  • Amnesty ... It's Baaack!

Amnesty is like Jason Voorhees. No matter how many times it seems to be dead, it keeps coming back, each one worse than the last.

Washington seems to be following the same script when it comes to immigration. We tried an amnesty in 1986. It failed to stem the growing problem of illegal immigration. So Washington tried again in 2007, but Americans rejected that amnesty bill. So what does the Obama administration propose now? Amnesty. But this time they want to do it by administrative fiat.

The chances for an amnesty bill in this Congress are zero. So how does the White House plan to circumvent public opinion? Well according to a memo from the Obama Department of Homeland Security the answer is to implement a de facto amnesty by ignoring, circumventing, or manipulating existing federal statutes .

Not only is the White House addicted to amnesty, it is increasingly clear they are committed to undermining the enforcement of immigration laws so that they can argue that the system is so broken that there is no alternative to amnesty. The best evidence of this is the government’s wrongheaded lawsuit against the state of Arizona which puts politics ahead of the law.

The White House has become so single-minded pursuit of amnesty that it has completely undermined any bi-partisan support for the strategy. Sen. John McCain who was a cheerleader for Bush’s amnesty is now committed to pursuing a secure the border first strategy.  Meanwhile, Sen. Lindsey Graham who helped co-author the draft Obama amnesty bill is now calling for legislation to ban birthright citizenship for children who are born to whose parents are not lawfully present.

The real tragedy is that as long as Obama continues his Lemming-like pursuit of amnesty our broken borders and flawed immigration system will never get fixed. The even greater tragedy is that there is a real, practical, compassionate, fair, and achievable way to fix what is broken. While there is no “easy button” for immigration, there is an honest plan that will solve the problem in a way that keeps the nation safe, free, and prosperous.

amnesty, so many un answered questions,i don't get it, reward people for breaking the law of the land, show people that are trying to come here legally there is an easier way, just show contempt for the law.

why do other countries guard their borders, we can't just break their laws

and make demands on them.are we really going to let all of central and south america come here and destabalize our entire country, not to mention that others from the middle east that really need to be kept out of here, are coming in also.God bless America!

What to do with the illegals that are already here??

This is a big problem. Many have said that there are too many illegals in the country to round them up for deportation, and even if we could it would cost too much.

I have a plan that I think would work if we could muster up the political will to do it.

The idea is to put the onus on the illegals to leave, by spelling out the conditions and giving them some incentives, starting with the number one incentive which is to secure the border and enforce our existing laws. Then pass laws to do the following.

      1. Give illegal aliens (they know who they are) 90 days (or??) to leave the country starting on a specified date.

      2. Pay each illegal a specified number of dollars upon crossing the border. This would be cheap in the long run considering the on-going cost of illegals in the country right now.

      3. Require that Illegals surrender all forged documents in their possession before they cross the border, and be photographed and fingerprinted.

      4. Record the time that each illegal crosses the border.

      5. Those illegals leaving the USA within the 90 day period will become eligible to LEGALLY reenter the USA under a visitor worker program, as permanent resident or on a pathway to citizenship.

      6. The order of eligibility for illegals to return to the USA will be established by the time and date that they leave the USA. So, the earlier they leave the sooner they may return.

      7. After the 90 day period any illegal caught in the USA will be immediately deported, AND forfeit any chance to ever enter the USA legally, as described in item 5. above.

      8. The Fourteenth Amendment, Section 1, be repealed by a new amendment NOT automatically granting citizenship to children of non-citizens of the USA.

    3. JASON, MURRIETA CA says:

It is simple. The elected class has been allowed by the electorate to become a ruling class. A ruling class never considers itself subject to any rules declared necessary for those ruled, such as the general American population.

Until the ruling class is convinced through electoral process that they are still a class of elected officials, and thus develop a minor fear of the electorate that displaces the current disdain and corruption, we will continue to receive what we have now. The stumbling block is the simple and sad fact that many voters have become emotionally attached to the dregs of society they maintain in office.

If not, how did E. Monfort Kennedy remain a senator for so long? Why are Rangle and Graham still in the House and Senate? The answer is voters who seem to desire the personality and not the function. Entire states populated with voters that give us Dodd, Kerry, Levin and the like. States with populations and sizes that are dwarfed by a single county in California send the likes of Snowe and Collins to the Senate.

Once voters actually understand that their lives are now subject, and I do mean SUBJECT to the whims of these folks, the anger may cause a minor apocalypse among the currently anointed in November. But……American short term memory seems to be a bit lacking in this century, so far, and I will wait for November to arrive with caution and delight.

I want AZ Governor Jan Brewer to show papers to prove she’s a human being. I think it was FOX that did a show on extraterrestrials that live among us, and Governor Brewer does resemble some alien from a B Movie, “Invasion of the Brain Snatchers”, right? I’ve have my suspicions about people like Jan Brewer, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and Karl Rove because of their lack of human qualities.

As far as the immigration issue goes… Republicans never made a big deal about immigration enforcement during Bush/Cheney but NOW all conservative hell is breaking loose… even though the Obama Administration is deporting MORE illegal’s than Bush ever did. Maybe we should adopt Ronald Wilson Reagan’s immigration policy (look it up, dolts)

And funny how I didn’t hear NOT ONE WORD on the Cable News about AZ Gov. Jan Brewer’s $ connection with the “Corrections Corp of America”. Not to mention I could stop this immigration problem with one thing… ARREST ALL THOSE conservative business people WHO ARE HIRING THE ILLEGAL WORKERS!

      Republican Party = Hypocrisy

On 7-28-10 I was watching Republicans on Morning Joe (MSNBC) preach about being ADULTS when it comes to our economic meltdown. I say BS! The real ADULTS are trying to demand accountability from those who got us in this financial mess. Republicans want to shift the burden of responsibility on Teachers unions and others in the American working class. Ohhhh, and Black/Brown people too…

I wonder if the spoiled Silver Spoons on Morning Joe knew how much they hurt Democrats, Progressives, Liberals when they didn’t challenge NJ Gov. Christie. NOW all over the internet the Conservative wacko groupies are swooning all over Christie like he was a rock star. Of course, because of these Republican low grade thought processes, the right wing monkeys now consider teachers, 9/11 rescue workers, poor people and immigrants the biggest threat to our economy.

What kind of Americans are stupid enough to believe decent wages/working conditions, regulation, Wall St. reform and making wealthy silver spoons pay their fair share… are BAD THINGS? Republicans will take tax dollars away from grade schools to give BP tax breaks/subsidies. DON’T BELIEVE ME, you rightwing numbskulls, CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELVES!

“I’m wondering if those who support that so-called Tea Party Movement really know where Republicans are leading them? It seems like the Tea Party rank and file are being used by a bunch of vain, self-serving, evil, power mad, greed stricken, K-Street Con Artists. The scum of the earth who hide their hideous faces by using Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin as spokespersons.

Just look at their agenda items. It‘s like wet dream for Ken Lay or Jack Abramoff:

      1) Repeal Health Insurance Reform

      2) Privatize Social Security or abolish it.

      3) End Medicare

      4) Extend Bush Tax Cuts for wealthy and Big Oil

      5) Repeal Wall Street reform

      6) Protect all those responsible for Gulf oil disaster and future environmental catastrophes

      7) Abolish or cut funding to Department of Education

      8) Abolish Dept. of Energy

      9) Abolish Environmental Protection Agency

      10) Repeal 17th Amendment

      11) Rewrite Bible and school textbooks,

      12) Replace JESUS with Glenn Beck, Frank Church with Joe McCarthy…

      13) After USA is destroyed by Republican Party low grade thought processes, BLAME Democrats/Liberals”

    5. Carol,AZ says:

If we want to see the USA come apart at he seams carrying 63% of our budget based on debt, .Added to that, 34. million poeple which is reported as "the correct number" by ALIPAC, of illegal living here.

Clearly D.C and all elected and appointed leadership have last their minds.

When are we going to begin impeachment proceedings for all obstruction of justice to our Constitutiona to savage what is left of all tenents for free enterprise, States Rights, rescinding Socialized medicine, and enfrocing all laws already here on all issues of illegal immigration.

Cancel chain mirgration laws, recently increased, work visa voted on and passed by the senate.

When do we help reemploy 17. milliom American? .

Who is left to protect America accept us.

Who is here to protect American Buss from out-sourcing which also included American passports that were out-sourced , copied by the Chinese, and compromised our National Security.

Get rid of him and the ribid people who surround this mad-man.

    6. Fred, San Antonio, T says:

      Immigration Reform

Illegal immigrants are in the US illegally by definition.

The Obama administration is proposing amnesty for all illegals because the administration argues it would be impossible and in humane to round them up and deport the en-masse. In actual fact they want to give them the right to vote, join unions and qualify for national medical care. It would be criminal and a gross injustice to all Americans and immigrants who are in the country legally and paying taxes. It is time we opened public debate once again in this very critical time for our country. I am strongly in favor of implementing a guest worker program. Having lived and worked as a guest worker in several European countries, I know it works and is a just way of addressing the need for foreign labor.

I would suggest immigrants, illegally in the US, should be given 6 months to apply for a guest worker permit. They should be able to apply in the US state in which they are currently residing. The application should request the US residence address, employment, foreign identification information and description of education level and skills. A background check should be made in the US and country of origin. If there is no criminal record a permit should be issued. If there is any reason to suspect the applicant shouldn’t be permitted to stay in the US they should be deported. The guest worker permit would allow them to work in the US for 6 years. They should be able to leave and return to the states as long as the work permit is valid.

Illegal immigrants should be deported when found in the US after the 6 months deadline if they haven’t applied for a guest worker permit. Any immigrant found in the US after 12 months, the two six month periods without a guest worker permit, should be deported immediately.

Any business or person found employing an immigrant without a guest worker permit after the 12 month period should be heavily fined.

Guest worker permits should be renewable after 6 years if the guest worker has no criminal record, is employed and is current with tax payments. They can apply for citizenship at the end of the first 6 years but must speak, read and write English enough to read and explain the constitution of the US.

Children born to illegal immigrants, who have not earned citizenship, should not be given US citizenship until after their 18th birthday and fulfilling language and employment requirements.

Guest workers, with permits, and employment must have health insurance supplied by employers with employee contributions, workman’s compensation, unemployment coverage and social security. Guest workers who are unemployed for more than 6 months or the term of unemployment insurance benefits, whichever is longer, loose their guest worker status and must reapply in their country of origin. If they are found in the US, unemployed for more than 6 months or after their unemployment benefits expire, they should be deported.

With the current economic recession, a good number of illegal immigrants have returned home for lack of work. Now would be a good time to implement a guest worker program while there are fewer illegals to be processed initially. Let’s open the debate now and solve this problem once and for all.

    7. Bruce Hall says:

It would be interesting to see what happens if states simply set proof of U.S. citizenship or legal entry, through state laws, for people within their borders to partake in such privileges as:

      - obtaining a driver's license

      - licensing a vehicle

      - purchasing property

      - attending public schools

      - receiving state welfare or assistance payments

and a host of other state-controlled activities.

If all persons were required to show such documentation [not necessarily carry it at all times], there could never… ever… be a rational or reasonable objection based on racial or ethnic discrimination or profiling. Proof would not be a social security card. Proof would be a birth certificate [which the state would verify] or immigration and naturalization papers [which the state would also verify]. Costly up front; less costly in the long run.

The penalty for providing false documentation: felony conviction by reason of fraud.

The recent enjoinder in the District Court for the "District" of Arizona left standing provisions related to amending state laws related to state authority. Let the Federal government face its own responsibility for border management. The states can legally make an inhospitable environment for those who would break the laws of our nation… without stepping on the toes of the Federal government.

I have suggested as much to the Governor of Arizona.

    8. Glenn Butler in Cent says:

While there are so many stats about how many illegals are really in the USA, let us not forget that amnesty will allow those illegals already here to bring in family members from Mexico up to 9 deep (I am told Bush's plan was 9 deep/can only imagine traitor obama's plan).

So if we have lets say 25 million illegals residing in the USA and they can bring in 9 family members you can see what a HUGE voting block and cheap labor is but a short distance away. That would multiply 25 million by 9 = 225 million.

I submit that our country has already been overthrown by the progressives and since we seem to be a Nation of Cowards the populus will allow this to happen!

    9. michael, Houston says:

An observation and question. It would seem that Judge Bolton did not rule in favor of the federal government's argument of presumption. Does this non ruling therefore allow Arizona to use this preliminary hearing ruling as a point against the feds?

    10. Tim Lucas Siloam Spr says:

To entertain the possibility of any respect for the Bill of Rights or The Constitution of the United States from this administration or any democrat is ludicrous. To ponder that these liberal appointed judges would also respect the above mentioned equally absurd.

    11. Carol,AZ says:

      RSVP TX,

No the ruling for the police to have had the same rights under the Federal ruling has been thwarted as a "stay" albeit going to the 9th District Court of Appeals to rabid L.A, CA which is fighting currently over giving gays the rights to marry , or not.

We all felt here in AZ, that this would happen and also know it will eventurally go to the Supreme Court.

The Header of this articles by H.F, states it clearly.

. IT IS POTUS who wants amnesty. Just wait until the mid-term elections are over. You TX Boys better be locked and loaded, since it has been up to TX and AZ to protect our own for months . Good luck there and also for standing with AZ along the way, alwasyI know the violence on your border as well as in AZ has risen to a new level. The beheadings are more numerous an as you knowthere the Cartels are proud of it. They don't try to hid the terroism.
