  • Morning Bell: Is Government Run Health Care Inevitable?

Americans who like making their own health care choices received welcome news yesterday when Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) said he would be willing to block final passage of Obamacare if the government run health insurance program Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced Monday survives the amendment process during the Senate debate. Lieberman explained: “I think that a lot of people may think that the public option is free. It’s not. It’s going to cost the taxpayers and people that have health insurance now, and if it doesn’t, it’s going to add terribly to our national debt.”

Lieberman is dead on. A government run insurance company will be massively more expensive than its proponents claim. Pressed by the leftist news organization Talking Points Memo to respond to “experts” who say the government run plan will actually save money, Lieberman responded: “Well all the history we have of health entitlement programs, including the two big ones that I dearly support, Medicare and Medicaid, is that they end up costing more than we’re prepared to pay, and they add to the debt, and then they add to the burden on taxpayers.” Again, the facts back Lieberman up here 100%.

In 1967, the experts predicted that the new Medicare program would cost about $12 billion in 1990. Actual Medicare spending in 1990 was $110 billion—off by nearly a factor of 100. The leftist TPM shot back noting that the government run health company is supposed to be “financed by premiums, and unable to draw on federal funds.” The statement would be comically naive if the stakes weren’t so high. Does the left really expect the American people to believe that the same government that bailed out General Motors, Chrysler, and scores of highly unpopular banks, would not bailout the already-government-run insurance company they fought so hard to create?

Addressing the “opt out” clause in Reid’s proposal, Lieberman commented: “I would vote against a public option plan even with an opt-out because it still creates a whole new government entitlement program for which taxpayers will be on the line.” This is also true. A government run health insurance program would create a new entitlement program designed to do nothing more than force every American into government run health care. This is not a bug of the plan, it is a feature. Just ask proponents of the plan like Michael Moore who told Rolling Stone this summer: “If a true public option is enacted — and Obama knows this — it will eventually bring about a single payer system, because the profit-making insurance companies won’t be able to compete with a government run plan and make the profits they want to make.” Candidate Barack Obama’s own campaign website back up Moore’s claim, quoting Obama at a 2008 speech in Ames, Iowa: “If I were designing a system from scratch I would probably set up a single-payer system. … So what I believe is we should set up a series of choices. … Over time it may be that we end up transitioning to such a system.”

But the scariest part of Obamacare is that it does not even need a “whole new government entitlement program” to push more and more Americans into government run health care. As Heritage scholar Dennis Smith has documented, even in the Senate Finance Committee version of Obamacare, which does not include a new government run insurance program, almost half of the newly insured Americans would get their new insurance through Medicaid. The House version of Obamacare, with the new government program, is no different.

The point is that no matter how the government run health insurance debate works out, Obamacare will move us closer towards government run health care. The only question is how fast it will do so. But there is still hope. Heritage Vice President for Government Relations Michael Franc explains:

But don’t lose heart. Conservatives will be in a position to prevail because, ultimately, America remains a right-of-center nation. And ultimately this debate will not just be one about our health system.

Rather, it will be a complex and layered debate about many other issues, issues where conservative values carry the day. Lawmakers will be hearing from their constituents on issues as varied and important as the individual’s relationship to government, the size and scope of that government, debt and deficits, our responsibilities to future generations, life (both at its beginning and its end), the level of taxation on individuals and work, job security, and privacy.

We’ll win because there is no other option.

    Quick Hits:

    • Despite his ethics pledge, during his first nine months in office, President Obama has rewarded scores of top Democratic donors with VIP access to the White House, private briefings with administration advisers and invitations to important speeches and town-hall meetings.
    • In what would be the company’s third bailout, GMAC, is seeking $2.8 billion to $5.6 billion more in taxpayer money.
    • Insurgents attacked two guesthouses and a hotel in downtown Kabul that housed United Nations staff and other international personnel, killing at least eight people in one of their most daring attacks on the Afghan capital.
    • Stating a position that would undermine the entire plan, a high-ranking Iranian official said Tuesday that even if the country agreed to a United Nations-sponsored plan to ship its enriched uranium abroad for further processing, it would not ship it all at once.
    • Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) told CSPAN that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is not happy with efforts to make sure Obamacare does not force taxpayers to pay for abortions.

    1. Vicky, PA says:

From someone who just recently experienced the horrors of government run health care, I just want to say I am terrified of this possiblity. There has to be a way to stop it.

    2. John Herndon Roanoke says:

How much has this allready cost the people. Are does not make Obamacare cost more. We have to pay this bill now. We do not need more debt. I love the USA not USSA. John

    3. Jonathan Seid, Willi says:

Michael Franc still believes we are a right of center nation and that may be soothing to his political sores. We are are a left of center nation when the votes are counted. Seems Conservatives have their work cut out to get the 'un-voting citizen' to participate then.

Once this health care program gets approved and appropriations are made, no conservative force will eliminate it. History is full of programs and departments and entitlements that are merely fodder for Conservatives' rants.

It's too little too late from conservative leaders and republicans to make any difference. While off debating praying in public school, liberals built political machinery to get their programs enacted.

Somehow the handwriting on the walls of Congress hasn't been read by conservatives and their supporters. Obama care is the price we pay because we weren't vigilant.

    4. Richard Cancemi, Arl says:

The American people have said, in the majority, that it doesn't want Government health Care! What do the Liberal/Socialists do? They ignore the people; they proceed, hell-bent on dictating to us and controlling everything in America!

They care nothing about America and its people; all they want is to have everything under their control so that then they can deliver America as a prize to the Order of World Socialism.

Obama and the rest are not Americans; they are Globalists. Also, Obama must not be allowed to sign anything at the upcoming Copenhagen meeting. He must not be allowed to sign away America. If he does, it will certainly destroy us. Obama is a Quisling.

    5. Tater Salad says:

To the Democrats & Republicans in Congress who don’t quite get it: I want to offer a personal pledge. I and a lot of other people have every intention of removing you from Congress in the next election if you stand in the way of health care legislation that the majority of the American people want but without any type of public option attached. That is not a hollow or idle threat. We will come to your district and we will work against you, first in the primary and, if we have to, in the general election. We do not want the "Public Option (single payer)"…..period! Rest assured, we are all watching how you vote now and in the future.

    6. Milan Skarka, Spring says:

Yes, I believe it is inevitable.

As a thriving survival of a socialist/communist slavery/serfdom I am continually amazed at the populous affinity for self-destruction of the people. We want the government to guarantee our health, deflect hurricanes, educate our children and license us to drive; we want to be told what to eat, what to smoke and who to marry. We are justly proud of the fact that no enduring society has ever incarcerated more of its people. Noting that a policeman has a pistol, a club, a stun gun, a can of pepper spray and a database that includes us, we feel happy and secured.

Our submission is evident. We want to be operated like puppets and provide for like pets.

The terrorists hate our freedom. But we should be comfortable with that. We hate our freedom too.

    7. Don Shrader, Eaton, says:

From $12 billion to $110 billion is "an order of magnitude larger" but that is still only a factor of 10, not 100.

As to Government run healthcare what is not plainly stated here and elsewhere, although evident on the whole, is that while a Government run healthcare system will cost the American people more through taxation or other obtuse subsidy payments, the direct costs to employers, self-employed, or unemployed will be less than what a for-profit insurance company must charge, which is why a Government run system will completely undermine the ability of private insurance to remain viable. The question is, why will a poorly managed Government healthcare system will cost less than one run by a much more efficient private system. It is not just that a Government system will not be making "obscene" profits but it is more because of issues like a private company must pay its employs directly from its proceeds as well as all of the medical payments, etc. while the Government will most likely take advantage of indirect pay of those Government employees who administer the program but whose compensation is not covered by the health insurance premiums paid to the Government. And it will take many many more Government employees to "manage" the system than it would a private insurance company. And there are numerous more such examples. It is those types of reasons that Government run health care will cost the taxpayer more while forcing more efficiently run private healthcare providers to eventually go out of business.

    8. TJ Holman,Michigan says:

I am against anything that the government runs and wants to run! There is nothing that the government has attempted to run that has not failed, the post office medicare/medicade,and they have stolen our social security money to the tune of over 2 Trillion dollars-yes 2 Trillion!!!!The powers that be are destroying this nation,we need conservatism and I don't see any of that on the horizon! What has happened to the people of this nation, when it comes time to vote no one shows up!!Our rights are slipping away-it is like the frog in the pot of cold water and they turn up the heat a little at a time until he gets boiled,it is time for the frog to jump out of the pot!!How can we stop the people that we elect when we call, send emails and write letters and they pay no attention to what we say, each time I get a responce it is the same political gobblety gook answers!NO one pays attention to the people, what happened to by and for the people!GOD bless America!!!

    9. Christopher Popham S says:

It is so disturbing to observe the perilous path that this Congress and the WH are leading us down.

While our treasury is looted, they spend and spend

more, all to the detriment of this country.

Add to that, convoluted, egregious legislation(s) and more/higher taxes and you have a surefire 'remedy' for failure. Someone please tell me why Washington wants to force all this on an already stressed and beleagured populace at a time

of severe recession. It's downright irresponsiible

and cruel. Correct, repair and heal the economy first; give the people some degree of fiscal stability, then somewhere down the line we'll tackle

all the domestic issues at hand.

    10. TJ Holman,Michigan says:

I love this country, and I am scared to death of the direction that it is going!

    11. Leon, Durango, CO says:

I made the mistake of looking over HR3200.

The horrifying take down of American Medicine, the waste of administrative expertise by total rewrite. Draconian, (no actually draconian, no exaggeration) I read $25,000 fines per day $10,000 per day fines, $500,000 fines, million dollar fines for non compliance with the incomprehensible. It is the license to kill any (or every) medical establishment, at whim, and remove all the joy from the practice of medicine.

The Bill makes administrative make-work galore. Millions of cases go to Trial Lawyers to fight, it duplicates existing studies (the most expensive studies in the world). This Bill throws chaos into the Insurance Markets and Medical markets.

Our federal government does not have the specific power to cause capital to evaporate, the 'good of the People' rules. So something really stupid like an Income Tax, if you could bring the Case, it is clearly Unconstitutional to vanish the People's Capital. Runaway greed is caused by graduated Income Tax. The basic definitions of Economics can't be ignored. The cash substitutes for a full economic cycle, produce/consume. Income is NOT MONEY, it doesn't become money until you buy something. I don't think it is lawful for the government to tax Income. Raw Capital is made to vanish. The VAT (Nancy's perfidy) is even worse because Value is at the other end when you actually get paid.

If the Supreme Court won't hear a Case, then aren't they serving a Foreign Interest? I thought we were Capitalists! You can't just stand by while the government wastes Capital, it isn't an enumerated power.

Even the Congress doesn't have any power to work against the good of the People. Bring Suits against Congressmen (for their illegal acts) on behalf of the People. Now they are ruining our Dollar. The Congress does not have the specific enumerated power to spend all the money there will ever be. I'd put torch bearing crowds to the Supreme Court Building. "Hey! You guys are asleep at the switch!" Keep a vigil there. "Why don't you ACT? Restrain the Congress!"

Arguably Commie-socialist Democrat Plutocrats have the right to run for public office, the People can vote them in. But it can't be legal if they lie their way into office. It can't be legal to buy their way into office. What the Commies want to do is illegal, Socialism never works, ever. The "good of the People" makes Socialism/Communism Unconstitutional, 'prima facie,' 'plain view' and 'common sense.'

Vanishing our Capital is what government does best and Obama is the best of the best at making our Capital disappear. "Monetize the Debt" means pay the debt out of the value of the Dollar. These Traitors plan to pay these trillions by vanishing our currancy. Restrain them or you are complicit, by Oath! This is Racketeering by the Administration, it is highly illegal. High Crimes! And High Misdemeanors all against the Constitution.

I believe any citizen could rightfully bring these charges, start these Cases. Anybody who lost a house could go after these industry killing miscreants, name Obama, Franks, Pelosi, and your Democratic Congressmen. Just because they are in the government doesn't make them above the Constitution. They can't do illegal stuff, their penalty for Treason is Death. It might have been fun for a bunch of college kids to gather and talk about TAKING OVER. But see, actually doing it is criminal. Legally you served a foreign interest that was recognized at the time. Nancy? Frank? Barack? It is illegal to 'take over.' It is highly illegal to bring down the American Economy.

    12. Publius Huldah, Cook says:

Folks, even if this lawless Congress passes a bill providing for government takeover of medical care, all is not lost! Consider the following from The Federalist Papers where such usurpations were addressed:

In Federalist No. 44, Madison said, regarding the peoples’ fears of usurpations by Congress:

"…what is to be the consequence, in case the Congress shall misconstrue this part of the Constitution and exercise powers not warranted by its true meaning, I answer the same as if they should misconstrue or enlarge any other power vested in them…the success of the usurpation will depend on the executive and judiciary departments, which are to expound and give effect to the legislative acts; and in the last resort a remedy must be obtained from the people, who can, by the election of more faithful representatives, annul the acts of the usurpers"(17th Para).

In Federalist No. 33, Hamilton cited Art. VI, cl.2, as showing that laws which are not pursuant to the Constitution "are merely acts of usurpation and deserve to be treated as such" (7th Para). He also said:

"If the federal government should overpass the just bounds of its authority and make a tyrannical use of its powers, the people, whose creature it is, must appeal to the standard they have formed [The Constitution], and take such measures to redress the injury done to the Constitution as the exigency may suggest and prudence justify." (6th Para)

Heed these words of our Founders! If conservatives take over Congress in 2010, we can repeal everything this lawless Congress does.

But there is more we can do: Somewhere along the line, We the People forgot that WE are the Sovereign. WE do not need permission of the federal courts, Congress, or the Executive Branch

to live under our Constitution. Ultimately, we must……JUST SAY, "NO!".

      Publius Huldah

    13. Ben C, Ann Arbor says:

Obama is like a drunk spending other peoples money. His wife isn't any better. To wit:

"In my own life, in my own small way, I have tried to give back to this country that has given me so much. That's why I left a job at a big law firm for a career in public service, " Michelle Obama

No, Michele Obama does not get paid to serve as the First Lady and she doesn't perform any official duties. But this hasn't deterred her from hiring an unprecedented number of staffers to cater to her every whim and to satisfy her every request in the midst of the Great Recession. Just think Mary Lincoln was taken to task for purchasing china for the White House during the Civil War. And Mamie Eisenhower had to shell out the salary for her personal secretary.

How things have changed! If you're one of the tens of millions of Americans facing certain destitution, earning less than subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and then come to realize that the benefit package for these servants of Miz Michelle are the same as members of the national security and defense departments and the bill for these assorted lackeys is paid by John Q. 14. Ken Jarvis - Las Veg says:

      HOT DOG!!!

    15. Spiff, USA says:

I think that the only reason for this great tax hike, via a Government controlled Health scheme, is to use this tax money to replenish the money already squandered.

    16. John, Arizona says:

What is it that Ken Jarvis and the rest of the lefty loons see? Better yet, why can't they see what is happening, not just with the idiotic healthcare plans by the dufus H. Reid, but the entire socialist/marxist government direction of this administration.

We all need to get behind Tater Salad and get these power hungry, cretins out of office!

    17. BobGrenjr says:

We have 50 million on SS and Medicare, 50 million Americans on welfare, Medicaid, food stamps, public housing, and another 50 million government workers, teachers, hospital workers, all voting for Democrats vs 75 million private-sector workers half of are at minimum wage. How could a Conservative ever get elected? Impossible. The economy is going to collapse from the plunder. Only a solidarity movement like in Poland can get workers to strike and force reforms. mensunion.org

    18. Ed, NJ says:

You need to watch the math here. 12 billion goes into 110 billion by about 10 times, not 100 times. We do not need our cause thwarted by own own attempts at hyperbole.

      Otherwise, a good column!!

    19. Bob Veigel, Arlingto says:

Only if the voter's are stupid enough to re-elect incompetent, ignorant and dangerous politicians. The demand should be, get government off our backs and out of our lives. Obamacare is just one of many harmful programs that has been stuffed down our throats. Wake-up Americans or we will soon be slaves to the State. We are close to being slaves already.

    20. Dennis A. Social Cir says:

reid has gone off his rocker, the dems and obama are setting up a dictatorship for this country. The American people have been lead down a rosey path to ruin. If we allow this to continue the country we all know and love will be no longer.

I am a Veteran, so pelosi has declared me a terroist, I fought for this country, and would again, but not for the country that obama, reid and pelosi are trying to make. It is past time for the people to get off their collective butts and let the political parties know that enough is enough. We must go back to the basics, hard work, is what made this country, hard work will bring this country back

    21. Lady D, Texas says:

I think it is about time that someone stepped up in office and did something for all of us "poor" people out there who can not afford healthcare and do not get to go to the doctor when we are sick or in need of medical attention! I can not wait for Obama to put this into effect! I will finally get to go to a doctor, get my meds that I am supposed to be on, and fix everything that needs to be fixed! Go Obama!!! I think all of these close minded people who can not see what a great thing this could be are all blinded by money and too stupid to see a good thing!!!

    22. Ron Derry NH says:

The people who are gaining from medicaid, medicare and all the other government programs have no clue the danger and the risk at how close we are to financial collapse.

The reason we are printing money and borrowing it is we can't afford what we have now and the programs are monetarily unsustainable.

Congress is keeping a brave face on while they look to grab a financial stream from some part of the economy because they believe some how the engines of American business will some how manage to get started again despite the %40 loss of worth that a devaluating dollar is doing.

Euphoric delight being expressed as if this is not a cataclysmic financial event that may not reduce service or Americans worth and buying power are ludicrous.

The day they printed 787 billion dollars was the day America went bust! Not only did that action define it, but it may also have been the nail in the coffin.

How they get us back to some semblance of what we made and built over these last 50 years is any ones guess but the fact of the matter is the impact has been delayed only until they can find a way to replace that 787 billion dollars plus interest.

No one will be unaffected by the loss of value that printing and borrowing moneys does. No one will escape the devaluation, loss of service, loss of worth and loss of privileges that are sure to come as the money supply cheapens Americans worth and government programs.

If it was reckless to lower interest rates on homes and inflate their value to create easy money, then how wrong is it to do the same to the country by printing more easy money? How is doing the same thing ever going to resolve the monetary worth situation if the same game is used to attempt a correction? Monetary worth is sustained by human value and effort, it is dwindled by government printing and altering the value through taxation.

All government programs as well as Americans final worth will succumb to the realization of the monetary worth against world markets. Obama cheapened us by 787 billion…it will come home to roost in every ones service, taxes and economic security.

It is the single biggest reason the government is aggressively seeking an in house monetary solution disguised as health care……that industry is the last American enterprise still having a cash flow yet to be ceased by Congress.

Socialism isn't pretty but its based on monetary slaughter of personal worth, then reduces that value as more and more people loss the economics that sustained the original worth.

The Marxist ideal should be fought at all costs because in the end it will cost all.

    24. Colleen Heuser, Loui says:

Would it be possible to say that every Congressman read any bill before voting on it. Then each one comes on TV in their home district to explain every aspect of the bill and why they are voting for or against it. If they do not read the bill, then they should be fired immediately, with no pension and no health care as they now have, but will have to pay for it out of their own pocket. I know it is probably against the Constitution, but so is the take over of private industries, like the auto makers, banks, etc.

      Thank you.

    25. James Green, NM says:

Dear H / F: O and the secret meetings going on w/o Rep presentation is totally wrong. I still do not understand how this public option is to work, but at the same time do not want our health care to end up as Canada's or the UK's. Too much gov't is not good – PERIOD. This better not be approved; unless the insurance companies can cross state lines – what's the problem with that anyway? Has not been clarified thoroughly. More competition is always a good thing!

    26. The Cycologist, Wisc says:

The original projection of 1990 Medicare cost was $12 billion versus $110 billion actual, a difference of almost a factor of 10, not 100.

    27. Wallyblu, Zion, IL says:

The voters must remember this when it comes to election time.

All the politicians who vote for this massive takeover of healthcare won't be talking about how they voted on this bill they will be talking about prayer in school, abortion, etc. and other things that will never be settled and waltz right into another term to vote away our freedom.

    28. Ben C, Ann Arbor says:

Ron Derry – well said. I hope the Ken's from Las Vegas read your postings for you are right on. But Ken is on Medicare and he likes it – until of course the federal government decides he is costing everyone too much and is cut off. Sadly it appears that few if any politicians study the past and learn from the mistakes made by others. When inflation hits, as it will, the Ken's will be crying loudly. My guess is that Obama will be gone and whoever is the President will get the blame. Fortuntely, sound bytes and You-Tube will be recording the downfall and those who created this mess will be held accountable.

    29. LeRoy Reed says:

We agree, Vote them all out!!! All those stupid fools in our governmnet just want to sit in their soft chairs and collect our money. Obama, Polosi and Reid are bound and determined to make this country asocialist country. How stupid is this??? Those 3 ought to be in a nut farm.. Plus all mthe rest of the government!!We have worked hard to keep this country free….. They have been trying to ruin it for a long time!!! We are yelling and screaming to what end. The Obamas are taking advantage of the white house. We wouldn't want them in our house. Seems as tho they are trying to get even for all years their people were slaves!!! Obama has no idea what it was really like, back then!!!!!!!!Bet those kids of theirs are little snobs, by now. That is too bad as they will grow up bitter and not liked!!!Looks as though Mrs. Obama is really taking advantage of the White House situation!!Hope she is paying for all her services with all the money she makes!! Ha! We must stop the Madness that is ruining this great country!!! HELP!!!!!!!!

    30. Prevailer76AZ says:

This Health Care boon-doggle hasn't even been voted on, let alone read by anyone but Harry Reid, but already there are changes in people's health care coverage. Those on Health Net have been informed their insurance will expire in December. When I had a prescription filled yesterday, my very good insurance carried a new, small niggling bit of a no-sense-at-all imposition.

We are at the mercy of shadow government already in charge; a coup that was well in place even before Obama was elected. How do we combat this kind of power grab?

    31. Thomas Moore, San Di says:

The health care bill is not about health, it's all about more taxes and control. Why not register Independent (Indie)? No need to change your political views, be they liberal or conservative. Indies can attack politicians biggest fears: not being re-elect, term limits, tax revolts, and loss of power. We need more candidates voices and voter choices.

If not you then whom? If today then when?

      stay well,

We believe Obama wants this country to go down the tube! This means that he can then be the dictator he wants to be …Believe he wants a on-world government! Now, just how would everyone like that!!!!! I'm sorry, but this is what we see coming, UNLESS something is done to STOP IT!!!! Obama needs to be gotten out of there, along with the rest of the government, no later but NOW!!!!!Someone must listen up there and realize just what is happening(guess they do) but are following like a bunch of sheep!! We were living pretty good, until Obama got in!!!!ANOTHER thing, we get really upset with the TV stations, when the find everything so funny, so much of the time. What is that??? We find it quite serious! Even FOX does this!!!

    35. Ellen King New Alexa says:

"We will win, because there is no other option" Yeah!! That is the first good news I have heard!! It IS starting to look better for our side!!

    36. Allan Turska, Florid says:

Illogical statement. "Most Americans are right of center".

The sum of most Americans is the center.

    37. zita williams Coars says:

Why would anyone with any common sense think that the bills that are being talked about in the house and senate will be a solution to anything but stupidity. We will have just as many if not more people uninsured. All of our taxes will increase. Our premiums for healthcare will increase and our healthcare (?) will decrease. All this healthcare talk is about medicare and medicade which this country can't afford the way it is now so lets just tax the heck out of everyone and everything so we can decrease the number of citizens in the U.S. and ruin the best healthcare system in the world. Our politicians should be ashamed of themselves and I hope that some day we will have representives in Washington that will represent us as they should.

    38. Barb, Ohio says:

None of it is going to matter if Obama signs the UN climate treaty in Copenhagen. Our constitution will be null and void.

With these globalists you need to watch what the left hand is doing while we're concentrating on the right. Focus America, because if we see the handwriting on the wall government run health care is only the distraction.

    39. mindy from chattanoo says:

I do not want the federal government running health care! I do not care if they call it coop, opt out, pelosi plan, reid's jam it down your throat plan, public option, consumer option…IT IS WHAT IT IS…COMMUNIST HEALTH CARE OWNED AND RUNNED BY THE GOVERNMENT! NO THANK YOU!!!!!!

      Ask Americans these questions:

      Do you trust:

      Insurance companies….X

      Federal government

Do you want government to run your health care?

Do you think government concerned about Americans or increasing the size of government?

      Size of Government….X

Do you think politicians know more about your health care or you and your doctor?

And those people in DC do not pay attention to what Americans want! So my guess is that they are working on making sure we do not have another American election in 2010 and 2012 and are trying to make our country into a communist country by that time! That is why they are not paying attention to millions of letters, emails and the march on DC!

In my town we have letter writing groups and overnight letters by the thousand…do the same in your towns!

People are too emotional about this Obama health care bill. It would be wonderful if all the people took an analytical look at the whole thing – the $'s do not work; are the people currently working in the US (60% of us??) willing to turn over, up to 70% of our pay check with the added universal health care system? We all want to help the down and out peopel, but there are better ways to help instead of making the entire country "down and out" – living on 30% of a paycheck equals down and out…as an engineer I am amazed at lawyers and politicians who run their "work/professions" on emotions with not true, detailed, SURVEYED, TESTED studies to support their policies…how superficial….

    41. James Frazee, Arkans says:

The Health Care and Cap & Trade Bills are an abomination against America and demonstrate the incompetance, lack of concern for our debt situation, and irresponsibility of most in the US Congress. America needs to start thinking about 2010, all House members are up for re-election and 1/3 of the Senators. American needs to clean house and get some fiscal responsibility and hopefully Representatives that have done more in their life than just "feed off the public trough" like most in Congress today including the President and VP. Congressional Representatives are paid by the American Taxpayers upwards to $200,000 plus Cadillac benefit packages plus each has an expense account of between $2,000,000 and $4,000,000 each. You'd never guess they worked for American Taxpayers would you? We need to fire a bunch of them, maybe that would get their attention!

    42. Dean-Texas/Alaska says:

This is about the destruction of America, and ALL the values of the founding fathers. Everything the Obama administration is doing IS

      a hate crime.

    44. Dave Boner says:

The Feb. 25th meeting of Obama and the Republicans is useless and a waste of time. Why would someone sit in a six hour meeting discussing legislation that has no chance of of passage. All Mr. Obama wants is to satisfy a campaign promise. So he has offered an olive branch to the opposition! The Democratic legislators have had their meeting(s) without the Republicans. By the way, Health-care is dead this year! Why doesn't he do something that stands a chance of positive results instead of just a rerun show?

How about Tax-Cuts to small business and do not substitute a stimulus package! How about the Cap & Trade legislation over an industry that is predicated upon a hoax! It is quite obvious that a Healthcare bill and a Cap & Trade bill would basically bankrupt this country.

On the other hand, since virtually all of the environmental legislation and existing regulatory agencies are based upon myths, why not remove the agencies and the present legislation by an appropriate dual-house Congressional commission. The financial savings from such action would very easily cure our deficit budget balances!
