  • What Obamacare and the NHS Have in Common

As US legislators continue to advance the largest expansion of government control over health care in the US, many Americans may need some comic relief. Although such massive consolidation of federal control over health care is by no means a laughing matter, the following 2-minute clip from a popular BBC Documentary Series “Yes, Minister” illustrates the ridiculousness of the efforts.

This not an entirely trivial story contrived for political satire; in fact, even early this year, the 2009 opening to an NHS hospital was canceled until “early 2010” for among other items not being able to “[control] the heat of the floor in some parts of the hospital.” In 2008, a survey by the (British) Health Care Commission found that roughly 11 million hospital meals were simply wasted. Moreover, the Taxpayers’ Alliance in England, find that “misguided directive[s]” lead to a “total waste of NHS resources”, and most importantly, divert global health care resources “at a time when people are struggling to get life-saving operations and medication”.

While the US healthcare system is not (yet) the socialized health care system of the British NHS, Obamacare does continue a massive transfer of regulatory power in the health care and health insurance markets to the federal government. In the attempt to bring more equity into the US health care system by granting the federal government even greater power, even an advanced socialized health care system faces great concerns of inequality. This is highlighted best by Steve Webb, MP and Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, stating of the NHS that “health inequalities still run deeply through our society. People still face an unfair postcode lottery in accessing health services across the country, which bears little relation to need. Health needs around the country would be best met by democratic community bodies giving local people a direct say in the services they need.”

This underscores the gravity of the current health reform debate in the US where the federal government has progressively consolidated regulatory and financing power in health care for the last 30 years. Rather than moving more towards a decentralized system that many in Britain now want (and polls have shown US voters want) US legislators want to centralize more of the power in Washington.

    1. DANIEL CABRERA, INDI says:

I SENT THIS TO MANY,MANY EXTEMISTS-LIBERAL DEMOCRAT SITES IN THE NET, ALL TV NETWORKS (SERIOUS AND TABLOIDS), TO THE YELLOW PRESS (NEW YORK TIME, HUFFINGTON POST, ETC) AND TO ALL PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON …AND THEY HATE MY GUTS;____

There is a train of thought among the extreminst-liberal democrat factions that enunciates, that although they expect some house sites are going to be lost for 2010 , that does not constitute much for "..the public will concentrate their attention to ECONOMY AND NOT TO THE HEALTH CARE ISSUE…"

I looks that – 'as time pass, the public will let go the FRAUD, BRIBE, DECEPTIONS, MANIPULATIONS….and mostly THE ANTI-CONSTITUTIONALISM that brings as result the current plateau where or contry is currently at.

From where I stand , that assumption is erroneous because the american electorate is not a fool one (as many democrats think we are),…and for 2010 and 2012 the ALERTNESS' for future electoral procedures are to be concentrated on – not only in ECONOMY – but at the whole tapestry at hand…meaning, HEALTH CARE SCAM, GLOBAL WARMING SCAM, ECONOMY DETERIORATION (which is not at fashionable point, no matter how much 'fuzy math', manipulation of data and others devious practices they will try), and also will be following closely NATIONAL SECURITY.

So you see, more than ever (and they fear – THE TRAITORS – monumentally), WE,THE PEOPLE are to be very alert for FRAUD, DISHONESTY, LACK OF INTEGRITY, DECEPTION, …LIE UPON LIE, for none of that is going away any time soon.

Anyone can remember that prior Obama was named 'president', Obama was pushing Bush for to start the obnoxious stimuls directed to the car industries (…."as soon as possible..")…everyone remebers the dynamics with POULSEN,and GEITHNER (as 'right hand on the design' at that point),… when a blank check was asked to …"with no questions asked…",… THE BARNEY FRANK EVENT (FANNIE & FREDDIE)along with the cover-up team – (REID,PELOSI,COX, DOOD, JOHNSON…and others weeds),…not to mention the thieves crooks that got away with over 90 BILLIONS! – to mention two of them; RAINES and O'NEAL.

But that was virtually the begining…now we have a conglomerate of TAX CHEATERS, MORE THIEVES AND CROOKS, SOCIALISTS-MARXIST / COMMUNISTS…in others words A PACK OF INDIVIDUALS WITH TREASON WRITTEN ALL OVER…are they not?

In conclussion, although the democrat-school of thougt is ."….the public will eventually forget …and let it go…"..the REALILTY IS OTHERWISWE…is it not?

Exactly!; WE, THE PEOPLE WILL START THE REMOVAL OF TRAITORS ON 2010 AND BY 2012,… PUT IN PLACE LEADERS OF GOOD CHARACTER, INTEGRITY, COMMON SENSE, HONESTY….PEOPLE RELIABLE THAT WE CAN COUNT ON…and that is to happens unless, A MASSIVE MEGA-IMPEACHMENT DOES NOT MATERIALIZE FIRST AS RESULT OF A POWERFUL INVESTIGATIVE TASK FORCE THAT WILL BRING DOWN THE ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE / ENEMIES OF THE STATE / THE TRAITORS = THE ANTI-CONSTITUTIONAL, ANTI-AMERICAN, CHICAGO MAFIA-STYLE CORRUPTED OBAMA GANG.

      Correct on that one?

    2. Richard Myers, Camp says:

Would't we all just love it if all of these liberal charlatans were driven out of Washington in the successive elections to come by the informed, outraged electorate?! I'll believe it when I see it. There are too many people out there who still feel these folks (jokes) they elected to office are the greatest thing ever and they are saving us from the destuction that would come at the hands of the evil GOP. It was just overheard the other day at my wife's work from a staunch Dem supporter when it was obvious that Obamacare was going to advance to the next step, "that they just could not wait until the FREE healthcare started". Our American voters….

One can only hope and pray someone will wake up before all is lost.

    3. Tricia, Arizona says:

      Correct, Daniel. I'm with you.

    4. Gary Unruh,seal beac says:

Daniel–hope you get your Wish!!!WE need too take this Country Back..Keep your eye's on what the Shadow Gov.(Czar's)are doing and changing the Infrastructure

    5. Judy, cape cod says:

Daniel, right on! Didn't these politians pledge an oath. They are traitors. They should all be sent packing and don't let the door hit you in the A—. God Bless America & Raise our Beautiful FLAG.

    6. Virgil Evans, Ventur says:

One of the most extraordinary things is that most liberals are deeply cynical about institutions, with the exception of the federal government. Their breakdown in logic exempts this particular form of centralized power, the very one that has such a poor record in areas such as frugal and efficient use of funds and reliable delivery of services. Once they begin to make trips to the land of Obamacare for procedures and they learn the appropriate lessons in medical misery, all-embracing cynicism will finally be theirs.

    7. British and proud says:

I'm sorry? "Yes, Minister" is a WHAT?? O_o

I'm afraid you're misleading your readers, there, old boy. It's a comedy. A lampoon of reality…as is your article on what the NHS is…. Utter fail.

Also, The Daily Mail (nicknamed the Daily Phail here, for good reason) is somewhat akin to the American "National Enquirer" – borderline racist, often hysterical over-emphasising the negative in order to sell more comi…copies of itself….Not to be taken anywhere near as seriously as it does itself.
