  • Encore Performance: Electromagnetic Pulse Armageddon

In case you missed it the first time around, EMP Armageddon, the National Geographic Channel series which examines the threat of Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), will be back on TV two more times: Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday at 6:00 p.m (of course check your local listings for details or visit National Geographic’s website.  You’ll recognize several famous faces, including Bill Graham, Chairman of the EMP Commission and one of the stars of The Heritage Foundation’s missile defense documentary, 33 Minutes, as well as Congressman Roscoe Bartlett—a champion for EMP research in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Electronic Armageddon is a must see for those interested in learning more about this “weapon of mass destruction” and how Congress and the Administration are simply choosing to ignore warnings that the United States is woefully unprepared for an EMP attack.  While you are at it, check out 33 Minutes .  Watching both, one thing seems clear — America’s adversaries have been persistent in their efforts to gain a competitive advantage against the United States in terms of offensive weaponry. The United States needs a clear line of defense against future threats.

What is it with people on this EMP, do most people think it is imaginary or what? You would think the US government has some secret defense so that it knows it needn't be concerned of such an attack. I don't think any such thing exists. Do the arrogant politicians think it is poppycock? Is it that there is no money in it for them under the table so it's on the bottom of the list? This real concern has to be at the top of the most neglected military defense issues. Could it be that someone or some committee has the brilliant concept that we could retaliate so quickly from something we would already have airborne that it would end a second attack…….??

For those that lie asleep to this EMP threat: In a recent news article House Rep. Y. Clarke, Chairwoman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emerging Threats, Cybersecurity and Science and Technology, in speaking about the GRID Act just passed (still just language and no actions) in a 'released statement' gave a description from China's military strategy:

"According to its ‘Cyber Warfare Doctrine,’ China’s military strategy is designed to achieve global ‘electronic dominance’ by 2050, to include the capability to disrupt financial markets, military and civilian communications capabilities, and the electric grid prior to the initiation of traditional military operations."

That's very clear as to China's intentions. And then there is North Korea and Iran, irrational zealots to say the least. And not as patient as China. And the US is still talking about what it could do and maybe it should look into in case it happens? I hope there are no taxpayer funded government employees that would ration that we are safe for the next 20-40 years from any attempt of EMP attack. I'm sure Iran and Venezuela (becoming fast friends) are not thinking that way. To my limited knowledge, Iran has a rocket that can travel 3500 miles; it's about 7300 miles from Iran to Central Florida but only about 1550 miles from Venezuela. Easy math.

I've come across MANY good blogs with the topic of EMP and let me just say, they all scare me. I know that this is an inevitable thing- but that doesn't mean it's not still frightening. People need to get their heads out of the sand and listen to the fact and GET PREPARED. Being in denial about it isn't going to make it not happen. I came across about a month ago a Radio Blog that has different guests go on their air. A guy named Peter Huessy was on their show and talked about EMPs and other different important topics. He was on it a few different times and he's going to be on it again on Wednesday the 13th (next week). I'm going to be listening in on it again to find out more facts with this subject. If you guys want to check it out too, here's the link: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/empact-radio/2011/07
