  • Live At Copenhagen: Blame America First Mentality

The Heritage Foundation’s Steven Groves and Ben Lieberman are live at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference reporting from a conservative perspective. Follow their reports on The Foundry and at the Copenhagen Consequences Web site.

Though Barack Obama garnered much attention for his Nobel Peace Prize win, the United States has won three lesser-known, tongue-in-cheek awards at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference from a liberal environmentalist organization that has been critical of America’s refusal to wholeheartedly embrace their radical agenda.

And what “ignoble actions” earned the United States these noble prizes? According to the people at Avaaz.org, the U.S. government took home the “Fossil of the Day” award for “stalling negotiation to save life on planet earth.” Along with the Climate Action Network, Avaaz.org runs a daily award show at the Copenhagen Climate Conference. It’s worth noting that Avaaz.org is dedicated to “to clos[ing] the gap between the world we have, and the world most people everywhere want.”

The Fossil of the Day award is indicative of the “blame America first” sentiment that pervades these conferences and the Heritage team is doing all it can to make sure that, despite  this anti-US  sentiment,  the real interests of the American people are part of this debate.

Here’s video of the red carpet ceremony shot by Heritage’s Ben Lieberman:

We at Heritage applaud this award in part because, climate change and research aside, signing a colossal UN resolution in Copenhagen this week would mean signing over our sovereignty to unelected bureaucrats in the United Nations and Europe (not to mention the tremendous economic harm Copenhagen regulations would wreak on the U.S. economy). Here’s to fourth “Fossil of the Day Award.”

    3. David, Raleigh says:

Woo-hoo!!! To agree with this bunch of Marxists is to sell out everything our country was founded upon and the ideals that our Framers fought and died to pass along to us. Too bad that our public-school educated citizens don't understand that our country was founded upon freedom and liberty, not nanny-state Marxism.

    4. Bobbie Jay says:

It's too bad people around the world, don't have their eyes open wide enough to see the truth. Or the mind to grasp reality. Yet, stand FIRM to deny their own observances. To be easily influenced by a man-made non-existence.

DEVELOPING COUNTRIES NEED CAPITALISM AND HONEST LEADERSHIP WITH CIVIL LAW! Thanks again, to mother nature for dumping it on Copenhagen. And the people still can't grasp reality.

Congratulations USA, FOR EVEN THOUGH AWARDED BY THE IGNORANT, IS STILL AWARDING to be aware OF THE IGNORANT.

    6. RJ Moeller, Chicago says:

The modern, progressive Left has totalitarian instincts when it comes to almost any social, economic, or political problem. Health Care. Education. Cap-and-trade.

When it comes to the environment they are Green on the outside, but still Red where it counts.

Check out my thoughts on the Copenhagen climate summit: http://rjmoeller.com/2009/12/watermelon-surprise/

    7. Ozzy6900, CT says:

Are these people serious? I really think that their parents should be arrested for allowing them to live!

    8. william new braunfel says:

The leftist of the world and those in our country should realize we the people will fight for our sovereignty and we will abide by no agreements or treaties signed by this administration the UN. can go to hell and has no authority over the American people I pray they are smart enough not to force us to prove this fact we stand Constitution in hand

    9. RON, UNITED STATES says:

you folkes are obviously not paying attention to current news & climategate, or simply choose to ignore it. you can do your own research & find man is contributing very little to natural climate change once you get past the hype and find claims by honest scientists. we all want our planet safe & clean but have no desire to be ripped off by the likes of Gore and cap & tax proposals. perhaps there is an ulterier motive, like money? AMERICA also has no desire to turn any part of our sovereignty over to anyone. take the time to do honest research instead of listening to the hype, and creating your own i might add.

    10. Jeanne Stotler, Wood says:

Let's see, Denmark is having the first snowfall this early since when??, we here in the D.C. area are waiting for a MAJOR snowstorn, first since 1938 or so??, Now where in this equation do you find global warming? Every cycle has it's benefits and downfalls, it's all with the position of the solar system. Now clean air is different, that is why filters are made, common sense is lacking just about everywhere, and definetly in Congress.

    11. Dave, Laguna Niguel says:

All deadbeats, louts, lazy people, uneducated, liberals want more than a handout, they want us to take care of them for their entire lives. Look at Canada where those on welfare have the same income as those who work their butts off and are taxed at a 50% rate. Workers are RESENTFUL AS HECK and unfortunately realize THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO CHANGE IT! We are well on our way to joining Canada witha 50% fed tax, and add any state income tax and additional taxes and some of us are looking at 70% or MORE! How's that HOPE and CHANGE working for ya?

    12. Tim Az says:

The pinko commies of the world are restless.

    13. Normca says:

These are the same nut balms [and their parents] who protest whatever is the latte for the time. They ignore facts with the "leaked" emails on Global Warming, they ignore what the American People want on Health care and just go marching to their own drum. And while people are hurting at home without a job, the pres. wannabe was directed to give away $30 billion of borrowed Chinese money. While China tells the nut balms to take a hike. But it is better that Obama be liked than it is to do real things, like cut taxes fore small business to turn our economy around. It is all about Obama. No matter the issue – it is all a hoax. Cap and Trade, Health Care etc. More control for the idiots in D C. Lets send many democrats to their districts for good in Nov '10 and tell the media they are just waisting their carbon credits putting out newspapers.

    14. Scott, United States says:

They are free to sign any treaty they want. However, the Constitution of The United States is the LAW of the land, and no treaty can usurp it's authority. If the government want's to enforce the treaty provisions, we'll have to "TOLL THE BELL, SUMMON THE MILITIA". When we're done, we'll have a TRAIL, then HANG the lot of them for TREASON. I'll be happy to volunteer my skills that I learned in the Army, and I'll happily supply the trees and rope. What these people fail to realize is that here in the United States we have a population that is fearsomely loyal to our Constitution!! The majority of the Nations of this world have the opposite problem, nobody is loyal to their constitutions, they simply don't have one, or they live in a festering crap hole and anything would be an improvement. I'm waiting for November 2, 2010 and it can't come fast enough!!!!

    15. Moose, Spring, Texas says:

I'll take as many first place fossil awards as they are willing to give me just to keep my money out of the hands of all those dictators and socialists who want to get their hands on it. The biggest lie of the Conference is that the money will be put to climate change. More likely it will go into the pockets of corrupt politicians in the United Nation and its member states like the oil for food program. Let's not be ripped off by Al Gore, the United Nations and East Anglia University.

    16. Bob, Portland, OR says:

Well, climate welfare is now being reduced to the play acting hoax that it really is.

Do these people live in the real world?

      Answer…No

Do they understand just how foolish these little skits look to us?

They want us to give our hard earned money to this ilk?

Well I don't think so Fools!

    17. Sara, Idaho says:

It doesn't take long to be brainwashed does it? Seems the "green" industry reared it's head about 3 years ago. Bamboo floors, the Prius (or Pious as I call it) made their debut. Thus started a vast corporate industry aimed for what??

      Profit.

Seems to me, a backlash should begin…..

P.S. I own a car that gets 50 mpg, and it ain't no Prius, it's a Jetta. I bought it to save $$$, not the planet. I'd buy it again, tho wish it had been Ford that offered it not VW.

    18. Slick - Nebraska says:

I think it is way past time to CUT OFF ALL MONEY to all other countries so that they will learn to survive on their own just like our ancestors did. The more we "give" other countries in the world, the less they try to do for themselves and the MORE they expect from us because they think we are wealthy. We continue to provide for all the corrupt leaders in the world which results in them using OUR resources against us. That's about the dumbest thing I have ever heard – I'm tired of turning the other cheek!

The other countries in the world hate our guts, resent our freedom and capitalist way of life, and try to figure out every way they can to stick it to us. So WHY do we bend over backwards to accommodate them? No matter what we do we will NEVER gain respect from the rest of the world so just stop trying.

Let's quit trying to save the world – let's stay home and take care of our own, continue to do the best we can to take care of our environment, letting other countries work to make their country better just like we have. And let it be known that if ANYONE comes over here to screw with us on our turf, we will use every military tactic we have to obliterate the invaders from the face of the earth – no ifs, no ands and no buts!

As far as I am concerned, the rest of the world can go to H—!!!!

    19. Ben C, Ann Arbor says:

I agree with Slick. It is clear that our foreign aid policy has become outdated and its time to let the rest of the world solve their own problems. Had an earthquake? Sorry about your luck. Your neighboring country has invaded your land? Learn how to shoot a gun. The Islamists want to tell you how to dress and where to sit? Tell them where to go.

I too am tired of us trying to solve other countries problems. Socialists like to use other peoples money – and I am tired of picking up the check. If the polls are accurate, over forty percent of the country agrees with Slick and me. There is hope.

    21. Freedom of Speech, T says:

Building lasting relations can be accomplished in many ways, be it cultural, military, medical assistance and others.

You cannot defeat anti-Americanism by throwing money at countries. First, it will never be enough and second, American taxpayers will only make many millionaires of foriegn politicians and cronies – the money will not go for the purpose intended.

UN and food programs are prime examples.

Most importantly, we have enough problems in THIS country trying to demand politicians be fiscally accountable.

    22. Lynn B. DeSpain says:

My questions to those who would blame the United States of America for anythiing would be, "Would you rather be speaking German and Jappanese now?", "When we helped you all in winning both World Wars, did we take any land from you, other than the land to bury our dead?", "When your people where cold and hungry and needed medicine, who gave it to you?"

"Our Air is 98% cleaner than it was forty years ago, how about yours?", "Our Water is 95% cleaner than it ws 40 years ago, how about yours?"

"I suggest looking into your own homes before you look into mine!", "And if you really want to blame me, fine! Then forget me you you next need anything."

    23. Jeanne Stotler, Wood says:

Since WWI we have leant money, new word for "Give", to other countries, we never get paid back, only asked for more, we give away tech knowledge to have it used against us, we send our troops to aid, as well as our medical and rescue people, then we get slammed as being "TOO CAPITALISTIC" People like Chavez want our help when the storms, earthquakes hit, they sell us their gas (DON"T BUY FROM 7/11 or CITCO GAS) and then call us names, he said Bush smelled like the "devil",said samething yesterday about Obama, Let's start first by buying "MADE IN USA" and then making sure to VOTE 2010 & 2012

    24. Rubicon, Southcentra says:

All the more stunning is the lack of news reporting by America's 'mainstream media' who seem to think if they don't talk about an issue, then its not real or people will not find out about it.

Well, the internet has exposed them & the ClimateGate fiasco. We also find there are more & more so-called scientists at other universities who have also manipulated or homogenized data, plus corrupted data for computerized climate models to be based on.

W/ the University of East Anglia losing the base temperature data information that was collected for the past few decades (?), we now know almost none of the models, or predictions, can be considered factual or truthful, since they are all based on 'homogenized' data. So now, data has been "created" to make computer models provide specific results.

The old saying about computers has now truly come to pass… Garbage in, garbage out!

This admin. wants to control the internet. I suppose they are upset that truth is getting out & ruining their plans for global governance & huge taxes. Seems it upsets these folks when average people find out, they have been lied to big time.

But, big Al Gore will reap more millions, or is that now billions, by trading in pieces of paper that are supposed to represent carbon credits… one of the biggest scams known to mankind.

Is it any wonder 'the people' are rallying to the call of the Tea Party patriots?

    25. Drew Page, IL says:

I see a lot of unhappy commentary about the great american hoax of global warming. Parents, grownups, wake up. This stuff is being preached to our kids every day in grade school. The liberal media is constantly printing and programming the nonsense about global warming into the culture. To the degree they report on any scientific disagreement with their pre-conceived notions, they ridicule that disagreement.

Our kids and our culture are being brain washed with "the big lie". If it is told often enough, people will believe it. Where have we heard this before.

And those who villify capitalism and America the loudest are the first to hold out their hands to capitalistic America to demand money, as if they are somehow owed something. Where the hell do these people get off? If they really believed their own B.S., and had the courage of their socialist convictions, they wouldn't lower themselves to take a stinking dime from the filthy, degenerate, American capitalists.

These people make me sick. They grew up in an America that was capitalistic long before they were ever born. If they think that it's so damned bad here in the U.S. and so damned good in France, Russia, Canada then they ought to do the same thing their ancestors did when they decided their homelands were too rotten to live in any longer; they packed their bags and got the hell out. I promise you, no one here will miss them.
