Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) attempted to force a vote this Wednesday on an amendment that if adopted will ban the practice of trading earmarks for votes in the Senate. As even President Obama-friendly MSNBC has documented, Sen. Ben Nelson’s (D-NE) Cornhusker Kickback was not the only backroom deal that enabled the Senate’s passage of Obamacare. Watch:

Other details documented by MSNBC’s Lisa Myers:

Sen. Chris Dodd’s (D-CT) $100 million for a Connecticut hospital.

Vermont and Massachusetts got $600 and $500 million respectively for their state Medicaid programs.

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) won a provision that allows 800,000 Florida seniors enrolled in private Medicare Advantage plans to keep their extra benefits.

The American Medical Association got a tax on cosmetic surgery taken out as well as cuts to certain specialties restored.

    3. Mike Jorgensen, Farg says:

The Senate and House are flipping the bird to the people of the United States. The back room deals and buying of votes is outrageously offensive. They obviously don't care what "we the people" think. The people that voted for this scam need to be sent packing. Tell all of your friends. We've got to band together and take our country back. Shame on us for letting these people even occupy these seats of power.

    4. Scott Scarborough, C says:

I thought Nancy Pelosi was going to clean out the swamp, instead she has gotten right into the muck and wallowed for all the filth and mud right up to her neck. And Harry Reid just continues to dig himself deeper. Won’t the American people be happy when they start paying taxes for health care they are NOT GETTING for four more years, at least! Real beauts this Congress! No spine, and certainly drunk on power! They’ve lost their hearing aids and their long range glasses!

My biggest fear is that this is nothing compared to what's coming. Complete socialistic take over-banks=done; schools & universities=done;power & utilities=coming; food control=coming; restructured military= coming;Universal Government=coming; One World Leader – guess who is up for the job?

    11. Jerry from Chicago says:

Apparently, everything and everyone in the Senate is for sale.

The "Cash for Cloture" has wiped away the rather thin veneer of integrity that these people have tried to hide themselves under.

What would really be useful for the American public to know is where these Senators and Representatives get their money, aside from their published salaries. How many Senators and Representatives have spouses and/or children on the payrolls of the firms lobbying Congress? How many retired Congressmen have jobs for lobbyists, or the firms employing lobbyists, that used to lobby Congress when those retired Congressmen were in office? How much government money in the form of 'earmarks', or pork barrel projects, and/ or Stimulus has been sent to companies where relatives of those in Congress have a financial interest, either as employees, officers, directors or major stockholders of these companies?
