  • Morning Bell: Obamacare at Any Cost

Yesterday the White House circulated a memo by pollster Joel Benenson. It was designed to create momentum for Obamacare by convincing wayward House Democrats that support for the President’s plan has been building since the State of the Union. As with everything else that comes out of the White House on health care these days, the memo is nothing but pure fantasy.

This Tuesday, Gallup released its latest poll showing that by a 48%-45% margin Americans would tell their representative in Congress to vote against President Obama’s health plan. Compare that to the last time Gallup asked the question in January, Americans supported the President’s plan 49%-46%. That’s a net six point loss in support for the President’s plan since the State of the Union. That is momentum. Against Obamacare.

And Gallup isn’t alone. The Associated Press released a poll this week showing that 68% of Americans believe the President and Congressional Democrats shouldn’t pass their health care plan without Republican support.  “Nothing has been more disconcerting than to watch Democratic politicians and their media supporters deceive themselves into believing that the public favors the Democrats’ current health-care plan,” Democratic pollsters Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen add in today’s Washington Post, “A solid majority of Americans opposes the massive health-reform plan.”

Yesterday was particularly tough for the President’s plan. First, the White House underwhelmed the Democratic Caucus in a presentation of the new (still unwritten) reconciliation bill. Then, the Senate Parliamentarian killed the Democrats favored procedural path for passage by signaling he would rule that President Obama must sign the original Senate bill into law before the Senate could act on the President’s new reconciliation package. Finally, the Associated Press reported that House leaders have abandoned all hope of finding language to satisfy Rep. Bart Stupak’s (D-MI) concerns that the Senate bill funds abortion. By the end of the day, the leftist firedoglake site had dropped its count of committed House Democrats for passage to 189 (Speaker Pelosi needs 216 for passage).

With the loss of Stupak and his 7-12 member caucus opposed to taxpayer-funded-abortions, Speaker Pelosi will have to find the remaining dozen plus votes from the ranks of cost conscious Blue Dog Democrats. For example, Rep. Suzanne Kosmas (D-FL) who voted against the House bill in the fall explained at the time: “According to the Congressional Budget Office, the House health care bill will actually increase federal health care spending over the long term, while proposals being considered by the Senate would have a net decrease.” But according to a new CBO score of the Senate bill passed on Christmas Eve (the one with the Cornhusker Kickback), it actually increases health care spending. And the reconciliation bill only make things worse, since, among other increased spending measures, President Obama “fixed” the Cornhusker Kickback not by eliminating the new spending, but by extending it to all 50 states.

With no votes piling up, and  “yes” votes materializing, the Democratic plans to shove Obamacare down the throats of the American people are becoming more and more desperate. This Monday, the House Budget Committee will begin markup on the new reconciliation bill even though actual legislative text does not exist for it yet. The Democrats plan to pass a shell of a bill through the appropriate committees so that the Rules Committee can then substitute the bill that is being drafted completely behind closed doors by the White House and Senate and Democrat leaders.

Politico reports that despite the Parliamentarian’s initial verbal ruling, they will press on with their Slaughter Rule plan to pass the Senate bill without voting on it. NRO’s Yuval Levin quips: “Democratic leaders should be asking themselves just how they have gotten to the point that their strategy is to amend a law that doesn’t exist yet by passing a bill without voting on it.”

But President Obama’s progressive base is way past rational thought when it comes to health care. They want it passed at any cost. And as George Will pointed out yesterday, the very essence of progressivism sublimates the democratic process to the rule of experts in Washington. No one can say if this bill will finally pass, but if it does, it is abundantly clear that our republican form of government will be permanently damaged by it.

    Quick Hits:

    • House Republicans agreed Thursday to adopt a ban on congressional earmarks in spending bills for next year.
    • The Justice Department acknowledged yesterday that Attorney General Eric Holder failed to disclose to the Senate that he had signed several briefs arguing the President has no power to detain American citizens as enemy combatants.
    • Countrywide Financial special loan recipient Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) will unveil his financial reform bill on Monday without any bipartisan support.
    • The Obama administration has fallen far behind in making anti-corruption checks on new hires and current employees on the Mexican border.
    • President Barack Obama promised yesterday to revive legislation that would grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants currently in the United States.

    1. Dana, Apopka, FL says:

This is a disturbing new low for the Democrats in Congress. If they go forward with the "Slaughter Rule," the U.S. will no longer be a representative Republic. Instead, we will be better defined as some sort of fascist hybrid, with our legislative decisions being made by the "Politburo," and the rule of law having no meaning. I am hoping this sorry condition in our structure of government will be changed in November, but until then, we can't be considered the world's leading democracy.

    2. ed, ohio says:

well….I guess this is the transformational "CHANGE" Obama promised as he tries to rewrite the Constitution for the collectivist Progressives, at the expense of destorying our Republic, state's rights…indivisable, freedom, and liberty for all….sounds like that education at Harvrad has paid off for this "law" Professor.

    3. A. Scott, El Paso says:

The statement “No one can say if this bill will finally pass, but if it does, it is abundantly clear that our republican form of government will be permanently damaged by it,” certainly got my attention. This thought is the most distressing that the Heritage has published and should be headed by all who read it, especially all Democrats.

    4. Jimiguana, florida says:

It is amazing to me that America has so swiftly descended from its lofty exceptionalism to the stature of a banana republic lead by an arrogant, self-centered muslim-schooled community agitator. What is more amazing is the willingness of so many in this country to be lead to the slaughter. It reminds me of the jews who went silently off to their demise in Hitler's Germany. History surely does repeat itself

    5. Mary Brown Cleveland says:

I want to know how "We The People" get across toCongress and "the President" that WE DON'T want this Healthcare bill passed?? It does not represent what WE want. Tell them to take the cotton out of their ears and listen to the PEOPLE who hired them to do OUR work. We want smaller government,Cut spending. Get out or the banking, automotive, mortgage, healthcare management and let the people get back to doing what we do best,Manage our own lives without government interference. Government IS the problem

      Mary Brown

    6. Bill Mathews says:

Obomacare has finally been revealed. This bill and all the effort to pass it even in the face of overwhelming opposition from the people is nothing more than a payback to the Unions. Once the Federal Govenment controls 1/6 of the economy, they will quickly work with the Unions to unionize Doctors, Nurses, Coders, Case workers, this is it in a nutshell! The Unions bancrupted Chrysler and GM, now they want their hands on our Healthcare workers. When will we wake up and smell the coffee! This administration is handing out candy (spreading the wealth around) like only the best socialist from Europe. To hell with the consequences. TARP, CAP AND TRADE, STIMULUS, When will we put the brakes on this madness??

Federal Government …. DONT TREAD ON ME!!

    7. Patricia Theryoung, says:

I have NEVER in my entire life felt so betrayed as I'm feeling right now. I've always been a PROUD AMERICAN and have had no problem with expressing my patronage. Now, however, I'm ashamed that so many of the Congress and Senate want to change this Country to be Socialistic when we're living in the greatest Country in the World… how dare you!!!

Please reconsider before it's too late.

    8. Lawrence T. Adams,39 says:

I believe his attempt at dictatorial force is grounds for impeachment. He leaves no doubt that he wishes to destroy the freedoms we are founded for. L Adams

    9. Mike Caprarese, Haym says:

If this bill is pushed through by the progressives by changing law and voting on a non existent bill, I believe the outcry will be reattached up to the point of political and governmental retribution. Not only voting out all of the current politicians (Dems. and Reps. alike) but taking a stand on paying the taxes which support this bill. As a concerned citizen I am fearful of where this great country is heading. Too many have suffered and too many have died to protect this countrys freedom. I continue sending letters to my delegates letting them know where I stand and I hope may others are doing the same. God Bless America!

    10. Lawrence T. Adams,39 says:

I have completed the above and I believe that Obama's attempt to force control is grounds for impeachment. L. Adams

    11. Lawrence T. Adams,39 says:

    12. Giles, Winnsboro, TX says:

How can this be said any better than this quote from the above article. This is bold statement should turn all the "yes" votes into "no" votes

"Politico reports that despite the Parliamentarian’s initial verbal ruling, they will press on with their Slaughter Rule plan to pass the Senate bill without voting on it. NRO’s Yuval Levin quips: “Democratic leaders should be asking themselves just how they have gotten to the point that their strategy is to amend a law that doesn’t exist yet by passing a bill without voting on it.”" At the end of this article is something we "all" should be considering: "President Obama’s progressive base is way past rational thought when it comes to health care. They want it passed at any cost. And as George Will pointed out yesterday, the very essence of progressivism sublimates the democratic process to the rule of experts in Washington. No one can say if this bill will finally pass, but if it does, it is abundantly clear that our republican form of government will be permanently damaged by it." Once the damage is done we will be changed forever and it will take generations to heal the cancer of liberal progressivism, if it in fact can be healed.

    13. Concerned, - NC says:

This is good news. America's 'gag' reflex is working. We don't want to be morbidly in debt.

    14. James A, Canyon,TX says:

I hope that Obamacare or whatever it is fails. If the Republican Party is wise, it will craft a 10- to 12- page plan that incorporates good ideas that several legislators have offered. I refer to the MDs in the Republican party, and also let's stiff the trial lawyers.

Simple plan because a state objective is: cover those lacking coverage.

Second, craft ways to save Medicare and Medicaid or modify with wisdom.

Third, offer a constitutional amendment that forces all representatives and senators and the executive branch and all branches of government to have the same coverage and abide by the same laws the elected force on the American people. Close of Office of the Attending Physicians for routine medical care for Congress, etc.

      Give Obama a headache!

    15. Coach David says:

The health care bill is straight out of the theater of the absurd. Most Americans don't want it, the actual 2700+ page bill really doesn't exist, Pelosi has said 'pass it' and then we'll see what's in it, the House doesn't trust the Senate and vice versa, and we're really stupid if anyone thinks it really will not add to the defict, nevermind lowering the deficit. Just simply outrageous.

Throw the tyrants out! Peasants with pitchforks unite!

    16. Lloyd Scallan - New says:

Obamacare memos are not "pure fantasy"! They are deliberate LIES and distortions. Obama and the Dems will do anything (legal or illegal) or say anything to get this disaster to Obama's desk. By listening to the Obama lackeys on talk shows, you realize just how desperate these people are becoming. They compare things like Civil Rights and "Bush's War" to

Obamacare. They know they are out of legitimate answers as to why the American people are against this bill. They are now using the most absurd comparisons to make a final push to confuse and distort the truth.

    17. Craig J. Klima Balti says:

When is Obama going to stop lying to the American People????!!! We are growing very tired of it and all the "Closed Door" meetings He keeps having !!!! It is time to come out of the shadows and be strait with the American Citizens about just what you are doing and how much of "OUR" money you are spending or are going to spend !!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. If ,by chance you do pass amnesty, Mr. President it will start the first Revolution since the Civil War !!!!

    18. William Cole, Texas says:

While it is incumbent on each of us to oppose the encroachment on liberty, free will and the concept of a representative republic that the proposed health care reform will impose on each of us, let us not forget that health care reform is only the beginning of the last phase of a journey started by President Wilson.

Without a complete circumvention of the intent of parlimentary procedures, it appears that health care reform may be doomed, or at least sidetracked. It is now time to expose all proposed legislation that will also jeopardize our liberty and fully expose to all of America the extent of just how extreme this administration's agenda is.

    19. Bud S Eureka, Ca says:

"No one can say if this bill will finally pass, but if it does, it is abundantly clear that our republican form of government will be permanently damaged by it."

Well, there you go. No better way to destroy America than to corrupt the process of passing laws by corrupting the law. If the system isn't already broke it most certainly will be. That is the bottom line for the party leadership… watch their behavior.

    20. John Ottley, Jr. Atl says:

If this goes through, we will need to replace the blue field and stars on our flag with a hammer and sickle.

    21. Richard Cancemi, Arl says:

People in the Government, especially the President, need to be reminded that they sore an oath to defend, preserve and uphold The Constitution! None of them seem to remember this! Government health care is unconstitutional as are so many other Progressive incursions into our lives.

What the Progressives have done, and continue to do, is disregard The Constitution. No one ever holds them accountable to that Oath. Obama and the current Progressive majority in the Legislature, not to mention activist judges, are violating it with impunity.

All who go along with their un-American schemes are nothing less than oath breakers and traitors and they need to be reminded of this. and taken to task!

    22. Maureen New Jersey says:

I feel like I am in a country that Hugo Chavez is running. This is insane. Never in my lifetime have I seen such audacity towards the rights of the majority of voters. I fear this will only be the beginning. Regulations will be passed without voting which will slowly erode our liberties without our ability to stop them. Ladies and gentlemen as I told friends the other day our life has changed dramatically. Like a thief in the night this administration will strip away freedoms with the reasoning that it is for our own good. I am one of many who want health reform but not this insanity.

    23. KB Hahn, PA says:

This maniacal push for "Health Care" has nothing to do with health care, and everything to do with destroying our nation, our Constitution, and We The People. For no other reason would so much passion and determination be expended on the passing of this "legislation". Others comment, wondering what we can do to make this president and his cohorts understand that we don't want this health care reform. As if, if enough of us got together, and spoke loudly and clearly enough, he'd actually get it. Nuts! Not if every single one of We The People made it as abundantly clear as possible to him, would he "listen".

Obama couldn't care less about what We The People want. We The People are nothing but an annoying house fly, buzzing around his head. Until we become something bigger and more annoying, he will absolutely, positively continue to ignore us as though we are not even there.

    24. Kevin Habib, Glen Bu says:

Obama's progressive base is way past rational thought?

If reform is passed, our republican government will be permanently damaged?

Well, America can only hope so.

I don't understand how the conservative base can still believe their leaders. The same leaders that convinced them Iraq has WMDs and convinced them to spend trillions in unfunded taxpayer monies and thousand of American lives on a war started for mmisinformation.

The believe the same converative leaders who took a 5.6 trillion projected surplus into deep projected deficits and the worst economic crisis since the great depression.

The same conservative leaders who had 8 years to reform health care while thousands lose their coverage every week, medical bankruptcies going through the roof, premiums skyrocketing, health care cost rose at the greatest rate in history and still did nothing.

The continue to believe the politcal double talk where their leaders have talked for years to make reductions to Medicare spending, but now rail against it with political motives. The hypocrisy in conservative base is mindblowing. Even heritage papers back in 2001 and 2003 were mockingly talking about how the debt doesn't matter and how we have too much surplus. Go back and read the piece in 2001 – you'll all be very surprised.

The comments amaze me and I see how entertainment channels like foxnews are destroying possible dialogue. They actually make people believe a bill does not exist or that Congress hasn't read the bill. The make people believe the offical scorekeeper (CBO) in congress is lying. There is no question the biggest threat to economic security of American is rising health costs. Conn will back that statement up. Health costs is #1 issue to deal with..and this is shown to reduce deficits and debts. If you don't believie CBO – please show me your projections that say otherwise.

To call this bill communistic or socialist is true absurdity. There is no public option in the bill. What it does is create an exchange where individuals and small businesses can poll together and get lower prices on health coverage (like corporations and the government have the ability to do) and lets all the insurance companies compete for the business within the poll. How cna anyone object to that?

How can anyone object to stopping health insurance abuses like kicking people off who have pre-existing conditions, or refusing to accept anyone with pre-existing conditions, or the abuse of recissions. The issue is, we cannot do that to the insurance companies without mandating insurance coverage for all (even a hsa or high deductable plan for young folks – who we all pay for anyway if they have an accident or emergency).

How can anyone obejct to closing of the abusive loopholes and overpayments? or attacking fraud more strongly?

Though I agree with everyone that every single Member of congress and federal employee should be required to get their converage through the exchange – but I presume that will be the case anyway, because I'm sure Blue Cross will be offered in the exchange because they want the business and that is what Members and Fed employees have.

James lays out good ideas – and most of those ideas are in the bill.

    25. JFBeck says:

It is clear the the end is near for the Republic…..The second revolution will begin this Spring if this illegal process continues.

It will start with a tax revolt. People will shut down the goverment by withholding taxes. Businesses will layoff people to make their point. Shutting down the goverment by the people for the people is next. Then will come pitch forks. They don't have to worry about finding the time to go back to their districts….the people will be coming to Washington.

It will be sad times for the Democrats.

Obama will be going after the 2nd amendment next. It is his last move before he will be forced out of office by the uprising.

    26. Jason, Pittsburgh PA says:

When will you people wake up and realize that Obama and these marxist, communist demoncraps are not stupid. THEY DON"T CARE WHAT YOU WANT! They know full well what is going on with the public because they know once this is in place, the likelihood is that it will never be repealed, definitely not under Obama and probably never unless Repubs. win the white house and a supermajority in both houses. The point is if this passes, we need a march on Washington and for million of people to refuse to pay any fines or pay into it. It has to be bankrupted.

    27. Lloyd Scallan - New says:

One very important aspect of Obamacare that is not mentioned enough, is the reason Obama wants it passed ASAP.The related taxes will start being assesed NOW, but the benefits will not go into effect for FOUR years. That give Obama four years of tax collections without one penny towards medical coverage. Of course he also doesn't want us to know what is in the bill before,as Pelosi said, pass it first then learn afterwards, just how distructive to this country Obamacare will be.

    28. Joseph Arsenault Dre says:

"their strategy is to amend a law that doesn’t exist yet by passing a bill without voting on it.”

One can see a parallel sequence of events to 1770s. I beleive back then they felt it was "taxation without representation."

I now feel what they were feeling.

      Joe A

    29. Ken Jarvis says:

"“No one can say if this bill will finally pass, but if it does, it is abundantly clear that our republican form of government will be permanently damaged by it,”
It will "permanently" provide HCoverage for ALL Americans
      NOT just the Rich.
The GOP ONLY Goal is to PROTECT THE RICH.

    30. Norma Link, Lakewood says:

'Taxation without representation' is what this bill entails. I am betting that if all Americans were aware of the freedoms they will be losing, they would all be against this bill. I am 74 and on Medicare. I don't like it. I cannot go to any doctor I want to and I am not allowed to pay a doctor if they won't accept Medicare. Also we are not allowed to pay for any procedure or service if Medicare denies payment for it! If this bill is passed, we will be in more trouble as it will further cut the services Medicare will provide. Anyone who was concerned about death panels being put into place should realize that they are already in place for the elderly on Medicare.

I have stopped writing to my representatives and senators as they have all said they don't care what anyone says they will vote for the bill. I am going to do all in my power to vote them all out when they come up for reelection.

What they are doing is blatantly unconstitutional. 'We the People' should file a class action law suit against this bill and the way it is being pushed through.

    31. Francisco, Bandera, says:

It's been a year since "obama" was sworn in as "president". In that time it has

become clear that "he" did not intend to follow the will of the people and neither

do the "cronnies" he has put in place around him. Where has self determination

gone??? Where has the "American Dream" disappeared to? It seems that every

one has forgotten that the "Democrats" with their majority have been in control

since "clinton". President Bush only got us into debt to the tune of 8 billion dollars during his prescideny. In 6 months "obama" surpassed that and doubled

it and continues to add to the "national debt". We are already facing trillions in

debt and our children and their children will have to pay it off, if they can. Each

succeeding generation will add to it, that is certain. It will have started here with

      our consent.

    32. L.C.Lawless Eaglevil says:

remember what it says in the Declaration of Independence, government becomes destructive,it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it. Congress can put that in there pipe and smoke it.( i mean the dems.)

    33. L.C.Lawless Eaglevil says:

      K. Jarvis Remember the pay 40% of the fed.taxes,go look it up you will learn someting.

    34. L.C.Lawless Eaglevil says:

K .Jarvis sorry i left out the Rich.

    35. bigdave, ocala fl says:

Hey Americans, how does it feel to be like the JEWS marching meekly to the gas chambers? It is so amazing to me that any JEW, like a Jon Stewart or a Barbara Streisand can be a democrat/socialist/samething. I have always admired the Jews and stood behind them, and my ethnicity is LEBANESE!!! The democrats are NOT FOR ISRAEL!!! In this country you can make any remark you want to a Jew…try doing that to a muslim, a people SWORN to KILL EVERYONE NOT LIKE THEM, OR LIKE THEM AS THEY DO NOW, THEY DON'T REALLY CARE. You will be arrested for a hate crime! Yet they can preach on the street to KILL AMERICANS. SHEEPLE LED TO THE SLAUGHTER…YOU DESERVE IT! OBAMACARE will lead to a war.

    36. Sue From Detroit says:

Congress and the White House does not care what we (americans) want. We are an annoyance to the political class. Serfs shut up and work to pay the taxes and put up and do not complain or interfer with any thing the leaders want to do.

    37. JD, real world says:

      Questions, Ken

Is it true that heath care is not available to all in the US?

No. Medicaid, emergency rooms, clinics are available.

Is it true that the only answer to reforming health care (which we all want to do) is creating yet another bloated gov't entitlement?

No. We can't pay for the one's we have now. There is not one sucess story you can point to.

Is it true that the American people want this reform as currently presented?

No. By a margin of 2 to 1, by some polls 3 to 1.

Is it true that at this moment, worst economic conditions since the Depression, that healthcare reform is our most important problem?

No. Jobs are more important. Far more people are in crisis from lack of a job then by lack of insurance. Our huge deficit is a bigger problem. This bill adds to it, not reduces it.

Is it true that this administration is desperately trying to subvert our constitutional processes?

Yes. All Presidents have sometimes been forced to give up on something due to Constitutional limits on their authority.

What we have are the desperate, hopefully unsucessful, attempts by a corrupt, secretive, partisan, lying administration to force on the nation something we do not want and which has not being formulated in accordance with our laws. They are loathesome and a cancer on our country.

Even Democrats, most of whom are good Americans, need to step back and look at what's happening. This is not our way, this is un-American. This is textbook behavior of ego driven tyrants.

    38. Gayle Kindall 94553 says:

The more concoctions they come up, the more they compromise their

credibility and I hope everyone who helps pass this bill, if they do God forbid,

      loses the seat.

    39. Harker Heights, Texa says:

It is abundantly clear that "We the People" are being spat upon by the totalitarian statists who have taken over our governent. It is no longer government "of the people and FOR the people", but government by totalitarianism…. You people are our pawns to do with as we please, and we don't give a damn how you feel or what you want. In fact, we so DESPISE you people, that we are going to bypass all the laws of the House and Senate to pass something so despicable that it will keep you peons in check for as long as we want to stay in power.

Obama and his Democrat minions are creatures from Hell, bound and determined to destroy our freedoms at any cost to keep and bolster their power. What I want to know is, who is REALLY pulling the strings of all this? What power is behind the evil people in Washington that is encouraging the Dems to trample all over the American people?

I have never been so terrified of government in my life….and that is the definition of totalitarianism…when people are AFRAID of government. If government is afraid of the people and what they want, then we have a Republic. Obama and the Democrats are cheerfully damning our Republic and flipping us off while they do it.

      God Help Us All!!

    40. John Lynch Sr. says:

How can someone who is not a citizen sign anything into a law? They are trying to CHANGE the UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION to suit themselves and make everyone bow down to THEIR LAWS. NOT what WE want BUT WHAT THEY WANT AND DEMAND OF ALL OF US BUT THE PEOPLE MUST STAND UP AND BE COUNTED< TELL THEM HELL NO WE WANT GO.

    41. John Lynch Sr. says:

IMPEACH THISFake and all the REST of our ENEMIES in OUR government that do not understand that We THE PEOPLE ARE THE BOSS> GET THEM IN COURT FOR TREASON.

    42. Blair, Franconia, NH says:

It's time we showed Congress and Obama who has the whip. It's not the government

anymore——it's the people. Back in the day, government officials from the President

on down, were called "public servants." Why? Because they were expected to serve

their masters——the public. Now they're public masters——and they expect us to serve them. Not anymore. No way, nowhere, no how. NO WAY IN HELL! The Constitution is a living document because we can amend it. The minute we cease to

amend it, it will die. Obamacare, on its face, is unconstitutional, and unconscionable.

There's a reason we fought the Revolutionary War. It was over what? If you remember your elementary, or junior high, U.S. History, it was over taxation without

representation. The British Crown wanted us to finance their debt after the French and

Indian War, (Seven Years' War in Europe, so they passed the Stamp Act, the Intolerable Acts, and a tax on tea, You all know what happened. According to America Rock, we turned Boston Harbor "into the biggest cup of tea in history."

What will future generations of Americans think of the Tea Party Movement?

Will they think they're a bunch of wingnuts? Or will they think they're just average

Americans who are petitioning their government for redress of grievances? Obamacare isn't good for the country? Need proof? Look at Britain and Canada.

    43. ckirkland says:

Kevin Habib, did you actually read what you wrote that you want to destroy this country as it is and "transform" it into something that is right out of the Socialist playbook? If you don't like America I will gladly help to buy you a ticket to the country of your choice that has Socialized medicine.

    44. bigdave, ocala fl says:

Nancy Pelosi made a PROMISE to "drain the swamp"…we are still waiting for the SWAMPTHING to make good on her promise!

    45. craig says:

This bill represents a huge step forward for Socialist Dictatorship[ and 2 huge steps backward for the Republic and the freedoms it stands for!

    46. Denise Utah says:

Maybe the reason Obama does not seem concerned about job losses and unemployment is that with more and more Americans losing jobs, the more desperate they will become about losing their health care through their employers. Then people will support his Obamacare.

    47. bigdave, ocala fl says:

Did you folks not read Obama's bible, "Rules For Radicals"?! This is so simple. Make everyone poor then they are DEPENDENT on the government! And you accomplish that through LIES and DRUMMED UP CRISIES. Quite simple, especially since liberals have been dumbing down your children for YEARS! They believe the crap thrown at them by Hollywood, the News Media and Obama…all socialists for some odd reason, as if they will all be IMMUNE! And, TWO TRILLION DOLLARS HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM THE US TREASURY AND NOBODY KNOWS WHERE IT WENT!! Way to go AMERICA!!! CONTINUE TO BEND OVER!!! WE GET WHAT WE DESERVE!

    48. Angelamarie says:

Each and every member who sign this healthcare bill will leave their family, and children's families with the legacy that their mom/dad ruined the best country ever. It will be their "Scarlet Letter" ("C" for corruption) to wear for the rest of their lives. They will be looked upon as a modern day Benedict Arnold.

The Democratic Congress should be ashamed of themselves for accepting the job to represent their constituents, and then just do whatever they are told, or bribed to do. They are a disgrace to not only their families, but to America.

    49. Angelamarie, CT says:

    50. Ruth, St. Helena Isl says:

      First: Quotes from Thomas Jefferson-

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not"

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them"

"My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government"

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government"

"To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical"

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property – until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered"

SECOND: Quotes from Barack Obama from his Book 'DREAMS OF MY FATHER' (recognized by DOMF) and 'THE AUDACITY OF HOPE' (recognized by AOH)

      (to be continued)

    51. Ruth, St. Helena Isl says:

      Barack Obama Quotes continued-

DOMF: "I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites"

DOMF: "I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race"

DOMF: "There was something about her that made me wary, a little too sure of herself, maybe and white. . "

DOMF: "It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names"

DOMF: "I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was my father's image, the black man, son of Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself: the attributes of Martin (Rev. Martin Luther King), and Malcolm (Malcolm X), Dubois (W.E.B. Dubois) and Mandela (Nelson Mandela)."

AOH: "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction"

      (to be continued)

    52. Ruth, St. Helena Isl says:

Since Medicare and Medicaid is already under the jurisdiction of the government, let them establish large clinics; on one side is Medicare-on the other Medicaid. Both of these should be overseen by one or two established physicians at a decent salary and the business of both should be overseen by someone who has been trained by the FBI to see to it that no abuse is perpetrated. Both clinics should be staffed with senior medical students as part of their rotation, Interns, residents; Physicians Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Medical office personel as part of their training and as part of their grade toward graduation. Being part of an educational situation would negate having to pay them, saving the government trillions of dollars.

Give doctors their right to practice as they did before Medicare was foisted on them in 1960, forcing them to adhere to the everchanging rules that were handed down.

Make it a necessity for insurance to cross state lines.

Tort reform- A MUST!!!! And in only half a page.

      THE END

    53. jim says:

I wonder, how much planned parenthood paid into the re-election fund for the progressives to take such a stupid stand? Like the unions and other activist groups, the complete plan has been designed by them for their agendas at a steep cost.Big government takeover creates permanent union jobs all over the USA even though they are bankrupting the country just like Greece.Maybe, the congress will wake up and realize 21% progressives do no make up a majority in voters all over the country.

    54. Larry Arendas says:

Could everyone opposing the disaster of Obamacare please refrain from using the" Progressive" label the Dems want to use to avoid the stigma of being "liberals"? There is nothing progressive about substituting socialism for democracy.

    55. Ken, Fl. says:

If this Democrate farce does go thru, where does the U>S> Supreme Court stand, on protecting this country, on the balance of power and us the people they all supposedly serve. Remember,We do not serve our governmnt, they serve us.

    56. Ruth, St. Helena Isl says:

STOP PAYING YOUR TAXES- they can't and won't do anything without money.

    57. toledofan says:

It's just hard to understand; the majority of Americans don't want this, the economy is on the brink of even more disaster, globally, unemploymnet is over 10%, and we set a record with adding to the deficeit in February. So, what's the point, are the Democrats that far out in left field, do they really not care about the country and the citizens, are they all that arrogant to think they are better than we are? I guess in the long run, the Democrats are making themselves extinct. Their choice, their actions and their inactions will do them in. They own this debacle and will pay the political price in November. It's clear to me these people can't be trusted with managing the government, the economy, or the military.

    58. Harry, Illinois says:

      My question is this.

With the exception of certain circumstances, we will not be eligible for any benefits for at least 4 years. In the mean time where is all the money going to be held???? Is it going to be in a "LOCK BOX" a TRUST FUND??? No mention of this has been made as far I know. All one has to do it look at Social Security, Medicare & Medicad.. Congress allowed for the dumping of Social Security Funds into the GENERAL FUND in order to sponsor other programs and WARS, with no regard for the future consequences.

Now look where these programs are. On the verge of if not bankrupt.

Remember, these people have no shame. They will come back at the end of the 4 years telling us that they need higher taxes because the program does not have sufficient revenues. Remember, it's going to cost a lot of money to establish a beauracratic system such as this. And where is that money going to come from?????

They use the cover of less fortunate people as an excuse to pass a program that is doom from the very beginning.

Healtcare should be a State by State mandate, where it can meet the needs of their demographics and be more closely monitored and controlled rather then from the Federal level which has proven time and time again, that they cannot control waste and fraud. This path would also create more locally sponsored jobs rather then from the Federal level. Yes, I realize that some states have Health Care which are having problems. But if they are having problems instituting these programs, how do you think the Federal Government wiil be successful???

    59. Lloyd Welch says:

K Jarvis and Habib will not listen to anything based in sanity and reason. I engaged in e-mail debate with Mr. Jarvis for a week or so and he is an admited socialist. His insanity advocates government control of utilities, he is opposed to free enterprise and I don't care to remember what all else. I think most true Americans are opposed to this debate to come to blows but if that is the way they want it then let it be. One thing left out of arguements I see here is that it is not only our right to cast off a government that does not recognise our rights it is our DUTY. I think socialist believe that we will not fight to perserve our constitution that we will just silently allow them to do what ever they want to do and accept it. They are wrong. Americans are buying guns and ammunition to the point that some ammo is on a six month waiting period. Do they not know why this is so? Wheather they know it not socialist are lighting the fires of a new revolution. I know I for one will readily bleed on the flag to keep the strips red.

    60. Robert Chalmers Fris says:

I don't see how the Slaughter method can possibly pass the sniff test… it stinks. It is such a flagrant violation of Article 1, Section 7 of the Constitution, that I don't know how it can even be seriously considered… especially by lawmakers! To do so shows absolutly no resolve by the Democrat's in Congress to follow the oath that each of our representatives swore to uphold.

I have a feeling that the U.S. Supreme Court will soon get the opportunity to say "thank you" for the cordial way they were treated by the President and the Democrats in Congress during the State of the Union Address. At least I hope so.

    61. Lee White Tanks AZ says:

It is a national embarrassment and tragedy that few Americans understand the importance of this final sentence in this article.

"No one can say if this bill will finally pass, but if it does, it is abundantly clear that our republican form of government will be permanently damaged by it."

Permanent and monumental are really interchangeable in this instance.

      PC is Thought Control

    62. V.T.Turk says:

People have to be told and retold that The United States of America can only continue to exist if voters “VOTE” on designated election days especially the primary election days! Able bodied voters who do not vote during the “weeding them out phase” of the election process give the liberals tremendous extra power come time for the main election days. The liberals know this is true and they will continue to enable Obama and his kind to continue in power! Thomas Jefferson said,” unless voters keep an eye on their represenatives the represenatives will become represenatives of themselves and not the voters back home”. This tragedy has excelled in both parties for 40 years and Obama’s win glorified it. We must vote out any bad Rep. when able. Vote people VOTE!

    63. nancy, MS says:

Never have I felt so betrayed by our government, yet I remember it is written in the Bible, God says we are to put our faith and trust in no man, other than Christ. Well, we’ve turned our back on God and here we stand…alone, used by every movement of civil society, and allowed our government to take God out of our schools and government buildings, and almost, our churches. What else should we expect. We are at the end of ourselves and there is no where to turn But God!!! He said He will never leave us or forsake us, but we surely have forsaken Him. Who do we have leading our country? Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and the Obama team of socialists. Let us fall to our knees and ask Our God to please forgive us and restore our Nation, and turn our hearts toward Him. I almost smell the sweet aroma of Christ.

    64. nancy, MS says:

Why has it taken so long to approve my comment?

    65. Drew Page, IL says:

To C. Kirkland — I will be glad to chip in toward the cost of Mr. Habib's one-way ticket to the socialist country of his choice.

And to Mr. Jarvis — Would you be so good as to provide all of us here with your definition of "the rich". Is it anyone who makes $20,000 a year more than you do? Is it the guy you work for, assuming you have a job? Or is it that you just object to anyone who is smarter than you, or who works harder than you, or who takes more risks than you do and thereby EARNS more than you?

What would make you happy Mr. Jarvis? When would you feel that you were being treated fairly? Would it be when the government confiscates the money and property of every person in the U.S., until no one has anything more than you? Or is that not enough? Would it be when all the businesses in the country are taxed out of existence? Or would it when all the rest of us pay all your bills for you?

    66. Tocqueville, VA says:

Kevin Habib and Ken Jarvis: I marvel at those who would keep talking health care nonsense hoping that Americans would be lost in the sea of overwhelming deceitful words they spew. Unfortunately for them, people are blissfully awake and know that this so-called “health care” boondoggle being forced on us is a gigantic step toward big government’s plan to control our lives. I can only pray for those nonsense-talkers’ speedy awakening to the truth as I fervently pray for the survival of my country’s freedoms.

    67. Linda, Louisiana says:

I do believe that President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid are not the Three Blind Mice – they know that the majority of the American People do not want any kind of govenment-run health care. They just think the American People are too stupid to know what is good for us and for this Great Country. I have given considerable thought to why Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are so set on passing some kind of health care bill, even one that hasn't been written. How stupid can a person, or 3 people be. Obama just cannot believe he can be wrong, that he can fail. Is he pushing Pelosi and Reid's buttons? Or is someone pushing all of their buttons setting the base toward destroying this Nation? I'm not concerned about how the next elections will turn out; will the Democrats lose their majority. I'm concerned about what is happening right now, every day. Lord help us all; it looks like those 3 individuals are driving us to Hell in a HandBasket, Remember prayer can be our Salvation. God is in Control. Please God, show your Control before it is too late for the United States of America.

    68. Linda, Louisiana says:

      P. S. Does Obama read the Morning Bell comments. If he doesn’t, he should, also Pelosi and Reid, and all of Congress.

    69. Matthew C , Santa Barbara , Ca. says:

Picture millions of, people with pitchfork and torches converging on Washington ……. THAT is precisley what this whole insane mess is going to result in , and justifiably so. The actions of the hopelessly arrogant self serving progressive liberal Democrats goeway beyond description and reason. The Obama Administration is destroying this country deliberately and by design. Their unmitigated disdain towards this country and it’s constitution renders all logical discussions of policy a moot point . Like the Big Bama said , time for talk is over ………

    70. Judy, MA says:

I went online on MSNBC on their several polls and the percentage was extremely high against Obamacare. Now tell me what you think? Well, this media outlet is far left. Correct?

    71. Judy, MA says:

Sounds like the far left do not want it either. Open your ears Obama. Or are you saying “Shut up and Put up”. I’ve never witnessed in my life such an arrogant Administration. “Corrupt”.

    72. Charlotte O'Har says:

I have an editorial cartoon I would like to submit on this issue, how do I accomplish this?
