Remember President Barack Obama’s promise to the American people not to raise taxes? Forget about it. While the President has already raised taxes on cigarettes and tanning beds, none of that compares to what could happen in January. If you earn income, your taxes are about to go up. If Congress does not act to preserve current law, even the lowest 10 percent bracket will rise to 15 percent. Throw in tax hikes on capital gains, dividends and other tax code fixes, and the American economy is staring straight down the barrel of $3.2 trillion tax hike over the next ten years.
It doesn’t take a genius to realize that raising taxes by $3.2 trillion dollars would be an economic recovery killer. Even Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) admitted to CNBC yesterday: “We don’t need to raise taxes now.”
The tax raising culprit here is the expiration of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts set to take effect on January 1, 2011. The leftist majority in Congress is refusing to extend current law because they believe that these tax cuts are the cause of our trillion dollar deficits. They are wrong. Heritage Foundation research fellow Brian Riedl explains why in today’s Wall Street Journal: With Washington set to tax $33 trillion and spend $46 trillion over the next decade, how does one determine which policies “caused” the $13 trillion deficit? [President] Obama could have just as easily singled out Social Security ($9.2 trillion over 10 years), antipoverty programs ($7 trillion), other Medicare spending ($5.4 trillion), net interest on the debt ($6.1 trillion), or nondefense discretionary spending ($7.5 trillion).”
The real cause of our nation’s debt problem is spending. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), extending all the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts will place revenues at 18.2% of gross domestic product (GDP), which is actually above the 18% average over the past 50 years. Meanwhile, spending, which has averaged 20.3% of GDP over the past 50 years, is set to explode to 26.5% of GDP by 2020. These spending increases are being driven by our entitlement programs (Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid), which along with net interest payments are projected to rise by 5.4% of GDP between 2008 and 2020.
The leftist majority in Congress has had years to address this impending economic disaster but have refused to act. Last month, the House leadership announced that for the first time in the history of the budgeting process, they would not set a budget this year. And not only are they refusing to set any limits on their own spending, but now they are even talking about punting the tax issue into December so that they can raise our taxes without having to answer to the American voter. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) told The Hill earlier this month: “It’s not going to get done before the election. The lame-duck session is when all of this is going to get resolved.”
And the end of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts are just the beginning of President Obama’s tax hike spree. The Obama administration’s budget also calls for higher taxes on small businesses, higher taxes on energy and higher taxes on American companies that compete overseas. Speaking about the impending tax hikes on CNBC last night, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor said: “We should over the next three weeks focus squarely on small businesses and say right now, make sure we’re not going to raise taxes this year, the way the administration continues to talk.” Sen. Bayh not only agreed with Cantor, he even went a step further: “To Eric’s list, I would add some of the increased taxes on companies that do business overseas. We don’t need added uncertainty, added burdens on business right now.”

The "news" about tax raises is no "news" at all. Conservatives have been talking about the impending tax-raise debacle for years. I seriously doubt ithat any income tax bill will be dumped by Congress. There are too many voters who do not pay any serious income taxes, and therefore don't care about any proposed raises in income taxes, or increases in capital gains taxes for that matter. Their income tax "hits" would be minimal when compared to those increases that we "rich" voters face; as a result, don't expect this mass of low/no tax voters to be interested in writing their Congressmen to protest any tax increases.
With higher taxes on small business and energy, two more nails will be hammered in to the U.S. coffin. Don't tell me that Obama is not a Socialist. His actions speak for themselves.

Reporting Federal spending as 20.3% (average) of GDP is very misleading. Federal mandates to the states have ruled the day for the last 45 years. The federal government mandates the majority of state, county and local expenditures causing those governements' taxes and debt to increase catastrophically. Total government (federal and state) spending is currently at 43% (2009), and if this administration is unchecked, will soon be 48%. Our constitution is rendered completely void at these levels of government spending.
That number (percentage) equates to the total taxation on our economy.
As a conservative I would like to know why if President Bush's tax cuts are still in affect are we in such financial difficulty? And if this is where we are with the cuts heaven help us down the road.

I've come to the point to where I do not believe Obama really cares about the economic recovery . . . it is all about wealth redistribution.
More taxes and more spending is how the "transformed" government redistributes wealth.
I believe it was Cloward and Piven, who stated the way to destroy Capitalism, the Free Market Economy, is to grind it between Taxation and Inflation. Now we see the Taxation portion, with Inflation just starting to become apparent. You'll notice the price of food, etc, all increasing a couple percent a month. The buying power of the USD is down 30%, slow, so people won't panic, until the trap is sprung.
When the Bush tax cuts were enacted, it was well known that they would expire at the end of 2010. So much for the argument that businessmen need certainty–they have had it for ten years. Secondly, the reason that the cuts expire in 2010 was that that enabled the ultimate cost not to be so high. Third, ending the cuts is not "increasing" taxes; it is merely ending a period of reduced taxes. The rich should stop whining and be more concerned with the future fiscal health of the country. In other words, a litttle patriotism would be in order.
It's one crisis after another and each one causes more damage to our country, our economy or our our freedoms; it's like the entire Democratic Party has become the party of anti-Americanism or the Socialist Party of America. No matter which side of the isle, it is almost unbelieveable, to see an American Presdient and Congress inflict so much unnecessary pain and suffering on their constituents because of politcal motivations. The next thing that's going to get everybody tied up in knots is the finance reform bill; it looks to me like the unintended consequences of this bill are going to hurt more than help and we still don't have any reins on Fanmnie and Freddie. Healthcare costs coupled with the finance reform and added taxes spell disaster in the making.

My entire family is in oil and gas: upstream, midstream and downstream. This moratorium is a bunch of hogwash. Why doesn't Obama respect the judge throwing the previous moratorium out? Stuck on Stupid is so right. Doesn't anyone up there have enough common sense to know that if you raise taxes, there will be less sales, less disposable income (not that there is much of that these days), and so we make the poor poorer and the Washington elites won't even feel the effects because they are all tax cheats anyway.
Do they think this will be incentive to create jobs?? Can they really be this dumb? I feel like I am watching "Dumb and Dumber".
I pastor a Church in Moss Point, MS and about 7 miles away in Pascagoula, MS the local police unit providing security for the Gulf spill clean-up in our area confronted several men video-taping what appeared to be the beach area. This was approximately four weeks ago; and, the men told the officers they were covering the oil spill recovery. On further investigation of the men — on site — the police discovered that the men who were video-taping, who INCIDENTALLY were standing near a large oil refinery with huge petroleum tanks and large piles of nitrates, were actually muslim men working for Al Jazeera, the Middle East Muslim broadcast TV station. Oh, and I am positive they were all the way over here filming a documentary on oil spill recovery! THANK YOU LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR YOUR ALERTNESS AND WILLINGNESS TO STAND BETWEEN US AND THE ENEMY, WHEREVER THEY MIGHT BE FOUND — IF EVEN IN OUR OWN BACKYARDS! I have no doubt those men, or others like them, will be back to finish their mission.

It is instructive to study oppressors. Vladimir Lenin said, "The best way to destroy the capitalist system is to debauch the currency." And, " The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation." (Familiar themes anyone?) Whether you believe Obama and his ilk are Communists or just indescribably incompetent – it makes little difference. The net result will be the same – the destruction of our way of life, our liberty, our citizenship, and ultimately our dignity as sovereign individuals.
Please stop calling Social Security an entitlement program…If I must pay into a program to receive a return than it is not and entitlement… entitlement programs are like welfare and parity for framers things that people (citizens) have given themselves without putting anything into the system. This is not so for SS..just because it has been systematically robbed for decades and is now broke and must call its IOU's in from the Feds, does not make it and entitlement..We have all loaned money to a friend and at some point ask for it back.

1. Within the U.S., he believes in the redistribution of wealth under the fundamental premise that the rich could have only got there via incredible good fortune or some nefarious scheme. Therefore, their wealth is undeserved and should be redisributd to those who fortune didn't bless.
2. He also believes that the U.S. is no better than any other nation, and again, achieved its lofty economic status unfairly. He totally rejects the notion that free enterprise, hard work and capitalism provided the foundation for where America sits in the world order.
Thus, one of his underlying philosophies is to dismantle/weaken capitalism so that the U.S. lowers itself to the rest of the world.
He can accomplish both goals by raising taxes, especially on the rich, and thus impede or even destroy the creation of wealth (i.e., the total market capitalization of U.S. free enterprise.) which will simultaneously redistribute wealth both in the U.S. as well as the economic miight of the U.s relative to other countries.
His final tenet is that the federal government, especially his hand-picked administrative team is smarter than the U.S. citizenry and, therefore, fully deserving of the power they seek to impose on the rest of us.
Now, I can't speak for others, but my IQ (175) is higher than BHO's by a good 45 points (3 standard deviations), perhaps more, and higher than anyone in his administration. So if we're using smarts as a guide, why shouuld I listen to anything they say?
This man is dangerous, because he is an unconscious incompetent, i.e., he doesn't know anything and, worse, doesn't know it.

the aggregate cost of applicable employer-sponsored group health coverage

Starting in 2011 next year the W-2 tax form sent by your employer will be
increased to show the value of whatever health insurance you are provided.
It doesn't matter if you're retired. Your gross income WILL go up by the amount
of insurance your employer paid for. So you'll be required to pay taxes on a larger
sum of money that you actually received. Take the tax form you just finished for
2009 and see what $15,000.00 or $20,000.00 additional gross income does to
your tax debt. That's what you'll pay next year. For many it puts you into a
much higher bracket. This is how the government is going to buy insurance for
fifteen (15) percent that don't have insurance and it's only part of the tax increases, but it's not really a "tax increase" as such, it a redefinition of your taxable income.
Also, go to Kiplinger's and read about the thirteen (13) tax changes for 2010 that
could affect you.

Spend, spend, spend. Maxine Watters is a typical example of why we are financially destitute. Seems she added some $30 million annually to the federal payroll with her addition of diversity czars in each of the newly created financial regulatory overseeing departments! No amount of tax increases can keep up with the spending.
Social security, was paid into by working US citizens, but is now given to those who paid zero dollars. The program, that started in the 1935, stated that the funds were to be put into a trust, however our greedy politicians could not keep their sticky fingers out of it. It was never allowed to grow as it was designed to do . Now, all we have are useless IOU'S and useless politicians! To call Social security an entitlement is wrong. An Entitlement program, is the handing out benefits in Welfare, rent, food stamps, medical care and other subsidies to legal citizens in need, but our free spending politicians , now extend these programs to illegal aliens. How nice of them ! The politicians ,will not close our porous borders, which is an open invitation, to sneak in to reap the goodies, they think the pols are giving them. The Politicians are trolling for votes and are using our tax dollars to get reelected. Please do some research to find out who the Senator and House member is in your area, look at his or her voting record. In most cases, they are voting for themselves, and their lobbyist backers, and to H–L with the people they were elected to represent. Lets send a message in November. Vote in person or by absentee ballot— just be sure to vote wisely this time.
I would like to remind everyone that years ago when we were asking the government if they were using our Social Security money as a so called slush fund. The answer was no we are not using your Social Security money! Also how many years have we had to prepare for the baby boomers retiring? I think that these Congressmen and Senators stay in their government jobs so long and get so use to a endless source of money (our money) that they lose touch with reality. They do not seem to know what a budget is nor have common sense.

My gut feeling is that what is happening between the Current administration and the Congress is un-Constitutional and has got be addressed somewhere in the Constitution, but I am not a scholar of the Constitution and don't know this for a fact. Is anybody looking into this and preparing to do something about it or is all of the commentary and complaining empty talk?
The current occupant of the Oval Office doesn't seem to give two hoots about "constitutionality" and he surely doesn't give a hoot about empty talk.

Maybe if they were 'reminded' of this fact, they'd consider their actions a little more carefully. I doubt it though. They keep thinking that Obama will manage to pull some rabbit out of his @$$ and save them from losing their jobs. They are so far removed from reality, it's pitiful.

This article explains why many people in this country say crazy things like Obama has his hands on the throat of America, or that he hates America. The writer says that Obama campaigned on reducing taxes, except for the top 2% of earners (people making over $250,000). Now, he wants to CONTINUE the so-called "Bush tax-cuts," except for the portion of income above $250,000. He's not breaking a campaign promise, and he's not raising taxes for the lowest 10% bracket. The Republicans refused to even vote on the issue unless the taxes were continued for all (i.e. income above $250k). Instead of using this as a weapon to hurt Republicans at the polls, the Democrats moronically linked the bill to other agendas, thereby making a mess out of the whole situation. But the take-home is… the writer is completely misleading people… Obama pushed to continue the Bush tax cuts for everyone… except income over $250k… which is exactly what he campaigned on. There's no nuance beyond that.
