  • Morning Bell: Obamacare Is A Deficit Hawk's Worst Nightmare

President Barack Obama will host the first of three health care townhalls at 1 PM in Portsmouth, N.H. today, with follow up sessions in Bozeman, Montana on Friday and Grand Junction, Colorado on Saturday. Close followers of the health care debate might not recognize the pitch President Obama will make this afternoon. Gone are any promises that Obamacare will be “deficit neutral”, or reduce medical costs by cutting waste, or of “bending the cost curve” through a Trojan Horse public option.

Instead, Obama has shrunk his sales pitch to three specific problems: ending the practice of denying insurance coverage to people with a pre-existing illness; keeping people from losing their coverage if they get sick; and protecting Americans who face high out-of-pocket medical costs. These are all great goals, but they have very little to do with what is actually in the legislation before Congress.

This is why New Hampshire is such an opportune place for Obama to host the first of his health care townhalls since Granite Staters have a long tradition of fiscal responsibility. In this morning’s USA Today experts predict that estimates from both the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the White House due later this month will produce a fiscal year 2009 deficit of $1.8 trillion at a time when President Obama is seeking to add a new health care entitlement that will cost $1 trillion in just its first ten years. Earlier this year, President Obama tried to bring some semblance of fiscal responsibility into his administration by recruiting Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) to be his Secretary of Commerce. But it quickly became apparent to Gregg that his fiscally responsible values conflicted with Obama’s policies. Commenting on Obama’s budget a few short months later Gregg wrote:

The budget the Obama administration has presented to the American people is a new type of budget it expands our government in unprecedented ways and presents the largest tax increase in history. … In the next five years, the debt will double, and in 10 years, it will triple. This budget creates more debt than under every president from George Washington to George W. Bush combined and makes us more dependent on China and other governments to finance our debt, threatening the value of our currency and our financial security.

And now on health care, Gregg sees Obamacare only making the deficit worse:

Our deficit is clearly out of control, and the Democratic Congress, with its power of the purse, is doing nothing to address it. Instead, the majority is forging ahead with wildly expensive health care reform proposals that will plunge this country deeper and deeper into debt. Despite pledges from the President that health insurance reform will not add to the deficit, CBO estimates show that both the House Tri-Committee bill and the Senate HELP Committee bill will result in hundreds of billions in additional deficits.

The American public is extremely skeptical of President Obama’s health care promises. Last week Quinnipiac University found that 72% of Americans don’t believe President Obama will keep his promise to overhaul the health care system without adding to the federal deficit. And Gallup‘s Frank Newport found: “The push for healthcare reform is occurring in an environment characterized by high levels of concern about fiscal responsibility, government spending, and the growing federal deficit. … The economy outweighs health care as the most pressing problem facing the country and in Americans’ personal lives.” Considering that the Obamacare will be spending $245 billion a year by 2019, Granite Staters should be pressing the President about what happened to his fiscal responsibility promises.

    Quick Hits:

    • According to Rasmussen Reports, only 32% of voters nationwide favor a single-payer health care system, while 57% are opposed to a single-payer plan.
    • Billionaire speculator and alleged insider trader George Soros has pledged to sink $5 million into the pro-Obamacare Health Care For America Now astroturf group.
    • A memo from SEIU Local 2001 tells union members to go to town halls and “come out in strong numbers to drown out” the voices of other citizens.
    • Responding to a mistranslated question from a Congolese student who meant to ask what President Obama thought about Chinese trade with the Congo, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tersely responded: “You want me to tell you what my husband thinks? My husband is not secretary of state, I am. If you want my opinion I will tell you my opinion. I am not going to be channeling my husband.”
    • Speaking from Guadalajara, Mexico, President Barack Obama said Monday he expects to have a draft immigration bill in Congress by year’s end.

You are correct, Granite Staters should be pressing the President about what happened to his fiscal responsibility promises. I think the problem today will be that they are only going to let Big union members, astro-turfers for the health care trojan horse, and Acorn members into the audience.

A note to President Barack Hussein Obama

      JFK said January 20, 1961;

"We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans – born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage – and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country."

We must never forget that the people who are making these laws (health care” and “cap & trade) will never have to live under them.

George Soros could care less if gas was $20 per gallon, just more money for him.

    3. Richard Cancemi, Arl says:

Town Hall Meetings have only one benefit and that is to give the local citizens a chance to be heard by the rest of the country……IF the media do not selectively edit the meetings to skew them in favor of Liberal ideologues. Politicians will forget the minute they walk out of the room.

I've watched as many as possible and agree that angry citizens shouting at the same time allows no one to hear them. I understand their anger and frustration with a corrupt Washington that has turned its back on American principles because I feel the same way! We must be passionate, but orderly, so that the likes of Pelosi and other liberal hacks cannot dismiss the vocal rebellion as mobs and astroturf! She and many others need to be dismissed. We must not be conned by their words; we must look at their actions!

My main point is to not believe the claptrap that the politicians and the President give as responses to the questions of the people at the meetings. They will say and promise anything to shut you up or try to answer with their flim flam. None of them are truthful to the American people. Harry Reid is on record saying it doesn't matter what anyone says, THEY will pass the Health Care Legislation (and the public be damned)!

There are very, very few politicians who are for America. The vast majority are for themselves, their ideology, their Party. It ends there! To be wise we must do as some wise man said: "Trust nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see".

We must begin to impose our own term limits on them by voting them out of office; and, even with the best of them, not let them serve more than two terms. It is our only hope.

So I see George Soros has pledged 5 million to Obamas health plan. How interesting. George Soros is also for the New World Order. I would be willing to bet he is a member of the Bilderburgs also. Henry Kissinger who is a member of the Bilderburgs, is for the New World Order also. Kissenger has primed Obama to create the New World Order. If I'm not mistaken, Soros is also for cap and trade. These agendas will send our economy plummeting. Put 2 and 2 together. Obama is a puppet used by the Bilderbergs to destroy our economy and send us into the evil New World Order which he is primed to create. This I believe is Obama's hidden agenda.

    5. Lee-White Tanks AZ says:

It is interesting that Obama has zeroed in on exactly the three items that people recognize as problem areas.

Portability: Individual ownership of one's healthcare as opposed to employer or other third party ownership.

Pre-Existing Conditions: An area where public assitance could be of significant help. A government based "underwriting" of coverage could be investigated.

Catastrophic Illness: There has been a lot of rhetoric regarding this very real problem. This was "looked at" in the 1980s but was turned down. Once again, perhaps a seperate insurance with public underwriting could also work here.

Add to these a real program to reduce Fraud, a major cost (30%) of Medicare and Medicaid. Additionally, a real program of Tort Reform is needed. here again is a cost factor that is estimated as high as 15% of medical patient cost.

All the rest of the items of this bill are nothing but a blatant liberal left/Democrat attempt to take over and control a huge chunk of the peoples lives.

BTW I have commented an several aticles here, These have never lost the banner of "being under Moderation. There have never appeared on my computer any comments following mine. What is wrong here. Also I cannot find anywhere on this blog to report a problem

    6. Carolyn, Illinois says:

It is not amazing that 72% of the people think Obama's healthcare rhetoric stinks because he has openly lied so many times I can't count them. It takes a lot of gaul to stand up in front of the American people and continuously lie. This is a man who's arrogance stuns me. If he is not lying to our face he is lying by omission. Yes, a limit of only two terms would be a great start.

    8. Helmetfoot Boston, says:

Unless you are from New England, you may not know that the people of the Granite State, especially those who live near the border of Massachusetts, are not really New Hampshire people. Most of them are transplanted democrats from Massachusetts who fled to NH to get away from the Taxes in Ma. The only thing those people did was bring their tax and spend ideas with them. Obama picked the correct state. Most folks in the US think NH folks are frugal and cheap. Not now. Frugal with their own money but no with someone else's. Those "townie's" (long time residents) are still as frugal and "tight" as their elders. There just isn't so many of them anymore.

    9. Carole Egler, Founta says:

Considering all the demanding – ' This is a crisis, we must hurry and vote – no need to read this healthcare 'law' by this Administration and Congress. . . . nothing is allowing the American right of debate and dissent. . . just enacting an agenda without declaring its actual truth being presented. Trillions down the tube without accountability. I believe this is a take over of our beloved country. My Grandson is in Afganistan defending all of us; God save him and all our young men and women of the U.S. Military. Please tell me who will refuse to allow Obama to just take over and be the One and only US Emperor? My question is, who has the 'guts' and who has the integrity, the moral strength to tell Obama NO!!!" Where will our freedom be? Our rights? Just gone? How will we get them back? Can We get them back?

WHO will stop him and . . . save us? I have never been so scared.I fear for our very way of living and once gone, I don't believe we can get it back. I grieve for our wonderful, and once proud America!

Never in my 38 years have I seen regular folks like myself so upset and they think it's manufactured which only fuels the fire more: I really feel we are in for a revolution and I am not kidding.
