I personally know of several individuals who have created private foundations who wouldn't have done so with out the death tax. If children of wealthy families were to inherit large sums of monies due to the elimination of the death tax, most of them would blow or otherwise lose the wealth well within their lifetimes. It is however a better outcome with less inefficencies than do occur with the death tax. The monies go into the economy (multiplier effect) with out the government wasting a portion of it. If the death tax were elminiated I believe charities would be forced to become more efficient and transparent in order to attract "do gooder" dollars. There would be no tax incentive so charities would need to demonstrate effectively the positive good works they are accomplishing in order to attract monies.

I am in favor of eliminating the death tax but am not so certain charitable giving will hold up.
