AT&T announces billion dollar health care costs

If you are tired of our nation’s year-long health care debate and you were hoping that the passage of President Barack Obama’s health care bill would settle anything, then Politico has some bad news for you: the real fight is just getting started. Starting today, a coalition of leftist groups will sink millions of dollars into television advertising and astroturf events selling the plan to the American people. But as a Washington Post poll conducted after passage last week shows, the Obama administration and their leftist allies face a steep climb.

The top line numbers are bad but not daunting for the pro-Obamacare forces: 50% of Americans oppose the changes in the new law while 46% support them. But the numbers also show that most Americans believe the new law will cause “the overall health care system in this country” to get worse, “the quality of the health care you receive” to get worse, and “your health insurance coverage” to get worse. The poll also shows that most Americans believe the law will weaken Medicare and that there is “too much government involvement in the nation’s health care system.” And strong majorities of Americans believe Obamacare will increase the federal budget deficit (65%), increase “your health care costs” (55%), and increase “overall costs of health care in this country” (60%). The American people are right on all counts. And if the events of last week are any indication, these beliefs will only harden over time.

Pitching his failed stimulus plan back in February of last year, President Obama told a factory in East Peoria, Illinois, “So what’s happening at this company tells us a larger story about what’s happening with our nation’s economy, because, in many ways, you can measure America’s bottom line by looking at Caterpillar’s bottom line.” well, Caterpillar was quick to inform the markets exactly what Obamacare meant for its bottom line. Caterpillar announced that Obamacare would raise its insurance costs by at least 20 percent – or more than $100 million – just in the first year of the health-care overhaul program. And Caterpillar was not alone. Other Fortune 500 firms quickly followed suit announcing Obamacare hits to their bottom line including: Deere & Co., $150 million; AK Steel, $31 million; 3M, $90 million; Valero Energy, $20 million; and AT&T, $1 billion. The consulting firm Towers Watson tells the Wall Street Journal that the total hit this year will reach nearly $14 billion. America’s employers simply can’t sustain losses like these, so many of these companies, including Verizon, have informed their employees to expect significant changes to their current health care benefits.

The leftist majorities in Congress were incensed that America’s employers would dare warn their investors about the costs of Obamacare at the same time as the Obama administration’s national sales pitch was set to begin. So using the full force of the federal government to bully and harass America’s job creators, House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) sent letters to the CEOs of Deere, Caterpillar, Verizon, and AT&T demanding all documents “from January 1, 2009, through the present” regarding “any analyses related to the projected impact of health care reform” and “any documents, including e-mail messages, sent to or prepared or reviewed by senior company officials related to the projected impact of health care reform.” Waxman intends to haul these CEOs in front of the Subcommitte on Oversight and Investigations, which just happens to be chaired by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI), for a hearing April 21st.

While it is unfortunate that the left in Congress believes our nation’s business leaders’ time is best spent being browbeaten by congressmen for not doing more to support their policy preferences, the American public should look forward to these hearings. The more information the American public is given about Obamacare, the more they will oppose it. The more they oppose it, the easier it will be to repeal it. We have a long road ahead of us, but eventually the Obamacare nightmare will end.

If Ombamacare is supposed to help me why then do I feel so sick!

    2. Jill, California says:

Did the CBO score the cost of "television advertising and astroturf events selling the plan to the American people"?

Did the CBO score the cost of "using the full force of the federal government to bully and harass America’s job creators" who reveal what Obamacare will cost them? Correction … the costs these job creators will pass on to their customers?

Or were these expenses not included in the information presented to the CBO for scoring?

    3. NeoConVet says:

Waxman and the new Socialist Democratic Party (SDC) have been and continue to behave in a THUGISH way. Hopefully we the people will deliver a message in a few months about this behavior.

    4. oscar says:

The Republicans must get ready for the 2012 elections with no room for error.

I suggest an "apple for apple" set up, have the republicans select a rigthous, Constitution at all costs, Africian American man to run as the candid with Sarah as the Vice. Restore the Constitution!!!

    5. Chuck says:

If the American people do not stick together then you might as well say good buy to this Great Land. I for one will not give up. Do not wait till nov , get out there now and back the ones that stand for the God,Family,Country and Constitution. All the rest are worthless. If they say they stand for those four qualitys then ask them questions that will cut them right to there soul. If they get uneasy with the questions then you know its lip service. Get ready to fight and do not give up. I for one will not vote for any Democrat because they all caved in

    6. stevor says:

This article is essentially telling us that even though they passed the "health care" bill, they CAN'T DO ANYTHING until they convince US that it's good?

That's interesting. IF they actually had passed the income tax law, did they have to convince people it was good before putting it into action?

Is this story REALLY telling us that the plan is not really to get us to accept ObamaCare, but to CONTINUE to either brainwash us or continue with this "fight" to keep our EYES OFF the real ball, which is the world takeover of the economy for a one-world-government?

    7. John Eley says:

Once again the ideological left is unable to reconcile its imagined universe where everyone will their same good will do not fall into line immediately and adopt their fanciful, if not downright fraudulent view of how American business should operate. Clearly they think that they know more that the management of companies that they target ought to run their businesses. The Soviets tried that and are now in the dust bin of history. They tried to impose their will on others and the system collapsed of its own weight. Waxman and others may be gone by the time that happens but Obamaharm may crash sooner than we think.

    8. Ted@ethcpa.copm says:

Great. Give us strategies how to defeat the Democrats and stymie Obama this fall. What will work here? I can make a whole list of bads-financial profiligacy, misrepresentation, damage to the economy. How can an individual be effective?

    9. louis gomes says:

We need representatives in congress to fight for us with a stronger language to hurt the opposition fillings. They can not act like little girls !

    10. E. A. Lira (San Anto says:

Do these CEO'S really have to comply or can they opt out of participating? Did we (not some of us, though) elect him to be President Obama or King Obama? Seems that the One now wants to control all dissent, even the private sector. Won't be too long before he bails out the newspaper industry and transforms them into his private propaganda machine, as if they don't carry his water, already. Thank GOD for news-talk radio and the Internet! But, then Barry was just anointed a little more than 13 months ago (35 more to go)

    11. Cujo47 says:

The first thing we have to do is stop reading and watching the MSM. Without them this clown would never have elected in the first place. And without them he will not stay. DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY SAY.

Don't believe the photo-ops or the articles, just ignore them. PBS, FOX and DRUDGE tell the truth. Please people ignore the rest.

    12. Giles, Winnsboro, TX says:

Thank you Heritage, keep printing supported facts to keep us informed. The stat that 50% oppose the the changes and 46% support the changes is not a stat that means the majority support the government health care takeover. I have not talked to one person that supports this intrusion into our lives much less the "mandate" that we must purchase it according to the government dictates. This is whole year is a culmination of the progressive-liberal movement that has been forcing its advancement in this country for well over 100 years. The President even alluded to that in the health victory speech. Listening to those words proves those with that ideology are determined to move us into a socialistic/quasi-dictatorship as long as it takes, however it takes. We now have several generations of welfare recipients who have never held a job, their mentality is such that the "government" will take care of them, they will side with those that meet their needs whether it bankrupts the country or not. They cannot fathom that the government won't always be there to send them a check, guess the unused buses parked in front of the stadium in New Orleans during Katrina is not enough of an indication that they will be left behind, no check nothing to support them when the government has no funds. We cannot continue to borrow and not pay back, right now we can barely meet the interest payments, nothing is paid on the principle so it is still looming over us. Remember when your check is spent you have to wait until the next one comes, if you don't pay something it takes the next two months to catch up for each bill you don't pay pretty soon you are behind months and your funds will most likely be unable to catch up unless there is some miraculous "stimulus" provided. From an accounting aspect alone this bill and all it entails is devastating to our economy and will literally break the banks of every working citizen for years to come. Even now just to pay the interest w/o the projected costs the bill for each family is $75,000+, how many people have that just laying around as extra funds to bail out the federal government?

    13. Larry----Dixie says:

Knowing what they know, the majority of voters are opposed to Obamacare. The fact is, the public does not really know how bad it is because it is so involved ,(2700) pages and was written in secret. When they learn all the ugly truth about this socialistic mess, a storm of backlash is going to hit the November elections. The fools who voted for Obama must feel like they have put a dagger in the country's back. They are right !

    14. Normca says:

The last time I looked Americans, who include corporations had free speech. However I forgot, we have free speech only when a Republican is in the white house. Then the left can call George Bush the anti Christ or whatever, they can attack Palin's baby and only the dems can say we are "targeting" so and so for defeat in the election. And Waxman, whose nickname is taboo here is the biggest Leftist in house. The dems should keep this assault on freedom up until November so the most people possible will remember who is seeking to take away our rights. We need to send the Waxmans' back to their nests, along with their media buddies.

    15. Mike, McKinney-TX says:

the immediate impact on corporate tax liabilities is driven primarily from benefits provided to retired employees as the new law eliminates tax benefits to corporations who provide medical benefits to these former employees….As such either the company pays this liability in taxes to the Feds, or eliminate the benefits…..which most corporations will be forced to drop the benefits driving additional cost to the retired or the government….nice job Congress

    16. Richard Cancemi says:

There must be some way to stop these liberal socialists in Washington from wrecking America before November! Obama, and the other Progressives are evil ideologues who want Socialism installed as our system of government. This system, along with the Progressives, stinks! Don't be fooled by what the tell you are Truths". They are LIARS!

The current Progressive machine believes that perception creates reality and uses this mechanism to perpetrate "truths" that are not true! And the sycophantic, toadies in the mainstream media are willing pawns used by the Progressive machine to promulgate the "management" of these misleading preceptions.

Everything about the Progressive movement is based on lies (perception management) and non-thinking, non-analyzing people swallow their "messages" and do not realize they have been manipulated until it is too late.

The end-goal of Progressives is the destruction of the American system and way of life which has proven to be the best the world has EVER. Marxist- Socialism fails everywhere because the people lose their individuality and personal freedoms "for the greater good", as the rulers decide. Progressives are seditious traitors! People need to wake up and not let themselves be manipulated by these cunning evildoers. They must be ousted from all public offices.

They will work hard to "manage" what what you are to believe as "truths" between now and November. Do not let them succeed anymore!

    17. Earl, QUEENS, NY says:

What's pathetic is that while this health/hellcare raw deal is opposed by a plurality of over 50% of Americans, it is not yet opposed by a larger landslide majority of 80 to 90%. Most people should ponder – if this raw deal that passed last week is so great, why will Congress exempt itself from the bill they just forced onto us?? Perhaps we’re overlooking a solution to the problem of (mostly democraps) politicians who exempt themselves from national health/hell care, etc. WHAT WE REALLY NEED IS AN AMENDMENT TO OUR CONSTITUTION – which will force all politicians (Federal, state and local levels) to live under the same laws which they impose onto us, the citizens!!!!

BTW – check out these websites: http://www.recallcongressnow.org and http://www.repealitpledge.com

    18. Lloyd Scallan - New says:

If Waxman get his way and drags these CEOs before a Subcommitee and they

can prove, without a doubt, that Obamacare will damage their companies, will that change anything? Not no, but HELL NO! The left will just find other ways to

further distort the true facts, plus does anyone think the left-wing national Obamamedia will report the truth. These socialist and Marxist will stop at nothing to destroy America as we know it. Again, we are at WAR with those that are determined to force this nation into Obama's socialist utopa.

    19. Mark Meyer says:

The announcements relate to a ONE TIME accounting loss that undoes a ONE TIME accounting gain. The gain was created when the Bush Medicare Part D expansion of government health care provided a TAX FREE subsidy to companies. The loss was created when the Obama exansion of government health care made the subsidy TAXABLE.

It is misleading to imply that these losses will occur annually. It is fair to note that the Obama change will discourage private companies from continuing to provide health insurance to their retired employees. And it is true that this is a powerful example of the extent to which taxes must be raised to support the Obama expansion.

    20. Steve Miles says:

This is a mind-bending sentence: The poll also shows that most Americans believe the law will weaken Medicare and that there is “too much government involvement in the nation’s health care system.”

    21. James Michael Tierra says:

i would like to repeal this heath care nightmare but that could take years if not decades. how about using article. 1 section 7 of the our constitution and not fund this bill along with the department of education, energy and the EPA, if we have a majority in the house this Nov. we can strat by just passing spending resolutions for defense only, then social security only, and so on. This will force the senate to fund individual programs or let our country default, which I don't think they would do. Please let me know if this is possible.

      regards James Michael

    22. Anthony Santucci says:

Good Im glad some business and CEO's have the guts to show just how bad this Obama health care will cost not only business but almost every Americian. This 2000+ pages of the health care bill will bankrup americia. Everyone will be forced into this health care except our elite senators and representives who will be exempt from the requirements. Now what does this tell you about this so call wonderful health care bill?

    23. Leon, Durango, CO says:

I wasted twenty minutes because my first post is too quick? I had a wonderful comment that just went down a rabbit hole!

    24. Ken Allison, Tyler says:

Please!!! All the negative data in your report and those like it are irrelevant. I don't care if we have all the money in the world to pay for this program, the issue is freedom. All the whining about debt and socialism are a waste of breath. Our only real protection is the Constitution. It is also the only real issue. So long as the statists can keep us flapping our gums about policy, we'll not be able to focus on principle. We as a population stood by while the Republic's government was gradually taken over by power-hungry, self-serving politicians. They will never vote themselves out of power. If the Republic is to be saved, the responsibility lies with voters who will renounce the idea that SOTUS or the federal government rightfully has the power they currently claim. It will be a painful road but one we must travel.

    25. V.A.Mahan, Indiana says:

So, in addition to the taxes we will incur we will also incur the increased cost of goods and services as well. They wouldn't be world class businesses if they "just" ate the cost of an expense – they will pass it along to the consumer as all businesses will. Dah!

    26. Linda Shiebler, Spri says:

Please let's focus on what we can do- Headlines that tell us a 'mountain ' is rolling down the hill straight at us with no end in sight is a hope killer – we need to stay focused on positive result oriented actions and attitudes to encourage and uplift otherwise despair will set in.

    27. Barbara Frances Delo says:

Are we living in a democracy anymore or is this administration's arogance moving our nation towards autocracy?

    28. Bruce Davey, Evergre says:

One cannot but question Mr. Meyer's ONE TIME ascertain. If it was a one time thing, why is it still in progress? It seems that the ONE TIME is once per year, which is the same as every year, which is the same as me having to pay taxes every year. To use that same logic, one might add that there is only a necessity to pay taxes by the individual ONE TIME. If something wasn't taxable, and now is, it affects the bottom line, and it will continue to do so each year.

    29. Mr. Purple, Californ says:

Steve Miles has it right. Does no one else see the contradiction in:

' The poll also shows that most Americans believe the law will weaken Medicare and that there is “too much government involvement in the nation’s health care system.” '?

If you are honestly in favor of limited government, you should be fighting to repeal Medicare and Social Security just as much as you are fighting to repeal HCR.

But I suspect that far too many of you have followed the example of the Republicans, who speak of limited government from one side of the mouth and suck at the government teat with the other side.

Don't count on "activist (conservative) judges" to save you. Start campaigning to end entitlements for private citizens and corporations now!

    30. jim smith new york says:

What is needed now is an old fashion interdiction of phone calls and e-mails to constipate what no longer passes for our government. If Henry Waxman wants to play "Socialist Nostrils For A Day", let's accomodate him. No longer will he get by on good looks alone. He'll have to answer the phone. Then, our opposition team will announce a phone blitz including a date change and then do it anyway. Unless these bastards and bastardettes can repeal the First Amendment this week, we've got 'em, right there in Pubicland.

    31. Dorothy, Colorado says:

This is the first step! If the republicans don't win some seats to stop him, he will go on and on. Just think, if he is in there for 8 years, he could do a lot of damage to this country, from appointing his radical left wing judges to the supreme court to completely socializing this country. Don't just sit here and blog, get up in November and vote.

    32. Craig J. Klima Balti says:

The government does not have the "Right" to dictate to the American Citizens "They have to buy Health Insurance or be penalized by the IRS to the tune of $ 1225.00 dollars per year" !!!! The constitution protects the Citizens from to much Government control over OUR lives and decisions !!!! This Health Care Bill is Unconstitutional and should be removed before "Big Brother" gets to much control over OUR lives !!! What will be next, taking guns away from the legitimate Citizens so they will have complete control over OUR lives ???!!!

The Health Care Bill Must go A.S.A.P. !!!!!!!

    33. J.C. Hughes, Texas says:

This healthcare monstrosity was misguided from the very start and is destined to get worse. Passage of such an affront to our federalist system ought to be grounds for impeachment. It's an absolute trespass upon states' affairs and individual rights. Obama has succeeded where other socially progressive (socialist) presidents have failed. He's managed to put the final nail in the union's coffin. He's certainly making history, but not as most leftist liberals and media pundits would like to believe.

    34. KC - New Mexico says:

I agree with Earl – WHAT WE REALLY NEED IS AN AMENDMENT TO OUR CONSTITUTION – which will force all politicians (Federal, state and local levels) to live under the same laws which they impose onto us, the citizens!

I really look forward to the November elections – I just hope that most Americans do not forget how the current administration and Congress have deteriorated our country.

Regarding the business CEO's and the requirement to testify in front of the Subcommitte on Oversight and Investigations – they should attend the beginning of the meeting and then walk out. It is not any business of the government to tell them what they can and cannot tell their employees.

    35. Chet Greenwood says:

If the CEO's of Verizon, Caterpillar and AT & T can prove to Waxman and Stupek their increased costs, will Waxman support a repeal of Obamacare? Fat chance!

    36. Jim Reabond says:

These corporations receive these very large tax subsidies each year by simply making a Medicare Part D Plan available to their Medicare eligible retirees.

These tax subsidies are so lucrative to the corporations that they highly promote their plans to their retirees each year, fully knowing that if retirees start comparison shopping that they will quickly figure out that they can get the same identical drug benefits including costs through any of the various outside Medicare Part D providers. And, the outside providers are not eligible for the tax subsidiaries. Or, in other words, these corporations are receiving large tax subsidies for providing absolutely nothing of incremental value to their retirees.

Some call it tax subsidies, others might call it tax fraud.

    37. Jim Reabond, Florida says:

It’s obvious that most of the comments are from folks who don’t really have a clue on how the tax subsidies being paid to these large corporations really works.

The corporations receive these very large tax subsidies each year by simply making a Medicare Part D Plan available to their Medicare eligible retirees. 38. Dennis, Plymouth, MI says:

Obama and the Dems will cause 2 types of protests. A peaceful one and a bloody one! Violating the Constitution and the going against the wishes of the majority will have severe repercussions even if Obama is successful in repealing the 22nd amendment to become "Dictator for Life"!

    39. Bob Veigel, Arlingto says:

Even without Obamacare it was going to be a nightmare. Now it is just a longer and larger nightmare.

    40. Francisco, Bandera, says:

Unfortunately most Americans haven't lived in a country where Universal Medical

Care is a reality. Even in Canada, you have to wait long periods of time, depending on you medical problem, before you see a Doctor. I have lived in

several countries where that is a fact and you can die from your condition before

treatment can be administered. In the USA, on any given day you can walk into

a Doctor's office and receive treatment, almost immediately. The wealthy can still

take a trip out of the country to the several Caribbean islands that will provide

care immediately to them, at the expense of their countrymen. Unfortunately,

not everyone will be able to do that. We'll have to settle with care in MEXICO.

    41. Dave, Provo, UT says:

Did any one else see that after the health care bill was passed that when the Treasury Dept. went out to borrow $ on the world market that no international investors would loan us anything at the 3.27% rate we had been getting? No one! We finally got the loans at 3.72%. Now calculate the increased interest we will have to pay back on the billions we borrowed. Sadly the rate will go higher and higher until we reign in our run-a-way spending.

    42. toledofan says:

Watching this Administration try to govern is like watching a circus of clowns. From TARP to healthcare, it's been one comedy of errors after another and it looks like there is no end in sight; making a surprise visit to Afghanistan doesn't do much especially when it's more about him than the troops. I suppose there are some who think what is going on is ok and good for the country, but, I fear, the unintended consequences of this President and his Administration is going to create a lot of un-necessary heartburn for all of us down the road. Do we know yet where all the TARP money went, how about all of the stimulus money, I though Gitmo was closing in January, I thought that taxes were'nt going to go up for those making less than $250,000, what about Acorn- are they still receiving money and the new appointees, what's the damage they can inflict. How come Holder still hasn't tried the Black Panthers for intimidation at the voting place, how about etc., etc., how come our foreign policy is in a shambles, etc.

    43. Ken Jarvis says:

      This is GOP Logic

      1. HCare should NOT Pass the country can't afford it.

      2. HCare is FREE.

How can they both be true.

    44. L.C.Lawless Eaglevil says:

Fox news said this am the gov is looking into a V.A.T. tax.

    45. tax revolts says:

Waxman is a communist. Is he so stupid and naive so that subsidizing or giving free healthcare to 30 millions people will not cost taxpayers a cent? Hauling these CEOs in for hearings reminds of a page out of the Communist playbook, pitting one citizens and families against each others!

    46. Janice Boone - Mobil says:

When did God die and put the democrats in charge of the universe? By what authority does congress demand documentation from private businesses about how said businesses calculate their losses? Intimidation and bullying are the modus operandi of the liberals because they have no rational leg to stand on.

    47. Pete Kleff, Cypress, says:

The active intimidation of private enterprise to cease telling the truth about "Obamacare" is simply more evidence of the accelerating decline of the majority in Congress and the White House into Fascist tactics. The Republic is in danger.

    48. Don Parks, Toney, Al says:

If you can’t beat them, join them; as the old saying goes.

We know where Obama is headed.

The Obama speech to school kids on September 8, 2009 was to further Obamas’ two goals:

      1. A new pledge of allegiance:

      I pledge allegiance to Obama,

Ruler of the United States of America,

and to his associates for whom he stands.

      One nation, under Obama,indivisible,

With liberty and justice for Democrats.

      2. A new “high 5” greeting; with right hand raised chant:

      Obama Rules!

Back in the 1920’s and 1930’s it took years forHitler, Mussolini, and Tojo to gain completecontrol of their countries and make their try

      to take over the world.

How long will it take Obama?

What if (IF) a lot of Obama opponents started adrive to wake up America by publicizing Obama’s two goals.

What if school kids started chanting the Obama Rules! greeting to each other at school and reciting the new pledge of allegiance before each class.

What if they made and passed out banners, letters, e-mails, and business cards with the Two Obama goals?

What would be the shock effect to most Americans (even Those who voted for Obama)?

What would it cost these Obama opponents in terms of time And money?

Imagine some of your kids taking hundreds of business cards to school and passing them around. Would the schools try to stop the kids (and get freedom of speech and freedom

of the press lawsuits)? Business cards can cost about 10 cents each in moderate quantities.

Would their efforts get press and TV coverage?

    49. Leonard Smith, Green says:

Nobody in his or her right mind should ever vote for any Democrat again. Even the so-called "pro-life" Democrats are just Democrats first and pro-life last, as we saw in the disgusting way they caved when the pressure was on. They easily gave up their "principles" for political bribes and empty assurances from the Prevaricator-in-Chief. Caution — don't just vote for anyone with an R after their name either. Vote only for those who can back up sound conservative credentials, and who know and understand the Constitution as its authors meant it to be understood: as a beacon to guide this Nation for all time, not as some kind of "living document" that can be changed at a majority party's whim, or totally ignored, as it has been since the current bunch got into power (by fooling the people into believing they were something they were not). Vote them out in the next election and never let them get power again, or this wonderful Country will be no more (if it isn't already too late).

    50. Martin/Georgia says:

I hope the CEOs don't cowtow to Waxman but expose him in public for what he really is.

      That would make good viewing.

    51. Gary Morelli, Savann says:

one would have thought the congress would ask these questions before passing and ill conceived law. and you have to ask, who do they think they are to even try to harass and intimidate the very people who provide employment for America.

    52. Donald Thorin, Glend says:

My response to this atrocity was simple. I requested the Supreme Court to declare the monster 2300 page legislation, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, unconstitutional and restore the citizen and States freedoms and rights. This has been sent to the Cheif Justice of the United States.

    53. Ross Blankert on the says:

All this adds emphasis to the statement, "elections do matter." If you allow Democrats to run the government, your taxes will go up, spending will increase by double and triple, government will grow exponentially. Liberals are for changing the culture as well. So we will increase the number of abortions by paying for them. When communists are in charge, that is what you will get.

    54. Keith, TX says:

Just as in the MLB, the US Congress feel they need to be involved in telling businesses how they need to run their business. The next thing you know, they will want to tell each American citizen where they can work and live. Oops. I should not give them ideas.

    55. Judy Mac, Florida says:

AT&T / I guess any big company with retired employees were/or will be sent a letter that their health care plan will be terminated. Makes sense: it cost $15,000 to cover retired employees and the Gov. can only penalize a company $3,000 for not insuring them. Common $enSe. It's cheaper to pay the penalty. If anyone thinks their healthcare plan is locked in.

Another item on healthcare bill everyone overlooked. Unearned Income, if you have a retirement plan, stocks, mutual funds, IRA, 401k, it will be taxed 3.8% over $200,000. per individual, or $250,000 per couple this will be used for medicare to cover illegal immigrants.

    56. joe snyder says:

I think the Washington Post poll really does not reflect the National heartbeat on Healthcare or the Obama presidential/ congressional standings. I believe this country is headed toward another states rights session from the union. Democrats and republicans alike have to long been representing themselves, special interest groups and organized labor. Greed and corruption is the rule of the day and now we have a man in the White house who thinks that he can somehow do as he pleases. Sieg Heil mein Führer. Good luck democrates on the next election, you're gonna need it.

    57. Mike, Chicago says:

      Impeach Obama.

    58. Joseph Gerant, (USN, says:

The Income Tax was never approved by the States. Taft Declared it Passed. And declared it law, then the Supreme court declared it legal. Google it. Think these people are idiots? They have precedent on their side. We have a hell of a fight ahead. Jefferson said a little rebellion once in a while would be a good thing. I hope this is winnable. Socialism is tough to beat. Took the Europeans generations to beat. They say they are not. But if you walk like a duck and quack, you are probably a duck. And no the Michigan Militia is getting heat, again.

    59. Blair, Franconia, NH says:

Obamacare's going to be paid for by a value added tax. So now we're going to be in the same VAT as Europe. WE, THE PEOPLE, WILL REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

    60. Turkey Jones says:

      Time for Revolution!!!

    61. Barbara/Dade City, F says:

obama knew "his" healthcare pkg cost would be extremely high. He does not even get it that Americans do not want this pkg nor do we want him sitting in the WH. His job performance is "F" and he still does not get it! I hope and pray the Chief Justice can and will do something and do it quickly! Wish we could recall obama. He is the worst president ever, even worse than Jimmy Carter!

    62. Connie says:

Hey, Listen up!…Turn off your TV…turn on Micro Effect and Republic Broadcasting Network on the NET….and until they shut off the NET…we have the TRUTH

on those radio stations. Turn off Govt.Run media…we are now in the Union of Socialists States….Get busy and get this country back!

    63. Howard Reed, Durhamv says:

Words to not only the Fortune 500 companies that will feel the pinch of ObamaCare, but all other companies also. If 'Nostrilits' Waxman wants to haul these companies in to congress to face his pack of feral busy bodies, humor him in this way.

He wants to see all the paperwork that has generated this finding within these companies. Every company that ObamaCare will negatively effect bring every scrap of paperwork to the halls of congress. Carry the volumes of paper into the House chamber, take all of it over to 'Nostrilitis'' section of the long dest and start pouring out the contents. He wants to see it, let Nostrilitis see it up close and personal.

      The Turban Torpedo

    64. Jack Vander Giessen, Highland, IN says:

It is my believe that the majority of the population of America has no understanding of what this Health Care bill means to them. What I would like to see is a condensed version of the bill in easy to read language. (Cliff Notes) This way the conseratives can to out and prove to the liberal public that this bill is not good for America. I am suprised that the Republican Party has not done this already.

    65. Jeanne Stotler,Woodb says:

There is a PROPOSED 28th admendment, that congress shall make no law that does not apply equally to the senators and represenatives, and that Congress will make no law that applies to them and not equally to the Citizens of USA. After the election 2010 we need to make sure this is passed, it is veto proof if 3/4ths of State Leg. pass this. Theis administration has overstepped it's boundry and we, the people need to put them in place, WE CAN DO IT. All it takes is to VOTE, come 11/2010. In the meanwhile fight so that this bill doesn't stand, encourage corp. to stand up instead of just standing idlely by and going bankrupt. My son's company, surveyor in Fla., has cut hours and his health care premium just for him is over $200 a month, his wife is disabled and she has to carry her own and another separate for their son, this will not get better, only get worse, premiums will sky rocket, particular for the seniors who have medicare supplement. Don't forget, Congress voted themselves and their aides a big salary increase and also voted for Soc. Sec. recepients not tho get a COLA for 2010 AND 2011. There are a lot of us seniors who are widowed and have SS as our main sourse of income, this puts a lot in the lowest poverty range. BHO does not care about you, me or any other american, he only cares to feed his own ego remeber he said " Pass this bill (Health care) to save my presidentcy" .

    66. Wayne Hatch, Murphy, says:

I don't know if you can repeal the Act, but I suspect if the current majority loses power, the incoming majority can certainly repeal those sections of the Act that pose the greatest risk to our financial well being. Haste makes waste and the Dems aare finding this out rather quickly given the earnings announcements by a number of major corportions. Not well thought out by Mr. Obama, Mr. Reid, Ms. Pelsoi and others. I suspect the Dems will try to amend the tax laws to deny the write-off once the health-care tax benefit ends this year. Mr. Waxman and company will use the power of the government to villanize the leaders of these corporations. Another show is in order demonstrating how power corrupts. Corporations didn't write the tax code, government did!

    67. Kelly, Pennsylvania says:

Where do I even start? Here's a suggestion; instead of voting for politicians who claim to represent the people (as we often find out they don't when they waffle their beliefs, sell out, take bribes or outright lie about what they support just to get into office), can we, the American people, just vote for the bills proposed by our government? It's quite simple really-just like elementary school-and since that is the level of intelligence we are dealing with in this government, it should work just fine. So, these clowns propose a simple, clear bill-let's keep it to under 200 pages, shall we?-and the public can vote on whether the bill should pass or not. Better yet, let's vote on each provision within the bill. It is the government's job to research and provide all the facts from all perspectives in order for the people to make an informed decision. Then, "We the people…" can decide what WE feel is best for us-not some unethical twit with his/her own agenda. And yes, those nimrods in government would have to live with our decisions. There would be no opportunity for them to get kickbacks from special interest groups. Let's eliminate the party lines and just vote on the best actions for the country instead of remaining loyal to your party regardless of the outcome. Is this not the true definition of a democratic society-that the people's opinions are represented? They sure aren't now.

As it stands, all the decisions made in your life are made by people who don't know you and could care less about your plight-they only care about stuffing their pockets and getting public recognition. I don't want them making decisions for me, do you?

    68. Anne says:

You have got to be kidding!!!!!! I had to stop spending to stay within my income. Yet the Government spends money like there is no tomorrow. They are taxing me to death. How I wish they get their common sense heads get screwed on straight. The other head they have already given to us in the butt.

    69. Pam, NC says:

Stupak NEVER intended to vote NO and the link above proves it.

It was made MONTHS before the vote.

WE The People should all know this- help pass it around!

    70. Ray, Montana says:

Lets see, Automobile manufacture take over, Banks taken over, Insurance companies taken over, Student loans taken over, Your bank accounts to be viewable by the government/removal of funds, Hillary signs United Nations Small Arms Ban Treaty, Illegal Amnesty(for votes), Obama declared that he would develop a civil militia and fund it well, Obama signed an executive order giving HAMAS (oops Palestinians) money for the resetlement to the U.S., WHAT HAS TO HIT YOU ON THE HEAD TO WAKE YOU UP? This is SOCIALISM pure and simple.

    71. John/Georgia says:

Yes, the losses are tied to government subsidies that are going away. So, they don't represent true losses to the corporations. No problem, right?

The subsidies to the companies were designed to reduce the number of retirees moving onto the public Medicare system in full force, saving public dollars. So, whether one considers this a tax subsidy or tax fraud, the outcome will be that more people will be moved onto the public Medicare rolls at a time when the number of retirements is increasing and the supporting tax base is waning. This may be a one-time loss for the reporting companies, but it will be a long-term cost to the rest of the economy.

As an aside, if these projected costs are solely due to loss of government subsidies from the federal government, one can't help but wonder why a voting member of that federal government, Mr. Henry Waxman, feels the need to conduct a hearing into the projections. Isn't he already aware of the terminated subsidies? Or was he just that unaware of his own voting history and the implications of passed legislation? This does little to enhance his already limited credibility.

    72. Pam, NC says:

For all of you who feel as betrayed as I do about Stupak's vote, please view and distribute the above link.

It PROVES he NEVER intended to stand firm.

I sent it to Fox- but they haven't picked up on it yet. Please help this go viral!

He didn't deserve your prayers- or mine.

    73. Karen Donley, Irving, Texas says:

I absolutely hate what is happening to our country. How dare this administration run us into the ground. I hope we can recover. This is so sad.

    74. okiejim says:

When are the liberal lies going to stop about Obamacare? Any high school student who has paid attention in history and math classes can figure out that Obamacare will not save money or improve health care. It is time for the manufacturers and business owners and financial institutions in America to stand up to the Waxmans in Congress and to the administration.
Representative Stupak should be ashamed of himself, but he still has an opportunity to seek redemption by telling Waxman that as Chairman of the Subcommitte on Oversight and Investigations, he has no intention of holding hearings and pillorying company officials. He can turn down the bribe money offered by Obama. He can also apologize to pro-life Americans for accepting the bribe and changing his vote.
When our own Congress becomes the enemy of free enterprise, profit making, human life, and freedom, changes are needed.

    75. Ralph Broadstreet, San Antonio Texas says:

We have heard all these numbers and data points already from the media, etc. This weekend I listened to a financial analyst/consultant on a.m. radio listing data I had not heard before about new taxes and the cost impacts of the new bill.

We need some new information to run with. Just like our Congress, we do not have time to read (let along print) the 2,000 page bill and then analyze it. This is what we need you for. I am well aware most of the primary care doctors I know are in their 60′s and will probably retire soon givent he impact of this program on their lives. I am well aware that small business owners are in trepidation about the new law.

What we need is detailed information to help us inform the people in the middle (the far left will never budge but will adhere to Pelosi’s statements) about reality so that we can impact the electrions this fall. We need the financial figures and facts to be armed for those discussions.

That is how you can help us, the “compassionate conservatives”, combat this legislation.

    76. Ron Reitz, Lafayette, LA says:

I am a little confused. Isn’t this increase in costs for these companies simply the elimination of a drug prescription subsidy they were getting from the government?

      Clarification, please.

    77. gerald skey says:

I agree with much that you say about the health care issue, but I do not see any compelling argument to go beynd that issue into other areas of criticism where the facts do not support you/us. For instance, you use the phrase “failed stimulus” plan. When Obama took office, there was a crisis throughout the fnancial world. President Bush acted on this crisis through the intial stages of what became a larger stimulus plan.
I have always had difficulty distnguishing between stimulus and bailout as I beleive that they are two sides of the same coin. Anyway, cannot say that he had any great alternatives available at that time. Certainly, our entire financial world depended on some of the bailouts.
As to health care, of course the gooold reliable tax payer is going to pay the bill. That is going to hurt and, I fear, will prevent a speedier recovery. As a “Senior” I derive a portion of my income from investments andit stands to reason that when Fortune 500 Companies take charges againt their earnings as we have seen (up to $1 billion dollars fo AT&T), there will be negative effects on the hiring practices of those Companies and/or the value of their stock will be hurt and so will be their stockholders.
But the bottom line is that we have a very, very liberal President and my greatest fear is that he is going to remake our society into millions of dependent drones as the easiest path (get someone else to support you) is never the best path – a truism that I am certain our Founding Fathers understood which is precisely why our Constitution, if it stands for little else, made itquite clear the our Federal Government should be limited in scope and power. Liberals do not understand that.

    78. Normca says:

What liberals will never get is that they and most of us work for corporations who need to make a profit to survive. GOP or Democrat; it makes no difference. Corporations need consistent rules to work with so they can do projections of operating costs, which is called planning for you in LA LA Land, Jarvis. Unless you are working for a not for profit; like GE and NBC, who can take money from tax payers and then dump on us with your tripe. Or unions who can go to the white and come way with an exemption. Get out those rose colored glasses cause no one except your dear leader has said HC is free.

    79. Nancy Jones / Auburn says:

"We have a long road ahead of us, but eventually the Obamacare nightmare will end." From your fingertips to God's ears my friend. I certainly hope that it's true.

    80. Joy James, Heber Springs, AR. says:

This health care nightmare has made me ill! I have had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach ever since listening to Stupak announce he was selling out! The only comfort I have is reading The Heritage Foundation’s “Morning Bell” postings; they offer a bit of sanity in a country that otherwise seems to have lost its way!

    81. bmcauliffej, NC says:

This article hits the nail on the head.
Obama to America — I Win, You Lose

      By Jon Kraushar

      – FOXNews.com

“Give me tyranny and give me debt” has replaced “Give me liberty or give me death.”

With his health care holy war, President Obama is sending America at least 10 messages since taking office:

      1. I win; you lose.
      2. My will; not the will of the people.
      3. Government of Obama, by Obama, for Obama; not government of the people, by the people, for the people.
      4. Corrupt House rules and autocracy; not play by the rules and democracy.
      5. “I’ll tread on you” now steps on “Don’t tread on me.”
      6. “I, the president”; not “We, the People.”
      7. “All men are created equal” but I am more equal than others.
      8. “The dissent of the president” overrules “the consent of the governed.”
      9. “Give me tyranny and give me debt” replaces “Give me liberty or give me death.”
      10. “That government is best which governs most” supersedes “That government is best which governs least.”

    82. foxnews.com says:

The demons are on the loose. Let's all pray that between now and the mid-term elections, this disgraceful, immoral adminstration doesn't poison our country with more Degenocratic appointments that slip and slide through without having been voted on in the Senate. How shameful, this cadre of anti-American radical swine who should be deported for their disrespectul and arrogant behavior.

    83. Sandra Schell, Turlo says:

Thank you, Janice Boone of Mobile AL !!! And Thank You to all those who are willing to fight Obamacare and other tyrannies forced upon us right now, without waiting for November to roll around.

"Freedom is a fragle thing and is never more than one generation from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance: it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freeom, and then lost it, have never known it again." — Ronald Reagan

I'm sure many of you have already read this quotation, as it was submitted by another person on another conservative website, regarding another news article. I feel it is worth re-reading, and so I also make reference to it.

Perhaps we would be wise to delve more deeply into the writings of America's past leaders, as well as to the Constitution itself, in our efforts to rid our country of tyranny.

"Fighting tyranny is obedience to God." — Thomas Jefferson

As for me and my house, it's Mitt Romney in 2012.

    84. Jodie, Memphis TN says:

I hope these CEOs stand up to this government harrassment. All these CEOs (I hope) will pump company $ to republican campaigns this year and in 2012. Get ready for a FIGHT!!!

    85. Sadie Klaus, Greenvi says:

Conservatives need to be printing up massive numbers of leaflets, making Obamacare easy to understand and explaining how this is going to affect Americans' bottom line at home, and put them in mailboxes across the country. Obama and congress have put his own hopes for a legacy above the American people. He'll be remembered alright, but not the way he wants to be. And all of his little sheep in congress who have so easily been led astray by him have lost the most important thing they could ever possess. Their dignity and reputations.

    86. Sandra Schell, Turlo says:

I did intend to infer that Mitt Romney is God but, rather, to indicate who I will be voting for in 2012.

    87. Mary.... WI says:

I hope more CEO’s from any size company big or small continue stand up to Obama and fiends. United we stand! Vote these radicals OUT in Nov. and don’t forget about some of the primaries next month too.

    88. Sandra Schell, Turlo says:

I did NOT intend to infer that Mitt Romney is God. Sorry for the typo, folks. OK, I'm outta here.

    89. KB Hahn, PA says:

Not only should these corporations (cited above), which have dared come quickly forth with facts and figures that expose Obamacare for what it is, delight in the opportunity to very publicly illustrate this in terms even liberals cannot dispute, but so should every other private/publicly traded corporation in the United States, that wishes to survive the wholesale slaughter of liberty, freedom, and capitalism, by the left. Big or small, they should be enthusiastically lining up, right behind Caterpillar, John Deere, AT&T, and Verizon, on the day they are summoned to testify. After all, surely they understand that Obamacare is a setup to financially destroy them? The architects of the collapse of the mortgage/financial industry (Barney and Freddie and Fannie, to name a few) did what they could to bring down a major chunk of the private sector, but that, of course, was not enough. Enter Obamacare, which will deftly serve to bring down even more of it. A great deal more of it.

The constantly dwindling number of corporations that still remain in our country, and which are now, more than ever, in the cross hairs of this “administration” and its “legislative” cohorts, that desire to maintain themselves, MUST focus all their energy, NOW, on what is to come, if the travesty that is Obamacare, is not stopped dead in its tracks.

The libs won’t be happy until every last vestige of capitalism lies on the ash heap of American history. They have already shown us that they will stop at NOTHING to accomplish this.

    90. Mac/Saint Paul says:

I worked for a large company with health care provided through union contract.

The contract has a clause that says the company can at any time modify and/or discontinue the health care coverage. If it costs the company $6000 to provide coverage for one employee and the government says it will fine the company $2000 for each employee does not the company save $4000 per enployee?

That being the case would not the company drop insurance?

The union would be very upset but the company would point out the each employee would be entitled to a tax credit to purchase thier own insurance.

This may be why the Card Check that the union wants has a provision that the government would be able to force binding arbitration after a ninty day strike.

This company has already terminated the pension plan and shifted 80% of health care costs on the management side so I don't think this is not a possibilty

that something like this wiil come down on the union side.

    91. Barbara Straub, Blac says:

Are we not surprised Representative Stupak and his friends got a sweet deal?! As for Mr. Waxman and his cronies, those companies are required by the Securities and Exchange Commission to reveal the information publicly BY LAW. They simply did what they were supposed to do. The committee hearings conducted by this administration is a waste of time, money and is just another intimidation tactic employed by this administration designed to destroy private enterprise and, in the end, the American middle class.

    92. Samuel af Ugglas says:

Why is it that nobody isn´t trying officially hauling these pro Obama healthcare Congressmen for interrogation about what´s in this fabolus 2500 pages healtcare bill.

The few interviewes made on Fox news has been quite discouraging and revealing

and any examination must as well help the judiciary when it comes to that stage.

    93. Richard Stanczak, Ba says:

Starting in 2011, companies such as Caterpillar (-$110 M) and AT & T (-$1 Billion), etc. will be forced to cut research, services & jobs. Where will this end, other than the financial collapse of this country? And it's politicians like Nancy Pelosi who benefit from rotten legislation such as this Healthcare bill. Guess what else is in there??? Get this – Her husband owns $17 Million in Starkist Tuna stocks, which is produced in American Samoa. Starkist just got a deal cut to where the workers received the minimum wage increase, where the increas is to be paid by the U.S. taxpayers by… you guessed it – our new Healthcare Bill!! Don't believe me, go on line & look up "Boycotting Starkist Tuna" and see for yourself. These rotten politicians have got to go before they destroy this country, which is what they are doing. And just wait until this immigration debacle hits us, which is next on Barry's agenda. God help us!!!

    94. Bill, Colorado says:

On Fri. I was notified by my provider that my health ins. would increase by 10% in May or June. It was noted that it was because of Obamacare.

    95. SAMUEL says:

    96. Mike , Carrollton, T says:

Many souls here within request possible solutions to this Obamaharm's coming severe damage to our nation and our freedoms. It's pretty simple and written into the U.S. Constitution. Let's just take control of the House this Nov. All monies spent by our government have to be first approved by the House. No approval = no spending and this nightmare becomes manageable.

That fact should encourage all to vote for Republicans in our most important election EVER!

    97. Jim Uberti--New Have says:

Ken Jarvis, are you reading the same article that I am??Because your take i9sbizarre!!!! On another subject, when are corporations going to starty fighting mback? They have the resources to inform their employees, stockholders and the public as to the true impact of this administration's new programs. When people start making the connection between gov't programs and their liveliehoods, they will vote accordingly.

    98. bigdave, ocala fl says:

Obamacare was declared by the demorats as a " BILL FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE". If that is so, then congress must be UN-AMERICAN, because they EXEMPTED THEMSELVES FROM IT!!! If its so darn good why is it not for them? Oh yeah…they are the ELITES! They are above us all!! How can this be possible since it breaks every constitutional law there is?! Can this be LAW when it is signed by an ILLEGAL PRESIDENT? Oh yeah? PROOVE IT! DON'T CALL NAMES…JUST PROOVE IT.

    99. Keith Breedlove, Oua says:

What if Congress called a hearing and nobody came? Those CEOs ought to tell them to pound sand.

    100. Billie says:

For those of you who trust the lies and deceit, the cover-ups and falsities of obama care, I pray.

Mr. Jarvis, there has always been health care available. Now obama calls it "health care insurance reform," which he never stated at the time of his illusionary crisis to the public. This is ridiculous, how obama is making it impossible to have private insurance. Why should you have to pay my costs for my individual life style Mr. Jarvis? I do have an expensive chronic illness, that wouldn't be so costly if people were paying their own. You are your own person, have some dignity!

    101. Concerned Nevada Cit says:

Today we received a letter from our insurer stating that our premiums will be going up 39%, to $1,777 per month. That is more than our home mortgage. We still have a long struggle in front of us for healthcare reform, obviously.

    102. Joseph Picone says:

I think that Heritage members should denounce this congressional "inquisition" by phoning and e-mailing committee members to express our disgust at this abuse of power. My understanding is that these companies must report these "write downs", by law. This Congress has got to go.

    103. Paul, Connecticut says:

      WHERE did the promises go?

      Complete TRANSPARENCY

      Eliminate EARMARKS

What I see is a massive growth in secret deals … corruption at the highest levels.

    104. Jeff Bakke, Oregon says:

AT&T and other companies received a 28% tax break so they would continue to honor their contractual obligations to long-term, loyal employees: the retirees. They received this tax break in 2003 to keep them from reneging on their promises and dumping their obligations on the taxpayers (through Medicare). They wanted other taxpayers to foot their bill; aka corporate welfare.

In recent days, they have been complaining about “cost increases” associated with the closing of a “double-dipping” loophole in the 2003 original legislation. AT&T and other companies' claim of "cost increases" should be clarified so people really understand the issue. In 2003, under the drug plan legislation, these companies received the aforementioned 28% subsidy for the cost of their payments to retiree drug plans. In addition, they were able to continue to deduct the full amount of the payment to the plan. Following is an example of what this meant: An expense of $100 is paid for retiree drugs as provided for in AT&T's contract with employees. The government then gave the company $28 towards payment of the expense; net cost to the company: $72. But AT&T was still able to deduct the full $100 from their income, even though they only paid $72. In other words, they were able to deduct a $28 charge from their income even though you and I, other taxpayers, paid that $28. This is just plain wrong and the 2010 healthcare legislation simply closed the loophole. Incidentally, they still get the $28 subsidy, which you and I are paying for. When these companies claim they'll have to cut healthcare benefits, lay people off, etc., then blame it on this healthcare legislation, they are being fundamentally dishonest. What they’re really doing is using this healthcare legislation as an excuse to make further cuts to wages and benefits. Unfortunately, Conn, you and the majority of the other folks commenting on this article can’t seem to see through this cynical ploy.

      Jeff Bakke

    105. John, Colorado says:

All you need to know about this bill is biometric identity card.

It might as well be called the Mark of the Beast.

Those CEO's ought to tell Waxman to go to hell, and refuse to comply with him.

Congress is NOT the executive branch. It has no police power. The judiciary has no police power, except that on loan to it from the executive branch. And Obama has no authority to tell CEO's what to do.

    106. Dave M, N.Illinois. says:

You may have read that Obamacare led to the hiring of 16,000 new IRS agents to screw you out of your money. Next week expect a press release saying how proud obama is for creating16,000 new jobs! What a POS!

    107. Stephen Russell, La says:

      Plus add these:

      IRS to manage Obamacare Finances.

4% tax on Home sales etc.

      More local, state taxes.

Govt & Congress NOT under Obamacare plans.

Creates 159 new agencies? (for what).

      & more regulations etc.

Wed have worst HC than in EU.

Unless we stop this bill or remove the most heinous amendements IE

      4% tax on home sales.

      IRS oversees Plan

      159 new agencies?

      (worse than Jimmy Carter).

& our kids kids will have this burden on them.

    108. Charles Martel, Flor says:

If Henry Waxman didn't want the companies to report the effects of Obamacare, then he should have repealed the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations requiring the reporting. Can he spell "HYPOCRITE"?

    109. Victoria, California says:

No matter how much propaganda they pump out I feel the greatest majority of Americans

opposing this horrendous tyrannical piece of un-constitutional legislation will stand firm.

There will be some who succumb but I believe many will stay the course and continue to oppose this on every front.

    110. Sue From Detroit says:

These CEO's should demand records from Waxman. Waxman work for the CEO's of this country. The Ceo's do not work for Waxmen. What nerve!!! All these manufacturing companies should tell Waxman to jump in the lake. They owe him no explanation. Waxman should do the explaining to the American People.

    111. Ted Moore Grand Prar says:

I believe that these fortune 500 companys that are set to testify in front of stupak and his stateist drones should not back down to these commies, instead stand thier ground and make sure that the American people are well aware of the divasateing effects of obamacare, and any other projected uncostitutional legislation they intend to shove down thier collective throats.

    113. J.Bradford Florida says:

Why does the American voter keep saying "the liberals just don't get it" ? They get

it fine. This action has been planned for some time when all the pieces of the

puzzle come together, own Congress, the White house, and the extreme left.

Liberals know that they can't be stopped from passing any legislation they choose.

Most of the Dem's. want to turn this country into a welfare state. They have been trying since FDR. To get to socialism, you first must destroy capitalism. This is

where this administration is leading the country. If congress passes an amnesty

bill, with 19 million new citizens voting democrat, the two party system as we know it, will be gone forever. There is much more at stake here than a health

      care bill.

    114. Tom Miniscalco says:

Author: Thomas Sowell, Stanford Stanford University. Excerpt Feb 2,2008.What principle separates Repuplicans from Democrats? Are they Truly Tweedledee & Tweedeldum? Looking at the track record, rather than rhetoric, the smart money doesn't look as smart. When have the GOP won big? When they stood for something, and told the people what that something was.Too many seem to think being inclusive means selling out your principles to attract votes. It never seems to occur to them that you can attract a wider range of voters by explaining in a way more people can understand. That is precisely what the Gipper & Newt did in 1994. We need hard chargers not useless rhetoric. TAM

    115. Charles Ash, Houston says:

Absolutely horrific !!! I'm sure the hearings with America's CEOs will be covered on CSPAN ! Is any of this Constitutional…What is they don't handover the information ? This is an absolute trainwreck!

    116. william alford says:

I'm like many others, This bill that has passed needs to be aired so others can read it and decide just how it affects our standard of living. Also these huge corporations have literallybeenn screwing the public so long that you cannot really put any stock in what they say. Lets open up, be fair be honest with each other and then we may be able to reach a concensus.

In the interum we must also acknowledge that the Insurance Companies ,the American health association, the American Bar Association and the Unions have been fleecing the citizens of America for decades. If we want true reform lets look at our capitalistic society and know that the people of our country don't really give a damn about each other. We're like wild dogs we live by the survival of the fittest.

Reform, I'm all for it. But by the good lord it needs to be open and above board.

    118. Linda,Louisiana says:

It is very frightening how the President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama, is taking such ruthless measures to punish individuals and businesses for their action to oppose the ObamaCare. Someone needs to wake up and take action to move this man out of office, as well as, Representative Pelosi and

senator Reid. Lieing, cheating, bribery is a way of life to these individuals. Now punishment for freedom of speech and right to opinion are grounds for impeachment. Who knows what is next. Could it be murder. It has been done in other countries, and I would venture to say that this nation is bending in that direction. One thing for sure, Barack Hussein Obama is destroying this Great Nation, along with his cronies. How much longer can we endure this? To have a self acknowledged Muslim running and ruining this Nation is intolerable. God Help Us All. Please take control of this problem before we are destroyed. Please forgive us for "kicking" you out of our schools, our sports activities, and our government and give us the courage and strength to put YOU back in our lives.

    119. Norbert, Ohio says:

From a historical perspective. President Obama is trying to destroy the middle class. He knows that it was the middle class that revolted against England thus forming this great nation. He also knows that to retain and gain more power he must destroy the livelyhood of those who would reject him and his cohorts at the polls. He needs to make us dependent on the government to meet all of our needs instead of Providence. We ignore history at our own peril.

    120. Pam, NC says:

We must stop calling these things 'entitlements'. That is a Socialist Term to fool people.. Call them what they are…"Welfare'.

The Obama Administration is working to create a Welfare State, not a Nanny State which the terminology has no teeth.

In is all about the words, the language. You must inform people in real understandable terminology that the general population understands.

Otherwise they win the war with words.

    121. Becky, Michigan says:

If our current health care economy is not a complex system, we don't have one. The problem with trying to manage anything complex is that predictability becomes harder the more variables involved.

Neither Republicans or Democrats, the President or CBO, MSM or pundits, could predict the announcements by large companies within days of the bill passing. How do we really know what's going to happen 10 years from now? We don't.

What we have here is central planning, and it never works.

What I know for sure, it that the more government expands, the less confidence the average American should have in being able to make decisions and control his own life.

I predict lower standards of living, less choices, and sparodic shortages in some areas combined with gross excesses in others. The uneven distribution of resources will not be used to walk back the program, but to insist even more money and people are needed. (It wasn't that the stimulus was poorly put together, but that it wasn't big enough economic theory).

If 300 million people make just one economic decision every day, how will a couple of smart guys be able to keep up with the demand? The most efficient method of using resources are when individuals are left alone. Although it won't be perfect, the mistakes people make will not be magnified, like one politician making a mistaken decision for a few million. And other politicians (fellow travelers making the same).

The rich will still have medical care here. So will those who want to spend their own money. It is defeating as a little guy to pay a fine, or insurance, then turn around and buy the medical care you really want. Harder to get ahead.

    122. jkoss tennesee says:

To much Talk, talk, talk!!! Get out and Vote, vote, vote! Stay focused and we will have OUR chance in November. It is the only way. Get those lazy neighbors off their couches and get them involved. Convince them that this guy and his cronies are marching us straight into the: "Abyss'. Love that word. My only hope is that Al Franken is the first one over it. Remember the words of George Carlin.

"Somewhere in the world is the worlds' worst Politician (Doctor) may be he's yours.

    123. Mary, Detroit Mi says:

The issue that I believe is the most important, isn't being discussed very much at all. That is, that the absolute POWER that we have handed over to the government will be our downfall for certain. Even if we could trust and believe in Obama, sooner or later, he will be out of office and another will take his place, inheriting all of that power. Who is to say that the next president will be trustworthy? Another Domocrat? A Republican? Look ahead to the near future. With all of that power, that next president & administration will have the ability to control every aspect of our lives, preaching that they "know what's best for us".Our children & grandchildren will never know the real American way of life that we were blessed with until now.

    124. CHyatt, Albuquerque says:

The lesson that will be learned is that you cannot force a business to make only certain levels of profit, that is reserved for the purchasers of goods. Business is going to react, as they have, and we will see many more people without jobs. For the sad truth is, you also cannot mandate that a company have a certain level of payroll. This country has elected a street smart dealer of spin who will stop at nothing to push his agenda. The strange thing about this is "How must Hillary and Bill be feeling right about now?". The feared powerhouse who tried but could not pass Health Care has been trumped by a Chicago Activist. Expect to see insurance company consolidations and then the shutting down of private insurance. This is how it works, owners and executives will bleed every cent of profit and then either close up shop or sell. For the employee of these companies it will be a slow death. The America our fathers knew no longer exists!

    125. Judy Krueger,Switz C says:

yesterday we received a letter from PIONEER HI BRED telling us that my husband's insurance will be over on Jan, 2012. He has been retired for 20 years and has avery small retirement and had always had insurance. OK so I began to read some of their paperwork that was sent along with some tips to keep you healthy. There was an article about health care insurance plans and I figured it up it would cost about 15,000.00 dollars and we are on fixed income. We have long term care and that is $3,000.00. None of this includes all the pain killers, stomach medicines, aspirin, etc. WE LIVE ON A FIXED INCOME. WE have social security and pensions where is all this coming from

    126. Tom , Amherst says:

I read the letter from the committee on Energy and Commerce to the CEO's. It was not a 'demand', as you say. It was a request.

Ironic, though, that Stupak's name comes up again. He's the chair of the sub-committee on investigations

    127. Barry N. Schmidt, D. says:

I would like to know why the Republican Party has not taken up the fight in the same manner as the Tea Party. The Republicans have been about 1% as vocal as they should have been and should have not left it to the radio commentators or the Tea Party "core."

    128. Kristi, Mississippi says:

As a recent college graduate and first-time mother I am extremely apprehensive about what this health care nightmare is going to mean for myself, but most importantly, for my child. While I agree that there could be major changes and reforms to health care, I disagree with the approach that Congresswoman Pelosi, Congressman Reed, and President Obama have taken. Asking younger, healthier Americans such as myself to shoulder higher premiums in order for older, sicker Americans to pay less simply isn't fair. This complete overhaul of health care has made a mess of this country. Members of Congress are completely out of touch with mainstream America, especially those of the liberal persuasion. I didn't want this overhaul of healthcare for myself, but more importantly, I certainly didn't want it for my daughter. All that the government is doing is expanding the entitlement generation like never before. Yes, I agree that health care should be affordable and attainable. However, it is not the government's job to provide health care for its citizens.

If Obama was a president of a corporation and made the "closed door" deals in order to secure votes to purchase a new corporation, he would be in jail now. His promises of transparency, openess, and bipartisianship is all a lie as we all know. Too bad he doesn't realize that we know it and we aren't ignorant people. Let's get him out of the White House……oh, wait, he likes to ride in the big jet because it makes him feel more important with the other 3-4 jets that have to accompany him wasting fuel, leaving a huge carbon footprint! Can you say HYPOCRITE?

    135. Zack says:

what about both bush tax cuts that will add over 2.5 trillion to the national debt. what about the unfunded private military contracts for "operation iraqi freedom" that will add over .5 trillion to the national debt. what about the spending increase during the bush administration and republican congressional control that have already added 5.5 trillion to the national debt. thats over 8.5 trillon added to our national debt. the increase is in treasurydirect.gov. what about the housing market that had less then 10% of all lenders subject to cra or any other government regulations. that leaves 90% (free as free can be) free market based economics. what about the debt that doubled under george w. bush and reagan. what about 35 years of conservatives blocking any and all health reform measures knowing full well that it is a huge problem, nothing even came out of the house or senate sub-committee's through republican/conservative sponsorship. what about republican/conservative congressional control never passing a single bill for financial reform from the 103-109th congress…nothing, absolutly nothing. ive never seen so many people on one page sucked into this blind partisanship. have any of you read hr. 3590, 3962? the revised bill? the status-quo of healthcare in the united states. have any of you walked out of your heritage.org comfort zone and accomplished some actual research and studied factual sources and websites? the best word to describe the comments i have seen on this blog is this….-sad. just plain sad.

The only reason these "elected" public officials want them to come in to testify is so they can snip and cut their responses to make themselves look good and these corporate leaders look evil…it's such an old tired game!

    138. HawkWatcher says:

Zack…This Democrat Congress, along with Democrat Obama, has spent more money that they don't have than all other previous administrations combined. Bush had nothing to do with the current Democrats runaway, irresponsible, nation-destroying spending. You live in a different time or world or something, sad indeed.

Let me break it down for you. Democrats. Spending. New Taxes. Spending. Democrats. More Regulations. Spending. Control. Democrats. Spending.

You come here saying we don't research, and dis Heritage for providing the very things you complain that we don't research. That's truly twisted thinking. Having been deemed an appendage of said nightmare, you are hereby dismissed.

    139. Zack says:

Hawkwatcher, so Obama and the 111th congress majority have spent over 11.5 trillion dollars in 15 months? wow, really?

you wrote- "Bush had nothing to do with the current Democrats runaway, irresponsible, nation-destroying spending"

so bush and the republican/conservative congress for 12 years that have already added over 7 trillion and adding a total of 8.5 trillion to the national debt by 2016, is ok with you?

and no, you dont research, Heritage is one of the most flawed websites in history. Sometimes the data produced is so far from accurate its pointless to even bother. When will someone dispute the 8.5 trillion added to the debt by bush and republican/conservative congress. When will I get an "adult" response. This is starting to get old.

By the way conservatives/republicans have spent, borrowed, spent, borrowed, spent, gave tax breaks to the rich, spent, spent, spent, borrowed, spent, spent, deregulated the entire market, deregulated the housing market, healthcare market, credit agencies, spent, spent, spent, borrowed….so what's your point?

I have come across a great short movie on YouTube.com. It features a death panel that is supposed to take place three years from now. It is in 3 segments and you access it by typing in the following four words: Death Panel Alan Smithee

You then hit search and watch the segments one at a time. It will scare you and make you mad as you see them deal with 16 cases on final appeal to them. All the decisions made about the allowed or denied care for each patient have occurred in Canada and/or the United Kingdom in the past. It starts off slowly, but soon grabs your interest. I am glad I found the Death Panel movie. It should convince some of my liberal friends that they are misguided in their support for Obamacare.
