Having said that, we also need to spend a large amount of energy making sure we only fight the necessary fights. I suggest that we all work to make sure that smart use of military is a priority for the current and future administrations. It's just as wasteful to fight unnecessary wars as it is to have politicians cutting the defense budget. I'd like to see both a strong defense budget AND smart use of our fine military. Is that too much to ask?

A strong military is a must and we should always keep our “big stick” option visible and viable. I cannot fathom the US winning WWII with the same restraints that our military has today. Give me one good reason to have the best air force in the world when we can't use them to kill the enemy. In WWII countless civilians were killed by carpet bombing and now a pilot is charged with crimes if he hits the wrong target when flying at 600 kts and 500 feet. Our boots on the ground are graded by isolated TV footage on ABC, CNN and NBC and god help them if one civilian is bruised. Our elected "representatives" spend more time critisizing our soldiers rather than supporting them. War is killing and destroying the enemies possessions and their will to fight. MSM and politicians are America's worst enemy. We really need to recall all of our military from foreign soil and let the barbarians kill each other. 0bama and his cohorts only use the military to provide jobs and contractor incentives to build better weapons.

We might as well not have a military any more because they are so hamstrung by liberal politicians that they cannot do their job without ending up in jail. Put another way, if you're going to "...tread softly but carry a big stick..." it's a good idea to give others a "view of that stick", from time to time. To do that, however, you must actually HAVE the stick. To be sure, that's still no guarantee, but it can be guaranteed that nobody will be fooled for long, if you don't have it. So it's in the best interest of a safer world, from which few benefit more than we who live by production and free trade, to "keep our stick up to date", in a manner of speaking. Not doing so will only invite tyrannical regimes to play it "deuces wild", hoping they can get away with it, which in turn will only cause us far greater expense in the future. Seen in this light, the Administration's policies can only be described as criminally shortsighted. They're "loafing on the job" and ought to, at a minimum, not have their "contracts renewed"!

America did something like this once before, between WW1 and WW2, and it is fair to say that this course helped to mislead some tyrannical regimes into the (mistaken) belief they would ultimately have nothing to fear from us.
