  • Morning Bell: This Congress Has No Shame

On February 4, 2010, pushing for passage of her pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) legislation, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said on the House floor: “When I became Speaker of the House, the very first day we passed legislation that made PAYGO the rule of the House. Today we will make it the law of the land. … So the time is long overdue for this to be taken for granted. The federal government will pay as it goes.” That was the promise. But here is the reality: in the three years that Speaker Pelosi has enforced her PAYGO rule, the House has violated it by nearly $1 trillion.

And now with the U.S. Debt Clock officially passing the $13 trillion milestone Wednesday, the House is set to violate their own PAYGO law yet again, this time to the tune of around $150 billion. The legislation clocks-in at almost one-fifth the size of President Barack Obama’s original $862 billion failed economic stimulus, and the leftist majority in Congress has titled it “The American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act.” And it is a tax-hiking, spending-exploding, job-killing, deficit-hiking wonder.

The Tax Hikes: The entire purpose of this bill was originally to extend some popular and well-established tax cuts that have been around for years but have to be reapproved every year. But being the big government lovers that they are, the left has crafted a bill that actually increases tax revenues by $57 billion over ten years. The biggest items are a job-killing tax on American corporations that compete overseas, a job-killing tax on innovation-creating venture capital partnerships, and a four-fold increase in the tax on oil production that ostensibly is supposed to go to the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund, but is instead being siphoned off to help pay for completely unrelated new domestic spending.

The Spending: The bill originally clocked-in at almost $200 billion, and Democrats have since cut the spending to just under $150 billion, $95 billion of which will go straight onto our children’s credit card bill in flagrant violation of Congress’ own PAYGO rules. Goodies include $26 billion for infrastructure, more than $40 billion for yet another unemployment insurance extension, another $24 billion bailout of state Medicaid programs, $8 billion in needlessly expensive health insurance subsidies, and $2.5 billion for states to increase their welfare rolls.  Even some Democrats are beginning to question the endless UI extensions, with Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA) telling The Washington Post that businesses back home complain that they want to start hiring but are getting few applicants because Congress has repeatedly extended unemployment benefits.

And then there is what was originally the largest-ticket item in the bill: $65 billion over three and a half years for increasing physician Medicare reimbursements, aka the “doc fix.” This one item alone proves that all of President Barack Obama’s claims that his health care law reduces the deficit are 100% false. The CBO report this month estimated that $276 billion would be required to shore up the “doc fix” over the next decade. Adding that spending to Obamacare’s already $940 billion total would easily push it into the red. That is why Congress did not address the problem in Obamacare. Brandeis University professor Stuart Altman calls the “doc fix” charade “one of the worst pieces of legislation I’ve ever seen.” The House has cut this version of the “doc fix” down to $21.8 billion just through December 2011.

Across the country, millions of American families are struggling to make family budgets and keep to them. Not Congress. For the first time in the history of the budget process, the House of Representatives has failed to plan how they will spend your tax dollars. Instead they will recklessly continue to flagrantly violate their own PAYGO rules as they add billions and billions worth of debt onto your children. This Congress has no shame.

    1. Dennis Social Circle says:

We as concerned citizens must bring this to a halt. We must demand that Congress spends only what they have, not borrow more to pay for the entilements that so many think are necessary. WE MUST VOTE IN NOVEMBER AND TELL THOSE THAT ARE PUT IN OFFICE TO REMEMBER WHO THEY WORK FOR.

    2. Todd Wolf, Limerick, says:

Effective leaders understand freedom finds order in the chaos; efficient leaders force order and create chaos. Effective leaders create the conditions for success; efficient leaders make success conditional in order to control the conditions. The Conservative Movement is in dire need of effective leadership.

I see myself as a Traditional Non-Conformist and seek out those who have a Traditional Non-Conformist Sense of Life. As someone who has real life experience in organizing people around the greatest common denominators of ideas, values, contribution, participation, personal growth and development, and the concept of real liberty and freedom, I identified early in life that the role of a leader is that of a facilitator, a mentor, a catalyst, consigliere, and a reasonable and prudent communicator of the reality of what is, what is possible, and the cost and consequences of the way we would like things to be. The nurturing of productive relationships requires that every person who shares the passion and identifies with the mission needs access and the opportunity to come to the table of ideas and share their experiences, thoughts, ideas and opinions in conversations that matter. The leader who understands this understands that his/her purpose and responsibility is to set the table … create an open and welcoming environment that encourages participation and contribution, provide the spark and some direction to enable the conversation to happen and the wisdom of the crowd to emerge … real organic organization. The greatest teachers are perpetual students. Talking the talk of "leaderless organizations" and walking the walk of the "low profile leader" takes a disciplined and honest self-reflective approach to teaching and not preaching while learning and discerning the difference between control and influence. The time is now for the Republican Party to express their Traditional Non-Conformist Sense of Life.

Capital markets can not be truly competitive markets if they are not truly free markets. Free market capitalism requires free market conditions that are conducive to capital productiveness. Every individual must have barrier-free and coercion-free access to opportunity of participation as a capitalist.

A Constitutional Democratic Republic can not realize its true potential if it is not a true Constitutional Democratic Republic.

    3. Kevin says:

      Fuck Pelosi

      Fuck Reid

      Fuck Obutthead

they're ALL criminals! Chicago-style, CRIME INC. If we had a media tha wasn't spayed and neutered, NONE of this would be happening!! The one thing I'm sure of is that our media died when Uncle Walter said we lost the war after the Tet offensive. It's all been downhill from there.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!

    4. Daniel Hollywood, 15 says:

This Congress just like our President is a Tax and Spend bunch, this upcoming November we have to clear house of all tax and spend Legislators and in 2012 get rid of Obama, The Idiots that believed any of his Campaign promises are the reason we are in our current situation. We have to take back control of the House and Senate, repeal ObamaCare and start cutting taxes and getting people back to work. Ronald Reagan proved that lowering taxes in particular Corporations will improve the Economy and will stimulate growth.

    5. Steven D. Shurtleff says:

This congress has NO CLASS either, they have ALL violated their OATH OF OFFICE!!

    6. Richard Cancemi. Arl says:

There is no honesty in Congress.

There is no personal integrity in Congress.

There is no adherence to the Constitution in Congress.

There is no personal responsibility in Congress.

There is no wisdom in Congress.

There is no morality in Congress.

      They care only about themselves!

The same goes for the Executive branch!

The general population is made poorer by their good-for-nothingness!

The USA is being ruined by these hypocrites and hooligans, all.

    7. Priscilla Junggren, says:

Conservatives complain and I agree with every thing they lament, but no one seems to be able to stop Obama and no one seems to have the initiative to hold those who are committing treason responsible. I am losing faith in conservatives who are afraid of the race card and Nancy Pelosi! There is talk about observing the Constitution but talk is cheap! I want to see some action!

I think Republicans are kicking the can down the road hoping that the situation will take care of itself. So far it hasn"t!

    8. Charles Nystrom, Sum says:

From information regularly provided by Heritage and due also to my regular and diligent research, I know about the spending scandal that is Washington. Unfortunately, until the general public also begins to understand the sad consequences for them, it is just rhetoric.

Heritage does yeoman's work to provide this understanding but, I fear, its reach is not nearly sufficient. The challenge of how to penetrate the public's consciousness remains.

      But don't stop trying.

    9. Mike in McLean says:

As Will Rogers once said: "On account of being a democracy and run by the people, we are the only nation in the world that has to keep a government four years, no matter what it does."

    10. Dave, Provo, UT says:

If anyone with a clear mind can still believe what Speaker Billosi promises I have a tropical paradise condo on our Great Salt Lake for sale, cheap.

    11. Al Wunsch, Fl says:

No one likes to cut back on their spending and no one likes to take a job only to find it being cut back on them. On th other hand, people need to understand that without income, the budget cannot be met. Apparently some people, like the dems in congress, will push for spending until the roof falls in. It takes a stalwart leader, with common sense, to force the public to cut back on their government spending because they love their state and their country. It also isn't fair to put the burden entirely on that leader to fix the problem without supporting them. They do it because they love their state and their country.

    12. Dennis Albert HELLER says:

"WELL" I'm -66yrs of age. And the Government and Laws along with Church & State have CHANGED for the worse. There is NO-LONGER any RESPECT for

the people of this Country. The Spend , Spend ,and Spend more Style of Government. Those so called people in Washington must "GO" Those people there who DO-NOT wish to take care of the Citizens MUST !!! Be Replaced with

People who Care. Seniors , Children , Disabeled and alike come first. "GOD" Bless AMERICA He Must because Washington DOES NOT CARE..

    13. Al Wunsch, Fl says:

The above comment was in reference to the Gov Christie comment not this piece.

    14. Bernard Ballou MD Ga says:

I am a physician. I am terribly sorry that you don't like the "doc fix". We have been paid pennies on the dollar for years. Costs continue to climb. Now we face a 21% cut. I my geriatric practice, that means closure. I can move into the hospital, shed all of my overhead, and make a living of sorts. Many of us will have to do the same. What happens to primary care? Either get rid of Medicare entirely-OK by me- or pay us enough to keep our practices open. Frankly, I don't care which. I would suggest that you stop behaving as though meager compensation for a high level of acquired expertise and service is a boondoggle.

    15. Lloyd Scallan - New says:

Mr. Carroll. I'm amazed that you are wirtitng this article as if you are surprised.

You, and so many other so called "conservative American", still cannot understand or reconize that almost every Democrat in Congress is in lock step

with Obama to collapse our entire economical system so they can force a

socialist form of government. It's right there in front of you nose. Everything that is

being done is deliberately designed to complete Obama's agenda. You, and so many others had better wake-up to reality before it's too late. It may be too late

    16. bigdave ocala fl says:

Yeah, and the SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM is to help with retirement and disability FOR AMERICANS ONLY. As usual, the joke is on us! The JOKERS RULE and they are STILL THERE except for Kennedy who lived too long! They make their promises and steal our money. Why are all the democrat politicians suddenly RICH when they were broke attorneys going into office?! And then in office they rail against RICH PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY EARNED THEIR MONEY?! Obama! Suddenly a multi-millionaire!? Why don't all you rich, corrupt politicians just take your money and LEAVE!!! Your damage is done! Leave it to us Americans to build things back up, and leave the liberals behind. If you don't think AMERICANS are different…WHY AREN'T THE BEST BASKETBALL TEAMS IN AFRICA? WHY DOES THE US HAVE ALL THE "WORLD STAGE ACTORS"? SOCIALISM SAYS EVERYONE IS PAID THE SAME AND HAS THE SAME. BETTER BE CAREFULL WHAT YOU ASK FOR.

    17. Charlyn Hille, Broke says:

Tell me what to do about all this spending. Calling Congress doesn't seem to work- they just do it anyway despite what the American taxpayers want. We don't have any voice anymore and by November our debt will be so high we will never recover.

    18. Bob Willard, San Ant says:

This sucks. Truly, If any Republican Congress members vote for this bill, then they too when it come time for their reelection, should be replaced with someone who will for once hold true to their word of pay as you (we) go.

    19. Ken Jarvis - Las Veg says:

"Treasury made a PROFIT OF $1.32 BILLION

on sale of Citigroup Shares. "

Looks like the ONLY place to get TRUTH IS FROM ME.

    20. Ron Derry says:

Americans have accepted the lies of the left more than the lies of the right so eh bottom will get deeper as the only salvation in any storm is realities compass.

We as nation need to understand that money doesn't secure worth but that actions based on truth and against the onslaught of perpetual debt is the only preserver of our future that is true to our survival.

Confucius says " man who holds mortgage owns the house"

Increasing debt, lying and creating false hope by ever printing money is not a course of safety but one of desperation.

    21. Norm Klevens says:

What is in this article, that sums up our economic problems, that gets me the most is that entities like Brandies University and the Wash Post can be both supportive and unfavorable about the same issue. They were for the Health Insurance Bill and all of the spending before they were against it. And yet there are people, including some who are included in the multitude of polls that everyone seems to rely upon to tell us how good something is.that when the issue they backed fails [or does not do well, to be PC] they can come out against it. At what point do the people in the so called middle; the undecided get that have to think for themselves?

    22. rod56 says:

they all should be made to pay all the tax payers back all the tax payers money they have wasted and take a big fat pay cut,,all they do is set on their azses and do nothing but make new laws agaisn't the american people and raise taxes and they get away without paying.they all should IMPEACHED and clean out the white house there are to many in the white house trying to run out amercia…they don't need all these weed heads in congress or the goverment…

    23. Dan Aurora, Colorado says:

Of course they have all been lies. All of this 'cabal's' efforts have been about control not improvement of our healthcare, the military, national defense, economy etc. It's been philosophical from day one. It might not be a bad time to be a unionized Wall Street Banker with shares in the pharmaceutical and 'Global Warming industry!'

    24. Dina Williams says:

They are sick in the head, that's all the explanation I can come up with. How can they sleep at night? How can supposedly smart people look themselves in the mirror after such hypocrisy? Do they just imagine that they'll be dead before the country implodes? Does the left have some nefarious plan to kill the USA and default on all our debts and start a new communist country? None of it makes sense. They have no honor, no shame, no morals, and NO MONEY.

    25. steve,palatine,IL says:

Dr Ballou, to keep your post in perspective, what is your annual income? I am sure you are not scraping by on 1100$ a month, like your patients, income and comfort is all relative.

    26. Mark Davis says:

Obama embodies all the elements of the incompetents who have run other countries into the ground. Over spending, illusive intiatives and a fundamental misunderstanding of those he serves. Those who voted for him are finally realizing the disaster they created by unleashing this hydra into our midst.Others like me are trying to stem the deluge of programs coming from those practicing constitutional dementia.MD demonsofdemocracy@gmail.com, follow on twitter: twitter.com/demonsdemocracy

    27. Mark Davis says:

Why does the Heritage foundation use mostly attorneys to interpret the reality around us? Even healthcare is analyzed by attorneys not those trained in the field. Most lawyers have elusive backgrounds that do not summate into expertise that your foundation relies on for its editorializations. Perhaps you can approach the medical profession to analyze the health bill such as 3590 just passed. Balanced reporting may add more credibility to your printed material and attrack more members such as myself. MD platosrun@yahoo.com follow us on twitter; twitter.com/platosthoughts

    28. Robert Cassatt , Ham says:

We have a Socialist as President, bent on destroying what was once "The Greatest Nation on Earth" AND the the Congressional" SHEEP" are sure helping him do it! Best remedy is to push for his resignation and to vote …replacing all members of Congress! At 88 years old, I never thought I would ever see a mess like this!!!!

    29. Tom Woodard says:

Todd Wolf: Excellent Comment! From one non-conformist to another.

    30. toledofan says:

It's obvious to me that the only way we're going to get back on track is to cut spending, cut the size of the government and reduce the entitlements to levels say in 1994. But, we know that isn't going to happen, simply, because the democrats don't know how to do anything else. It's time to start fixing the problems rather than to just keep throwing money at them hoping they will go away. It really is a sad day for us all because we are not only squandering our freedom, we're putting our kids in a very precarious position. The ideology of the administration is so out of touch with reality it is just flabbergasting to watch and try to understand.

    31. Jackson, Denton, TX says:

Both parties go through this vicious cycle: When in power they tax like kings and pharoahs, and spend like drunken sailors (I know, I used to be one – but I quit spending when I ran out of money – no chance of that happening in congress).

THEN when they are not in power, they complain to high heaven about the mess THEY created, thereby casting aspersions on those in power…what a crock.

    32. Blair, Franconia, NH says:

Have you no shame, Madam Speaker? Have you no shame? I make no apologies for

paraphrasing the Army's attorney in the famous, (make that infamous), Army-McCarthy hearings of the 1950s. Like Tailgunner Joe, Speaker Nancy Pelosi,

and her crew, have no shame. She runs the People's House, like a Mafia don. However, I'd be better off with Tony Soprano as Speaker than Nancy Pelosi. Why?

Because the Mafia has a code of honor and the Congress doesn't.

    33. MJ, Atlanta, GA says:

To hear about the continued spending is certainly discouraging, but none of us should stop demanding that congress cut spending and taxing us. If we stop trying, then we've given in. The next step is to focus on the people in power for the November election. Its not enough to get a Republican majority, we need to get the powerful politicians doing the damage out of office. Some examples – Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Edolphus Towns and Senators Max Bachus, Sander Levin and Harry Reid. There are many, many more.

My suggestion is to focus on specific races against some of the more powerful Democrats this November. If you like the opponent – give money directly to the opponent and not the RNC. Whether this person is in your state or not – its important to hit directly at the power center of the group that is doing the most damage to our country. If we get some of those Democrats out of office – it will be a huge victory – at a much needed time.

    34. Kevin Habib, Glen Bu says:

Dang, there seems to be an awful lot of delusional misinformation out there.

I most love how sunddely folks think Republcians are fiscally responsible and know what to do with the economy – when they took a 6.7trillion dollar projected surplus and drove it into a 6trillion dollar projected deficit. And look at the devestating economic recession the Republican policies took our country into. 2 trillion dollars of un-paid-for tax cuts, trillions un-paid-for to run 2 wars, trillions in unfunded liability for their Medicaid Rs drug program, etc….

And now, the very same Members who are railing about deficits and debts want to see the estate tax extended for the wealthies families in American. You can't have it both ways. We tried the GOP way of tax cut after tax cut and it devestated the country. Suddenly, when the Dems take over Congress and White House, the economy begins to grown, GDP grows, the stock markets increase over 60%, consumer confidence grows, retail sales grow, etc….

Yet we have folsk who listen to the misinformation and actually think the Republicans have answers? You have folks like bigdave who obviously has very little knowledge of any policy and regurgitates what he hears and fanatic websites – things like Members were poor before takign office (please dave – provide examples of what Members were poor before taking office) – or that Social Security benefits would be received by illegal aliens (another ridiculous claim). It's sad to read that peopel actually believe some of the absurdities out there and think that the democrats are destroying the country – where all the overwhelming evidence points to the terrible economis situation we were in 2 years and how much better it has gotten. Last month of GW administraion: 740,000 jobs lost. Last month, 240,000 jobs added. Seems like easy chocie to me.

    35. Thor H. Asgardson says:

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."

      Marcus Tullius Cicero

(106-43 B.C.) Roman statesman, philosopher and orator

Attributed 58 B.C. Speech in the Roman Senate

The body politic of this nation is rotten to the core. The problem extends beyond merely a few legislators with no sense of shame, for these lawgivers are a direct threat to the national security of the United States of America.

At every turn and bend on the sea course our ship of state traverses, these ostensible “public servants” seek to directly thwart the will of the American people. They create a 2,000 page health care bill and yet both the heads of DOJ and Homeland Security will not bother to read the 17 page immigration law bill of Arizona, as it directly impacts the entire nation.

The invaders are not only within the gates, but are directly enabled by the quisling hyenas who pose as illustrious statesmen, even as they give our country away to invasion.

The ostensible “president,” who is really an illegal alien, Muslim usurper, stands poised to open the floodgates of this nation to the Mexican Reconquista. He tells us that we must now learn Spanish. He is America’s version of Maximilian I of Mexico and must be deposed from power by the Second American Revolution.

Resident Obama apologizes to all the nations of the world on his apology tours. He bows and scrapes before foreign potentates. His kowtow of apology shames the nation and disgraces not only the office of the presidency, but the preeminent status of this nation on the world stage. Obama’s recent gut-spilling to Red China–which has the worst human rights record of all–reveals that he will apologize for imagined sins of this republic, to garner the approval of everyone but his own people. This approval-seeking mode of Obama is NOT the hallmark of the presidency.

“There is a rank due to the United States, among nations, which will be withheld, if not absolutely lost, by the reputation of weakness. If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known that we are at all times ready for war.”

George Washington, Annual Message, December 1793

What must the Red Chinese think of a weak leader who shames this nation on the world stage, by apologizing for an alleged “racism of the citizens of Arizona? This especially in light of the fact that the American people elected a black president and currently suffer a Mexican occupation army engaged in active annexation of American territory?

Obama tells the American people–who know better–that this nation is not defined by its borders, but by alleged “bonds” with the Mexican invader.

This weltanschauung of a simpleton, reveals that Obama imagines any form of body can survive without its skin.

Resident Obama not only lacks the prerequisites of the presidency, but provides window dressing–in the form of 1200 national guard troops–sent to the border, with no real powers of active enforcement of this nation’s immigration laws. They might as well go defend Target Corp. from shoplifters.

How many more Americans must die at the hands of these Mexican scarecrows who break into our nation and swarm over the country like a band of locusts?

The Manchukuo puppet emperor of America’s secret government of rule by oligarchy, must now be forcibly removed from high office for violating the protocols of the founding fathers. His mere presence in office, without providing proper credentials of American citizenship, is a direct frontal assault on the Constitution.

The American people have now witnessed Arizona’s governor pleading with the Obama administration to do its job, which should stand as a stark testament to the fact that the Obama administration is not only one of sloth and inertia, but also criminally inclined and complicit in the downfall of this great republic.

All of these lawmakers should be slapped by the spirit of General George S. Patton, Jr., in the form of a military coup to remove them from power.

The American people look to this nation’s armed forces as the spearhead of the Second American Revolution, as those forces are composed of our sons and daughters who have repeatedly paid the ultimate price for preservation of this republic, while those at the top of the hierarchy continually strive to undermine all that the American people hold dear, by enforcing the “political correctness” of Marxism.

Someone is throwing people into the river and the American people have become exhausted by endeavoring to save each one–in the form of our traditions and laws–rather than finding why so many are floating by.

It is clearly time to go upriver and find out who or what is throwing people into the water.

The choice is clear in the question of Manifest Destiny of our national survival. Will America acquiesce to abandonment of Her status as Supreme Shogun on the world stage, in favor of adopting vassalage under the boot of the United Nations?

Will America pave the way for the ascendancy of Big Brother, by continuing to operate under the deficit financing of a central molesting bank, which holds the American people in bondage to usury? That very same bank put a guest worker–without credentials–in the White House.

How can the American people expect the corporate-occupied government on Capitol Hill to extend the wings of the American Eagle, when those wings have been crippled and sullied by the oil spill of directives from the corporations?

America’s great question of national survival will impact all the other nations of the world, which are now struggling with their own versions of cultural genocide at the hands of the ubiquitous “guest worker.”

Where do murderers go, man! Who’s to doom, when the judge himself is dragged to the bar?

      Herman Melville

    36. Don, Raleigh, NC says:

      This Congress has got to go. Their actions prove that their sole intent is to get as much of their socialistic agenda implemented as soon as possible with no regard for public opinion, their constituents, their Country or the oath they took;

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

Apparently meaningless nonsense, part of the grand game they came to Washington to play. Game's over………very soon now.

    37. Bill Lee, ArkLaTex a says:

Dr. Ballou is right I have a doctor friend, I have known for years. He is a GP, great doctor and has good ability to talk to patience and get to the core of the problem. He puts his patiences at easy by talking about fishing or hunting which he does. He works long hours and makes great decisions with empathy and well I can't say enough good about him. He helped me with my mother and later my wife as their lifes were near the end.

He told me he will retire if the "HealthCare" become as reality, even though he is just in his middle 50's. We will miss this great doctor but he is tired of the government telling him how to practice medicine.

Wonder how many good doctors will quit with this socialism being forced on medical care?

    38. Georgette Jetty says:

Our gov. should only be spending money on our military, our boarder, the oil spill (national disaster), and social security (because we have already paid billions to the gov. to help our elderly). All other expenses should be handled by the states. TAKE THE CHECK WRITING PEN OUT OF THIS ADMINISTRATIONS HANDS!!!!!!! They are bleeding us to death. The cash cow is DEAD!!.

    39. Bob H., Raleigh, NC says:

This is disgusting what The Community Organizer and his band of thugs in Congress are doing to this country, our children and grandchildren. When are the American people going to stand-up, do something and say enough is enough? This cannot continue to go on. This has become a matter of vital importance about the debt they are putting this country into. Regardless of what you political party is, we need to wake-up and do something before it is too late. We do not have much time left, if any at all!

    40. Mike Sheahen, Hickor says:

Regarding the article entitled "This Congress Has No Shame", about the tax-hiking, spending-exploding, (private business and) job-killing, deficit-hiking wonder which is the so-called " American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act", it is all so very true, except for a pivotal problem of inconsistency which is found where it is said " The entire purpose of this bill was originally to extend some popular and well-established tax cuts that have been around for years but have to be reapproved every year. But being the big government lovers that they are, the left has crafted a bill that actually increases tax revenues by $57 billion over ten years".

What's the pivotal problem of inconsistency in that?

First, the fact is that significant enough tax cuts, either permanent or repeatedly extended, can, if they're significant enough, actually have the effect of increasing instead of decreasing tax revenues, unlike higher and more government taxing and spending which actually has the effect of reducing tax revenues, which is something even such a so-called "Progressive/Liberal" as John F. Kennedy knew, even though he called it a "paradox", when he said "It is a seeming paradox that cutting tax rates significantly has the effect of increasing rather than decreasing tax revenues", and helped cause (even after he died) one of the most significant (and most beneficial to all) tax cuts in American history (which ended-up being called "the tax cuts of 1964").

In other words, it is inconsistent to say anything like the claims by spendthrift politicians that such as their raising their taxing and spending thus raises tax revenues and creates jobs, since it is so certified, documented, and so repeatedly shown and proven throughout our history to this day that doing so actually has the effect of reducing and even killing economic activity, including the creation and continuation of businesses and jobs, and so actually reduces and even kills sources of taxes, including businesses and jobs, and so actually reduces tax revenues.

Other than that, the above referenced article is right on target.

The Conservatives are dragging their feet in the hope that everything will magically change in November. It won't. We have to follow through with effective leadership and get this bunch out of our government now! It will take a lifetime to rectify the wrongs they are doing to the American people. Waiting until november to get Obama and Pelosi out of office will be too late. Obama has already signed the Global Arms Control Treaty with the U.N. He says they will CONTROL our Constitutional Right to own guns. I see this is as a prelude to having the terrorists from the camps in the USA to go on a killing spree against unarmed citizens. Obama allows them to remain in our country and wants the borders open to allow them free uninhibited access to our country. Why would he allow the terrorist access, if he didn't intend to use them. Please. Let's get this situation back in control of the American people before it is waaay too late. Every day Obama perpetrates more treason against us.

In the game of "Monopoly", anyone can win, if allowed to print their own money.

If we must shout, then let us shout for the incumbants opponents and assure their election this November!

If we are to have chage, then let us have change beginning withnew ideas form new minds, because no problems were ever solved by the same minds that crated it in the first place.

If we are all so tired of Obama and his selling the sould of America, then let us remove his Arms, the Senate, and his legs, the Representatives, with our votes, and his voice, the Media, by boycot.

    50. Jeff Lukens says:

All this is why we need the Line Item Veto. Lawmakers simply do not have the discipline to control the budget. The problem is systemic to our whole elected government. While the Supreme Court struck it down that law in the 1990s, the recourse left now is to amend the Constitution. The time is now to go to work on this before we become insolvent.
