  • British MEP Daniel Hannan on Reason.tv

This March we highlighted British MEP Daniel Hannan’s impassioned critique of Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s borrow-spend-bailout policies. Then earlier this month, we sat down with Hannan for three minutes before his Heritage speech on how Americans can avoid Europe’s mistakes. Hannan has now also sat down with Reason.tv to discuss, his Brown speech, the British National Health Service, and what conservative could learn from the recent successes of Britain’s Conservative Party.

Britain adopting Jeffersonian thoughts as we reject them. Priceless. God help us before it's too late!

How I wish we Republican's had a man or a woman who could deliver that same speech of Mr. Hannon's to Mr. Obama on national TV before a joint session of Congress.

Hearing this man speak is inspirational. He is a model of conservative statesmanship.

I believe that Dick Morris has the ability to write such a speech, but not necesarily the chrisma to carry it off. I would love to hear Newt Gengrich deliver the speech, but Newt is far more effective behind the cameras than in front of them these days. I believe the Republicans need a new standard bearer, one who is level headed, fearless and a great communicator. We need a candidate for President who is more than just Republican, one who will espouse conservative values and lead on the basis of those values and not someone who is afraid of offending liberals or constantly trying to accomodate them.

    7. David , Michigan says:

We need to change the name and mission of the Republican party to the Conservative Party. Then change the attitude of the current members in Congress or vote them out of office. Make them follow the Constitution as it was written and stop trying to modify it to suit their aspirations for power.

When someone who has survived falling off of a cliff tells you that it hurts, trusts them, and don't jump!

Those in favor of 'public option' or 'single payer' can not find any past historical refernce that proves their point. They tell us that the 'savings can be managed' through 'economies' and 'electronic filing' – theory, no substance.

I want to know who was Obama's teacher of Constitutional Law and remove his or her tenure.
