their taxes returned to normal for the top 2 rates. They will still be paying the lower amounts on all the other marginal rates – it's time to be honest and stop pushing to give more money to the richest of the rich from the backs of the middle class.

    29. Ron Derry NH says:

The wealthiest people in America are people whose risk factor is low and their overhead is non existence….that would be government employees.

The small business person foots the bills for making the economy, funding the insurances and hiring the work force…these are the real jobs that turn the wheels of survival.

What Obama and Pelosi are saying is the WORKING people of this country must pay into and take more burden and risk so the fat cats that sided with the extortion party can hand out more graft like a Feudal lord to his loyal followers.

The obvious subjugation of the hardest working part of America, that carries the brunt of risk both financially and physical is to insure America never stands up again against the International Banking Cartel, the Democrats or for Freedom of enterprise ever again!! This is a whooping we are getting for straying away from the communist ideals that the left has been forcing on America for 40 years and now that they are in a position to dance on our foreheads they are not hesitating.

Please stop the dialog of imagining that these progressive communists are in this for the good of Americanism as they are not. This is the change they wanted; Communism and the oppression of self worth! They only claim to attack the wealthy when they are really attacking any independent self sufficient business left standing that isn't already under government controls.

    30. Gary Alaska/Nevada says:

Unsubstainable! The only logical question is, what is next? These people appear unstoppable, no influence of American public opinion has ANY effect. It's like the Constitution has been set aside, and Pelosi has her huge Mad Hatter's gavel ready to rule. What is next?

    31. Charlie Moore, Decat says:

Pelosi's comments are just another example of how much she, along with all the liberals are out of touch with the American people. Let's hope and pray that come November we can send them all packing. Of course, they will be just fine with the entitlements that they receive.

    32. Bob H Syosset N.Y. says:

What the dummycrats are playing is class warfare. TAX THE RICH . What these people who support the argument don't or can't understand is it's the "rich" who do the employing.I never got a job from a poor person, or a failing corporation

    33. bjoc, florida says:

Even the Heritage Foundation fails to to talk about the largest unfunded liability when they talk about cutting spending. According to the Dallas Federal Reserve on May 25, 2009 the largest unfunded liability is 99 trillion dollars which are for Federal Pensions and their health care. This is larger than Social Security and Medicare combined. Is there a reason that the Think Tanks shy away from this?

    34. M.S. Haden, Conroe, says:

Either this is the lowest mentality ever convened in the Federal Government or those members pushing this Spend-N-Destroy-our-Way-to-Socialism movement are aspiring to high positions in an expected result, such as the New World Order. What is so frightening is that the steps we are taking now are almost the same as the steps we took in the early 30's that brought us from inflation into the Great Depression. It's impossible to even think of a reason we would be led down that course again and expect a different result.

I constantly hear references to, "tax cuts for the wealthy." Does no one remember that the tax cuts were not a gift to wealthy taxpayers, not a benevolent hand-out to the middle class – (that DID receive tax benefits by the way), but were put in place to successfully end inflation? Give wealthy people money and they spend it along with a lot of their own money! Industry moves product, supplies more product, hires more people who then spend money. More homes are bought, more merchandise moves, and a larger workforce pays more taxes. Do Democrats not believe this, are they determined to coin a new way to end inflation (they better hurry) or are they trying to deliver the U.S. to the New World Order. I heard Obama use the term, "World Order" in a recent speech and it concerned me greatly.

    35. Lil, San Diego says:

Nancy Pelosi is so completely charmed by herself that a reasoned and logical question escapes her! She believes all the hype these media dolts give her and firmly believes she is one of the all-time best????? Speakers ever to grace the House! The complete disconnect this woman experiences is profound—she just can't quite grasp the difference between spending and cutting! This is a failing her colleagues enjoy as well! It is well past time to replace these people with individuals who understand that fiscal responsibility means "don't spend more than you take in!!!!!"

    36. Drew Page, IL says:

Like many other Democrats, Pelosi and Reid know their days are numbered. Between now and 1/1/2011 they are going to try and ram through every piece of social legislation they can and grow the deficit as much as they possible can.

Every time this woman appears on TV I get nauseated and want to blow chunks.

    37. Jeanne Stotler, Wood says:

Most of Congress is so rich and their money hidden off shore that they don't connect with the general public. We have three classes, the rich, who avoid taxes as much as they can, the middle class who pay taxes, most deductions have been illeminated, and the poor who live oiff what the rest of us pay in. This congress is now trying to make the rest of us pay for more, while they pay for less( they'll hide it) Rangel is no new comer to this, the Kennedy's did it for years, so did the other wealthy familtlis like Vanderbilts, Astors, etc. Now is the time for a Nat'l sales tax and eliminate the income tax, then it's fair for all.

    38. Bob Diffley, Oakland says:

Please proofread your own articles before publishing. Pelosi's quote is "cutting" taxes as shown on this page, not "raising" taxes as shown on the lead page.

      makes for very confusing reading……….

    39. Seth Warner, Connect says:

Top of paragraph 3 "whole" suggests your spell checker does not know the proper context of the intended word.

    40. Joseph Bessler says:

Reducing social security will not balance the budget. I agree that there should be a reduction in spending, but the social security benefits should be paid to the people who put into it. That is the American taxpayers and our widows. If the illegal immigrants are removed and Congress restore what they took out of it Social Security would be solvent. Why penalize those of us who have worked all our lives to put mpney into it?

    41. John Pummell, Alexan says:

I know Nancy Pelosi will retain her seat in Congress, but I'm hopeful that the November elections will remove her from the Speaker's chair. She has got to go!

    42. Lucas, Kansas says:

Once again, those in favor of repealing the tax cuts do so by guilt-tripping the wealthy into holding out on the government and hoarding their wealth. The fact is, a progressive tax is nothing but legal theft, a Robin Hood-style economics of wealth redistribution which is exactly what Pelosi and Obama want. Their bleeding hearts for the poor–which is really a lie–in order to take and take and take from the rich is insufferable. Pelosi's day of reckoning is at hand. I'd hate to be Democrat this November.

    43. KB in PA says:

It may take a little more time, but before it's all over, Ms Pelosi will have drowned in the slime of the very swamp she vowed to drain.

    44. Cathy, North Carolin says:

You asked the question, "So why is the left dead set on raising taxes and killing job creation?", here is my answer. It's the socialist agenda of the Obama administration. The ultimate end is the destruction of this country as we know it. It's time we stop asking why and do everything we can in the upcoming elections to get them out of Washington.

    45. Peg, Massillon, OH says:

The big lie is that this tax revenue will be spent on more liberal legislation, not on reducing the deficit. Ms. Pelosi is salivating at the thought of all that money coming her way. Just like the SS Trust Fund was drained by congress, so will any money coming into the coffers. Any future funds held in "TRUST" by congress or any federal agency will be spent, not saved. Our only hope is that she will not be Speaker after the Nov. elections.

    46. Jack E Lohman says:

What is it about political corruption that we don’t understand? Taxes result when politicians take money from special interests that want in taxpayer pockets. Special interests want the money spent on them, and not on schools and police and other infrastructure. And they are winning because they fund the campaigns.

Nothing is going to change until we have public funding of campaigns. If politicians are going to be beholden to their funders, those funders should be the taxpayers. And at $5 per taxpayer per year it would be a bargain. Even at 100 times that. We MUST lobby our senators and representative to co-sponsor the bill at:

      Jack Lohman …

    47. SGEE, Houston TX says:

How can Pelosi be proud of an agenda that 64% of Americans disagree on? Is she daft? And why would they push so hard, if it were good for the country. It has to be the party she is loyal to… Too bad, party’s over.

    48. bobsuelmann says:

I love and support small business, but what do you have against big business? Without big business in the USA we are forced to buy from abroad and increase the trade deficit and national debt. Tax cuts for small busines are very good, but tax cuts on big business(corporations) are essential. Corporate income taxes are a giant tariff on American products and their workers. Have you bought the liberal lie that corporations are evil? Are foreign corporations holier than ours?

    49. craig says:

Yes indeed, Nancy promised to drain the swamp but the reality is that rather than draining it she decided to turn it into the world's largest sewage lagoon!

    50. karin, nashville, tn says:

Why don't you cut to the chase: The Democrat/PROGRESSIVE objective is to nationalize companies, programs and even States (i.e. one immigration policy for all and that's just the beginning.) Taking religious symbols down=neutralizing faith institutions; centralizing law enforcement, weakening laws & enforcement i.e. Immigration; propagandizing textbooks i.e. like madrassas do; harnessing power in the executive (tyrant) by round ending the Congress i.e. Czars; removing all vestiges of a democratic country. is CALLED SOCIALISM. I just finished reading HoChiMinh: A Life that's exactly what they do. The man is chipping away AMERICA.

    51. David Bess, Carson C says:

All of you folks that have a problem wit this just don't understand the "Marxist" system. Harry, Nancy and that other guy understand it very well. What they don't understand is AMERICA and it's values. Nor do they understand that Capitalism is the most successful form of trade to create a free country and strong economy.

Given all of the GDP to use this administration would be in debt again tomorrow. Economic stability of any kind other than an oligarchy, with them in charge, does not fit into their scheme for "their america". An America ruled and not governed.

Unfortunately, Their america is rapidly becoming real. The apathy of most Americans will play right into their plan. The awakening will be rude and painful as we watch the enslavement of our children, grand children and all generation to follow.

The new slogan for "cradle to grave" will be "Cradle, if allowed to Deth at the governments convenience". Be afraid, very afraid!!!!!!

    52. Neal Palmquist OH says:

Lucas in Kansas, I think you are perfectly right and I'm glad I read your post because I could not have said it better.

I'd like to add that there is a component to the liberal lies that portrays tax cuts as if that is government spending. At first it seems kind of reasonable until you wonder, if republicans are guilty of not paying for the Bush tax cuts, then how did Obama and the democrats pay for any citizen to keep any portion of their paychecks at all? Clearly, if the same standard of paying for the gift of non-taxation was applied to the democrats, then you would have to conclude that the democrats didn't pay for us to be allowed to keep a single penny out of our paychecks.

Furthermore, the belief that the government has to "pay" for tax cuts comes from a distorted perception that all wealth belongs to the government first before the person who earns or creates the wealth. In a liberal's mind, you are only allowed to own wealth at the discretion of government as government sees fit.

So liberals see tax cuts as govvernment spending. Ask them to cut spending and they raise taxes.

It would be nice if I could use the same backward belief system to cut my personal spending by demanding paychecks from all of the companies that never hired me!

But put that all aside and look at the national debt. The rich are not the ones who have their wealth redistributed from them. The unborn generations of future Americans are the victims of government. The class warfare argument offered by the liberals is a lie. The democrats are stealing and telling lies because they are caught stealing.

    53. BobBartoe, FL says:

I keep listening to everyone about our country and its total mis-management and the "Gee! Why would these idiots do this?". They arent stupid, they are forcefully driven by an idealogy suitable for Satan himself. Barry is the pawn being pushed around by powers we haven't identified. They are rich, mean spirited, socialist, communist pigs, each and every one! We must stop this insanity by proving, publically, that Barry is the ineligible, narcissistic clown he appears really is. He isn't even a citizen of our country. He is a muslim terrorist who is charged with trying to help start the implementation of Sharia Law and radical Islamism. Even the legislation this traitor has signed has been Pro- Muslim. We must make him release his documentation and then prosecute him for his fraudulant and traitorous usurpation of the highest office in opur land.

He has done it! We must stop him. Quietly or otherwise, our revolution from this communist takeover must happen today!

    57. FulghumInk says:

So, let me get this right: According to Christine Amanpour, if you lead the passage of several pieces of legislation, that means that you are a "successful" Speaker of the House. Hmmmmmm. It doesn't matter that the Marxist socialist miscreants don't read the legislation. It would appear that this shoddy reporter and this equally sleazy Speaker are both in their own fog.

@Cathy, I couldn't agree more. That's why I am a member of my local MooreTEA Citizens in Moore County, and much more…

    58. Dennis, Galveston says:

I like your article but it's hard ro read. Paragraph 3 must have been written by a third grader. Economic whole? Pelosi claims raising taxes on the wealthy increases the deficit. I thought it was just the opposite what she claimed. Oh well, I have a lot to learn.

    59. Donna Starnes, Desti says:

I wish, at least conservative news outlets, would refrain from calling Social Security an entitlement. The reference connotes a handout that is not earned, but bequeathed by a benevolent government to the weaker among us (liberal speak). Without asking, the government takes money out of working people's paychecks on the promise of safekeeping (in a "locked box"), guaranteeing it will be paid back in installments beginning at the age of 65. What I pay in is my money and I am "entitled" to it, but it is certainly not a handout.

    60. Lucy Gardner, Phoeni says:

Don't know WHO is editing these articles, but there are serious ERRORS IN FACT, especially in this one. I cannot forward this because it makes Heritage look sloppy and less reliable…:-(.

    61. tightloops says:

It isn't only about spending! THE REPUBLICANS ARE STILL ACTING LIKE A CAT'S GOT THEIR TONGUE! It's about lying to the poor and weak to steal a vote on a promise not intended to be kept. It's time to reach out to minority groups and explain exactly why voting Democrat in this election will hurt them most! For goodness sake, why is the GOP AFRAID of the MSM and direct talk with minority groups? Go directly to these markets video and audio markets and ask them if they are better off than they were last year, ten years ago or 50 years ago. Tell them to look around their own family, their community and then ask them what has really changed for all the Democrat promises………….are they better, is their family better, is their community better…….Tell them it's time to realize they have been USED by the Democrats and Obama with no return on their invested support. Look around and ask yourself if you're better off today because of the Democrats and Obama. If not, vote for a better way that empowers you to make life better for yourself, your family and your community. Tell them to see through the fog of a lifetime of broken promises. Promises are only worth something if they are kept. WHY WON'T THE GOP SAY THIS????!!!!???? The GOP should work on this immediately!!!! The first four years of my life were spent in a home with canvas walls. As the child of homless migrant workers, I find it unacceptable and irresponsible for the GOP to cowardly avoid speaking directly with the poor and ethnic minorities. We are perfectly capable of understanding commonsense and logic. Good grief…….I'm losing patience with the GOP! Conservative policies empower the weak!

    62. Guy McKinley says:

Now Speaker Pelosi wants to dig the economic whole even deeper by allowing the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire. Pelosi claims that raising taxes on "the wealthiest people in America, increases the deficit and doesn't create jobs." This is just plain false.

It is hole, not whole and what does raising taxes do to the deficit and jobs?

    63. J.P Baker says:

These posts are really uninformed nonsense !

Would you folks stop repeating the idiotic soiund bites and think for your selves !

Im no fan of the administration but lets criticize them in an intelligent and proper way instead of ignorant statements that sem to be all over the postings here : name calling like 2nd graders an duninformed ideas about liberals spending when we outspend them in every administration – its a matter what they spend on as opposed to us. Anyway, please, lets just grow up here.

Big Government Is NOT the Answer

Your tax dollars are being spent on programs that we really don't need.
