  • Morning Bell: What's Worse Than Energy Taxes? Renewable Electricity Standards

    wind turbines

On March 15th, appearing with labor and environmental leaders, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa unveiled a new alternative energy plan that he said would ensure the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power would meet his goal of securing 20% of its energy from renewable sources such as wind and solar by December 31st. At the time, he claimed it would create 16,000 jobs and only raise consumer electric bills between 8.8% and 28.4%. But less than two weeks later those energy rate hike estimates had skyrocketed with the DWP saying it needed to raise rates by 37% in order to meet the renewable energy standards. Los Angeles’ already shrinking business community revolted and by April Mayor Villaraigosa’s plan had been soundly defeated.

What played out in Los Angeles is now about to play out in Washington. Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) has been marshaling his American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACELA) through committee and is set to move it to the floor soon. The heart of Bingaman’s plan is essentially the same as Mayor Villaraigosa’s: a renewable electricity standard (RES) that mandates sellers of electricity to produce a growing percentage of their power from renewable energy sources every two years. And like Mayor Villaraigosa’s plan, Sen. Bingaman’s renewable energy standards would also mean higher electricity prices for all Americans.

The inconvenient truth is this: nearly half of America’s electricity is generated from coal. Natural gas and nuclear energy add about 20 percent each. Most of the rest is provided by renewable sources, primarily hydroelectric energy at 6 percent. Non-hydro renewables like wind, solar energy and biomass total only 3 percent. And this is after decades of existing generous renewable subsidies. If electricity created by wind and other renewables were cost competitive, consumers would use more of it without a federal law to force consumption. But renewable energy is not cost competitive, hence the need for government coercion to force the American people to buy it.

But just how much more will we have to pay for energy under renewable electricity standards? There are federal studies of the costs of an RES that conclude that it would add no more than a few percent to electric rates. But these studies do not take the full cost of wind and other renewables into account, including the additional resources needed to overcome the intermittent and unreliable nature of wind energy or the construction of new transmission lines connecting rural wind generation to urban power needs.

Taking all these additional factors into account, the Heritage Foundation’s Center for Data Analysis has crunched the numbers and found that at an RES would: 1) Raise electricity prices by 36 percent for households and 60 percent for industry; 2) Cut national income (GDP) by $5.2 trillion between 2012 and 2035; 3) Cut national income by $2,400 per year for a family of four; 4) Reduce employment by more than 1,000,000 jobs; and 5) Add more than $10,000 to a family of four’s share of the national debt by 2035.

The CDA report concludes: “Electric power is one of the most critical inputs to a modern economy. Thus, it is no surprise that forcing the cost of electricity to rise dampens economic activity. The cost increase for electricity can be viewed as a particularly damaging energy tax, because a renewable mandate, unlike the case of a normal tax, provides no revenue to at least partially offset the higher cost. By way of comparison, the highway use tax on gasoline raises the price of gasoline, but it also generates revenues for building and maintaining roads and bridges. On the other hand, a renewable energy standard raises costs in the form of less efficient production, which provides no economic benefit.”

    Quick Hits:

    • Following last weeks announcement that Freddie Mac lost $6.7 billion in the first quarter of 2010 and needed another $10.6 billion in bailout cash from taxpayers, Fannie Mae announced yesterday that it has lost $11.5 billion so far this year and needs a fresh $8.4 billion taxpayer bailout.
    • Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), Richard Shelby (R-AL) and Judd Gregg (R-NH) introduced an amendment to the Dodd financial regulation bill that requires Fannie and Freddie to begin paying state and local sales taxes like their private sector competitors, and calls for the government to end its control of the companies within two years.
    • President Obama plans to instruct federal agencies to hire government workers faster so the government can better compete with the private sector for top talent.
    • Families who add their 26 year-old children to their insurance plans under Obamacare will see their premiums rise as a result.
    • Today at 3:30 pm former Attorney General Ed Meese will join Heritage Foundation colleague Robert Alt for a special online town hall to discuss Elena Kagan’s Supreme Court Nomination.

Had never heard the word until now— Type it into Google and start reading. Pretty interesting. Note that Muslims and certain other religions are exempt from the Obamacare penalties and it is supported by law. We are surrendering from within! The boy is leading us right down the path to total control!*

      Word of the Day: Dhimmitude

Dhimmitude is the Muslim system of controlling non-Muslim populations conquered through jihad. Specifically, it is the TAXING of non-Muslims in exchange for tolerating their presence AND as a coercive means of converting conquered remnants to Islam.

The ObamaCare bill is the establishment of Dhimmitude and Sharia Muslim diktat in the United States . Muslims are specifically exempted from the government mandate to purchase insurance, and also from the penalty tax for being uninsured. Islam considers insurance to be "gambling", "risk-taking" and "usury" and is thus banned. Muslims are specifically granted exemption based on this. How convenient. So I, Ann Barnhardt, a Christian, will have crippling IRS liens placed against all of my assets, including real estate, cattle, and even accounts receivables, and will face hard prison time because I refuse to buy insurance or pay the penalty tax. Meanwhile, Louis Farrakhan will have no such penalty and will have 100% of his health needs paid for by the de facto government insurance. Non-Muslims will be paying a tax to subsidize Muslims. Period. This is Dhimmitude.

Dhimmitude serves two purposes: it enriches the Muslim masters AND serves to drive conversions to Islam. In this case, the incentive to convert to Islam will be taken up by those in the inner-cities as well as the godless Generation X, Y and Z types who have no moral anchor. If you don't believe in Christ to begin with, it is no problem whatsoever to sell Him for 30 pieces of silver. "Sure, I'll be a Muslim if it means free health insurance and no taxes. Where do I sign, bro?"

I recommend sending this post to your contacts. This is desperately important and people need to know about it – quickly.

I checked out this article on Snopes…see what you think.

    2. Blair, Franconia, NH says:

Higher energy taxes are a con. They're just there to pay for another con—–renewable energy standards. Why not give the electric utilities an incentive for renewable energy in the form of tax credits? Give the same incentives to the oil industry too. No wait. Forget the whole thing. It sounds too much like common sense.

We can't have common sense anymore because Obama outlawed it. We have to check with the unions and ACORN first before we can do anything that smacks of common sense. GIVE ME A BREAK!

    3. Aman says:

Excellent commentary. We have a massive SURPLUS of power in this country. We don't need any more, especially high cost power. Renewables do nothing for oil imports which is a transportation issue.

    4. Whicket Williams Kin says:

The united states of America is going to be one of the wost places to live in the world like the old soviet union was because of the stupidity and apathy of it's citizens, allowing themselves to be dominated by these career politicians and their masters. Ev en at this last Date, the majority sleeps

    5. John F. Tait, Indian says:

Any change in energy supply shoult beat least cost neutral beforeis is mandated

    6. Warren Lyckman Hills says:

I'll take my electricity ffrom (1) neucueler fired plant (2) River damn (3) natural gas and coal fired generation plant and you can keep your unreliable windmill generation, bio-mass generation. and wave action. Thankyou

    7. Robert Kalb, Sylvani says:

We already have this law in Ohio (Senate Bill 221); requires increasing percentage of generation from renewable sources and demand reduction. Public is not aware of the cost that will be passed on to them in the coming years.

    8. Fox Hunter, Californ says:

It is estimated that to acheive 20% of windmill produced electricitywouks require about 260,000 more windmills! A real boon for administration partner GE.

    9. yvonne wittig Larned says:

It is unbelieveable with all the information that has come to light about the fraud in the "Scientific Research" that congress is still pushing the need for renewables, that we know can not exist with out a whole lot of subdizes from the government, which is money from us. Yes we need to clean up the environment but we need to do it with some common sense, which the Government lacks.Global Warming oh my mistake Climate Change is nothing but a money making scheme being pushed by the left and environmentalists to control our lives and drain us dry of all our money so they can give it to whom they desire. It is time for America to wake up to his hoax being perpertrated on the uniformed and give the elite the warm fuzzy feeling of saving "Mother Earth".

    10. Barry S says:

It just never stops. The eco-nazis want to jam renewable energy down our throats, but they are not the ones who must pay for it. The only way wind power can exist is with government (i.e., "taxpayer") subsidies. In other words, the scam would implode without our being forced to be stripped of even more of our earnings?

    11. Don Harper says:

We have put our economy in the hands of political and environmental ideologues

who are either truely economic morons or intent on deliberately destroying the United States. Whichever you believe, it proves without any doubt that elections have consequences. Vote them out!

    12. Ken Jarvis says:

HF failed, as they usually do, to report the

      WHOLE Story.

They forgot to report it was Ending Regulation

that caused Electricity to Cost MORE.

      When rates went UP,

      the consumers Complained,

so the Power Companies cut the electricity OFF,

and blamed it on a Brown out.

The result was that people changed –

I don't care what elec cost, but I MUST HAVE IT.

      Wonderful. Politicians barely

      qualified to decide "what's for

    14. Sue From Detroit says:

This new tax is nothing but thief from the average citizen. The Al Gores and the rest from the Janyce Fund will make millions while the rest of us are thrown into the 1800th century.

    15. nancy, MS says:

We don't have time to vote these characters out of office, before they totally ruin each indivdual and the entire nation. So, where do we go from here? Where we should have gone in the first place….on our knees with heads bowed, asking for Divine guidance. Let's not wait until it is too late.

    16. Lloyd Scallan - New says:

A recent study shows that for "wind" to produce just 20% of our energy needs,

a "wind farm" containing 186,000 wind turbines would have be be in use, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. What happens when the wind don't blow? What happens when a hurricane damages or destroys the turbines? What about the

infrastructure to get the power from the turbines to the consumers? We all must understand it's not about engery. It's about Crap and Tax. It's about the money

Al Gore, Obama, and other in this closed circel will make if C&T passes, through companies like the Chicago Carbon Exchange.

    17. disgusted in NC says:

The feds have realized that the internet has given taxpayers a means of organizing and fighting back effectively. But Obama has realized that if he totally destroys the economy and makes the government our tyrant master, we'll all be too broke to attend Tea Parties, and too busy to be a problem, just trying to stay out of jail and put food on the table. Obama has also realized that there is no way he or the democratic party will win in November except to legalize illegal aliens and encourage massive immigration. Therefore Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and the dems are ignoring the outraged public completely and attacking on all fronts at once. Deliberately destructive legislation is being introduced in so many areas at once that even with the internet we can't stop it. They are firing so many bullets that enough of them are getting through, and we are dead. In other words, America no longer exists. Given the dem majority and a few RINOs, short of a miracle straight from God, the destroyers have already won.

Quote: "We remind everyone that The Heritage Foundation promotes a civil society where ideas and debate flourish." It's too late for that, and here's why:

America's controllers (Obama and the dems) have a "mens rea" (guilty mind). They are OUTLAWS, and therefore legal solutions will not stop them. The rest of us are still relying on the rule of law. But both sides must accept the rule of law, or it won't work. The dems have the votes to give the appearance of legality to the ILLEGAL legislation they "deem" passed. The republicans hate the conservatives and libertarians because the repubs want to retain their power (wake up, guys – you've lost it) and money. So the repubs attack the conservatives and libertarians, and thereby lose the last hope of saving what's left of America, while the dems celebrate. What the heck, it wasn't much of a hope anyway.

Ann Coulter says that if dems had any brains, they'd be repubs. If repubs had any brains, we wouldn't have gotten into this mess in the first place.

If anyone sees a solution, I sure would love to hear it. I suggest that all Christians start praying for that miracle, because without God's imminent and miraculous intervention, Team Obama will very soon be packing us civil ones off to re-education camps or death counseling.

And I'll bet the "civility" of the Heritage Foundation will result in this comment being blocked or edited beyond recognition.

    19. Dave, Provo, UT says:

My neighbor, a true green heart, built his home to run on solar power but after five years is still trying to find a system that will break even cost wise in ten years. The most effective experiment I know of is one by the L.D.S. Church which has chosen four different locations in the the US to test the effectiveness of operating using large solar panels on the roofs of their chapels. They are going to run the experiment for at least five years before any large scale commitment. What we need are more of these experiments lasting at least five years before we jump into the unknown circus of cost and effectiveness.

    20. Clovis Gentilihomme, says:

I believe if every high school & college student, along w the American Public & Congress read `Not Yours to Give' at the following link, we just might find a swing in the in the `reasoning' of how our political reps are elected & how they conduct business! Knowledge is power!!

    21. Joseph Pantes, Insid says:

Drill baby, drill. I pity the idiots here who will still be alive when the oil wars start. Yo, dum-dums, we are going to run out of oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And coal, and natural gas. So wake up and face the truth.

    22. Elaine Worth, Oakwoo says:

I read somewhere the other day that the cost of just one of these wind turbines would never pay for itself before it has to be replaced. Do you or anyone knows if this is true? We cannot use them in Georgia, so thank goodness they cannot be forced on us here. But is it not ironic that Ted Kennedy was totally against them in view of his home or in that area where they all lived? But now that he has passed away they are trying to put them there. I wonder when the Kennedy's are going to wake up to the fact that Obama just used him to help him get elected & help him get a health care bill through. I, also, wonder if he had all his faculties, which I know is something a lot do not want to hear, when he was writing this so called health care bill that really ended up being a tax bill. Was he aware that we would be paying for 10 years on this bill to receive the services for only 6 years. I do not think John & Robert Kennedy would have wanted a bill like this. I, also, know that John (Jack) Kennedy would have never let the Space Travel be stopped & turned over to Russia. Sorry I got off topic of renewable energy. We are suppose to have a freeze on spending but it seems like Lieberman & Kerry have not heard about it since they want to bring back up the cap & trade this Wednesday. If we do away with what we have now, thousands will loose their jobs, & our electricity will skyrocket as Obama put it & I do not know how we are suppose to be able to afford it.

    23. Joseph Pantes, Washi says:

Umm, again, I pity the idiots on here who say drill baby, who will be alive when the oil wars start. We will run out of your favorite fossil fuel, just pick one. Wake up and learn the truth.

    24. Ella Quinn Kinston, says:

Ken Jarvis you seem to never learn. Maybe your electricity will go up triple.

    25. Ella Quinn, Kinston, says:

Ken you still have not learned what they are in washington. Low down people who do not care about us.

    26. Ben C. Ann Arbor, MI says:

Ken Jarvis brings up a good point. Industry tends to respond to government intervention in a way that gets the point across. Remember the gas lines in the seventies after Congress implimented a windfall profits tax on the oil industry? The oil industry then went to the middle east to buy oil rather than drill at home. We know the rest of the story. What Congress has never learned is that the captains of industry are way smarter than most in Congress and will figure out ways to survive despite well intentioned legislation. Their response then results in unintended consequences – such as the most recent housing meltdown. For my money most in Congress are dumb as a box of rocks and until replaced we will have more of the same. Respectfully………

    27. Conan, Kentucky says:

I am increasingly flumoxed by what the Mining Unions are telling their members …. surely they are not supporting a regime that seems to hate the very source of their livelyhood.

How can Unions support a Socialist Democratic Party (SDP) formerly known as Democratic?

    28. BOB DEBIASE , MARINA says:

My gut feeling is that Wind Power and Solar Power are cheaper forms of electricity , but your comments say just the opposite. What is the comparative cost of different forms of electricity , if there is such data available. In the Southwestern US , solar power seems to be a winner as I see it. Tell me why I am wrong

    29. Leonard Dobbert says:

Who ever thought up this new energy tax, should be pulled out of office, and stuck in the unimployment line, to get a taste of what the american people are going through. How in the world do they think they are going to get away with this? We still need to overhaul congress. How come we don't?

    30. Julia Fromkin, Leesb says:

It seems our illustrious government is determined to kill business and make us a second class country rather than the best place in the world.

We definitely need to have a major shake up in Congress this year and an even bigger one in 2012, or there won't be much of a country left for our children and grandchildren.

    31. Leonard Dobbert says:

It seems to me the news media only prints one side, and not the other. What I mean by the other, is that they don't print how the american people feel, because they are scared of retaliation. Right or wrong?

    32. bigdave ocala fl says:

Money is ALWAYS behind any change such as GREEN ENERGY, Global Warming, etc. Notice the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS the INSANE AL GORE has made off the MOTHER OF ALL HOAXES?! DUH!! Whip up the emotions of the braindead and laugh all the way to the bank!! Oil, natural gas and coal are the MOST ABUNDANT, EASIEST TO OBTAIN and THE MOST EFFICIENT SOURCES OF ENERGY ON THE PLANET!! Anything else is COSTLY and INEFFECTIVE. END OF STORY! Now lets drill wisely and use wisely and not under some idiotic socialist policies either. Energy fuels the engine of America and so far we have are starved for fuel, the engine is stalled and the job losses are in the MILLIONS because of it. Just let these socialists continue to GIVE AWAY our country people. Your time is running out! The inmates who run the asylum will learn nothing from Greece and the rest of failed EUROPE! Why use OUR money to bail out these socialists?! And WE should be more like THEM?! Do you all belong to the JIM JONES gang ready to drink poison?!

Then you have the geniuses in Olympia, WA who claim that running river water is NOT a renewable resource.

Remember in November. The time has come to take back our Constitution.

      Pops

    35. Al Weed, Lovingston, says:

Higher rates may result from renewables, but will also result from fossil fuel usage, especially if a carbon tax is enacted. Why should we support a monopoly by subsidized industries — coal and Nuclear — and not encourage the development of renewable alternatives? Biomass power, especially, is a local form of producing affordable energy that creates jobs, cleans up water sheds and keeps farming profitable. If 25% of Virginia's electricity were to come from biomass offsetting coal it would cost (at a comparison of $MMBTU) consumers about 6 cents more per month for electricity, even less if energy producers can capture the thermal energy lost in coal-fired production and use it for heating and cooling (CHP).

"Renewable energy" is not just wind and solar.

    36. laurie, hawaii says:

Plain and simple, the corruptocrats in power are one by one (like other countries that fell to this serfdom) is destroying our individual liberties and economy……to serve the global presidentail king while making slaves of us citizens. If we don’t stop this, it will be too late and we are at the mercy of a maniac as we have seen before with other power maniacs taking over Rome, Germany, Russia, and many other communist countries. We must stop them NOW.

    37. laurie, hawaii says:

They are making themselves power kings while destroying our freedoms and economy and placing us into a slave state, as has been done before in other countries. It must be stopped before we go over the cliff NOW.

    38. Tom Berquist, Pennsy says:

I wrote a letter to the Editor in July of last year. These idiots just don't care…they just see more dollars to the federal government coffers. I think a few others would make a bundle too…wonder how Al Gore likes his new 9million dollar house? Obama, Soros and others have a real gig going here..Beck calls it Crime Inc. If you have heard about it you should …not a pretty picture.

      July 2, 2009

      To: Letter to Editor

In addition to all the out of control spending taking place in Washington D.C. two bills could change the face of America forever. They are the Cap and Trade and Health Care Bill. I will discuss the Cap and Trade bill now and follow with comments on the Health Care bill under different cover.

I am a retired Engineer and I just wanted to enjoy my retirement but the shear dangerous

direction this government is taking America has forced me to write e-mails to my representatives. I have never been politically active in over forty years, other than voting but now the very survival of this nation is at stake and I won’t go quietly. I know Robert Casey Jr. and Arlen Specter cater and direct their policies toward the welfare votes in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Anything between those two cities is simply an annoyance.

H.R. 2454, Cap & Trade passed the house. Representative Tim Holden voted against this bill. The bill now goes to the Senate where Senator Specter, as a Republican, said he was going to vote against it and Senator Casey Jr. seems to go with the Obama administration on all issues.

This bill is 1300 pages long. It would require energy companies to buy vouchers if carbon emissions are above a certain level. Companies would pass this cost on to consumers and result in the largest tax increase in the history of man kind. Costs for everything that uses energy will go up. Your home heating bill could increase by as much as 50%. Just one item in this bill allows Federal government representatives to come into your home, if you plan to sell and do an environmental audit. If the results do not meet their specifications, yet to be determined, the home owner would be required to make those improvements before they could sell their own home. That could amount to tens of thousands of dollars. The bill would force companies to move to a more environmentally favorable country. This and increased costs via vouchers would cost over two million jobs each year for years. The countries coal industry would be gone. Spain tried this approach and lost 2.2 jobs for every green job created.

Over seven hundred scientists have said global warming is a non-issue. A scientist, in the Environmental Protection Agency, wrote a report that said basically the same. The report stated the average world temperatures are about the same as they were in the mid twentieth century and that the average temperature has actually been going down the past eleven years. What happened to this report? The head of the EPA told the Scientist to suppress the report because it would cause political problems for this bill and not to discuss it with anyone outside the EPA.

What does all this mean? What it means is the Federal Government wants to further control our everyday lives and this time they’re doing it in the name of Carbon Emissions. Wind Mills and Solar Panels may support 20% of this economies power requirements in perhaps 15 to 20 years but this bill does not address current requirements

Absolutely nothing is mentioned about nuclear power. We need to contact our representatives and tell them to vote NO for this bill in any form.

They need to introduce a bill to streamline permit requests for nuclear power plants, encourage clean coal technology, increase natural gas production and issue permits to drill on and off shore for oil. This will provide us with clean power and permanent jobs. The French supply 85% of their power from nuclear power and don’t have carbon emission issues even if it really was an issue. The Obama administration is after additional taxes and control over our lives. They want to take this bill to the international Kyoto meeting and say look what we have. China and India will laugh at us and will not participate. Obama wants economic and environmental laws dictated to the United States by international bodies.

    39. bigdave ocala fl says:

One windmill costs $2,000,000, produces a small amount of electricity which can not be stored and it replaces 4 barrels of oil per day in energy consumption. And we have not even mentioned the cost of maintenence and the killing of thousands of birds! At $70 per barrel it will take almost TWENTY(20) years to PAY FOR ONE WINDMILL!!! LIBERAL BRILLIANCE(?) at work.

    40. Craig, Sacramento, C says:

If our politicians had as much as one functioning brain cell, they would be pushing a program to build Nuclear Power plants! All of this business of renewable energy are far fetched "pie in the sky" schemes. Also another good idea, drill for oil in the rocky mountain states plus the Dakotas where there are huge reserves of oil. Don't the dummies and greenies realize that this would be the path away from dependency on OPEC to say nothing of the fact that Nuclear is non polluting and would also allow us to switch to clean abundant natural gas to run our transportation as opposed to using huge amounts of clean burning natural gas to fire power plants? Will Washington never wake up, perhaps it will when we wake up and do a wholesale dumping of the Democrats who are leaving a wide path of destruction!

    41. Russ Errett Sebring says:

?Before the congress is seated, they take an oath to uphold the constitution. This is like a doctor taking an oath to do no harm. How much harm does congress do when they over spend, over tax, and over borrow to run up a massive dept. Does this do anything for the general welfare. The supreme court has already thumbed their noise at the taking clause. Socialism demands a big government and the bigger the government sooner we fall into tyranny.

    42. Don Harper, Lubbock, says:

California levelized energy costs for different generation technologies (2007) Technology Cost (USD/MWh)

      Advanced Nuclear 67

      Coal 74-88

      Gas 313-346

      Geothermal 67

      Hydro power 48-86

      Wind power 60

      Solar 116-312

      Biomass 47-117

      Fuel Cell 86-111

      Wave Power 611

Note that the above figures incorporate tax breaks for the various forms of power plants. Subsidies range from 0% (for Coal) to 14% (for nuclear) to over 100% (for solar). This info is from the following link:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relative_cost_of_ele

    43. Mike Sheahen, Hickor says:

Yet again, in "Renewable Energy Standards", the freedoms, resources, security, and Constitution for limited government of "We, the People of the United States, are being assaulted and subverted by Statists through yet another of their government power growing schemes which, as always throughout history to this day, end-up showing and proving how such schemes as theirs have practically nothing to do with "the environment", "fairness" or "equality under the law", and promoting (private, non-government) job creationg, but instead have everything to do with yet another grab to grow the power of government at the expense of the people, our freedoms, resources, security, and, yes, consequently also the environment.

    45. Southern Illinois says:

One problem about the windmills that no one talks about is that they last only for 25 years if lucky. Then the piece of metal just sits and decorates the area. What happens if there is no wind, another problem. There always needs to be the source of electric power to give us light or we will just be dark. Electric companies have to be ready whenever the demand commands for more electric. What really is the biggest problem. THE GLOBAL WARMING IS REALLY NOT A TRUE SCIENCE.

    46. Judith in Michigan says:

In addition to the increased costs to citizens to be created by this pending energy legislation, Senators Kerry & Liberman are scheduled to introduce the new & improved Cap & (Trade) Tax bill tomorrow. This involves a major tax increase on transportation fuels, among other things. Not to be confused with the current Fed Excise tax on fuels. This is " IN ADDITION to…"

The CBO suggests this legislation will cost millions of jobs besides costing American families thousands.of dollars. On the other hand, Isn't it wonderful that Algore can now afford a $9 Million dollar ocean-view cottage in California, (besides his Tenn estate) and will probably become even wealthier due to profits from his involved business interests.

And piled on top of this is the news that we are now bailing out Greece with our tax dollars. If anyone one has any money left, prepare to say goodbye to it. We are being fleeced.

Anyone ready for a revolt? Remember November 2nd is right around the corner.

It should have suggested something when Pitkins (name?) withdrew his proposal to wean us off gasoline by moving transportation to natural gas and replacing the natural gas generating power with wind and solar power. The problem was that gas, heading toward $5 a gal, dropped back down. This is another area where the States will need to stand up and reject federal mandates that will push our cost of power generation too high for no other reason or economical gain than for ideology. Now that the dems have played their hand as to what they want in health care, power generation, card check, etc. hopefully the people will throw them out staring in 2010. Hopefully they will go beyond that and demand that the federal government cut way back to what the constitution calls for and hae the States take the country back. The closer to home, the better when it comes to trading off economical and social issues.

Big Government does not even begin to describe the problem any more. We have allowed our politicians to expend all the money in the bank and then run up the credit cards. Your vote will count in 2010. The voting tax paying citizen can put a halt to men who only live to tax and be re-elected. It's simple, just pull the right lever in November.

Article below from Canada Free Press

Good news to know that the truth will always out—even when you’re Barack Obama.

“Obama Years Ago Helped Fund Carbon Program He Is Now Pushing Through Congress” is a FOXNews story by Ed Barnes. In short, “While on the board of a Chicago-based charity, Barack Obama helped fund a carbon trading exchange that will likely play a critical role in the cap-and-trade carbon reduction program he is now trying to push through Congress as president.”

The charity was the Joyce Foundation on whose board of directors Obama served and which gave nearly $1.1 million in two separate grants that were “instrumental in developing and launching the privately-owned Chicago Climate Exchange, which now calls itself “North America’s only cap and trade system for all six greenhouse gases, with global affiliates and projects worldwide.”

And that’s only the beginning of this tawdry tale, Mr. Barnes.

The “privately-owned” Chicago Climate Exchange(recently sold-now a global company) is heavily influenced by Obama cohorts Al Gore and Maurice Strong.

For years now Strong and Gore have been cashing in on that lucrative cottage industry known as man-made global warming.

Strong is on the board of directors of the Chicago Climate Exchange, Wikipedia-described as “the world’s first and North America’s only legally binding greenhouse gas emission registry reduction system for emission sources and offset projects in North America and Brazil.”

Gore, self-proclaimed Patron Saint of the Environment, buys his carbon off-sets from himself—the Generation Investment Management LLP, “an independent, private, owner-managed partnership established in 2004 with offices in London and Washington, D.C., of which he is both chairman and founding partner. The Generation Investment Management business has considerable influence over the major carbon credit trading firms that currently exist, including the Chicago Climate Exchange.

Strong, the silent partner, is a man whose name often draws a blank on the Washington cocktail circuit. Even though a former Secretary General of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (the much hyped Rio Earth Summit) and Under-Secretary General of the United Nations in the days of an Oil-for-Food beleaguered Kofi Annan, the Canadian born Strong is little known in the United States. That’s because he spends most of his time in China where he he has been working to make the communist country the world’s next superpower. The nondescript Strong, nonetheless is the big cheese in the underworld of climate change and is one of the main architects of the failing Kyoto Protocol.

Full credit for the expose on the business partnership of Strong and Gore in the cap-and-trade reduction scheme should go to the investigative acumen of the Executive Intelligence Review (EIR).

The tawdry tale of the top two global warming gurus in the business world goes all the way back to Earth Day, April 17, 1995 when the future author of “An Inconvenient Truth” travelled to Fall River, Massachusetts, to deliver a green sermon at the headquarters of Molten Metal Technology Inc. (MMTI). MMTI was a firm that proclaimed to have invented a process for recycling metals from waste. Gore praised the Molten Metal firm as a pioneer in the kind of innovative technology that can save the environment, and make money for investors at the same time.

“Gore left a few facts out of his speech that day,” wrote EIR. “First, the firm was run by Strong and a group of Gore intimates, including Peter Knight, the firm’s registered lobbyist, and Gore’s former top Senate aide.”

(Fast-forward to the present day and ask yourself why it is that every time someone picks up another Senate rock, another serpent comes slithering out).

“Second, the company had received more than $25 million in U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) research and development grants, but had failed to prove that the technology worked on a commercial scale. The company would go on to receive another $8 million in federal taxpayers’ cash, at that point, its only source of revenue.

“With Al Gore’s Earth Day as a Wall Street calling card, Molten Metal’s stock value soared to $35 a share, a range it maintained through October 1996. But along the way, DOE scientists had balked at further funding. When in March 1996, corporate officers concluded that the federal cash cow was about to run dry, they took action: Between that date and October 1996, seven corporate officers—including Maurice strong—sold off $15.3 million in personal shares in the company, at top market value. On Oct. 20, 1996—a Sunday—the company issued a press release, announcing for the first time, that DOE funding would be vastly scaled back, and reported the bad news on a conference call with stockbrokers.

“On Monday, the stock plunged by 49%, soon landing at $5 a share. By early 1997, furious stockholders had filed a class action suit against the company and its directors. Ironically, one of the class action lawyers had tangled with Maurice strong in another insider trading case, involving a Swiss company called AZL Resources, chaired by Strong, who was also a lead shareholder. The AZL case closely mirrored Molten Metal, and in the end, Strong and the other AZL partners agreed to pay $5 million to dodge a jury verdict, when eyewitness evidence surfaced of Strong’s role in scamming the value of the company stock up into the stratosphere, before selling it off.

In 1997, Strong went on to accept from Tongsun Park, who was found guilty of illegally acting as an Iraqi agent, $1 million from Saddam Hussein, which was invested in Cordex Petroleum Inc., a company he owned with his son, Fred.

These are the leaders in the Man-made Global Warming Movement, who three years later were to be funded by the man who was to become President of the United States of America.

If we follow the time line on where Obama was during the funding of the Chicago Climate Exchange, he was still a lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School teaching constitutional law, with his law license becoming inactive a year later in 2002.

It may be interesting to note that the Chicago Climate Exchange in spite of its hype, is a veritable rat’s nest of cronyism. The largest shareholder in the Exchange is Goldman Sachs. Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley is its honorary chairman, The Joyce Foundation, (Obama was on the board) which funded the Exchange also funded money for John Ayers’ Chicago School Initiatives. John is the brother of William Ayers(domestic (Communist)terrorist involved in attempting to blow up public buildings in 1969).

What a flap when it was discovered that the senator from Chicago had nursed on Saul Alinsky’s milk, had his political career launched at a coffee party held by domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, and sat for 20 years, uncomplaining in front of the “God-dam-America pulpit of resentment-challenged Jeremiah Wright.

Folk were naturally outraged that the empty suit who would go on to become TOTUS was spawned from such anti-American activism.

But the media should have been hollering, “Stop Thief!” instead.

The same Chicago Climate Exchange promoting public rip-off was funded by Obama before he was POTUS.

Even as man-made global warming is being exposed as a money-generating hoax, Obama is working feverishly to push the controversial cap-and-trade carbon reduction scheme through Congress.

Obama was never the character he created for himself in the fairy-tale version in “Dreams of My Father”. He’s the agent of Change and Hope for cohorts making money down at the Chicago Climate Exchange.

The Barbarians are pushing at the gate of the Global Warming fraud, and to borrow a line from children playing Hide and Seek, Here they come, ready or not!

Admittedly, it is not an immediate solution, but one that is being successfully used in other parts of the world. What are the real risks and benefits? Please refer me to studies done by the Heritage Foundation on this topic.

Incidently, in 2009, the NRC renewed the licenses for both units at the Plant Vogtle, a 2-unit nuclear power plant in SE Georgia, for an additional 20 years.

Are there any other such plants in the US which are producing electricity?…and which can be expanded?
