  • Townhall Downfall: Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-OH)

Despite President Barack Obama’s deadline, both the House and Senate failed to pass Obama’s health care plan before they adjourned for the month of August. Now Senators and Representatives are returning home to participate in one of America’s greatest democratic traditions: the townhall.

The events afford citizens the rare opportunity to share their opinions directly with their elected officials. Considering the unprecedented scope of power that President Obama wants to exercise over our nation’s health sector (a sector that is one-sixth of our entire economy and larger than the United Kingdom), we’re sure Americans will have plenty to say.

Rep. Driehaus looks bewildered at his constituent’s boisterous reaction to a question on failed public plans in Maine, Tennessee and other states. Watch:

The audio is kind of scratchy and I can't make out what she says that gets so much applause. Can someone post a brief transcript of that part?

    2. Sadie, Texas says:

I have watched a number of different townhall meetings and all I can think of when I see them is that none of the elected officials seem to have a clue about what is going on outside of the talking points of their party line. It's like trying to have a conversation with a zombie. These videos have made me wonder if America has been attacked by zombies in an undeclared war upon it's citizens?

It's beyond bizarre that these officials are so disconnected from real life on planet earth. If these officials weren't so dangerous to our health as a nation, it would be laughable.

    3. Bobbie Jay says:

It was difficult to hear, I appreciate the applause. It's funny how the American people have to FIGHT TO DO FOR THEMSELVES. GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT AND DOES NOT HAVE THE ROLE TO INTERVENE IN THE PERSONAL HEALTH CARE OF THE PEOPLE.

Pre-existing conditions are covered if not caused by the life style of the individual, which is a great incentive to make the right choices. Driehaus brings up diabetes. Type two diabetes is the only diabetes that's preventable, Mr. Driehaus, and the government has been intervening in type two diabetes since 1977. People are still getting it, because they know government will cover!

Didn't the democratic party, Nancy Pelosi and the like receive much contributions from insurance companies? Only to STAB insurance companies in the back?

No trust in government run ANYTHING!

It feels like we have entered the Twilight Zone or the Outer Limits. If only we can find our way back to sanity.

    7. Jim in Wisconsin says:

      But, but….

Where are the K Street Lobbyists?

      Where are the swastikas?

Where are the Brooks Brothers suits.

Where did they park all the buses that they used to bring all these artificial people in to disrupt the calm and contemplative discussion of health care?

I guess my local pro-abortion democrat congress-critter is smart. He's having a "telephone" town hall.
