About The Heritage Foundation

Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institution—a think tank—whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense. We believe the principles and ideas of the American Founding are worth conserving and renewing. As policy entrepreneurs, we believe the most effective solutions are consistent with those ideas and principles.

In Their Own Words: Obamacare Is Massive New Entitlement That Worsens Our Fiscal Crisis

Posted November 10th, 2009 at 11:06am in Health Care 7 Print This Post Print This Post

The Wall Street Journal draws our attention to a burst of honesty from The New Yorker’s John Cassidy:

The future cost savings that the Administration and its congressional allies are promising to deliver are based on wishful thinking and sleight of hand. Over time, the reform, as proposed, would almost certainly add substantially to the budget deficit, thereby worsening the long-term fiscal crisis that the country faces.

The U.S. government is making a costly and open-ended commitment to help provide health coverage for the vast majority of its citizens. I support this commitment, and I think the federal government’s spending priorities should be altered to make it happen. But let’s not pretend that it isn’t a big deal, or that it will be self-financing, or that it will work out exactly as planned. It won’t.

Many Democratic insiders know all this, or most of it. What is really unfolding, I suspect, is the scenario that many conservatives feared. The Obama Administration, like the Bush Administration before it (and many other Administrations before that) is creating a new entitlement program, which, once established, will be virtually impossible to rescind. At some point in the future, the fiscal consequences of the reform will have to be dealt with in a more meaningful way, but by then the principle of (near) universal coverage will be well established. Even a twenty-first-century Ronald Reagan will have great difficult overturning it.

They KNOW exactly what they are doing. They KNOW this system cannot sustain itself. For many it is the goal and achievement of a life-time. History will not remember congressional proponents of this sick mess so kindly. These people will be linked forever to one of the root causes which destroyed America – the self-imposed annihalation of capitalism and thus America.

Many of the proponents will be out of office and will blame others. Some will have died through natural causes. Those remaining will be the same ones who don’t have enough sense to come out of the rain during a thunderstorm.

They will say, “We meant well. We must have received flawed data. It’s not our fault.”

This is why THEY must be stopped. And, it starts with our congress people having the dignity and responsibility to PUT AMERICA FIRST and not be bought off.

Politics as usual will destroy us. The VOTERS must act. The VOTERS must watch their representatives and hold them accountable.

This article implies that future generations will be left holding the bag as far as paying for universal health care. This is certainly true to a large extent. However the more immediate funding for this extended health care is expected to come from small businesses who will either be forced to provide health care to their employees or pay a stiff penalty for not doing so. This will break the back of thosands of small businesses who traditionally have fueled the recovery from recession and unemployment. But a lack of available credit and now additional taxes will ensure that we will not experience any serious recovery for a very long time.

They are now so completely and fully arrogant that they feel they can boldly state the absolute truth and rub our noses in it. Knowing full well that we can do nothing about it. Fair warning friends, many of us are saying “if this thing passes the senate, there will be hell to pay at the polls” Guess what, if it passes, it won’t matter anymore, it will be over. It needs to stop now!

This is exactly why the People must have a means to hold elected officials accountable outside of an election year when they over-step their Constitutional authority. Go here to see what I am talking about, based on the Declaration of Independence. http://www.avoiceofthepeople.com and http://recall.avoiceofthepeople.com Thank you!

Who did Obama promise this to? It certainly isn’t the American people. So, who? This wasn’t thought of overnight. This attack has been planned.

Sandra, where would you expat to?! It’s worse every where else. This is why we need to protect the USA as the last bastion of liberty. This must be stopped. Put pressure on your Senators!

Bobbie, I think BHO promised this to guys like Sorros. Maybe he even promised it to Allah. Who knows?! What we do know is he is not thinking about America or Americans.
