  • Is Global Warming Really A Bigger Threat than Iran?

    Pentagon (Photo by Newscom)

Over the past year, Iran has declared itself a nuclear state and continues to expand their ballistic missile program, Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair has testified to Congress that Al Qaeda and its affiliates are planning a large-scale attack on American soil within the next six months, and failed Flight 253 Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab has told the FBI that he met with other English speakers at a terrorist training camp in Yemen.

Meanwhile, the scientist at the center of Climategate now tells BBC News that there has been no statistically significant rise in temperature in the past fifteen years and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has been forced to admit their 2007 report substantially overstated global warning’s impact on glacier loss, hurricane damage, and African crop failure.

So how is the Obama Administration focusing our precious national security resources? Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Reserve (rtd) explains in The Telegraph:

Under American law, every four years the US Defence Department must present to Congress a comprehensive review of the security threats and challenges to America. The security picture presented in the review provides the justification for planning and creating the appropriate military forces and capabilities. The Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) is supposed to be a non-partisan and objective strategic document – free of partisan politics. … Last week the Defense Department released the 2010 QDR. It is a remarkable document.

However, it’s not what is in the document that surprises the reader – it’s what was left out. There presence of two elephants in their living room apparently escaped the notice of American’s top civilian and military leaders. Islamic radicalism does not receive any mention whatsoever in the American Defense Review and the threat posed by a nuclear Iran is mentioned in only one general sentence at the end of a document (page 101). To put this lack of discussion in proportion, contrast this non-discussion with other security issues mentioned in the document. For example, the security effects of climate change are highlighted and discussed in depth in eight pages of the document.

In late January [President Obama] demanded that Congress cut $2.5 billion from the defense budget for the purchase of C-17 transport planes. Obama declared the money for military transport was “waste, pure and simple”.

Of course, “waste” is a matter of interpretation. No one says that the C-17 is a bad aircraft or doesn’t do its job very effectively. In fact, it’s probably the best and safest large transport plane in the world today, and has done sterling service in Afghanistan and Haiti. But, according to Obama’s Pentagon officials, there is just no need to maintain such a large military transport fleet. If the Pentagon’s own assessment determines that there are not too many threats out there – and you can do that if you ignore minor things like Iranian nuclear weapons and the radicalisation of millions of followers of Islam – then you can feel safe in cutting defense expenditures and free up even more money for the President’s domestic agenda.

It’s a neat political trick to ignore the elephants in your living room. But Obama is making a huge gamble and betting the lives and security of Americans that these particular elephants will remain perfectly behaved for the next four years.

      Support the Iranians

      By JanSuzanne Krasner

On February 11th, 2010, I attended the Heritage Foundation’s Discussion and Dinner hosted by the NY Area Committee for Heritage. The two guest speakers at the discussion, Dr. Matthew Spalding and James Jay Carafano, Ph.D. and the featured dinner speaker, John Stossel, all spoke with a heartfelt love of our country and for the principles we stand for. Their message was clear:

“Now is the time to act worthy and stand up for our country.”

One thing is certain, the greatness of America is based on our ability to ‘fearlessly speak’ and fight for our principles. By comparison we see pro-Democracy Iranians rising up against their Totalitarian regime. What a great contrast! The Iranians are dealing with a government that thinks nothing of having them killed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards who think nothing of killing them. Many Americans believe the Iranian struggle is noble and empathize with their fight for freedom and democracy. Many Americans also believe we should be helping the Iranian people. Obama’s ‘talking policy’ has actually emboldened President Ahmadenejad and the Mullahs to ignore negotiations, agreements and sanctions while continuing their uranium enrichment program and silencing the protestors.

But, Iran’s pro-Democratic movement will not be silenced. There already are signs of a division in the Islamic Republic. We also see Hillary Clinton bravely speaking out against the Regime. Times are brewing for the Iranian Democratic movement to find the cracks in their abusive regime’s power and seize the opportunity to end this destabilizing, military dictatorship. Time is also right for Americans to be outspoken. Two Republican Senators introduced a Bill called “Iran Democratic Transition Act of 2010”. This proposed legislature states that it should be the US policy to support the Iranian people in their efforts to oppose and remove the current regime and replace it with a freely elected Democratic government. It also provides a program for direct, non-military assistance to achieve this goal.

One of the authors of the Bill, Republican Senator Brownback said, "The biggest problem with Iran is not weapons or terrorism, but the regime itself." This bill can help protect the human rights of the Iranian people in a non-military capacity. It can bring about a transition towards Democracy and can stop the quest for nuclear missiles, all from within Iran. This will free Israel and the US from having to strike at Iran’s development of nuclear missiles. This will stop Iran’s dictators from seeking dominance in the Middle East Region. Therefore, let's show our support to Hillary. And should our President continue with his ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ attitude, it is the duty of Congress to stand up and ‘take actions worthy of our country’… and it is for our principles that ‘We The People’ need to bravely stand up for our country.

Beautifully written, jansuzanne Krasne. It also makes sense that what is within man's control, destroying human life, is the THREAT and should not exist and can be stopped.

global warming isn't within man's control. Therefore should only be looked at to establish businesses to innovate protection from global warming, cooling, global climate change, otherwise known as WEATHER. WITHOUT GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION!

I don't trust Obama or any of his administration… there is something grave behind anything good obama spews.

Global warming isn't a threat at all. It only exists in the climategate computer models and not in the real world. However the so call solutions, AKA:taxes, are a major threat to nations economy. To bad the only solution the pentagon has to the global warming threat is to fire some missals across the river and take out all those pushing the global warming scam agenda.

    5. DublD says:

Though many Americans may not believe it, there are actually more than two possible choices in most of the political decisions that are made in this country. But regrettably the "either / or" decisions we are constantly presented with thorugh our two party system serve only to strengthen both parties through partisan polarization while failing to do our country its proper service.

So here's a third position that neither Democrat nor Republican will propose.

      DO NOTHING

We CANNOT attack Iran. This military knucklehead would love nothing more than to send your children on a suicide mission because that's what he's been brainwashed to think for 30+ years. But Iran is capable and on a track to ousting Ahmedinijad out of their own desire for social advancement, and nothing would be better for the world than for this to happen organically. A US attack on the other hand would validate Ahmedinijad and all the nasty things he's up to, unite the country beihind a nationalist position and ruin our chances of having favorable alliances with Iran and Iraq and the best possible scenario for rooting out al-Quaeda efficiently instead of by invading sovreign nations. Plus we'll need both countries when Pakistan goes rogue which may be any day.

Second thing, THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING. It literally doesn't exist, never did. There is not a single verifiable principle in the entire theory that can be rectified with the known laws of energy and thermodynamics or even that which we can observe. If some amount of latent heat of our own creation, enough to cook us all to parchment, that is hiding out there, we'd be able to see it. Conservation of energy is the fundamental law of all science from Chemistry to quantum mechanics, so this energy should be abundant and easy to verify. Instead scientists have had to cook the books to just to claim there is any at all, and immediately after that it started snowing in Florida. But like the Retired General, Obama has been indoctrinated for 20+ years too. And by the very same left-fringe powers that ultimately got him elected. So acknowledging these facts is not an option for him. Unfortunately compromising our military to fight a fabricated threat is not an option for us. This leaves only one option: Obama has to go. But when he's gone I implore you not to vote for another DemoPublican. We cannot advance as a people as long as our politicians and media lock us into these dilemmas of diversion, scaremonger us with fabricated problems, while creating real ones oblivious to their own recklessness. The two party system has steered our country to its current state of disarray. For the same morons that got us here to be claiming that attacking Iran or fighting global warming are our only two options as a nation is dispicible. THINK FOR YOURSELF, then vote the whole lot of these bums out…

I'm not so sure that Iran hitting California with a missle would be comparable to the amount of damage the liberals intend to exact on American soil through the fraud of global warming and their policies supporting the fraud. California has heaped disgrase upon America with it's socialist govt. for too long. let California fail as a testament to its failed socialist govt..

    7. S Rubicon, Southcent says:

Deciding to cut funding for C-17 aircraft based on a belief that we can "feel safe in cutting defense expenditures and free up even more money for the President’s domestic agenda", could work out in freeing up funds for some domestic programs.

However, the issue is not that we could cut the funding for defense related projects in this budget, & not be safe. The issue is, can we make these cuts and maintain these cuts, and then be able to respond to future issues where such aircraft or other defense related items could have been of an advantage to us?

I do not say we cannot afford to make some cuts now. I say, we cannot make these cuts now & then in the future fail to readdress or revisit these issues, since by then we will have a better understanding or view of the needs for such equipment.

If we cut these now, I fear they will never again come up in an Obama budget. Once that money is used for social change or redistributive purposes, I suspect it will never again be available according to the proponents of a social change agenda.

It is somewhat disturbing that our military planners are kowtowing to a political plan of a totally unexperienced POTUS. This presidents advisor's have what I believe is a visceral hatred of American military might. Despite the humanitarian abilities those brave men & women have demonstrated on numerous occasions of disaster around the world, many liberals still want to put an end to almost any American military capacity.

In addition to those fears or concerns, is the fear or concern that enormous sums of money (taxpayers money that was hard earned & taken by a government w/a voracious appetite for taxpayers money), will go to what are termed needed or necessary social change projects. Our recent experience with these projects & the organizations that benefit from the distribution of those taxpayer funds, is they have a horrible track record in responsibly disbursing those funds. In short, a lot goes in but very little of constructive value comes out. And, there are many situations where great sums of money have been misused, stolen, directed to programs or uses they were never intended to support.

Social change is a nice idea. However, when government runs it or controls those who run it, we always see many examples of misuse of taxpayers funds. The last thing we need is to see our hard earned dollars go to corrupt ultra politically partisan radicals. Lets face it, ACORN is NOT an example of how to spend taxpayers money effectively! And there are many organizations like ACORN who will be beneficiaries of these social change programs liberals like Obama are pushing on us!

    8. Mike Winsauer, Kings says:

The seemingly illogical decisions described in the above article are not mistakes at all! They are clearly well planned steps of the progressives in our government to undermine the security of the American people and our country and make us vulnerable to further attacks and "crisis' that they will not want to "waste" (to help them bring) the U.S. to its knees and further the cause of socialism here

I pray every day that our country will survive the destructive agenda or our president and the other progressive anti-American people in his administration. Only the American people, with the help of God can stop this madness.

If someone challenged me to destroy the values, ideals and economic system that have allowed us to become the greatest nation on this earth, I would be doing all the things Obama and his administration is doing. And I would continue to tell the people that "I am doing everything I can to help you poor unsophisticated wretches"! May God save the United States!
