  • Judge Blocks Obama’s Offshore Drilling Moratorium

President Obama’s ban on offshore drilling has come under heavy fire. The industries directly and indirectly affected by the offshore moratorium made their voice heard that they oppose the president’s moratorium, and just yesterday Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal argued in an amicus brief that “The drilling moratorium imposed by [the government] will only compound the State’s problems, effectively turning an environmental disaster into an economic catastrophe for the State.” Today, federal judge Martin L.C. Feldman issued an injunction that would block the White House’s offshore drilling ban. Feldman wrote,

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill is an unprecedented, sad, ugly and inhuman disaster. What seems clear is that the federal government has been pressed by what happened on the Deepwater Horizon into an otherwise sweeping confirmation that all Gulf deepwater drilling activities put us all in a universal threat of irreparable harm.”

While the effects on the price of gasoline from a drilling ban would be marginal, the economic effects felt by the Gulf would dump salt into the wound of a region coping with not just the spill but the recession in general. The American Petroleum Institute forecasts that if the drilling ban continues, more than 120,000 jobs could be lost in the Gulf Coast and key resources abandoned or moved elsewhere.

In fact, the Washington Times reports that “Oil company executives told Congress last week they would have to move their rigs to other countries because they lose up to $1 million a day per idle rig, and said there are opportunities elsewhere.” And let’s not forget the president’s pro-offshore drilling announcement included new bans on access to American energy, such as in Alaska’s Bristol Bay, where some lease sales were already pending.

Those who support the ban on offshore drilling warn about the risks of another disaster, but that’s why Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar had his list of recommendations for the president reviewed by the seven experts from the National Academy of Engineering. Their recommendation?

“A blanket moratorium is not the answer. It will not measurably reduce risk further and it will have a lasting impact on the nation’s economy which may be greater than that of the oil spill. We do not believe punishing the innocent is the right thing to do.”

The White House promised they would appeal right away. But they shouldn’t. The moratorium is unnecessary will have significant adverse economic impacts. Why take more jobs away from a region that is already struggling to manage a crisis?

Judge Feldman made the right call while being kind as to Obama and company's ulterior motive. Proof is the White House's plan for appeal. What a bunch of politically arrogant fools.

Obama is using this to continue to push through the liberal left's agenda w/o having to go through congress. It's an "end around".

With unemployment already at a true 17% and his constant bleating that unemployment is #1 abjective, why is BHO so adament to put several thousand more out of work?? This whole clean up has been a fiasco, BHO has kept progress from the scene, the Jones Act, EPA studies, commissions etc. these were all stall tactics so HE can get this bill passed and make him look good. He knows he is a failure, he's just not Man enough to admit he's in over his head. Cannot wait for Nov. hope people speak loud and clear.

If Mao-Bama wins the appeal the oil rigs will go to Brazil for their oil co.Petro Bras. Who will profit from this George Soros the puppet master. And the puppet master finds this very necessary. Mao-Bama's gain will be that he achieved another vital blow to America.

    7. Ross writes from Flo says:

Again with this President, we are again inflicted wih inept leadership with unsound decisions that has harm our an economy. I am astonished at the mismanaged by this President and his "useful idiots in the congress. Thank God above, a judge has placed an injunction to stop the drilling moritorum in the gulf. This is all madness!

This country has a serious leadership vacuum in the Presidency. And certainly now is not the time for On-the-Job-Training for a man who has never had serious a job…a real job. If past actions are any indication, he probably wouldn't listen to good advise anyway. The Executive Branch of our government is in need of a real, honest to God Chief Executive.

Now the question;, Will this Chief Executive be stupid enough to appeal the overturn of his poor decision? Yes by all indications, "Stupid is what stupid does."

(Forrest Gump) After all he IS the Leader, the President. But a more frighting question; Is this President that inept, that inexperienced, and thus incapable to serve at our President or is this by design to destroy the last bastion of liberty on the earth? Time will tell (in short-order).

I fear it is history being repeated…except back then, this leader was called "Das Fuhrer" and see what happened when that narsistic moron and his "useful idiots" grabbed power. It was not an uplift experience nor happy outcome.

I priay that clearer heads(if the Democrats have any) will prevail and stopped this madness. But if the last twenty years of action by our "congressional leaders" at work is an indication. It doesn't give me that "warm and fuzzy feeling."

Oh please!Let's discuss what Glenn Beck has exposed with regard to the drilling moratorium!!!So he can send the oil rigs to Brazil where they will drill even deeper& he can get personal kickbacks from Petrobras! What a pathetic excuse for a "leader"?Fast and pray that Obama reaps all that he has sown.

Apply Statistical Analysis to Obama's decision to destroy 14,000 Gulf Oil Jobs. The odds of 18,000 safe rigs to 1 spill makes Oil Production in the Gulf 99.99995% safe. You cannot argue that it is safety that motivates the Obominator. Our President destroys American Jobs, that is what he does. See? That is his job. He serves the Foreign Interest here and virtually everywhere else. If we could use Profiling against his Administration then they would all get caught! There is absolutely nothing lawful about the way they conduct business in the White House, Traitors do not have the same legal status as Officials who are actually elected to Office (as opposed to stealing elections). Criminals lose their Rights. You don't get off when you commit ten thousand crimes, just because nobody has the time to list them. The standards of Equal Protection Under Law puts Obama in the slam, it surely has put ordinary citizens under arrest for far far less.
