  • 40 House Democrats Spreading "Bogus Claims" About Abortion

Throughout his sales pitch to the American people, President Barack Obama has always insisted that his health care plan would not use taxpayer funds to pay for abortions. This despite the fact that President Obama promised Planned Parenthood the exact opposite in 2007. During his September 9th address to Congress, President Obama even said: “Some of people’s concerns have grown out of bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost. … And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up – under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.”

But the New York Times reports today that the only people that believe Obama’s anti-abortion-funding claims are those who support taxpayer funding for abortions. When it comes to people in his own party that actually are pro-life, they do not believe Obamacare goes far enough in preventing taxpayer funded abortions. From the NYT:

Democratic Congressional leaders say the latest House and Senate health care bills preserve the spirit of the current ban on federal abortion financing by requiring insurers to segregate their public subsidies into separate accounts from individual premiums and co-payments.

But opponents say that is not good enough, because only a line on an insurers’ accounting ledger would divide the federal money from the payments for abortions. The subsidies would still help people afford health coverage that included abortion.

Representative Bart Stupak of Michigan, a leading Democratic abortion opponent, said he had commitments from 40 Democrats to block the health care bill unless they have a chance to include the restrictions.

When Obama specifies, like "no federal funding" just means there will be infiltrating of state, city, local funding. Obama will get what he initially stated whether we know it or not.

"No Government competition?" Wow, I didn't realize that the health insurance lobby paid people to post to the Heritage Foundation. If the Government doesn't compete with them, who will? Have you been paying attention to the health insurance industry lately? The field is a little sparse, team-wise, but they've got a lot of players.

Big Government Is NOT the Answer

Your tax dollars are being spent on programs that we really don't need.
