  • Obamacare: You Will Lose Your Current Insurance. Period. End of Story.

This weekend President Obama dedicated his weekly address to defending Congress’s plans for an overhaul of the nation’s health care system.

He argued, “Once you’ve seen enough ads and heard enough people yelling on TV you might begin to wonder whether there’s a grain of truth to what they are saying.”

Here’s the truth, brand-new analysis(pdf) from The Heritage Foundation — conducted by The Lewin Group— shows that the public plan component within the House Democrats’ health reform bill is in conflict with how the Congress and the President are selling their reform plan.

“If you like your health plan, you can keep it, the only thing that will change is that you’ll pay less.” Remember that? Well, according to the new Lewin study:

    • Approximately 103 million people would be covered under the new public plan and as a consequence about 83.4 million people would lose their private insurance. This would represent a 48.4 percent reduction in the number of people with private coverage.
    • About 88.1 million workers would see their current private, employer-sponsored health plan go away and would be shifted to the public plan.
    • Yearly premiums for the typical American with private coverage could go up by as much as $460 per privately insured person, as a result of increased cost-shifting stemming from a public plan modeled on Medicare.

So, is there truth in the way the President and Congress are advertising their plans?

In his address President Obama asserted that, “If you like your current insurance, you keep that insurance. Period. End of Story.” But what the President forgot to tell you is that his assertion is only true if the story were fiction.

President Obama has stated that any plan he’d sign must include a health insurance exchange with a public “option”. So, if you like your current insurance you may, in fact, lose it. Period. End of story.

The very last thing we are seeing is transparancy that was promised. " Lets hurry, no time to discuss or read it…. the sky is falling and we must do something now.. don't read it, it will take too much time… sign it now". This makes no sense to sensable men and women, whether Democratic or Republican or anyone else. The real

message is that if this is pushed through and is the expensive( all studies show it will cost more) you, dear senator or congressman will N O T be re-elected. Isn't it time for a little long term planning, mr politician?

    2. Ken St Louis says:

Does anybody out there think that the President ( what a disgusting thought ) congress will be on the health plan they want to stick is with? The answer is, of course NO! National health care will get worse by the day if its enacted, because by then we won't be able to get away from it. Thesres only one sensible answer to our problems, and that is SECESSION from the Union. Its no longer a union of states, its a dictatorship from washington DC!!!

Please bombard your Senator and Congress-person with the word NO and NO and NO! YOU WILL NOT BE RE-ELECTED IF YOU PASS THESE BILLS!! Congressmen and Senators know that if they don't vote for what Rohm and Pelosi want, their districts will be isolated from Federal Funds. So, they will vote for whatever the "party" wants. I think it's time we the people starting shouting "TERM LIMITS".

    8. Joe Citizen says:

Let me get this straight. A highly partisan, far-right think tank commissions a study that "finds" (perhaps "pretends" is a better word) that X number of people will sign up to a public plan (because it is good?) and thus "lose" their plan – and you actually write "period. end of story"????

Oh if life (and political discourse) were so easy.

Sorry to break it to you, but this "study" is "end of story" only in the sense that no thinking person will give it a second thought.

    9. albert campbellsvill says:

Our omly hope is for people like speaker Gingrich and all republicans to keep hammering away on hussein regarding health care the economy and all his leftist lies.

    10. Amber, California says:

Why are they trying to re-invent the wheel. We have 50 state insurance depts that have tried insurance reforms at various times. Why aren't all 50 insurance commissioners in DC explaining what reforms worked (even if they for a different insurance market), what reforms "kind of" worked & what crashed & burned. We don't need to have a nationwide pilot program, each state has already been kind of a test study. To ignore the results of the states' ins. programs (with real numbers, not guestimates)& just make it up as you go along is ridiculous. I wish someone would bring up Prop 103 in California. It's not perfect, eliminating territories won't work for health care, but it's been vetted in the courts & could be used as a temporary stop gap while Congress figures out what will really be the long term solution. Auto carriers in Calif make plenty of money & our auto ins. rates have gone DOWN 7% in the last 18 years. But, my health ins has quadrupled in just the last 10 years. And why isn't anyone asking Nancy P. why she didn't even look to a successful reform plan in her own state to use as a possible model? Because even if you don't agree with the constaints of Prop 103, it PROVES we don't need a government option! California's state run auto insurance program only had a little over 10,000 policies in force last year in a state that has over 36 million residents. Hopefully the NAIC will rally the Ins. Commissioners to speak up soon.

Wait. You're basing this on a study by *the Heritage Institute*??? Wow, the H.I. thinks giving people an option outside the insurance corporation framework is baaaaad. And they have lots of nice big numbers!!!! Approximately 100% of the people enrolled in a public option will be dead in less than 100 years!!!!!

Remember the old rule: approximately 87% of statistics, including this one, are made up on the spur of the moment to support a pre-existing prejudice. Why waste time on un-reviewed numbers from the H.I.?

    13. thomas, florida says:

if you want to know whether of not the proposed health plan is good for the american public, ask why congress is exempt for it. why doesn't obama simply expand congress's health care program to include all americans? who is he trying to fool? the same ones who voted for him?

For those who don't know God, but yearn for a God, and picked Obama as their personal Saviour, his halo is starting to loose its luster!

    15. daniel, springfield says:

Will the Obama administration try to have all the retired government employees go to the new plan? This would certainly break the backs of those who have a modest retirement and have those people deciding to eat or to get their prescriptions filled.

I just can't believe how the Dem's are pushing this health care through, slow down. Something isn't right or they wouldn't be pushing so hard. NO Senator or Repsentative should be elected if they vote for this, also why are they exempt?

    18. Ed Fresquez says:

I am really concernd about my own insurance. I am in my late sixties and am currently covered by good insurance,as well as medicare. I sure would like to know if obama is going to require his administration to give up their health plans and go on the government plan, should it pass. What he considers good for us should be good his administrative Puppets.

No,no,no. Lies and Socialism. This is not change one can believe in. Dig your heels in,fight healthcare Obama style and kick out those in Washington, who vote for it. It means the end of individual rights and freedom in America. Wake up!

    20. The Central Scrutini says:

When Obamaniac states over and over again that Americans want health care reform, I look around, and all I see is a bunch of politicians scrambling to figure out how to vote to keep in good graces with our new dictator without hurting thier own voting block. Where are all these Americans that are sopposed to be clamoring for health care reform that Obamaniac describes? I am an American and I don't see them?

Go to the Better Business web site. A high pressure sales pitch "you gotta buy it now" is the strongest sign that it's a rip off.

    21. Delilah says:

Is Obama, going to have the Goverment run health care for himself and his family? or does he just wants to screw the American people, and get them into financial ruin!!

    22. Ben C, Ann Arbor says:

My guess is that people "for" government health care tend to look for "third party" responsibility and those "against" government health care tend to have "self responsibility." Problem is that those who have "self responsibility" take a dim view of paying for those who think the world owes them a living.

    23. David, Florida says:

Craig, Korea – Maybe you ought to a little research of your own before adding your snarky little troll comment. The Lewin Group is a non-partisan consulting group that has done work for many governmental and private organizations. They get hired for their expertise in healthcare planning. Their number have backup in the real world and if they weren't effective out of business.

It's simple, 89% (Rasmussen poll) people who have healthcare insurance like theirs. 85% of the US population is covered by healthcare insurance – at max, 15% is not. So Obama and the clowns are trying to ram through something that screws the 76% of us who have and like our healthcare to maybe, possibly help the 25% who don't like and don't have. It's all about them controlling your life. Read excerpts of the actual bill. I have. It is designed to force companies to go the public, one-payer route. And if you, as an individual, don't sign up… these nazi's will come after you with monetary penalties and possibly imprisonment.

Never once have any of the leftist Dem's given a thought to allowing free-market solutions like individual portability, full Health Savings Accts or tax credits.

      Be very afraid.

    28. Jane, Iowa says:

Three things. 1)If we can't see the bills (as promised), we need to influence our representatives not to vote for them. 2)What are our options, for free, individual, Americans who do not WANT to take a goverment option? 3)Do individual states have the option to allow private insurance?

    29. Verno, Atlanta surbu says:

Thomas, Florida has it right. If this health care is so great why is Congress and the President exempt. These self rightious politicians need to be subjected to the same ridiculous health care we get shafted with, and be made to pay for it with their own money as we will. Do as I say, not as I do rings loud and clear to me. The problem is that all our elected congress needs to be replaced (except my guy)and therein lies the problem. Obama distinctively stated that the monies SAVED ON MEDICARE/MEDICAID WILL PAY FOR THIS NEW PLAN>

In other words to all senior citizens "DROP DEAD", If you need an operation to make your pain less or your heart beat stronger and eventually live longer YOU WILL NOT GET THE HEALTH CARE YOU NEED after 65.

It's not a surprise that the President and his wife are strongly in support of late term abortions; no MEDICAl CARE given to a baby that survies a late term abortion procedure. Imagine if you delivered a baby early and left the baby with no doctor care YOU CAN BE CHARGED WITH MURDER!!!!BUT NOT when an abortionist delivers a lving baby when it was supposed to die and gives it no medical care not even warmth,or water.

That baby has no rights and now a senior citizen after 65 will have no rights and infact will not have equal protection under the law! NO rights will be afforded the senior who by the way still pays TAXES and deserves the elderly care by being excelent citizens and who brought into the world law abiding citizens to keep the US in military forces, and honest citizens that contribute to society. For this the senior's hard work and honor gets NO RESPECT! DO you people that are younger than I, know that it will be your moms, Dads, Uncles and Aunts that you love so dearly, will have nothing but a pain killer to assist them in their old age?

Have they or I, not earned the respect of my country to live as long as the LORD allows me to?

Why is not Obama sending our best minds to medical school of their choice instead of this psuedo /quasi military service or bondage they are most certainly pushing. Why do we not look at the medical advances that will only be avaiable to the rich or those who served in Government elected seats.

Bring down the cost of healthcare by having adequate medical personnel to fit all types of peoples ability to pay for insurance or private doctors insurance.

I have had an uncle that lived to be 101. I have had parents that were close to 90 years before they past. Now an eighty year old brother who has all his teeth, all his hair and had survived a enlarged prostrate gland, will not be able to have any medical procedure that he will have to be operated on or hospitalized for. Yet he continues to pay his property taxes and income taxes and will be refused certain care by the federal government employee.

All these so called PAIN PillS instead of an operation should be accepted by the senior person or better yet how about

the gov deciding what care I will get or NOT.

    54. Deborah says:

I think most Americans know that the healthcare system needs to be "reformed". This can easily be done through new regulations and standards. Costs for healthcare under the current system could easily be reduced. Salaried doctors, more sanctions and oversight on fraud in Medicare, improved documentation and record keeping, team approach to care, more prevention care, etc. I am sure there are many more ways to save money and reform the system. This can be done without spending trillions of our money and that of our children and grandchildren.

I feel most people object to the big rush, the lies, intrusion on our lives, rationed care, losing our current insurance, poor or non existent elder care, etc. etc.

We are a Republic and need to stand by our Constitution. The government should have limited power over our lives, and letting them decide matters of life and death for ourselves and our family is way too much power.

      Republic=government limited by law.

We need to continue and fight for our rights and stop this fascist takeover.

It always amazes me how so many conservatives sit back and blindly let the system rob them in the name of free enterprise. It is clear that we have a huge problem in the escalating costs in healthcare, to deny this is utter nonsense. And we all know that if we invest more in preventive medicine costs will go down in the long run. Also every time an uninsured person goes to the emergency room for an aspirin we all pay for it. So know since we know all these things to be true, why shouldn't we come up with a system to save us from all this waste. Are we not smart enough to put politics aside and actually make some good decisions?

8/12: Yep, you are correct! Obama answered that yesterday in his NH "town hall". When asked why he won't use his bully pulpit to tell Congress that they should be on the same plan they are forcing on us, Obama dodged the question and just replied that "the gap between what Congress and the public has today will continue to be as large as it is without reform". In other words, the gap in what Congress intends to KEEP as their health insurance may lessen, but it will still be there. If this is so great, then why does the govenment refuse to use it?

    81. Joyce,FL says:

Okay folks, does anyone understand how businesses run? If the government creates a cheaper, more affordable plan that covers those who can not afford insurance (our taxes will pay for this plan)then businesses will not be able to compete with the government plan for contracts with meds companies and carriers. The businesses will either decide to increase their premiums to employees or to discontinue their coverage. THAT is how the Obamacare will gain in coverage. That is why we will lose our private insurance coverage. And..medicare cannot sustain it's current coverage when flooded with additional insureds. This is madness. You must say NO to government involvement in healthcare and YES to tort reform and more discounts from pharmaceuticals.

    82. Laura Orr says:

I have been reading like a madman (woman) to read as much as I can and I've been taking that 8 hour course on Youtube about the Constitution. Why is it OK for the government to force the pharmaceuticals to discount their products but not the insurance companies. We are all way to personally motivated with our responses and need to take a more egalitarian approach. I know you will think this is communistic but we need to make decisions for our society as a whole and not our own little narrow portion of it. You may not like government controls but I for one would not fly without the FAA. Government controls practically every portion of our society and it is not always a bad thing.

    87. Pat says:

This is absolutely ridiculous. Of course Heritage would concoct something that obscenely contradicts what our DEMOCRATIC president has been telling us. Heritage is actually one of the reasons we are in this predicament as their conservative agenda of privatization and deregulation. They were also a key player in undermining democratic policy in the late 90's and creating a republican majority in congress, as well as getting George Bush elected. I know how much everyone love's George Bush and this war we're in now, but keep in mind that Heritage actually had extreme pull in the case for the war, as they have been actively involved in foreign policy for the last decade. But I digress, The Heritage Foundation is nothing but a Republican think tank slandering anyone that does not share their extremely conservative views while promoting drastic action in foreign countries, most notably with Reagan and the Soviets and George Bush in Iraq. What Obama is proposing to do is simple laissez faire economics with a socialist twist. The "Invisible Hand" Adam Smith talked about in his economic system states that because of self interest, individuals doing what's best for themselves make decisions that ultimately benefit the nation. The same applies with businesses as when a company offers something to the public that is beneficial and sells a lot or that people use a lot, it should spark other people to form a company that can create that same thing but for a lower price, eventually creating competition and keeping prices in check. This principle has failed in the Insurance industry, as it did in the pharmaceutical industry and the government had to regulate that. In fact this has happened throughout our nations budding history in almost every category of our economy. These insurance companies band together and, while skipping and tip toeing around the laws designed to prevent monopolies and trusts made health care not only incredibly expensive, but incredibly exclusive, and specific. All the nonsense with preexisting conditions and what not have limited those Americans that can actually afford health care in an unacceptable way. People are fighting insurance companies everyday, spending millions of dollars on legal fees, because they are so picky about what treatment they will allow. This health care bill is essentially designed to fix the flaw in Adam Smith's system, by creating an affordable option that will in turn create competition for insurance companies and force lower prices. The political bias and lack of basic knowledge of our government in this country is downright disgusting. As a result, this two party system we have is in shambles, because it prevents people of the political mind to change their mind or shift their thinking on a subject as a result of our changing society or an event in their life or someone else's life, lest they be the subject of public ridicule. Everyone is so firmly rooted in their "beliefs" and convictions that we as an American people have become entrenched on one side or the other throwing jabs until there is a knockout. Talk about the greatest boxing match of all time. The division in our country is almost Civil War-esque. we're so caught up with ourselves that we have lost all sense of the "greater good" mentality that won us our independence in the first place. Working for the greater good comes across as socialist for those conservative, self-preservationists, and maybe it is. Socialism is about equality, and while I'm in no way a socialist, as I cannot vote yet, it's basic principles can be easily applied to our democracy, as they were intended. This Health Care plan is not a "takeover," but an alternative.

    88. Adam, Wisconsin says:

The most frustrating thing for me is the missinformation that is circulating around this debate. I have worked in the private health insurance field (for 5 years) as well as Medicaid, the government program I am in now (for 4 years), and I can tell you, there is much, MUCH more bearacracy with the private health insurance companies then with Medicaid. This notion that the government being in between the doctors and the patients is truly inaccurate. The private health insurance companies are who is in the middle and who, additionally, are much more dangerous. The private health insurance companies have a 30% overhead where Medicare and Medicaid have only 3%. Why do you think that is?

No one ever seems to talk about the fact that Medicare/Medicaid serves the sickest portion of Americans, Senior Citizens and I believe the disabled. They are basically already covering people that the traditional insurers did not want anyway (no profit). So the insurance companies get to cherry pick and still can't give decent pricing. This is plain old BS and if people don't get it I don't know what to think!

    92. francis.....texas says:

      Hello All,

Lets get real!!! This is what really goes on at a town hall meeting.

By now you have probably heard that President Obama came to

Montana last Friday. However, there are many things that the major news

has not covered. I feel that since Bill and I live here and we were at

the airport on Friday I should share some facts with you. Whatever you

decide to do with the information is up to you. If you chose to share

this email with others I do ask that you DELETE my email address before

      you forward this on.

On Wednesday, August 5th it was announced locally that the

President would be coming here. There are many groups here that are

against his healthcare and huge spending so those groups began talking

and deciding on what they were going to do. The White House would not

release ANY details other than the date.

On about Tuesday Bill found out that they would be holding the

"Town Hall" at the airport. (This is only because Bill knows EVERYONE at

the airport) Our airport is actually located outside of Belgrade (tiny

town) in a very remote location. Nothing is around there. They chose to

use a hangar that is the most remotely located hangar. You could not

pick a more remote location, and you can not get to it easily. It is

      totally secluded from the public.

FYI: We have many areas in Belgrade and Bozeman which could have

held a large amount of folks with sufficient parking.

(gymnasiums/auditoriums). All of which have chairs and tables, and would

not have to be SHIPPED IN!! $$$$$

During the week, cargo by the TONS was being shipped in

constantly. Airport employees could not believe how it just kept coming.

Though it was our President coming several expressed how excessive it

was, especially during a recession. $$$$$

Late Tuesday/early Wednesday the 12th, they said that tickets

would be handed out on Thursday 9am at two locations and the president

would be arriving around 12:30 Friday.

Thursday morning about 600 tickets were passed out. However,

1500 were printed at a Local printing shop per White House request.

      Hmmmm……900 tickets just DISAPPEARED.

That same morning someone called into the radio station from the local

UPS branch and said that THOUSANDS of dollars worth of Lobster were shipped in

for Obama. Montana has some of the best beef in the nation!!! And it would

have been really wonderful to help out the local economy. Anyone heard of

Recession?? Just think…with all of the traveling the White House is doing. $$$$$

One can only imagine what else we are paying for.

On Friday, Bill and I got out to the airport about 10:45am. The

groups that wanted to protest Obama's spending and healthcare had gotten

a permit to protest and that area was roped off. But that was not to be.

A large bus carrying SEIU (Service Employees International Union)

members drove up onto the area (illegal)and unloaded right there. It was

quite a commotion and there were specifically 2 SEIU men trying to make

trouble and start a fight. Police did get involved and arrested the one

man but they said they did not have the manpower to remove the SEIU

The SEIU crowd was very organized and young. About 99% were

under the age of 30 and they were not locals! They had bullhorns and

PROFESSIONALLY made signs. Some even wore preprinted T-shirts. Oh, and

Planned Parenthood folks were with them…..professing abortion rights

with their T-shirts and preprinted signs. (BTW, all these folks did

have a permit to protest in ANOTHER area)

Those against healthcare/spending moved away from the SEIU crowd

to avoid confrontation. They were orderly and respectful. Even though

SEIU kept coming over and walking through, continuing to be very

intimidating and aggressive at the direction of the one SEIU man.

So we had Montana folks from ALL OVER the state with their

homemade signs and their DOGS with homemade signs. We had cowboys,

nurses, doctors you name it. There was even a guy from Texas who had

been driving through. He found out about the occasion, went to the

store, made a sign, and came to protest.

If you are wondering about the press…..Well, all of the major

networks were over by that remote hangar I mentioned. They were

conveniently parked on the other side of the buildings FAR away. None of

these crowds were even visible to them. I have my doubts that they knew

      anything about the crowds.

We did have some local news media around us from this state and

Idaho . Speaking of the local media…they were invited. However, all

questions were to be turned into the White House in advance of the

event. Wouldn't want anyone to have to think off the top of their head.

It was very obvious that it was meant to be totally controlled

by the White House. Everything was orchestrated down to the last detail

to make it appear that Montana is just crazy for Obama and government

healthcare. Even those people that talked about their insurance

woes……..the White House called our local HRDC (Human Resource and

Development Committee) and asked for names. Then the White House asked

those folks to come. Smoke and mirrors…EVERYTHING was

I am very dismayed about what I learned about our current White

House. The amount of control and manipulation was unbelievable. I felt I

was not living in the United States of America , more like the USSR !! I

was physically nauseous. Bill and I have been around when Presidents or

Heads of State visit. It has NEVER been like this. I am truly very

frightened for our country. America needs your prayers and your voices.

If you care about our country please get involved. Know the issues. And

let Congress hear your voices again and again!! If they are willing to

put forth so much effort to BULLY a small town one can only imagine what

is going on in Washington DC . Scary!!

I suggest that all people cancel their health insurance ASAP. These policies have created an artificial value for medical goods and services and we should just go back to the good ol days and the $35 doctor visit.

    96. edward jackson, Hurr says:

I totally agree with Ken St Loius, what he said-and I quote-Does anybody out there think that the President ( what a disgusting thought ) congress will be on the health plan they want to stick is with? The answer is, of course NO! National health care will get worse by the day if its enacted, because by then we won’t be able to get away from it. Thesres only one sensible answer to our problems, and that is SECESSION from the Union. Its no longer a union of states, its a dictatorship from washington DC!!!-unqoute

I think that before long, if the country goes it's current direction, we might have to secede from Washington D.C, the Federal Government has become nothing more than a massive dictatorship and we are all their slaves. Ken is absolutly right, this is a dictatorship, this is tyranny the government is trying to oppose on us, they say their trying to defend our freedom, THEIR TAKING OUR FREEDOM AWAY EVERY SECOND!!!!!!!!!! i'm just a kid living in Utah who can't really do something about this, but if we are to do something about this, we're gonna have to do it fast.

I am self employed, and getting insurance here is nearly impossible. I am currently paying $500.00 for me and $500.00 for my husband per month, and that is for "catastrophic" coverage – so when he had a hip replacement last year, we still paid 10k out of pocket. It is a nightmare.

That is what the insurance companies are up to. If you like your insurance, great. But if you are stuck like me without group insurance, prepare to be screwed. Maybe gov't. run insurance is not the answer – but the insurance companies aren't either.

If you don't have insurance, and are looking to find any at a reasonable price, that does not deny you because of pre-existing conditions, sets a limit on out of pocket expenses and will give you adequate coverage, then you're completely hosed. Good luck.

When you ask, "will the president and congress be on this plan?" you should ask the corollary question of how many insurance company lobbyists know what it's like to not have insurance?

If the insurance companies did not want it to come to this, they should have thought about the little person a lot sooner.

    106. Charles D Perez says:

That is told unconstitutional to force me to buy govt health insurance. I worked all my life (40 years) for my insurance and I will not pay for something that is force down my throat whether I like it or not. I thought we had freedom of choice in this country. Someone in Congress better start doing their job and listen to the few of us that are working or else we might as well stop working and let the government take of us and pay our house and all the bills. I would consider moving out of this country If I retire before 65. I can go to another country and pay alot less for medical care.

    107. Cathy, Davie, Florid says:

Keep our insurance? Airline employees and retirees know that their private coverage (which is excellent and expensive for the airlines) will be "transferred" to government plan. This would be a terrific break for the airline industry which is in financial trouble and an ironic salute to the unions. As the old saying goes, "Be careful what you wish for because you might get it." Is there any doubt for anyone with half a brain that unions are ruining this country and that our president has a sinister master plan?
