  • Obama’s Nobel Prize Speech Wrong on Global Warming

In the midst of resolving conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan, President Obama briefly mentioned another war in his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech: the war on climate change. He said,

“The absence of hope can rot a society from within. And that is why helping farmers feed their own people – or nations educate their children and care for the sick – is not mere charity. It is also why the world must come together to confront climate change. There is little scientific dispute that if we do nothing, we will face more drought, famine and mass displacement that will fuel more conflict for decades. For this reason, it is not merely scientists and activists who call for swift and forceful action – it is military leaders in my country and others who understand that our common security hangs in the balance.”

Interestingly, the more attention the Climategate scandal receives, the firmer the Obama administration is that the scientific consensus is, in fact, a consensus. First Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lisa Jackson and now President Obama. But the truth is there is a lot of scientific dissent refuting the claim that doing nothing will result in more natural disasters. It’s easy to blame hurricanes, droughts, wildfires, floods, tornadoes and every other natural disaster on manmade global warming since they’re all climate-related but the correlation simply isn’t there. There is no consistent long-term pattern. Climatologist Roy Spencer pointed out after Hurricane Katrina that we had similar hurricanes in a less industrialized world: “Certainly, the previous huge hurricanes that we had in the 20′s, 30′s, 40′s, 50′s, didn’t have anything to do with mankind’s production of CO2 because we hadn’t produced very much by then, and I find it just irresponsible that anyone would claim that this hurricane was caused by global warming.”

In fact, Florida State University researchers found that global and northern hemisphere tropical cyclone activity is the lowest in thirty years and will likely continue down that path. Natural disasters will occur with or without global warming and their frequency or intensity cannot be linked to human-induced global warming. The only thing collective action to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions will ensure is a poorer world with fewer resources to combat these natural disasters and mitigate the detrimental effects that result from them. The simple adage “wealth makes health” can go a long way in improving technologies to better track storms and the ability to battle floods, droughts and fires.

Capping carbon dioxide, not only in the United States but also globally with an international treaty, is a wealth reducer. As far as “common security hanging in the balance”, carbon caps would inhibit our military preparedness and overall economic well-being. As energy prices soar, production will decrease, resources will become scarcer and innovation and entrepreneurial activity will fall, and innovation and entrepreneurial activity are the two things that will help to effectively adapt to climate change, if necessary.

“The absence of hope can rot a society from within.” Powerful words from our nation’s leader. Unfortunately, the president’s solution on climate change will do nothing but give people less hope and make certain that poorer countries remain poor.

Holy cow. He can't even accept a Nobel without bringing the teleprompter. People say he's a great speaker. He's nothing more than a good reader. Nothing he says comes from the heart. It comes from George Soros and his speachwriters. What a pathetic excuse for a POTUS.

    2. Diane Tunison, Brigh says:

It is perception such as what is in this article that holds this world back from achieving peace, comfort for ALL classes, and progress for ALL countries. Unbelievable…the only act that takes hope away is the act of ignorance and intolerance. No one is talking about preventing natural disasters. The problem is what our entrepreneurs are doing to the environment with their polluting factories and vehicles. Your President is talking about the reckless use of fossil fuels. Companies need to be held accountable for the damage they release into the atmosphere. As for a "wealth reducer", wealth is what it comes down to cease progress for the betterment of all man-kind, isn't it: Money for the upper-class. Doesn't anyone get it? It's not about the mighty dollar for the well-to-do. It's about the health and welfare of ALL people and the world that we reside in. This President gives hope that there will be change, if America can squash it's old selfish ways.

      Already did, above.

Take back America and protect the American Experiment, that the Democratic (socialist) Party of America despises, in 2010!

Read John Hansen's letter to Barack and Michelle Obama!

Obama knows, exactly, what he is doing – using Americans to make millionaires out of his leftist elitist eugenicist:

      Excerpt:

"“Cap and trade” generates special interests, lobbyists, and trading schemes, yielding non

productive millionaires, all at public expense."

Every time an anti-American democrat speaks, the President included, there is always words of reference used to spin into his agenda.

"the absence of hope can rot a nation within." HOPE for what, Mr. President? You became president. So now, HOPE for what? "Change" to what, Mr. President? Lets here your limited mind, specify an answer. Why you consistently spew out "hope and change" without specifics is why I will NEVER TRUST YOU! So what is your HOPE AND CHANGE for America? …be specific!

the abundance of ignorant leadership will destroy a nation instantly.

"For this reason, it is not merely scientists and activists who call for swift and forceful action – it is military leaders in my country and others who understand that our common security hangs in the balance.”

Does anyone else see anything at all ominous in the words quoted above from Obama? For example, what "swift and forceful action"? Our military leaders understand that our "common security" is at risk? And now the EPA is issuing regulations without the consent of Congress. Will somebody we elected please stand up for America?

    9. Brad S,, Detroit, MI says:

      Diane,

I am ashamed to live in the same state you do. Companies are always held accountable for their actions – that is what the government and our laws are supposed to do. The issue is that global warming and climate change caused by man is a ridiculous hoax. Plain and simple. You know as well as anyone – especially in MI – that we have had a couple of the harshest winters in recent memory and one of the coolest summers in two decades. Global warming – my eye ! Capping and trading is just a ponzi scheme to take money from us in the form of taxes on everything. Everything. When you tax energy, the businesses and companies don't absorb those costs – they pass them on to you the consumer. Once the government has figured out a way to take away all of your disposable income through taxes, they have essentially taken away your freedom. That is the fact that is lost on most of the environmental zealots. . . .

    10. Jim Wilson Dallas Te says:

No one that was elected in the last go around seems to have any intention of standing up for anything. Conservatives, let's show them how to be bipartisan………….let's fire them all!

    11. Sheree Perkins, Hawa says:

Obama is NOT the, "Prince of PEACE"…just a slippery counterfeit. Wake up people and T H I N K!

    12. Greg, Albuquerque, N says:

      Brighton, MI writes…

I wonder if the author has ever been abroad. If you travel the world as I have (with the US Navy & over many decades) you can see that American industry is by far the cleanest ANYWHERE. Indeed, there is NO comparison between our industry emission and the true pollutants emitted into the atmosphere in Asia, much of Europe, Russia, and most especially – China.

It is obsurd to take a position that US industry not perform certain manufacturing or services to reduce emission all the while forcing companies to move such activities to unregulated locations around the globe.

Ponder this – if we really are on the edge of a precipise with carbon emissions – why is there no call for the ONLY viable and currently available alternative energy solution – Nuclear??? (and don't play the "it costs too much" card as much (over 30% I beleive) of the cost of "construction" involves litigation planning required to fend off "green activists").

Think please!!! The sky is not falling.

    13. Tom /Georgia says:

      Folks, consider this:

A century and a half ago, 9,997 of every 10,000 atmospheric gas molecules were not CO2.

Today 9,996 of every 10,000 atmospheric gas molecules are not CO2.

Does it seem to you that a change of one molecule in ten thousand in the composition of the Earth's atmosphere could have enough of an effect on the climate of the planet that it would precipitate the global political hubbub that is currently underway? Not even close. So what is the real motive that is at work in Washington, at the UN and in the congregation of larcenous nabobs that has convened in Copenhagen? What, exactly, is being kept hidden away in the shadows?

Just how many guesses do you need, anyway?

Do you think that there is any longer even a slim possiblitiy of being able to pull the climate change issue back out of the various political ratholes that it has been drug into and give it back to science and to scientists who may actually understand what they are doing well enough to be able to find real answers to real scientific questions?

No way. Far too many of the larcenous nabobs, them whut's in charge, are seeing large numbers of dollar signs when they read the tea leaves and foretell the future.

And, by the way, just which instution is it do you reckon that is by far the largest user of energy of all kinds that has ever existed on the planet?

THEM AIN'T CHICKENS COMIN' HOME T' ROOST. THEM'S BUZZARDS.

    14. Dale, Cincinnati says:

Obama and his Green World acolytes ignore facts that contradict their agenda. One need only to look at research by Liu, et. al. on N. American pre-historic hurricanes to see that we are currently in a lull. Andrew, Katrina, Rita, Ike, and company are average hurricanes when compared to those that made landfall on the Gulf Coast US prior to 1000 AD. I wonder what mankind was doing to cause this problem back then?

    15. Jerry, Indiana says:

Diane – it's all about personal liberty. That's what our Founding Father's put in the Constitution and what liberals, in the name of doing what's best for me, are taking away.

    16. Earl, QUEENS, NY says:

According to CNSnews (12/10/2009), Obama’s climate agenda is being criticized by conservatives from Copenhagen, as they know it’s bad for the economy. This is no surprise to me. Some 63,000,000 morons should be ashamed for their foolish error on 11/4/2008. Our founding fathers would probably have a temper tantrum if they were alive today, as America may be going from being the wealthiest nation and the leader of the free world to becoming a land of disappointment and the laughingstock of the world. We already know that BHO has been an embarrassment – badmouthing and apologizing for America to the world. Now we see many people in foreign nations with more common sense on economics (and politics) than many stupid Americans who still give BHO and his democrats favorable job approval ratings. All you morons who still worship Barack Obama, and refuse to admit that you made a big mistake last November….PAT YOURSELVES ON THE BACK!!

    17. Boyce Robbins Easley says:

I wish the Republicans would remind the nation where the unemployment rate, S & P 500 and home prices and foreclosure rates were when the Democrats gained control of Congress in 2007 and where they are now. Also, where the national debt was and where it is now and where it is headed. Socialism and Communism re-distribute wealth by lowering the standard of living of the upper and middle income brackets and thus closing the gap with the bottom brackets. This is the change we get with Obama and Socialism and their hope is that they will continue to hold power long enough to carry out that scheme.

    18. mark in spokane wa. says:

Lets not forget that if this copenhagen treaty is agreed to, it will tie our laws to the international community, thereby effectively nullifying our constitution. Is Diane(Mi.), willing to give that up? Obama is a criminal, in the process of giving this country away after the bank robbery, wish he'd give nancy away in the deal!

    19. Tim Az says:

So here you have it. Mao-Bama finally tells the truth in a twisted sort of way. He intends to create a total abscence of hope to rot away the free society within America. Of course we would have to allow that to happen.

More abscence of hope and change anyone?

    20. Larry, Calif. says:

      Diane,

You couldn't appear more ignorant if you tried. How can you read Heritage Foundation literature and continue to hold the beliefs you express? How naive of you not to see the cap and trade scheme for what it really is: a monumental tax promoted by liberals to assure a continuing source of revenue to finance their agenda.

Brad S. is right-on in his comments. However, he should consider that Diane, and her ilk, don't really value freedom. It makes them uncomfortable.

They need the government to tell them what's best for them. That way they don't have to actually think for themselves.

    21. Jill, California says:

Those who would blame hurricanes, droughts, wildfires, floods, tornadoes and every other natural disaster on manmade global warming must somehow think they are a match for Mother Nature. I beg to differ.
