Will Entire Obama Agenda Crumble In August?

Poll after poll is demonstrating that the Americans turning out at townhalls across the country are making President Barack Obama’s health care plan less and less popular. But health care is not the only Obama agenda item that is dying a slow death. Bloomberg reports: The U.S. Senate should abandon efforts to pass legislation curbing greenhouse-gas emissions this year and concentrate on a narrower bill to require use of renewable energy, four Democratic lawmakers say. “The problem of doing both of them together is that it becomes too big of … More

Lawrence O’Donnell Is Spreading Misinformation About Health Care

Earlier this morning we linked to video of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, mother of two Katy Abram, who challenged Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) to abandon his support of Obamacare and start defending the Constitution. Hardball fill-in Lawrence O’Donnell took offense to Mrs. Abram’s arguments and had her on Hardball Wednesday night. We’ve transcribed the relevant portion of their exchange below: O’Donnell: Do you and your family have health insurance?

Morning Bell: Is Obamacare Consistent With Our First Principles?

During one of Sen. Arlen Specter’s (D-PA) early health care townhalls in Lebanon, Pennsylvania; mother of two Katy Abram told the audience: “I don’t believe this is just about health care. It’s not about TARP. It’s not about left and right. This is about the systematic dismantling of this country. I’m only 35 years-old. I’ve never been interested in politics. You have awakened the sleeping giant.” Abrams is dead on. Our federal government has, unfortunately, long been drifting away from the limited government principles first envisioned by our founders. But over … More

Webb v. The Consensus on Burma

U.S. Senator James Webb (D-VA) is in Burma today. News reports indicate that he will be meeting with junta leader Than Shwe in what is being billed as the first ever meeting between the junta chief and a U.S. official. Coming just days after the regime extended the detention of Democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi, the meeting will certainly serve to validate the junta at a time when international revulsion has reached one of its periodic, crisis driven peaks. This is unfortunate. But there is more at stake than … More

White House Battle Against Free Speech Grows

Yesterday, White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said on Fox News: “This White House supports free speech.” Now, it is hardly comforting to know we have a White House that feels it has to defend that position. It’s akin to saying, ‘this White House supports oxygen,’ but the behavior of senior White House officials over the past few weeks has brought us to this point. A concerted and coordinated effort against cable news channels and their personalities; radio hosts and regular citizens from every walk of life has made … More

On the Fed, the Journal’s Readers Deserve Better

The snarky aside is a common tool substituting for a sound argument. Sadly, a Wall Street Journal editorial today gave in to the temptation. The subject was the announcement by the Federal Reserve that it would maintain its basic, highly accommodative monetary policy stance for “an extended period”. The Fed also announced it would suspend its special program to buy Treasury debt in an effort to create downward pressure on long-term interest rates. There is a lot of debate in economic and financial circles as to whether the Fed has, … More

Gunner was diagnosed with the deadly genetic disease, cystic fibrosis (CF) two months after birth. His parents are on a mission to protect the health care choices they have that allow them to seek out the best care possible for young Gunner. Through the website HealthcareforGunner.com, a Facebook page and media appearances, Gunner’s parents are educating the public on how they believe Obamacare would change Gunner’s life for the worse. They released this video this week.

How’s That Government Run Health Care Working Out Canada?

The Vancouver Sun reports: Vancouver patients needing neurosurgery, treatment for vascular diseases and other medically necessary procedures can expect to wait longer for care, NDP health critic Adrian Dix said Monday. Dix said a Vancouver Coastal Health Authority document shows it is considering chopping more than 6,000 surgeries in an effort to make up for a dramatic budgetary shortfall that could reach $200 million. … Dr. Brian Brodie, president of the BC Medical Association, called the proposed surgical cuts “a nightmare.”

Cash for Clunkers: Robbing Peter to Pay Paul

In this case Paul is the auto industry, as if they haven’t gotten enough help from American taxpayers, and Peter is the retail industry and, of course, the American taxpayer: “Retail sales outside of autos turned in a disappointing performance in July, underscoring concerns about the timing and durability of a recovery from the worst recession since World War II.The Commerce Department said Thursday that retail sales fell 0.1 percent last month. Economists had expected a gain of 0.7 percent. While autos, helped by the start of the Cash for … More

Townhall Downfall: Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) Admits Obamacare Will Fund Abortions

The New York Times and FactCheck.org both claim that Obamacare will not allow taxpayer funding of abortion. As this townhall video shows, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) disagrees:
