The past week has seen a great deal of talk of a “trigger” compromise to the “public option.” Essentially this would delay the implementation of the government run plan to an unspecified date, subverting the legislative process and offering moderate members of Congress a temporary shield from owning the government bureacracy they are creating. But don’t take our word for it. Here is Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) speaking bluntly in today’s Politico:
Pelosi also warned insurance companies to accept a public option without a trigger, arguing that a public plan triggered by high premiums or other insurer bad behavior would be much harsher than one negotiated now. “They’d be better getting a public option now. … They’ll have a tougher public option to deal with later,” she said.

the trigger is a bad idea because the public option is a bad idea. the republicans need to stick to their free market principles and not be fooled by the wolf in sheep's clothing.

A final comment on the idiocy of The Speaker.
She is a legendary fund raiser. Her state sends the most delegates to the House. She is also a workaholic.
She may not be articulate and she does trip all over herself like numerous other politicians. Her father was a mayor in Baltimore. She has learned the political game well and can sharpen and use knives with the best of them.
She is a formidable opponent with what many would term radical leftist views. You do not get elected Speaker without the support of the members of the House when there are so many obviously better candidates for the Democrats. All this shows is that the liberal left wing controls the majority of the Democrats. And, don't forget that California has the largest liberal delegation.
What amazes me is that Democrats know she is divisive, yet they keep her in charge.
Americans have underestimated her ilk for 35 years and look where we are now.
