  • If Obamacare Is So Great...

…then why does Nevada need protection from it? The New York Times reports:

The Senate majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, has secured a special deal protecting his state against the costs of expanding Medicaid under one of the major health care bills moving through Congress.

Now Mr. Baucus has modified the bill to spare Nevada and three other states, and Mr. Reid, who faces a potentially difficult race for re-election next year, is taking credit for getting a “major increase” in federal money for his state.

All of the versions of Obamacare currently in Congress cover more uninsured Americans by expanding Medicaid. But the Baucus bill keeps its total price tag below $1 trillion by shifting the most cost to the states. As Heritage’s Center for Health Policy wrote shortly after the Baucus bill was released:

Under the Baucus bill, there is no real relief for states in the cost of the current program. States will still face a steep budget cliff in December 2010 when the federal matching formula for Medicaid payment expires. Adding additional costs through expansion of eligibility and benefits is adding people to a sinking boat. Even with the federally financed enhanced match rates, states will still face increased costs. So will individuals and families.

The Baucus bill also fails to provide the states with the flexibility they desperately need to manage their current program in an effective and cost-efficient manner.

      Isn't this just great!

So, states who have the most illegal aliens (and soon to be legal aliens through amnesty) are really going to get hosed.

Meanwhile, there is absolutley no serious measures to stop illegal immigration EVEN IF an amnesty goes into effect?

So, we turn the spicket on and keep it running?

THERE IS NO COST ESTIMATE THAT WILL SUSTAIN THIS – NONE! State representatives had better get serious about confronting Washington and UNITE for some State's Rights.

This is sheer evil. Congress has a lot of nerve investigating any crime syndicate when they are pulling this garbage under the supposed "rule of law".

We are sick of the abuse. We are sick of these career money-grabbing sharks.

    2. J.C. Hughes, Texas says:

May this U.S. congress forever hang their heads in total shame. Hear our message from July 4th, 1776 "When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with one another …" I'm begging individual states to stop this healthcare madness at the federal level. Even if it means divorce from these reckless socialist power grabbers.

    3. Bobbie Jay says:

The way this government is conducting itself, we'll be killed off at our expense under Obamacare, while no one is held accountable.

This government has no solutions! NOT ONE HONEST SOLUTION. EVERY IDEA THIS GOVERNMENT HAS IS COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE WHILE STEALING FROM THE PEOPLE AND MORE THEN JUST THEIR HARD EARNED, HONEST INCOME! THEY ARE STEALING ALL POSITIVE HUMAN QUALITIES, (as they reward the irresponsible at the cost of the responsible) TO THE STEALING OF THE FREEDOMS OF THIS COUNTRY!!

WHAT MORALS DOES THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT FOLLOW?????

Why is there a disconnect between those ardent supporters of the democrats health care bill and the fact that Congress will exempt themselves from it? Does it not seem a bit odd to them that Congress will do this? If the bills are so good for the rest of us why is it not for them? Is it just blind arrogance, stupidity or are these supporters really that blinded by, and committed to, to Obama?

    7. FRANK COLLATT says:

WOWWW!! Did I just read this article correctly? Sen. Harry Reid made special provisions for Nevada? Why would he do something like that? Exactly how is this "cost shifting to the states" suppose to work; given the current state of the economy? Did Sen. Baucus and Sen. Reid invent some new fuzzy math? The United States of America is "going broke", and so are many states. OBAMACARE will be the final nail in Our Nation's Coffin given the disgraceful leadership provided by the radical left-wing Democrats in our Congress. Let's fix the problems in Congress with the 2010 Vote, then we can look at Health Care Reform. I have a feeling a lot of Americans will feel a lot better when some of these disgraceful Congressmen get voted right out of office!!

    8. Bill Dayton, OH says:

Why should I pay for this when these four states are exempt? What's fair is fair. If it's good enough for citizens of Ohio, and the other 45 states it should be good enough for Nevada, and the other three states exempted.

    9. RG St Simons Is says:

This is where the 17th ammendment needs to be repealed!! The states no longer have a voice in how the Emperial Federal Gonernment "dumps" on them. They just have to take it. If senators were once again appointed by the states as they were before the 17th ammendment, then the Senate would rise up against this.

      Repeal the 16th and 17th.

      institute the FairTax

      Abolish the IRS

      Close the borders

Kick the UN to Haiti [see if they can fix that country first]

      Abolish the Dept of Energy

      Abolish the Dept of Education

      Sunset all laws and programs

I could go on, but that's a good place to start. Think we could find a candidate to run on that? Now that would be change we can believe in!

    10. Ken from Tempe,Az. says:

Will someone please order a "Code Red"….Col.Jesup, can you hear me?

    11. Bill Dayton, OH says:

      J.C. Hughes,

I like your comment. That is exactly what states should do. Let's divorce these reckless spenders in Washington.

    12. BJB, Port Allen, LA says:

      I agree with you J C Hughes …amen

    13. Da Dog says:

All laws should apply to all citizens – period. These elitist hacks have no shame whatsoever. We The People have been watching the travesty of our inefficient, corrupt and manipulative "leadership" for a very long time and WE ARE NOT HAPPY. "Let Them Eat Cake" has become quite tiresome. Let us pray that the outcome is not as colorful as the French Revolution.

    14. Russ Brecheen/Nashvi says:

Readers, 2010, 2010, 2010, not too far away, so lets get in the mode of dumping the idots in DC such as to name a few, Reid, Pelosi, Shummer, Rangel, Boxer, Fienstein and a lot more not to mention. We need to get the rest of the Senators and Congressmen to take a course on the United States Constitution that was signed in 1776! If they can't pass it, dump them period! I have lived in this country and my city for 75 years, sevred in the military during the Korean conflict, proudly fly our Ameican Flag daily under cover, proud of our military, America is beautiful as I have been in all 50 states and we need to protect her, proudly obey our laws, pay my taxes, volunteer in my city daily to help our community environmentlly safe for our citizens, but in this past year I have not been happy how things are going in the last 8 months under the present leadership, it's really discusting. So let's keep up the good fight and keep the Town Hall meetings moving foward as this will scare the heck of them. Thank you for reading my post. RB

    15. DW, Falcon, CO says:

The Leadership of our Congress is disgraceful to say the least. The gall of them to exempt their own state from the very same taxation that will befall 45 other states is beyond incredulous. It just shows their contempt for the people whom they are there to serve.

Again, I have to ask the question to which I have asked on every blog I've commented in. Where in the Constitution does it say that we have a right to health care? Thus where are they getting the authority to create such ludicrous bills as they have thrown out for us to be expected to accept? This is a state function vice Fed Gov't. They are over reaching their authority.

I have to agreee with RG St Simons. His comments provide a good starting point.

    16. American Miles, USA says:

Article IV Section 4 of the Constitution states: The United States shall guarantee to EVERY STATE in this UNION a REPUBLICAN FORM of Government, and shall PROTECT each of them against INVASION; and on application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the legislature cannot be convened), against Domestic Violence. It was bad enough the states HAD TO ACCEPT the stimulus Bill, which by the way 569 mil is going to Al Gore to build cars for Finland, another 2.5 mil to old Bill for his presidential library, but now to have to accept ControlCare, which is all it really is, goes against this article of the Constitution. I thought all these people including controller in chief were suppose to protect and defend the Constitution, not destroy it. Where is the guarantee of a Republican government? It really won't matter in the end, healthcare won't do any good when Iran drops a few bombs on our head. But hey, all those guys will be protected. They can pick up the pieces. Pray hard, stay strong and let freedom ring.

    17. Gail, Amarillo, Texa says:

The federal government should never have been allowed by our elected representatives to mandate programs that bankrupt states. I was mistakenly under the impression that the states had certain rights that Washington DC could not destroy. I was wrong because DC does whatever it wants.

FYI: Illegals have always received healthcare for free. I used to be an RN who took care of them. Hospitals treat everyone and eat the bill. An illegal pregnant woman may get emergency Medicaid in Indiana and have her baby delivered in a hospital without any problem. If complications arise, Medicaid pays for those also.

Apparently Nevada and the other three states will discriminate against certain groups of people and that is okay with our President. Didn't he just scream about racism? Are the four states rascist? Is Harry Reid racist? I haven't heard anything about it in the news or from the President. I am so very sick of LIARS telling the country how to live and labelling them badly when it is convenient. Yes, I am sick of Harry Reid and his Senators and their news media.

    18. Earl, Queens, NY says:

If National Health Care is so great, why does Congress want to exempt itself from it? If it's so great, why didn't Chris Dodd and Ted Kennedy go to Canada or England for their recent health care needs? If it’s so great, why is there such a big rush to pass it now but it will not go into effect until 2013? Well I think I understand the latter. 2013 is after the 2012 election, so BHO and his democraps think we won’t know what a raw deal they’re forcing onto us and will re-elect them. Let’s be thankful for conservative talk radio hosts and Republicans who are exposing the details of this raw deal. Keep up the good work you guys!! The more truths we hear, the more public support for this raw deal declines. And be alert voters!! Any politician who votes for this raw deal needs to be defeated in 2010 and 2012!!

    19. Bob, Portland, OR says:

Friends in Nevada, whatever deal you think you are getting will be short lived.

This is corruption and deception at it's best.

      Harry must be voted out.

Remember, the worse off our economy is, the less money we will have to spend in your state.

      Viva La 2010!

    20. Woodbridge, Va. says:

The time to BREAK THE DNC DICTATORSHIP is NOW. Once more life-respecting Republicans are added to the House and Senate toward tilting the balance of power back toward the right, the voice of We the People may have a better chance to be heard and rightly served again. May God save America as we determine this November to vote Republican, because your country is a terrible thing to waste. These bills masquerading as health bills are nothing but thinly veiled attempts at a government take-over in Communist fashion, where overtaking health care and depriving the citizenry of their guns were necessary first steps for despots to take the helm and rule with an iron fist. This is still America and we don't have to let that happen. If a majority are not deeply motivated to get out there and vote Republican this year, I'm concerned we may not have much left of the nation by the next electoral cycle – it's critical at this point!

    21. T. Texas says:

Nothing will change until we the people vote "everyone" currently in office "OUT" !! From the local level all the way to Washington, D.C., no matter Democrat or Republican..Vote whatever party you choose but vote the incumbents out..Put em' all on notice !!

    22. Prevailer76AZ says:

The Obama administration is not seeking solutions. The intent is pure and simply a power grab and control over every facet of our lives. Harry Reid's acquisition of special favors for his state is merely a matter of self-preservation. His poll numbers indicate he could well lose the coming election.

    23. Slick in Nebraska says:

SO my question is, "How much cost is too much?" I guess the answer is when all we can afford to do is to quit paying for health care for ourselves, accept the fact that we will owe the government a penalty instead . . . so the 3-5% of the population are covered . . . Hallelujah . .covered at last, covered at last!

Well, maybe the real solution here at the grass roots of America is for ALL of us to quit working, and force the Federal Employees who are EXEMPT from this massacre to pay for ALL of US. Then it will be about 3% of the population (8+ million employees) providing for about 97%, You know how it works by now: if you work hard, pay your taxes, pay your bills, you must be making TOO much so the gov't takes YOUR money and spreads it around to the "have nots". Sounds like Socialism to me!!!!!

    24. DAN MOFFATT says:

DOES AMERICA KNOW THAT FOR A MERE $500.00 A YEAR YOUR CONGRESSIONAL MISFITS HAVE ACCESS TO THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL CARE ANYWHERE? BECAUSE,THEY ARE ON A MISSION.(lol) DO YOU KNOW HOW THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED? THESE WONDERFUL PILLARS OF DECENCY,AND LEGISLATIVE INTEGRITY JUST GO DOWN THE CORRIDOR OF CONGRESS TO THE OFFICE OF THE ATTENDING PHYSICIAN.INSIDE, THESE LAWMAKERS,ARE TREATED ROYALLY,THEY EVEN HAVE PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLAN ACCESS NO EXTRA COST.IF THEIR ILLNESS GOES BEYOND THE USUAL VISITS THE NAVY IS FLOWN IN TO REMEDY ALL THE PROBLEMS.HEY,THATS WHAT I WANT.HOW ABOUT YOU AMERICA?

    25. Ken from Tempe,Az. says:

That's it, enough is enough. As of right now, I want Obama and all Democrats on Double Secret Probation!!

    26. Jerry from Chicago says:

Isn't this just great? Where do the rest of the States line up to get the same kind of exemptions from additional Medicaid costs that Harry Reid managed to finagle?

The lead question says it best, "If Obamacare is so great, why does Nevada need protection from it?" I can't believe the N.Y. Times actually asked the question. Is it possible they are turning into un-American, evil-mongers, in the pay of wealth right-wing intersts? I'm sure Nancy Pelosi will be looking for swastika arm bands being worn by N.Y Times reporters and want the Times itself investigated.

    27. Lynn B. DeSpain says:

I suggest a "Test Run" on the Obama Care System. In fact let us test all of Obabam's suggested Care Systems, on every member of the Senate nad the House who are in agreement with him! A one year trial for each new system, and it needs to include all their family members who would qualify under their current system.

I think that is only fair. Test it on a few, see if it works, then open it up to the rest of America. That's what They require of medicines, isn't it?

    28. Spencer Peters, Cars says:

Prince Harry didn't do it for Nevada…he did it to enhance his chances for reelection next year.

The time is long overdue to clean house. It's not just the "other states" reps who are the problem. It's rampant. If not now, when……?

Time to wake up. Time for action. Time to take back our country from the thieves who are stealing it from us in broad daylight.

    30. Ken St Louis says:

No reason for any state to remain as part of THE UNION THERE IS NO UNION, ONLY A DICTATORSHIP OF THE LEFT! Why would we want to remain part of a bankrupt, ( both financially & morally ) anti American union of incompetent idiots? SECESSION is the answer, just the threat by 15 or so fly overstates would be enough to rein in all these morons?Hopefully!
