  • G-20: For Obama Administration, "Self Sustaining" Now Means "With Government Help"

In the often Orwellian world of government policy pronouncements, the Obama economic team is trying for new ground, with “self-sustaining” recovery, understood at least by the dictionary to mean “maintaining itself by independent effort,” now understood, according to Timothy Geithner and Lawrence Summers, as requiring extensive government support and intervention.

In an op-ed published June 23 in The Wall Street Journal, the two most senior Administration economic officials call on their G-20 colleagues to maintain government spending, establish a global framework for financial regulation, and to make efforts in agricultural development, food security, and to reduce consumption of fossil fuels.  According to Geithner and Summers, concerted action by G-20 governments is “the only effective way to confront the challenges that lie ahead.”  It seems they don’t view the recovery as so “self-sustaining” after all.

he is abusing all founding documents of America and corrupting the people as he goes.

Terry, the government has resources – 30% of the land mass of the United States. And it has about 35 million people unemployed with another 35 million dependent on those folks for survival. Forty-five million are on food stamps. Millions are on short term unemployment insurance payments who will then go on food stamps. With each working person now responsible for creating survival for an additional one more American person there is this hidden tax hitting workers. And no one is creating abundant new jobs to solve the situation.

    3. Trish says:

What is your solution to all of this? You are critical of government involvement yet you don't describe an answer to hunger, homelessness and joblessness for millions of Americans. Are they not worthy of your consideration?
The government has the resources needed to provide land, water, air, materials enough to get people in need started on creating their own self sustaining eco villages with adequate housing, common kitchens, cafeterias, laundries, and even schools and business centers & organic farming. There is enough human power to design, build and maintain and run such eco villages and there would be an end to the requirement for tax demands on the remainder of the population. It is also an humanitarian answer for folks desperate for a way to sustain themselves when there are no jobs in sight and finite funds to support them.

Big Government Is NOT the Answer

Your tax dollars are being spent on programs that we really don't need.
