Each state gets tax dollars from insurance companies called a premium tx. In Nevada the state receives 31/2% of all premiums collected and that amounts to $270,000,000 annually. If we have a public option and don't get the premium tax dollars from the insurance companies; how do we replace that $270,000,000? I guess we will have to implement a personal income tax. That will really go over well with Nevadans. We are in a lose, lose situation unless we stop Congress in their tracks.

Dear Daniel Z, New Orleans,

After what you have seen since January 20, 2009, do you REALLY believe that government will allow private enterprise to flourish?

I could tick off dozens of advocates who want a government run health care system, including BHO.

If you want government run health care, fine say it!

But trying to justify the opt out is like signing up Mickey Mouse as a registered voter.

Daniel Z-
You're forgetting that the government will both subsidize the government run plan and tilt the regulatory environment in their favor. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac did not gain an 80% market share in mortgage securitization by merit.

The reason why I will always be unalterably opposed to direct government control of any service or industry whether it be health care or energy or anything else can be seen in the country's exploding debt burden. Politicians seem incapable of resisting the pressure to promise to "give" favors to their electorates in their quests to to obtain and retain their offices. They can't even manage to pay for the programs which already exist such as Medicare and Medicaid. On the current trajectory of the nation's finances, it appears that a time of economic reckoning and unfavorable judgment is fast approaching.

Ok, i will prove you wrong. You are basing competition on only one factor (price) and ignoring the other factors that come into play for competition (like quantity and quality of service).

If the private insurance companies provide a superior product as compared to the public option, MANY people will likely choose to remain on their private plans and the only people who are likely to choose the public option are those who would be financially limited from purchasing the more expensive plans (i.e. those people who are currently uninsured).

And I believe that it is a typical conservative argument that private business will tend to be superior to government run entities, right?

The whole Q&A is moot!

1. Even if States can opt out, Citizens will still have to pay the taxes and subsidize the rest of the States that decide to go with the Government plan. You DO NOT opt out AND get out of paying "your fair share".

2. The will be NO COMPETITION! Private Insurance must turn a profit or it ceases to exist as a business. The Government DOES NOT need to turn a profit and therefore will squeeze out the Private Sector.

Please! Someone prove me wrong!
