  • A Tragedy That Will Touch the Heart of Many Americans

The death this morning of Polish president Lech Kaczynski and First Lady Kaczynska is a tragedy that will touch the heart of many Americans. President Kaczynski was a Polish patriot of the first order, whose life exemplifies the meaning of courage, sacrifice and commitment to his family, his country and the Polish people.

From his early days in the legendary Solidarity movement, President Kaczynski fought for the independence, sovereignty and self-determination of his country. And in the two decades since the fall of the Soviet Union, President Kaczynski has been at the forefront of his country’s transition from an impoverished and Soviet-dependent economy, to a bright and vibrant regional leader. Poland is now a key member of NATO and a serious player within the European Union. As Commander-in-Chief, President Kaczynski has also overseen deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan where Polish troops serve bravely alongside American and British servicemen and women in defense of liberty and freedom.

America is home to a large Polish Diaspora, who will feel President Kaczynski’s passing keenly. There were few others who worked as hard as he to maintain the Polish-American relationship, which President Kaczynski saw as integral to the future of his country. Tributes are pouring in from across the world, including a touching remembrance from The Prince of Wales who made a royal visit to Poland last month as guest of the President and First Lady. Americans will be looking to President Obama to strike an equally appropriate tone as Americans join with the world in mourning the passing of a Polish hero and patriot.

I well remember when he was fighting for his country. I thought they would kill him before he got his mission done. Now if the people of Poland will just not let the thugs take over their country, they will be fine. However, there is always someone waiting in the wings for a take over. I wish the people of Poland well.

      Isn't it curious…..

Am I recalling this with accuracy? Russia made America withdraw the missile protection for that area of the World – just a few months ago !!!

Also, every article is saying it was Pilot Error, due to FOG.

What happened to the Tower employees (flight controllers), whose job it is to guide planes to the run way – for landing.. . . (especially in FOG), and especially because there were foreign dignitaries on board !!!

We are praying with and for the people of Poland. This is a tragedy of immense proportions. We are all stunned at this tragedy. May God be with you

Obama pulled missile defense system from Poland; Obama signed bogus nuke arms reduction treaty with Russia; Obama is bending over and spreading his cheeks for Russia and to hell with our beloved allies. The world knows Obama is weak and incompetant. Conspiracy? Collusion? God only knows, but, I wouldn't be surprised by anything from Statists. Poland must stand firm and continue to fight for freedom and liberty. My prayers and support are for the Polish people. God bless. Be strong and resolute.

    8. Char, Readfield says:

My sympathies are with the Polish people. The U. S. and Poland have been friends for many years and we feel your loss deeply.

God Bless this family and this nation.

When you consider what Poland has gone throught through its long history, it's a miracle the country still exists. Poland will get through this. Prayers to Poland and its people!

    11. Sara, Idaho says:

This is a brutal, shocking event. So many important folks wiped out in a flash. It is very hard to comprehend.

That said, can someone explain as to why were all these important people in one plane? It baffles common sense. May God be with you.

    12. Curious, PriesRiver, says:

      I agree with KELLI2L .

This whole scenario is a bit too pat. Will there be an investigation into the communication (or lack of) with the Air Traffic Control Tower? Will the results be made public? Who has the most to gain from this man's death? And what will become of Poland in Kaczynski's absence?

    13. mary ann amato, barn says:

Why do I have an unsettling feeling about how this could possibly happen? How convenient it is to have erased so many conservatives at the top? How very coincidental! ???? Don't let this story die, let's follow to the end.

    15. frank, Ohio says:

I agree with KELLI2L above. The controll tower should have guided that plane down safely. This is a very unusual disaster. The black box should be given to a neutral country before it is opened to find out the truth from the pilot's recording.

    16. Rebecca J. says:

I am deeply sad to learn of his death. He will be very difficult to be replaced. The important issue is protection of Poland and its people. Too many times Poland has been invaded and abused. We care.

    17. Byron, Pa says:

If he contributed to the ongoing illegal, murderous invasion of Iraq & Afghanistan based on the 9-11 lie ( http://www.911truth.org) , he received his just reward. Amen.
