  • Morning Bell: Coal for Christmas from the Senate

This morning  just after 7 AM EST, the United States Senate passed, again on a straight party-line vote, President Barack Obama’s health insurance bill. Originally scheduled for a 9 PM vote tonight, the bill’s Senate passage is a welcome Christmas gift for a beleaguered White House. However, as the First Family jets off for Hawaii, the American people, liberals, moderates, and conservatives are all saying this bill is closer to a lump of coal in their stocking than real health care reform.

The American Public Does Not Want This Bill: When the American people first turned their attention to President Obama’s health care plan, bare majorities of the American public told pollsters they supported his health care reform plan. But as the debate wore on, and the American people looked past the rhetoric and examined the details of Obama’s proposal, support for the legislation steadily declined. By mid July, more Americans opposed than supported the plan. Now that the House and Senate have both approved separate versions of the bill, strong majorities of Americans now oppose Obama’s plan.

The Left Does Not Consider This Bill Real Reform: We have already documented the strong opposition figures like former-Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean have to what has come out of the Senate. But now powerful members of the House of Representatives, Democrats with actual votes in Congress, are also voicing their strong objections to the Senate bill. House Rules Committee Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY) wrote on op-ed for CNN yesterday including: “[U]nder the Senate plan, millions of Americans will be forced into private insurance company plans, which will be subsidized by taxpayers. That alternative will do almost nothing to reform health care but will be a windfall for insurance companies. Is it any surprise that stock prices for some of those insurers are up recently? … Supporters of the weak Senate bill say ‘just pass it — any bill is better than no bill.’ I strongly disagree — a conference report is unlikely to sufficiently bridge the gap between these two very different bills. It’s time that we draw the line on this weak bill and ask the Senate to go back to the drawing board. The American people deserve at least that.”

Moderates Are Disgusted by This Bill: Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI), who voted for the House version of Obamacare after getting Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to take taxpayer funding of abortion out of the bill, tells National Review Online: “This shouldn’t be a bill where you use hush money. This isn’t an appropriations bill where you try to get the best projects for your state.  … I’ve spoken with a half-dozen members in the last 48 hours, and they’re all really concerned with the Senate bill. We all agree: We’ve lost our objective with health care. Where you live should have nothing to do with the quality or cost of your coverage.”

Conservatives Want Real Reform: Detailing the increased health costs, the trillions in new spending, the billions in new taxes, the loss of Americans’ current health insurance, and the damage it would do to our national debt, Heritage’s health care team concludes their analysis of the Senate bill: “The Senate bill would impose enormous costs on the American people, totaling at least $2.5 trillion for the first 10 years. After the first 10 years, as costs escalated, Congress would need to impose additional major tax increases and impose major cuts in benefits to pay for this health care agenda. The American people want and need health reform, but the Senate bill is clearly not what they have in mind.”

Do not let this Christmas Eve Senate disaster get you down. There is still hope Obamacare will be stopped. The White House is already downplaying expectations, telling selected media outlets that negotiations between the House and Senate over their major policy differences may slip into February. Considering the House is not back in session till January 12th, the Senate till January 18th, and that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) will need at least a weak to score the bill, the American people will have plenty of time to educate themselves further. So take heart: today’s Christmas Eve vote may just be Obamacare’s high water mark.

    1. Freedom of Speech, T says:

Although it is not proper flag etiquette to fly it at half mast without a federal decree -mine will fly at half staff today…

We have taken another step towards government expansion and thus, the loss of more individual freedoms and liberty.

This has never been about health care "reform" and this legislation proves it.

It is about ever intrusive central government control by elected officials who cut each other favors and money to stay in power. OUR MONEY.

We must fight on, but it does not make it any more palatable. Wealth Redistribution? You bet.

An assault on the Constitution? Most definitely.

    2. Chrissy, Tucson, AZ says:

The sleaze and arrogance of the Democrats leaves me furious and speechless. I take heart in the fact that more debate is necessary before final passage and signing. This has been a shameful year in American politics. I pray that we as a nation can survive with something of our heritage intact.

    3. Dan Shamrock, Knoxvi says:

More examples of what transparency means to a statist, a liberal, a

democrat. They will continue to lie and drink the kool-aid until either they

totally ruin the country or we throw them out.

I know God said that in the end times he would send a delusion, but what I

am seeing is more of a rabid retardation, an embracing of a hallucinatory

image of their grandiose visions of who they think they are. I find it scary

the depth to which these people believe they are doing the right thing. That

they are doing a good thing in the face of persecution by a vicious enemy.

I don't understand how they can't or won't see how wrong it is, what a huge

lie it is, to draft a bill over 2000 pages in length, behind closed doors

(after pledging transparency) and to vote for, much less pass it without

reading it or knowing what is really in it. That it does not bother them one

wit to once again show the public what liars they are. To prove what the

conservatives have been saying about them from the beginning. To saddle even

their own grandchildren with unsustainable debt, to mortgage the lives of

      generations to come.

I guess they don't plan on succeeding in any other thing during this

administration, I would hope they have spent all of their political capital

(unfortunately not yet all of ours) in this one shot, or they have reasoned

in their own minds that they are out of office at next election, so, they

might as well do all they have dreamed of. I know they will continue to

drive towards fulfilling their agenda of disarming this country and

finishing the destruction of the Constitution so they can force their

socialism on society. Now they are hiding in the bills, little hitches that

say once the bill is passed into law, it cannot be repealed later. sounds

like something we should have done to block them a long time ago. Apparently

they don't understand the term "Unconstitutional", that it is not a living

document, that it was written to prevent the exact things they are doing to

      this country.

Sorry, for the rant, but I had to say it.

    4. Bruce, Baltimore mD says:

We should place every Senator and Representative that voted for this obvious violation of the Constitution under citizen's arrest for High Crimes against the Country. That would halt this thing in its tracks

    5. Blair Franconia, NH says:

We, the People, will remember in November. It's time we gave

the Senate some coal in their stockings next Christmas.

    6. Rosanne Reddin Will says:

Now we can have a "new" Holiday Special. It will be called The Socialist (Fascist, if you like) Grinches Who Stole Christmas" Starring Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and a cast of EVERY DEMOCRAT in the SENATE.

This Medical DEform Bill is obscene and UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Totally UnAmerican and SANTA WOULD NOT APPROVE.

    7. carol says:

Have yourself a merry little Christmas

      Let your heart be light

Because from now on your bills will be out of sight

As your budget will become more tight.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas

      Make the Yule-tide gay.

Because next year your troubles will be miles high

As your taxes will be higher than your pay

O how we will wish for olden days,

      Happy golden days of yore.

When our Congress was faithful to the American ways

      And our economy soared.

      But through this year

      Our rights have been lost

A health care fraud was passed at any cost.

      Our money was squandered

So socialistic projects could be funded.

      Our debt was raised

As we watched confused and dazed.

So have yourself a merry lille Christmas NOW!

Because next year it may be illegal

    8. Ron Derry NH says:

      This is an statement that is more true now than ever;

Congress has accepted an abortion as a cure for lack of restraint and good judgment!!

      This is America's defining persona.

We as a nation accept a bill that is an abortion, that no one has read, no one believes in and no one can truthful say what it will accomplish; but we shall surely pay for it.

That is a statement of fruition. Congress has put agenda before reason, agenda before cost and agenda before consequences. We are culminating into a callous, arrogant, agenda driven people with no concern for its affects on our own children.

Its an abortion and it sums up congress at the hands of the left.

    9. Ben C, Ann Arbor says:

Social Security will begin to pay out more than they receive in 2017 as per the Social Security Admintistration. Social Security was never intended to be the retirement program it is now. What my liberal friends fail to realize is that government programs take on a like of their own and become more than intended. This is the problem with the current health care reform bill. For the short term it will merely increase our taxes – in the long term it will change my daughters way of life. My liberal friends tend to think only in the short term. Most long term changes seem to take about thirty years for the unintended consequences to occur. My liberal friends cannot name any government programs that have good unintended outcomes. Can any of the liberal bloggers (Ken Jarvis)help them out?

      Thomas Jefferson noted:

"A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have"

    10. Rhonda, Texas says:

It is so sad this time of year our government is holding us hostage with this healthcare bill the majority of the citizens of the country do not want and our president goes off on vacation like he's a hero. Very disturbing, and Harry Reid says when the senators go home to their constituants they will be so joyful(or whatever word he used). The senate, congress and president are so out of touch with what we want and all we can do is pray they're all voted out of office and we vote in people that really care about America and it's citizens. If this had happened in the private sector people would have been arrested.

    11. Sandy Olnhausen says:

A very Merry Xmas to all the folks at Heritage Foundation that do so much each and every day of the year to report the truth and keep our spirits up! Keep up the good work!

    12. Richard Cancemi, Arl says:

The Democrats are Socialists. We should not be surprised with the Socialist garbage they are tossing at us.

The "Health Care" Bill is only one tree in a forest of socialist bills that have been and still are growing all around us. We must uproot all those 'planting' these "trees of Socialist Bills that have only one purpose. From Obama on down they want to replace America as a free capitalistic country with a Government run Country along Marxists lines.

A pox on all of them!!!

    13. Robert Harkins Colo says:

      THE TRUTH WILL OUT

      By

      ROBERT HARKINS J.D.

The Health Care bill has passed. What have they done? The Democrats have engaged in a constitutional and bipartisan breach of faith. They have demeaned their oath of office with bribery and corruption, with gross and subtle deceits. They have defied the American will. Is there no shame? No, none at all. Senator Harkin said of bribery; it is “Small Stuff;” it is the big picture, he tells us, that counts. Senator Harry Reid said that special treatment (to those who cooperate) is what legislation is all about.

The Democrat House and Senate have passed a bill virtually no one has read. Democrats voting Yea, who approve or are ignorant of its despotic language and intent, know full well they are voting against an American majority, and know full well the damage they will do to the economy, to American freedoms, to this Republic and her Constitution. The President and Democrats in the House and Senate do not believe a word of the deficit-neutral propaganda they have pitched for a year. In fact, they know that the Bill will run enormous deficits as it careens toward bankruptcy. Democrats have said not a word to explain how this Bill will lower health care costs and avoid deficits when the Democrats previous health care interventions, Medicare and Medicaid, are running obscene deficits as they teeter on the edge of bankruptcy.

The Bill is not and will never be deficit neutral. It will not lower the cost of health care. Because Democrats will plunder 400 billion dollars from Medicare, rationing for the elderly is inevitable. The President knows this will be the outcome. Even so, he will sign the Bill. Why not? This is, after all, not about Health Care; it is about the President—a President who has already broken every promise solemnly made to induce Americans to entrust him with the Presidency.

Statutes enacted in medieval English Parliaments contained unlawful and laughable language that sought to enjoin future generations of Parliament from amending or repealing these statutes. The Democrats intend to revive this medieval outlawry.

“Senator Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) pointed out some rather astounding language in the Senate health care bill during floor remarks tonight…. he pointed out that the Reid bill declares on page 1020 that the Independent Medicare Advisory Board cannot be repealed by future Congresses.

What have they done? The Democrats alone have magnified the insensate power of a nearly bankrupt, Welfare State. They have imposed taxes on middle class Americans they cannot, should not and will not tolerate. They have engaged in sophist language to disguise the Bill’s unconscionable impact on American privacy and wealth, property and freedoms.

Americans who despise duplicity hate this bill. They realize they are the targets of its consumptive reach. No one really knows the full measure of the damage it will cause; for how many have read or understand the two thousand pages of its tortuous language, language intended not to inform but to obfuscate? And who will write or read its ten thousand pages of invasive regulations?

Democrats have provoked American anger; they have answered their anger with contempt. There is no need to repeat the defamatory language they have hurled at conservative Americans. We know it too well. Still, Democrats face a grave political crisis. The crisis is that steadily over time the “…truth will come to light; murder cannot be hid long;… but at length the truth will out.”

It is true that Americans are wrathful. But they will express their wrath quietly and with telling force, as is their right, when next they meet at the polls.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! And as Tiny Tim would say,God bless us everyone.

    14. phil, eau claire wi says:

Well, I don't like this bill either. So if nobody likes the bill, then there must be some good to it.

Frankly, I know the president is lying about the costs. So did George Bush lie through his teeth. However, it is nice that, finally, little people like me who have chronic illnesses are going to at least have an ability to purchase affordable insurance, and the big insurance companies will not be able to exclude us.

For years, the rich people always have gotten subsidized by the poor and middle class. Now, that is the way it works in our society. The rich, who mostly back Republicans, always have the dollars to wine, dine, buy prositutes and payoff congress. We poor and middle class do not any where near that kind of power over congress.

Move over Tarp, big company bailouts. Hello help for me.

    15. Prevailer76AZ says:

Nothing is too underhanded to accomplish their agenda and is business as usual for the Democrats. The leadership's lack of scruples is normal M O for getting things done. Threat, reward and punishment. And just let their agenda be theatened and character assassination becomes their focus. All ably abetted by the mainstream media. Case in point: Sarah Palin.

    16. Nancy Leclerc NH says:

      Hello,

I guess I have subscribed to the wrong site,I'm conservative on some things and liberal on others, I guess I would be called an Independent. I support healthcare for all, I don't support abortion, but I do support a womens right to make that decision herself, I didn't and don't support War in Iraq or Afghanistan.I didn't support Greggs Bank Bail out. Especially now that he is going to be the new CEO of Bank of America. So I guess it is time for me to leave your web site. Hope you and your family's have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year.

      sincerely,

On a radio program this mourning the President said he was sent to Washington to Improve our Heatlh care system. He was elected to run the American political system and Protect the American people. The Federal Government is now going to mirror the Former USSR,we are going to lose our freedom. The Health Plan is Unconstitutional & we have to challenge this decision in our court system's now.The way this is set up there will be a culling of the Herd.Like what Sarah Palin refered to during the summer.

    18. Ward Patterson - Sai says:

I have heard it said that the health care bill is unconstitutional. If that is true, then who and when will this bill be challenged on the basis that it is against our constitution??

    19. Joan Sarasota FL. says:

Obama is one hurting our democracy. He does not know what the word means. I'm sure he thinks that third world countries are what democracy means. He seems to love them so much we would be glad to have him move to one. He must take all his clowns with him ,I'm sure we would all gladly buy them all tickets.

    20. Bob Veigel, Arlingto says:

As expected. No news here. Just sad and dangerous when our elected Senator's are doing their best to destroy America, the Nation they are required to lead in a constructive and decent manner as spelled out in our Constitution.

    21. John T. Sewell, Tomp says:

Dear Sirs: It is time that all Americans band together and refuse to pay any taxes for this bill. Since the people had no representation and all of what Obama and the Senate is doing is against the Constitution of the United States. People do not have to abide by laws that are pushed upon them by tyrants. Obama, needs to be brought up on charges (not living up to the Oath he took)and Impeached, this Country can not stand 3 more years of someone that does not care for her and would give his life for her. All the Senators that voted for this bill need to have all of their bank accounts frozen until further review and voted out of office or asked to resign by the people of their states through petitions. I know that the GOP has to be doing that in all the states, please let me know where I can contribute and help. My name is John T. Sewell and I am running for President. Respectfully, John T. Sewell

    22. ken in santa barbara says:

I need only to read many of the comments and articles often found here to realize how necessary it may be to pass an imperfect bill and build upon it to make health care better for every American than to wait for any other side to come up with anything other than pejorative misinformed commentary degrading other human beings.

      Peace on Earth….goodwill to mankind

    23. Ted Moore Grand Pra says:

the newly elected socialist, obama and his band of cronys have taken thier first step in converting America into his dream of a socialist uthopia, all Americans need to take time and pray that this administration fails, and we have enough time to replace these crimminals in 2010 elections. I hope that all Americans have a merry Christmas, and a happy new year, and be ready to fight the socialist in the comeing years. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

    24. Nick, Frankenmuth, M says:

I have a great idea. Let's all just move to the state/states who's senators were "bribed" to vote for this crap. Then we can all enjoy the benefits of obamacare as well as the perks our senators were able to squeak out for us…Right…good job dems, good job…

    25. Jerry Aggson, Tumwat says:

I'm affraid until Americans stop putting the same old hacks back in office, term after term, we will continue to spiral downward as a Country. This is not rocket science people!I'm hearing every day that the American people are outraged with the direction of our Country. Why I ask? Why for the love of God, do we expect anything different, when we don't throw these hacks out on their collective ears? The approval of our illustrous Congress is well below 20%, and yet we continue to send the Shummers, Pelosi's, Kerrys, Snowes, Rangels, Reids, Feinsteins, Boxers, Nelsons, and the like back for another term with a vote of approval. Wake Up America! Its time, log past time to throw the BUMS out! Please!

    26. Freedom of Speech, T says:

      phil, eau claire wi,

I am truly sorry about your chronic condition.

I would never wish an illness on anyone.

However, I was disappointed at your comment, "The rich, who mostly back Republicans, always have the dollars to wine, dine, buy prositutes and payoff congress."

This statement is ludicrous. It is incredulous that you would even believe it. Is it possible that political indoctrination is present? Keyword is "possible"?

The Dems have Billionaire Activist George Soros; virtually all the multi-millionaire celebrity entertainers, the powerful trial lawyers union (they are not exactly poor by definition), and you could fill pages with other personalities let alone politicians.

Well, I don’t like this bill either. So if nobody likes the bill, then there must be some good to it.

As for "prostitutes", that does not even deserve a response.

My view is that no matter what your condition is – our Constitution is more important than any one person. Untold numbers of our military have died, been maimed and crippled for life. They are despised by many far left-wing fruitcakes, whether on college campuses or "tolerant liberal enclaves" throughout the country.

It would be safe to assume that most of them are conservative and thus – Republican, albiet not all. Your analysis of Republicans is ill-informed and silly. Your statement that most of the rich back Republicans is laughable.

I'm glad you're getting the health care you so richly deserve. Merry Christmas.

    27. E Fresquez says:

This new socialist healthcare bill going for the final approval is just another of obama's move to completely take over the American people. he and his cronies from illinois have been allowed by the liberals to give more welfare to the poor. I believe the millions they claim are without healthcare are the millions who have been on welfare all their lives. I do believe that we have an obligation to assist the disabled, but those who are just to lazy to go out and get a job and pay for their own healthcare, should be left to pay for their own stupidity. I know people who chose not to have healthcare because their companies give them the choice of healthcare or a money allowance. They prefer to take the cash allowance and use the Emergency Rooms for health problems. These and welfare recipients are the type of people that make up the millions that the liberals claim are without healthcare. This is a move America will live to regret.

Everyone in the USA had to know this bill was going to pass &

thumbed their noses at it. After all, we know who won the election, and who controls the $$$ (or should I say the lack of

it). "WE THE PEOPLE" know there aren't any "elected ones" we can trust or believe, so why should this be a surprise or "coal for Christmas"? We need to ask: WHERE ARE THE REAL AMERICANS, the real believers of this country and it's constitution?

    30. Leith Wood, Virginia says:

I just tuned in to get my daily Heritage fix, before making creamed onions. God bless you all for keeping us informed and up emotionally all year.

    31. DR - Orlando, FL says:

Since our Federal Representatives in the House and Senate believe that they are not required to listen to nor represent the people who elected them, to office, I suggest we start flooding our State Representatives and Senators and Govenors to recall and impeach these power hungry zealots who believe they have the right to dictate to every other citizen in this country what they will and will not do and how much of the money they work for they can and can not keep. As for this HealthCare being railroaded over the will of the American People, just tell me where and when do I report jail because I will not pay a fine and I will not be forced into something so blantantly unwanted by the rest of my fellow citizens. This country was founded on words WE THE PEOPLE. I was raised on that belief and the belief ". . . Give me Liberty or give me death," by my parents and I'm now a senior citizen. I still believe what I grew up on. I do not want to live in a communist country.

Is there a free country left somewhere on this earth that would grant a little old granny, who believes in freedom and individual rights, political asylum? As this newly passed healthbomb passed by the U.S. Senate shows, the U.S. Socialist Democratic Republic is requiring all those citizens over the age of 60 to die soon as we are no longer useful.

    32. Christine, Indiana says:

As more American Patriots wake up and see the following:

The toxic conditions of congress with waste of tax payer’s dollars, lies, deceit, no transparency, special bribe deals, a president who is transforming America to Socialism, a President who is using the Cloward-Piven Strategy of Orchestrated Crisis, a President who is quoted as saying, “that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties,” appointing 37 socialistic czars that will enact regulation over your life like never seen before, a Cap & Trade Bill that will double your electric bill, a President who wants net neutrality and national media reform, a president who appointed an FCC Chairman Julius Genochowski who wishes to silence the air waves of america so there can’t be free speech, especially of those who don’t subscribe to Obama’s destruction of American Liberties.

When there are sufficient numbers of American Patriot’s tired of being pushed, taxed, silenced, they will assemble and organize and there will be a uprising as never seen before. The Patriots will see to it that The tree of liberty be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

The audacity of this President to claim support of reducing green house gasses, and today make another trip on Air Force 1, this time to Hawaii for Christmas, is testimony to his arrogance and ignorance.

My Merry Christmas to the Reid, Pelosi, Baucus, Nelson, Landrieu, Grayson, Frank and all the others alike—your disingenuous service to the Americans will soon be replaced by true Patriots that believe in We the People.

"give me Liberty or give me death" they back then that what they were framing was goning to be something new something American something worth figthing for, these people on both sides of the Washington aisle are stealing and allowing the stealing of the American way of life, it is time some of us stood up and let them know that they can not infringe pon the Constitutional rights guaranteed to us by thos that day who said "to arms, to arms " upon hearing Patrick Henry's cry

may be we need to grow a set and stand up and let them know the give, before they take it all away with smiles and lies

stand up be heard and let them know tha they can not and will not take what is ours away, even at the cost of our lives if need be that is the spirit that made this country the greatest on earth.

    35. Linda says:

We will not give up the fight against this take over of our health.

There is no way this is in our constitution.

We will continue to fight, just like George Washington did in 1776! There are millions of us, and only a few of them. We will win and take our country back from this anti-American Congress and administration! We are Americans, we live in the land of the FREE!

    36. Ron Derry nh says:

There is something oddly similar about the ill informed.

      They seem to agree that communism is a principle that defends them. They seem to think conservatives are insulting them personally when debating reality. When conservatives defend the constitution they get insulted at the challenge and seem to think that the decent people would accept communism without a fight because somehow they've concluded, surrender is a means to gain an advantage against what they believe are the forces of evil;

      Knowledge, history and facts.

The ill informed have found comfort in surrendering their future, their children's future and their own awareness to stand firm supporting Communism's alleged virtue, because it takes power from some one elses gains without personal sacrifice….and that surrender of virtue is not what made America the great country that it is and to revile the very essence of being an American is as ill informed as one can be..

    37. Christopher Popham S says:

disrepair. Until we all recognize the first four paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution as the bulwarks of of this republic, we are doomed to a very dangerous state of

affairs. May God Bless America. Merry Christmas.

After 73 years of living as a woman and child of poor parents who were married during the Depression in 1930, I have learned much about the truth of how the USA was founded: Genocide of the Native Americans, Institution of Slavery, Prejudices (against females, people of color, and poor people who owned no property). I love this country with all its strengths and faults because our Constitution has made it possible for improvements to be made to enable all the people to be represented and considered in making laws. It is time for us, conservatives, to discern truth from fiction and bring our political principles into the 21st Century and act accordingly within the context of our time on earth.

    39. patrick henry says:

      March 23, 1775

it is about time that many Americans stood up and remember the words of Patrick Henry "give me liberty or give me death". they understood then what we have forgotten now that the price of freedom doesn't come cheap and it is worth what ever price we need to pay to preseve it. daily we see this new administration and the congress on both sides of the aisle whittling away lttle by little what our forefathers fought and died for

how sad that that at the deliverance of that great line all assembled cried out "to arms,to arms" we just cry and let these criminals daily steal more and more of our Rights as Americans

what we dont see is anyone with a plan on how to solve this mess, everyone is waiting for them to steal and possibly due irreparable damage to our Constitutionally guaranteed rights as citiznes of this great land

HOW LONG DO WE SIT AROUND AND WAIT FOR THEM TO STEAL OUR WAY OF LIFE, IT IS TIME THAT WE AS A NATION AND AS A PEOPLE PUT AWAY OUR DIFFERNCES OF RACE, CREED OR COLOR AND SAY TO THOSE THIEVES IN CONGRESS AND THE WHITE HOUSE "GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH" BUT GIVE ME AN AMERICA LIKE THE ONE THAT IS IN THE CONSTITUTION AND OUR FOREFATHERS FOUGHT TO ESTABLISH.

    40. Robert Pipher, Paris says:

Twas the night before Cloture, when all through the Senate

not a citizen was stirring, they would not let them in it.

The stockings were hung by the speakers desk with care,

In hopes that St. Harry soon would be there.

The citizens were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of corruption danced in their heads.

And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap.

When down at the Capital there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the TV I flew in a dash,

Skooped up the remote and Fox News in a flash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

gave the luster of mid-day to the Capital below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a long black limo, and no sign of reindeer.

With a little old driver, so frail and meek,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Reid.

More rapid than rats his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

Now Dodd! Now Frank! Now Nelson and Specter!

On, Pelosie! On, Shummer! On Durbin and Snow!

To the top of the Senate and the White House we go!

Now dash away! Dash away! Winner take all!"

As constituents thrown under the bus they drive,

When they meet with an obstacle, they shift into high.

So up to the White House the coursers they drove,

With a Limo full of Ear Marks, they had just stole.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the tube,

The prancing and pawing of the eight little boobs.

As I threw up my arms in discuss and turning around,

Down the hall came St. Obama and a Portuguese Hound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his feet,

And his clothes were all tailored and pressed really neat.

A bundle of Pork he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! But dimples he lacked!

With ears like jug handles, but his nose a bit flat!

His mouth was grinning from ear to ear.

For he had not worry no teleprompter was near.

The butt of a Winston he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.

He had a broad face but no little round belly,

And when he laughed, nothing shook like jelly!

He was tall and lanky, a righteous young elf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!

A twist of his head, a wink of his eye.

I knew with his healthcare that soon I would die.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings with ear marks and perks.

And laying the ground work for wealth redistribute,

And giving the death panel to those who didn’t contribute!

He sprang to his limo, to his team he gave a nudge,

And away they all drove with a the new Supreme Court Judge.

But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

    41. Richard Cancemi, Arl says:

There have been revolutionary forces within the USA working for decades against America, the Constitution, the Rights of citizens and Capitalism. This revolution has been an underground movement until the election of the Democrats who control the Legislature. In their two years of control they then have lain the groundwork for the election of an Obama who turned their revolution into an OVERT one. They have inflicting serious harm on the USA and its Citizens.

Now it is time for a COUNTER-REVOLUTION. The spirit of 1776 must be re-kindled. We see some evidence of this in the massive turn-outs at the TEA PARTIES! Talk must be turned into action.

Will we elect political leaders, loyal to the Constitution and the American Heritage, who will come forth courageously, and turn their rhetoric into action by calling for the impeachment and/or resignation of all these traitorous Democrats (and Republicans) who have been selling out this country?

Will faithful Americans come out in force on election day and rout these enemies of freedom?

Will the newly elected act to return our Country to a true Republic and begin a serious process to repeal all the Socialist instituted programs that were part of the undermining of America?

If not, I fear we will eventuate into another Civil War! True Americans will not, for long, submit to the Marxist-inspired tyranny that is being used in the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary against American values and principles.

These Progressive Socialists must be put out of office and we must be more diligent in the future.

No more ignorance or apathy! These are what brought us to this sad state of affairs.

We must see to it that there is a return to the "Spirit of '76" and the wonderful gifts our Founding Fathers have given us!

Let this be a truly Merry Christmas inspired with hope that we will reclaim AMERICA the BEAUTIFUL!

    42. jim toledo says:

Merry Christmas to all the folks at the Heritage Foundation that make this daily truth page a reality and Merry Christmas to all those that support and read this; it's comforting to know that that there are so many like minded people who actually still believe that America is not only the best place to live but the place we have to fight for to keep alive. God Blest us All.

    43. David McAllen says:

Thank you for reminding us of the other meaning of Christmas. Also thank you for NOT being politiclly correct in wishing us a MERRY CHRISTMAS instead of the limpid happy holidays.

    44. B. Diamond, Hammond says:

On this Christmas Day, may our hearts celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of our

      Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Thank you Lord for the many blessings you have given to the United States of America. We cherish them dearly and ask your guidance in preserving them for future generations. We trust that you will watch over our troops in harms way and comfort them while they are so far from home. We ask that you please comfort their families as well.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

      Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

    45. Publius Huldah, Cook says:

An inspiring article, except that it is a grevious error to describe us as a "nation". That mindset is what is behind the centralization of power in Washington, D.C.

The Truth is that we were a "nation" for only the very limited purposes enumerated at Art. I, Sec. 8, U.S. Constitution. For all other purposes, we were set up as a federaltion of sovereign States. See, e.g., The Federalist No. 45 (9th para), and The Federalist No. 39, where James Madison illustrates the "national" and "federal" features of our government.

Folks! Stamp out sloppy thinking! If we are to restore our constitutional Republic, you need to get the cobwebs out of your brains!

    46. sherry, avon, massac says:

I think they don't think Congress and Obumma really care what we the Americans really think. They are going to do anything they want no matter what we say. And for what they are doing to this country will be their downfall.

    47. H L PUCKETT VA. says:

WE HERE IN THE OLD DOMINION CLEARED OUT THE LIBERALS FROM RICHMOND IN THE LAST ELECTION, IF WE ARE ANTICIPATING THE 2010 ELECTIONS, WE WILL THEN CLEAR OUT MORE OF THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS FROM WASHINGTON,THEN WE WILL SURVIVE OBAMA UNTIL 2012 ELECTIONS,OF COURSE HE WILL BE JUST A VERY BAD MEMORY AT THAT TIME.THE DEMOCRATS HAVE A WAY OF SHOOTING THEM SELVES IN THE FOOT ANYWAY, WE CAN SHOW THEM AT THE POLES HOW WE FEEL.

    48. Randy, New Orleans says:

I would like to wish all of you at the Heritage Foundation a Blessed Christmas, and let's pray, a happy 2010. Our Founding Father's fought so hard to defeat the very thing that is happening right now in our great Country. This is pure Communism. Every where it has been tried it has failed, making those in power richer and the hard working citizens poorer, through taxation without representation. I stand with Millions of my fellow Patriots in saying "no you won't" Thank you Heritage Foundation for giving us the ammunition to defeat this evil.

    49. Jeff says:

I almost can't believe what I'm seeing happen to this country, anybody with just a little common sense would be able to see….you'd think! So either the people wanting all of this change are among some of the stupidest people on the face of the earth or they know exactly what they are doing….I think all of the above!

People shun the ideas of revolutions because of the obvious! But this nation was born from revolution….let's not forget our history!I think "WE THE PEOPLE" need to take back control of our government! These people think they have the absolute right to do as they please and that goes for both sides, they use our money to live off of and to bribe each other for votes and favors!

Our government is only run by a hand-full of people and these people are not making decisions for our benefit….someone needs to get a handle on it all or our nation is going to change just as Obama had campaigned!!!

      "God Bless America"

    50. Jeanne Stotler, Wood says:

Jeff what you see is those who were brought up to believe that they were intitled to anything they wanted, and that they didn't have to work for it. We the seniors, are partially to blame, after years of war and rationing we went all out to give OUR KIDS what we did without as kids. Then came all this advanced tech. and OUR KIDS now give their kids all the NEW TOYS, trouble is we never asked for these KIDS to EARN what we gave them, that is for the most of us. I had 9 children and being raised in a boarding school, I made sure my kids had chores, the oldest also babysat if Dad and I went out, which was rare. My grandkids for the most part have to work but I know others who think that their kids should belong to org. and have everything they want. To these Christmas is no bid deal, it just adds to the loot, they know only "Ask and you will recieve" no limits, now they want the same at others expense(through taxes) free health care, free housing, food and cars. Bring back, don't work, don't eat ethics, NO FREE RIDE

    51. Gayle, Michigan says:

Shows what a country can accomplish as long as someone is willing to sell their soul to the devil!

    52. Dennis A. Social Cir says:

I like this article, it should remind all of us the principles that built this country from sratch. It should also show us that the current trend is to throw the Constitution out with the trash, obama and team do not care for or adhere to the Constitution. They are all about power and controll, and unless we ALL VOTE IN 2010 THEY WILL HAVE ALL THE POWER AND CONTROLL. I THINK WE NEED TO THROW ALL THE BUMS OUT AND START FRESH.

    53. Ella QUINN N.C. says:

I agree with freedom of speech.

    54. Lynn B. DeSpain says:

Now that we all have celebrated Christmas with our families, in our won ways and fashions, it is time again to focus our celebration on bringing America back to the Constitution.

Our Constitution is our foundation, our rock, of the Republic in which we live. It was never intended to be adapted to times that citizens live in. It was only meant to be Amended within the Laws of itself, to limit the powers of the Federal Government and to further define the Powers of States, if need be.

All in Power at this time abiding in Washington DC, have broken covenent with our Constitution. This coming Novemeber, we shall remove all members of the House of Representatives, for present and past ill deeds, and the one third of the Senate by the same reasoning.

The President's attorneys this day were taken aback, when they petitioned the Court to have their hearing moved to Washington DC regarding Obama's Citizenship, and his Cambridge records being unsealed, when the filing attorney said loud and clearly,"No Objections, your Honor."

Now Oboma's lawyers have nothing left to fight with! Such a Happy Holiday!

    55. Ted Moore Grand Pra says:

on a completely different subject, has anyone seen the movie " Avatar", I saw it over the christmas weekend and I was impressed with the visual effects, but was disgusted with the enviromentalist whacko theme, I mean the destroy the planet at any costs evel capitalist against the tree hugging enviros. where as usual the evel capitalist are shown as the enemy and the great tree huggers are left to stop them and save us from ourselves, I do not want to live in a forrest with a loin cloth, but any tree hugger out there can put on thier loin cloth and swing from the trees that the evel capitalist planted to replace the trees they have cut down to produce a better way of life for us all. This is a typical Hollywood whack job.

    56. Christopher Watkins, says:

Much as I appreciate the pleasantry of your greeting for Christmas,it is still woefully apparent from the bulk of your message that you are terribly dependent upon the words and traditions developed by the Founders. They are wonderful, of course, however, from what source did they justify their cause even derive the bulk of their reasoning? Scripture. Unless, today's Refounders will do the same, the victory over the Libs will be elusive. There are specific scriptures, useful today, that aid in defeating evil and we need to use them.

    57. gartano says:

Maybe we should be thanking Obama, for what he calls change just might be the patriot change. He and his followers have arroused the patriots of America and has given us the energy that we need to take back our country and our freedom.and protect our constitutional rights. Although I am to old and have cancer,I will wait untill the day for Americans to march by my home, and take me with them to fight.GOD _-WILL- bless America, and its people will not let this government tear us appart.
