Government spending is increasing at an alarmingly quick rate. This is especially true when it comes to entitlement programs. In fact, entitlement spending will consume all tax revenue by 2052. But Congress is already spending at a breakneck pace accumulating unprecedented debt.
Sen. George LeMieux noticed this and had a very interesting observation when he tweeted:
Today the debt hit 13 trillion. The debt increased a trillion in less than a year. It took 191 years to amass the first trillion in debt.
This is very troubling because we are only going to get more marred in debt unless something is done to reform spending. Since Alexander Hamilton assumed all the war debts from the original 13 colonies, America has always been in debt. Only Andrew Jackson has been able to make us debt free, but in 25 years, unless we reform entitlement spending, debt will consume more than 180 percent of the economy.
Heritage has put together a Federal Budget Chart Book that graphically illustrates our growing problem. Something needs to be done about spending before our debt consumes us.

I just became aware of your site today, very informative, glad your out there to help us learn more about whats going on in our government and the world.
When is the government going to realize that unless taxes on the very wealthy are increased, there will be no recovery? Our economy cannot function without the flow of money. When all the money is stagnated at the top income levels, the wealthy are NOT investing or creating jobs.
I believe those who control the government (the wealthy), will cause our country to go into a depression that will not recover for many years. They will lose their wealth but at the expense of our country. Why not do it voluntary? It's going to happen anyway.
Hartman, who are you to suggest the wealthy pay your way? What's wrong with you paying your own way? The wealthy didn't make the choices government has. Why do you want to punish the wealthy and not do for yourself? Work to be rich if wealth is what you want. Opportunity was there for people to become wealthy that you now, complain about and now eliminated because of government leadership choosing to dismiss freedom from this country, inducing "socialism" in it's place, manipulating sympathies of those who don't want it!
Don't hate for unfair punishment on those that have done for themselves, pull up your own pants and walk on your own two feet. Try to think beyond the brainwashing.
Realize the government illusion is revealing personal WEAKNESSES that are exaggerated for your sympathies or your own personal weakness. Is that your preference?
I''d much rather have the freedom to take on opportunities to gain wealth then government stealing it from those that have taken the opportunities to be. The real fight is government tying the hands of some employers making it impossible to GAIN wealth.
Because government is 'public" so will be your obamacare records and everything the government is servicing! Wouldn't you much rather appreciate privacy in your life? And the dignity to run your own life in freedom?
