  • Quote of the Day: Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI)

In an interview with the Detroit News, Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow said:

Climate change is very real. Global warming creates volatility and I feel it when I’m flying. The storms are more volatile.

Anyone else out there “feeling” global warming, or do we merely need to pass an anti-turbulence tax to satisfy the good Senator?  As Detroit News contributor Henry Payne noted: “And there are sea monsters in Lake Michigan. I can feel them when I’m boating.”

    1. Bridget Sawmiller Mi says:

Debbie Stabenow, not the brighest bulb in the bunch, are you kidding me, she is a joke and we should get her out of office when she is up for re-election.

    2. Sam, E. Lansing says:

These people not only vote, they’re being elected!!

    3. Gary Heath Huntingto says:

I felt a tingle run up my leg when I read this.

Just for the record, I didn't vote for her. Wake up Michigan

    4. Jeff, Iowa says:

To add to Sam's comment – These people not only vote and get re-elected, they are also the ones writing the global warming legislation!

That ought to make your day a little brighter… ;)

    5. Gary Green, Phoenix says:

“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.” —Plato

    6. Bobbie Jay says:

What exactly is she flying on? The people in government, who refuse to grasp reality, need to be drug tested!

    7. Roger S., Ma. says:

Sure, pass the tax. That's what she wants anyway, so she can "help" Queen Nancy to pay for the new Gulfstream. Nancy can then drop her off over Michigan on her next trip west. Feel the "volatility" on the way down to her next Town Hall. Maybe she'll learn something ?

    8. Kurt Z. in St. Louis says:

You've finally convinced me Senator!I'm so happy that someone finally came out with true scientific evidence regarding global warming! Thank you Senator for doing what no one else has been able to do successfully. WOW!!! More Cash for Clunkers is what I say! That'll fix it!

    9. Wendy says:

Apparently she has never read any history of the Earth. Our planet has been changing for billions of years. Ummm, Debbie have you ever read about the mini ice age of the 15 century? Ok, ok, maybe you have read about the continents shifting together or apart? No? ever read or researched about how the Swiss Alps were formed any why there are fossils of sea creatures hundreds of feet above sea level and thousand of miles away from any ocean or sea? Here is a novel idea! Stop "feeling" and start thinking with your brain.

    10. Lisa, Washington Tow says:

Congresswoman, might I gently suggest the "volatility" you "feel" could perhaps be gas pains? Bean-O or Gas-X would provide more relief for your symptoms than a tax hike on your constituants.

    11. matthew, queens n.y. says:

simply frightening. these people supposedly are our leaders. last one out turn off the lights the party's over!

    12. Scott Brown Tennesse says:

Now I know why they are pro-choice, The left should not be allowed to breed!

    13. Ian, Warren, Michiga says:

The fact is that Michigan is experiencing a cooler than average summer. The general trend for ths last couple of years has been that way.

Perhaps this volatility Senator Stabenow feels is akin to Chris M.'s tingling and other neurologic problems liberals seem to be suffering from these days.

    14. Bill W, Auburn Hills says:

She is a moron, I have voiced my opposition regarding this bill, the so called health care plan, and many other spending bills and always receive a message back saying thanks but we need this. Hopefully she fails in the next election.

    15. adolph marmetschke u says:

somehow i always knew that i was not the only person in the world who got that wonderful'floating"feeling;the exagerated turbulence;the spinning feeling in my head.wonder if the wine had anything to do with it?

    16. tk hawaii says:

May she should drive gmc car instead of flying, and safe taxpayers of mich money.

    17. NIcole Jackson Michi says:

I am embarassed that this is my senator. How does this woman keep getting re-elected?

    18. Bruce Pott Michigan says:

I am embrassed to call Ms Stabenow my representative in the U.S. Senate. The global temp. has actually gone down for two straight years. Maybe,Debbie, it's the cooler air that is causing the turbulence. Chew on that for a while and get back to me.

    19. Will, Massachusetts says:

Sam, you've got that right! I've got one word for you…. 'nucular'

    20. Rebecca, Sumrall, M says:

There are idiots in the Senate and Congress.

I feel it when I read their comments…

    21. Mike, Memphis, TN says:

Memphis, top 5 coolest July's on record. Give them time, the global cooling crisis is just around the corner…..or is global warming causing global cooling? Something to think about.

    22. Tom, Cleveland OH says:

Maybe taking the train solves her issue…or do I feel a new Democrat agenda item in the making?

    23. Ron Rose says:

"Climate change is very real. Global warming creates volatility and I feel it when I’m flying. The storms are more volatile".

She is talking about when she is in a plane? I havn't noticed a differance and I live in hotter n h-ll country!

    24. JOHN KOZUL says:

      why wait.

      Get her out oou now!

    25. RandyRobison.com, Te says:

      Congratulations, people of Michigan.

    26. Terry Moravec says:

I'm certain it's much easier to feel volatility while flying a broom.

    27. Pingback: News for 08/13/2009-The Antics Never Stop « Soldier For Liberty

    28. Dawn Brandli says:

Is global warming the reason we've had one of the coolest summers here in Michigan???

No wonder Michigan is in deep economic trouble — we're still waiting to be "blown away" by Jen and now Debbie is contributing to global warming by flying!!!

Thanks for the good laugh! I needed a good "belly" laugh!

    29. Jean, NC says:

People in Congress wonder why their approval rating is so low? Does Stabenow have bats in her belfrey? Ya think?

    30. BABS says:

She is also the public servant that has been pushing for the "Censorship Doctrine." I mean the "Fairness Doctrine." I wouldn't trust Stabenow to run a bake sale for an elementary school! How do people like this get elected?

    31. Jeff, Dallas, TX says:

This woman is a colossal jewel of ignorance. I heard it once said, "it is sad being stupid…what is even sadder, though, is being stupid and not knowing you're stupid…" This is the only way to sum up Debbie Stabenow.

    32. Larry, New Jersey says:

Don't get on Stabenow's case. Get on the fools who voted her into office! Shame on them!

    33. Steve, Florida says:

Those sudden turbulant jolts she is feeling are from all the hot air rising from Obama and his wonks in Congress as they town hall the American plains with heated lies.

    34. Tony DiMinno says:

Debbie Stabenow makes my case for term limits. We need a referendum on term limits as it will never happen if left to the people who vote themselves raises, retirement benifits, health care etc. It was never intended by our founders that politicians would become extremely wealthy by going to congress.

    35. Father Kingsbury, L. says:

      I see moonbats.

    36. Bob, Portland, OR says:

Debbie has a "feeling" there is global warming. Finaly, we have some scientific evidence that proves without a doubt there is real climate change and a need for CAP and Hustle.

    37. Pat, Georgia says:

Is there any democrat in Washington worth talking about? Gee, I can't think of any.

    38. linda Ca says:

I second everyone and include the rest of those in congress. I am so tired of them. they probably have not even read the constitution let alone the healthcare bill.

    39. Aida, Fl. says:

This woman brains are burnt. She has no common sense and I hope voters show her the door throwing her out of her comfort seat for ever. Birds have more brains than her, as most of them who had been elected to government who just want to be in power to enriched their bank accounts who don't give a hoot about us citizens. We need a real clean up, electing true American servants! This bunch in the administration thinks we all are stupid morons and they have to tell us what to say and do. Wake up Americans, the cup is full already! Thrown them out!~

    40. Jeff Wollet, Holt, M says:

Sen. Stabenow and Levin have been morons for years. The unfortunate part is that my peers in Michigan, (not just a MI problem), are too lazy to think before they go to the polls, so like most elections we just vote for the familiar name. Unless we wake up (and I think we are) we deserve exactly what we are getting.

    41. ronaldo, Vermont says:

Stop criticizing Senator Dabenow. She's right!

I feel it too, every morning, right around the time the sun comes thru my bedroom window. But the darnednest thing seems to happen every evening. For no apparent reason, it just seems goes away.

    42. George Minnesota says:

Terms limit is the answer, but I live in Minnesota we have comedians so I guess Michigan does too.

    43. Ben Franklin says:

… and these people thought W was stupid…??

    44. Michael Webb says:

I think an anti-turbulence bill is in order, NOT!

      What a bunch of non-thinkers!

    45. dr_donn says:

Think about all of the times you flew somewhere, how many times did you fly in a storm. I think maybe her flights were on the ground and chemically induced.

    46. Tom, Alexandria, La says:

Dump Congress 2010! This is a purely bi-partisan effort. I f you are democrat or republican send your congressman packing! Vote against the incumbent. It is time to send them home!

    47. Jim in Wisconsin says:

      Debbie, Debbie, Debbie!

      You've confused turbulence with flatulence.

Take four Beanos and calm down.

    48. Guy, GR Michigan says:

      Responding to Larry, New Jersey

For the record, the "Fools" you are referring to are the many union morons who are not capable of thinking for themselves and are either told or coerced in some way to vote the way the unions tell them. Southeast Michigan for the most part, controls the political direction of Michigan.

    49. Dr. Bombay says:

Senator Debbie here's a little reality that you might like to include in your totally unexamined life ….

Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) is a theory (hypothesis). It is an unproven theory. What you do with theories is put them to the test with scientific observations. Let's see what data points we now have:

      1) Average annual temperatures have not surpassed 1998 (NOAA)

      (University of Alabama)

      2) Average annual temperatures are now trending downward since 1998

      (NOAA) (University of Alabama)

      3) Ocean temperatures have not risen since 2000 when the 3000 Argo buoys

were launched. The buoys even show a slight decrease in ocean temperatures

      4) The Arctic ice froze to February levels by December 07, there are 1mm

more sq km than before (previous was 13mm sq km)

      5) The Arctic ice is 20cm thicker than "normal" (whatever that is)

      6) All polar bear pods are stable or growing (NOAA/PBS)

      7) Mount Kilimanjaro is not melting because of global warming, rather

      "sublimation"

      8) The Antarctic is not "melting", it is growing in most places, the

sloughing off at the edges is normal as the ice mass grows

      9) The majority of the Antarctic is 8 degrees below "normal" (again,

      whatever that is)

      10) The coveted .7 degree rise in temperatures over the last 100 years

has been wiped out with last years below "normal" temperatures (NOAA

      coolest winter since 2001)

      11) Al Gore's film was just deemed "propaganda" in a court of law in the

UK as many points could not be substantiated by scientists

      12) It was also just reveled that some of the footage in Als film was

CGI. The ice shelf collapse was from the movie The Day After Tomorrow (ABC)

      13) One of the scientists that originally thought that CO2 preceded the

warming has now found with new data that the CO2 rise follows the

      warming (Dr David Evans)

      14) August 2008 was the first time since 1913 there were no sun spots.

      15) The Medieval Warm Period was warmer than the 20th century (no SUVs)

      16) Many scientists are now predicting 30 years of cooling.

      17) The greenhouse effect is real, our small contribution to it cannot

      even be measured

      18) Several publications, including those that are warmist have recently

written that the natural cycles of the earth may mask AGW. Give me a break. source http://911essentials.com

    50. Bob, Portland, OR says:

By the way, if you think people like Debbie are strange and freightening now, just wait until they get their hands on the health care and cap and trade money. If this happens, all of your "extra" income will be their's. To them, there is too much "unnecessary" cash out there, they don't have any plans to give it to the poor, they would rather let it dissipate in to cap and hustle and health care fraud.

    51. kradad says:

Wonder no more why Michigan is in the condition it's currently in!

This is no different than peole who voted for Obama stratch their heads and wonder why the US is in the shape it's in…

Stupid is as stupid does comes to mind here…

    52. Dennis A. Social Cir says:

The people in DC are all jokes. I guess next they will tell us just because somone is blowing smoke that the forrest is on fire, or they will pee on our leg and make us belive that it is raining. THE ELCTION IS COMING IN 20110, DO WHAT WE HAVE TO TO PUT THEM IN THE ROAD. OH I FORGOT, ACORN IS NOW RUNNING THE SHOW IN ELECTIONS AND THE CENSUS, SO THEY WILL RIG THE VOTER REGISTRATION TO BE SURE THE DEMS AND OBAMA GET WHAT THEY WANT.

    53. John Roane Sarasota says:

Sounds like this Senator gets to high to often on our tax dollars.

    54. Bustedflat, Albuquer says:

Second rate people (such as this Senator) are promoted by powerful interests because such people can be controlled by those interests. This is why mediocre people populate these positions of power. Howard Roark (protagonist in the Fountainhead) said that "The world is perishing from an orgy of self-sacrificing." Roark chose not to be promoted by these people because he refused to be controlled by them. [Gary Cooper played Howard Roark in the movie based on the novel by Ayn Rand.]

    55. Floyd Edick, Livings says:

Wouldn't Will Rogers have a field day with the current crop of politicians. He laugh himself to death trying to pick out the worst. Stabenow is ranked 314th out of the 562 graded on gradegov.com and falling fast. Trouble is, look at the list of clowns below her. Congratulations, Michigan. Youv'e had a real winner for 32 years and she is not even on the supreme court. Your doing it to yourselves.

    56. Jack in missouri says:

my comments are in referrence to Guy in Michigan and Larry in New Jersey…I can sympathize with both. Guy, does this tell you something about unions? When first started they had a legitimate purpose but over the years have become political entities and have far transcended their original intent. Unions and politicians "feed" off each other becoming ever more corrupt and self-defeating of purpose. Politicians have become arrogant, condescending, and hopelessly disconnected from the American electorate and unions have become greedy thugs whose answer to everything seems to be "busting heads". Is it any wonder people despise both so much?? It is everyone else (or the "little man" as the democrats like to call them) that gets caught in this greedy and corrupt net woven by these people. It is no wonder Michigan has a 17% unemployment rate and their economy is in the tank. Just keep voting for morons like Stabenow and joining unions and you will keep getting what you are asking for. People in Michigan are bringing this on themselves I find it hard to feel sorry for them to a large extent. Democrats have always CLAIMED to be for the "little guy" but the fact is they don't give a DAMN about the "little guy" except in-so-far as they can fool and exploit them to expand their power and increase the size and scope of government. They have become slaves and pawns to a politcal elite. As far as I am concerned people who vote for democrats in general are either card-carrying socialist/marxists or brain-dead democrat partisan hacks who think they are still voting for FDR (who was also a socialist)… by the way, I am NOT a republican. In any event, I wish the people of Michigan good luck…they going to need it.

    57. debra, Texas says:

How old is she? I think perhaps she was born in the late 40's and she had one too many stoagies during the 60's.

Dubbies, stoagies, that's what it was called in the 80's when I grew up.

She was probably still stoned when I learned in grammar school that it's not a surprise when the climate changes. It is not suppose to stay the same.

    58. David E Aldridge, Da says:

Somebody please tell this is not real? She really did not say that did she? I think a revolution via election is needed. What idiot in their right mind would come up with such a dumb, brainless statement.

    59. Scott, OK says:

It is people like this that make me think I am well capable of running for office.

    60. Rando, So Cal says:

Maybe she's right, I'm just sitting here and I feel something strange……. Thats it, its global warming. Dont worry the Dems are hard at work and a "Just sitting there Health-Tax" is coming too.

    61. Marshall Hill MI. says:

What are the Proceedures for Recalling Senators?

Let us look into this NOW!

    62. Neil Thompson, Orlan says:

I've also have one of these idiots, Alan Grayson, in congress. He got elected simply because of that little "D" at the end of his name. Obama coat tails. Wouldn't it be interesting if, on final national elections, the ballots did not identify any party affiliation? Voters would actually have to know the name of the person they wished to vote for. Also mix the names up. What a hoot that would be.

    63. jim smith says:

Debbie feels that pressure when she's flying. Can you imagine how much worse it would be if she were flying and in a plane at the same time?

You don't suppose it's those two first class seats she occupys when aloft?

    64. Lucinda, Laguna Beac says:

good luck Michigan! You have got 40 years of this behavior to reverse before you can turn yourselves around… California is not far behind unfortunately…

    65. Randy Califf, Grand says:

Senator Stabenow came to the other side of state (west) the other day and had a closed door meeting with some people. My question is what not meet with the poeple from this side of the state? What is she afraid of? I didn't vote for her!!! maybe the east side will finally wake up and see these people for what the really are!!!!

    66. Carmen Kritzer, Heme says:

Another example of a Al Gore true believer. Stupid- stupid- stupid! God help us all!

    67. Tom Stacey says:

After I finished laughing so hard my stomach was feeling volatile I realized that I live in Michigan and this joke of a "senator" is not so funny.

    68. Jeff; Maine says:

All Americans in this country MUST, MUST, MUST stand up to this kind of nonsense. We can no longer stand on the sidelines.

The left has spent the last half century making it unfashionable to speak out against such lunacy. We can't be bullied any longer.

Stand up and speak out as loud and as much and as often as you can.

They have no scientific basis for ANY of their claims about global warming … excuse me … climate change, yet they are bound and determined to destroy our country, our society, our economy, and our way of life and they won't stop until they do so. UNLESS we stop them. We surround them. Not the other way around.

But as long as WE THE PEOPLE stand around doing nothing, the squeeky wheels are going to get what they want in cap and tax, health care, defense, and bailouts.

    69. Richard, Washington says:

Stabbie Debenow is just another of Obama's lackeys along with our great senators from Washington, Maria Cant-VoteWell and Patty Murray. Our guvna Chrissie Gregoire is another prize. I can't wait for November 2010.

    70. Mike, Buchanan, MI says:

If she is so concerned with global warming, why is she flying? Isn't this environmentally irresponsible? Do as I say not as I do!!

    71. Helmetfoot Boston, says:

Take it easy on Ms. Stabenow. She doesn't have her new Gulfstream Jet. She has that same old rickety broom that gets buffetted around when your at 30,000 feet. She can't even find someone to take the "clunker" off her hands and give her $4500.

As far as Nancy giving her a ride home? Never happen. Nancy demands a plane that can fly non-stop to Frisco. No room for moochers.

    72. Jim - Southeastern M says:

Please everyone, lighten up on our junior Senator. She comes by all this quite honestly. Her Dad was the look-out at Pearl Harbor!

    73. SHAR says:

CAN YOU IMAGINE SHE CANNOT EVEN KEEP HER HOME TOGETHER AND SHE MAKES DECISIONS REGARDING THE PEOPLE IN MICHIGAN.

      GOD HELP US

    74. Brad S,, Detroit, MI says:

Unfortunately, we have two brain-dead Senators representing Michigan. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin. Both have D's next to their names. I'm pretty sure that represents "Dumb and Dumber", but I'm not sure which one is which.

The problem with both of them ?

"They haven't got a clue that they haven't got a clue."

    75. betty, brighton mich says:

Does anyone wonder what one of the reasons for the problem in Michigan might be ?

I swear I never voted for her.

    76. Chris East Troy Wi says:

In the past I would have called family in Ia. to poke fun at them for rewriting marraige law. In fun I would have called friends in Mi. to tease them about thier Senator, or friends in Il. to give them a hard time about thier politicians. Unfortunately my own elected officials are so rediculous I can no longer in good conscience raz my neighbors. How did all the goofballs manage to get elected at the same time? What a nightmare! Somebody please wake me up when we get to the part where they drink the kool-aid.

    77. Becky of Michigan says:

Yes, I have to put up with "Little Miss Debbie". I appreciate reading everyone's thoughts and comments on the Grated Senator. I guess the only state worse off than Michigan, as far as Govt front people, is WA State. At least we have the other Vote-With-Obama Senator, who knows enough to say nothing when he doesn't know enough to say anything. Both of these characters are bodies without substance, JellObama People, mindlessly voting for bills that benefit any Union and anything to help poor lawyers. After they finished up scraping the callouses off GM and causing those Unionites to lose their jobs, they busily put together Battery-making Unionite jobs in most of the Detroit area with a few offshoots to the west side of the state. Brilliant! Now, we have to learn how to make batteries from China and soon China will be threatening to stop buying our debt. Never ends. If our Govt People only had some brains-(sigh).

    78. Rudy, Colorado says:

And she probably even uses a knife and fork when she eats. Scary!

    79. Jerry from Chicago says:

Well, I guess that's it then. Debbie's airplane rides are getting bumpier. We all better make out our wills, kiss the kids goodbye, wave to our friends and let out the cat. The sky is falling and we are all going to spontaneously combust any minute now.

How in God's name can somebody like this get elected to be a United States Senator? Isn't there any kind of test we can give these people before electing them? If there isn't, there ought to be. There ought to be one that all Congressional, Senatorial and Presidential candidates should have to take and pass. We need to know if they can separate fact from fiction. Many of these politicians (including Mr. Obama) seem to believe that Robin Hood really lived and subscribe to his methods.

    80. Roger S., Ma. says:

Of course Robin Hood was "true fiction", and is alive and well to this very day. He's even "multiplied" and now goes by names like Barney Frank, Rahm Emanuel, Sten Hoyer, Nancy Peelyasee, Harry Reid, many more, lots of good "aliases" to keep the "sheriffs" guessing. By the way Nancy, on her way to Frisco, was to drop off Debbie over Michigan, literally, giving her the true feel of turbulence, even without a "broom" for a rudder.

    81. Joe S., El Paso, TX says:

I moved out of Michigan 18 years ago and I still feel a certain level of embarrassment about the morons that Michigan keeps putting in office. Perhaps they should change their state motto to "A poor economy through greedy unions and obtuse legislators". Perhaps all Michigan needs is a little more community organization.
