  • In Their Own Words: Gov. Brian Schweitzer on Obamacare and Belly Button Lint

Asked how Montana has managed to squirrel away a $400 million surplus while 48 other states in the Union are all in the red, Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) told Morning Joe: “The reason we have money in the bank is we said ‘no’ to everybody that asked for it.” But what if somebody comes along who Schweitzer can’t say ‘no’ to?

Last July Schweitzer called Medicaid “a system that isn’t working” and noted that through Obamacare Congress wanted “increase the number [of people] on Medicaid so they could do it for the cheap” costing his state hundreds of millions of dollars in matching funds. To their credit the hosts on Morning Joe pressed Schweitzer on whether Obamacare would bankrupt his state. At first he responded “It didn’t challenge the underlying costs of health care in this country” but then largely dodged the question. But after being pressed a third time about whether the state mandated spending in  Obamacare would bankrupt his state, Schweitzer predicted: “[The spending] is kicked down the road. And if you believe that this bill is not going to change between now and ’17, ’18, and ’19, when a lot of this kicks in, then you are smoking your own belly button lint.”

Over half of all Americans who gain health insurance through Obamacare will do by enrolling in Medicaid. While the federal government picks up the tab for the first few years, starting in 2015 states Obamacare forces states to spend more on Medicaid without any additional federal funding. That is why honest Democrats like Gov. Schweitzer are predicting financial catastrophe absent major revisions to this very flawed legislation.

Repeal the socialist health care program. It's not fair. Do you know that Muslims in this country are not going to be forced to buy health care like the rest of us? Plastic Face Pelosi was right when she said no one would understand this bill until it is passed. The more you get into it, the more you realize that this bill has very little to do with health care. By the way, if Muslims are not forced to buy health care, just who do you think is going to pick up the tab for them? Have any of you notices that most Muslim Women of child bearing age are pregnant, or am I the only one?

    2. Montana voter says:

Montana is not in good fiscal shape: spending over the last 5 years has skyrocketed under the Schweitzer administration and huge budget deficits are in the future.

      From the Billings Gazette, 4/30/2010

"If current revenue trends hold, the 2011 Legislature could be facing a $405 million general fund deficit for the next two years. That would require a 10 percent budget cut if there are no tax increases, said Terry Johnson, the Legislature’s chief revenue forecaster."

Whatever he says about Obamacare, "honest" is not exactly the term I would use to describe our governor.

    3. John, Rhode Island says:

An honest Politician, and a Democrat at that. Damn, I didn't think those existed.

    4. Longhorn Grad, Austi says:

Montana doesn't have a surplus. This is bogus, as Montana voter notes.

    5. Former Montanan says:

The fact that Governor Schweitzer gladly accepted the stimulus money (against objections from legislators in both parties) from the Feds and then has the audacity to tout his fiscal responsibility should tell you all you need to know. Any state legislature that accepted stimulus funds to patch them through knows the day of reckoning is coming and, for some, it already has.

As Henry Hazlitt so aptly put it:

Today is already the tomorrow which the bad economist yesterday urged us to ignore.

And here's an excellent example of how the stimulus dollars being put used in Montana:

Because, as we all know, our border problems are primarily with our neighbor to the North. Right.

    6. Mel Z says:

Gov. Schweitzer used creative accounting just like all the Dems do to create fantasy propaganda pieces. He certainly accepted stimulus money and his so-called "surplus" is nothing but a lie. Bravo to those calling him out on that and I hope that the people of Montana do not fall for his nonsense. The Gov talks a good game using conservative diction, but in the end, he's no different than these lap dog Dems.

NO In State Tuition————- For Illegal Immigrants

What is happening to the United States !!!!!l

1.The California Supreme Court has decided that illegal immigrants in California have a right like any other legal California

resident to pay only in state tuition.

The only right illegal immigrants should have is a free ride back from where they came

2.President Obama calls for budget cuts. How does this decision fit in with reducing the deficit

President Obama’s administration and the Democratic congress are more concerned with illegal immigrants than they

      are with Americans,for example:

      • They willl not give Senior Citizens a cost of living increase in 2011 and did not give them one in 2010.

      • They want to cap future cost of living increases for senior citizens

      • The Health Reform bill will reduce Medicare payments to doctors who treat senior citizens. This will

make it more difficult for senior citizens to find doctors who will give them the medical assistance they need

      • They want to increase our tax rates and eliminate tax reductions but give amnesty to illegal immigrants

3.Will someone tell me how California can afford to increase its state budget to pay for this additional benefit to illegal

immigrants. California already spends about 5 billion dollars a year to provide benefits for illegal immigrants. Will President Obama give them stimulus money to cover their overextended budget.? Will President Obama use this decision as a precedent

to require other states to provide in state tuition to other illegal immigrants?

President Obama says he wants to reduce the national deficit ,yet he wants to provide amnesty to illegal immigrants which will

put a horrendous burden on state and federal budgets

      • The cost of harboring illegal immigrants in the United States is a staggering $113 billion a year according to a study conducted by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

      • The report states that an amnesty program wouldn’t appreciably increase tax revenue and would cost massive amounts in Social Security and public assistance expenses. An amnesty “would therefore be an accentuation of the already enormous fiscal burden,” the report concludes.

      • The single largest cost to the government of illegal immigration, according to the report, is an estimated $52 billion spent on schooling the children of illegals. “Nearly all those costs are absorbed by state and local governments,’ the report states

When is America going to wake up and tell President Obama that he is a fraud!
