    CNSNews reports:

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Tuesday that the health-care reform bill now pending in Congress would garner very few votes if lawmakers actually had to read the entire bill before voting on it.

In fact, Hoyer found the idea of the pledge humorous, laughing as he responded to the question. “I’m laughing because a) I don’t know how long this bill is going to be, but it’s going to be a very long bill,” he said.

Is this really what the liberal majority in Congress has stooped to? Is the very idea that Congress actually reads the legislation they’re turning into the law of the land so foreign to them that it is funny? Is this even democracy?

    1. Monte, Arizona says:

If "We the People," including our elected representatives, actually read cover-to-cover any of the rapid and massive "new way of life" proposals coming out of "our" government, things would slow way down and the real change could be kept in our pockets.

    2. Kevin B. , Twin Fall says:

IN GOD WE TRUST, We the people, these terms have been pushed down to the very bottom step of the foundation of our society. These Elites that our leading our county, are running it from a point of their own self-intrest. With that mind set, why should they read a complete bill before voting, when they can just add their own legislation, that can later help them in furthering their own political career. If you are wanting to contest to what these global Elites are doing call your House and Senate officals and tell them if they continue down this distructive path, WE THE PEOPLE, will actively campain against them. Just rember businesses, employees, and consumers all have a vested interest in our Nation.

    5. Barb -mn says:

Real funny, Mr. Hoyer. Just shows admittance of government corruption. Just shows your true lack of will to protect the citizens from government corruption. Just shows your true lack of competence to zero. Just shows the government undermining the people. Just shows practical reasoning not to trust anything GOVERNMENT! Yep. That's hysterical.

No one in the private sector would ever do something so ignorant. Yet, people with government leadership roles continue their ignorance of intent for our demise.

    6. Cyndi, Northern Cal says:

I know I'm not laughing! After Congress passed the stimulus bill without even reading the thing & the people through a fit, they brought in a speed reader & made a joke of the whole thing. Making a mockery of our Constitution and We the People they work for. They all should fired, they take an oath to protect the U.S. & keep her safe for the people that live to be free in this Great Land that God gave to us. He's not laughing either & we're paying the price for these fools stupidity!

It kills me to watch what Congress & Obama are doing to America. I trully believe that Obama is trying to bring down America as fast as he can. I'm afraid that our rights to vote will be eliminated by 2010 or it won't make a difference because they will no longer have to listen to the votes of the people.

    7. Uncle Dave, Chicago says:

Remarkably, all we needed to know about now President Obama was known before the election. Had the main stream media actually done its job, Obama would have never made it past the primaries. Now, with the MSM held in his hip pocket, the American public simply consumes what they're fed.

We all need to be concerned citizens and pay a lot closer attention to what's being reported by MSM and told to us by these elected officials. Moreover, we need to challenge them when this occurs – their lies don't stand up under scrutiny.

    8. Deborah, Park City, says:

Everyday is another nightmare with this administration!!! The people are stupid to allow the likes of Barney Frank, Chris Dodd Reid and Pelosi to continue to pull us down this path of destruction. Franks now wants to make owning Condos easier with legislation. He is also trying to take TARP money that has been paid back by banks and give it to poor neighborhoods. What is with this guy and why can't we get rid of him. What a mockery!!! Now if we can only get all of the people who showed up for M.J>'s funeral to help us march on Washington!! (NOT) The media was so busy covering what Al Sharpton has to say about M.J. that we hardly saw anything on the TEA Parties on the 4th.

    9. Gene, New Jersey says:

Steny Hoyer is just typical of today’s politician we elect into office. He's not interested in doing the PEOPLES business. He's more interested in getting a big payday from the numerous lobbyists from this and that special interest group in order to stay in office. We must hold these unpatriotic men and women’s feet to the fire and make sure they read every bill that comes down regardless of size —- it’s their JOB!

By the way what happened to placing these bills on the internet for 7 to 10 days in order for everyone to read and try to understand them? I guess they came to a conclusion that organizations like the Heritage Foundation won’t let them get away with anything.

What a joke this is becoming!!!!!!!!!!!

Imagine if you worked for a contractor and your job was to read the specifications and you felt that they were just too big, so you didn’t. You end up getting the job and your irresponsibility ends up costing your company a lot of money and perhaps even some jobs, do you think you would keep your job? We all have to do things in life we don’t necessarily like, but we do them because we are responsible adults. Our representatives need to now joint all of us in the real world and start to do their jobs and grow up.

    10. Keith somewhere in t says:

If Congress is so ineffective, ignorant or [fill-in the blank], why do voters re-elect them every two years? In a republican democracy, do they reflect the culture at large? Is anyone suggesting that Government has concocted a sinister conspiracy against us?

    11. Bette, Bridgewater, says:

It is all a radical far left plot to bring this country to its knees.

Only God can help us now but we don't deserve it !

    12. Charles-Odessa, Texa says:

We have to pay for it-They should have to sit in their elected seats and have it read to them. Maybe-it would be shorter and more meaningful to them.

    13. Pat-San Antonio says:

Our forefathers who built this great republic must be rolling in their graves.

    14. Brad L, Phoenix says:

Where is the ACLU when you really need them. Voting on legislation without even reading it is like deciding Guilt or Innocence without a trial to present the facts.

    15. Al, The Villages, Fl says:

Apparently this society, with its PC based mentality, has stooped so low that we no longer have any compass at all. Everything is relative and with no meaning. Even running this country is no longer serious business for members of congress. Come 2010, we will find out if the people are also on this PC based narcotic. Meanwhile our overeducated idiots in congress and the Obama administration, usually referred to as the "elite" are on a roll to destroy this country. However, maybe even they had better take notice – the tea parties are the tip of an iceberg – the people will not tolerate this indefinitely.

    16. Paul Terry Stone says:

Since so many bills are so massive now, they should be divided into manageable portions that Congressmen can study when given the time to do it and deal with before moving on to the next section. Otherwise manageable limits need to be set on the total size of bills presented to Congress if they are to represent us represent us responsibly. Even we are supposed to read and understand legal documents before we sign them.

    17. Grace, Florida says:

I really think that We The People are going to have fun in 2010. These jokers in Congress are going to be out on their butts. Hopefully whatever this Congress passes we can turn around then. I am sick of all these Politicians. They are making fools of us.

    18. Patricia,Hobbs,N.M. says:

If Hoyer doesn't want to do his job then he needs to get out of office! What does he think his job is anyway? I know if I did my job half-assed I would be fired. If the job is too much for him he needs to go. Period! I'm tired of these polititioners doing a piss-poor job and passing the costs on to us. We will remember come election time.

    19. Barb in Nebraska says:

If anyone was paying attention during the campaign they would have picked up on Obama's hatred for America. How this joker got elected is mockery of what America stands for. I agree he is trying to destroy the U.S. from within. And with Pelosi, Reid, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and now Al Franken (another joke) we don't stand a chance at seeing any form of sensibility or credibility coming out of Washington. God help us all.

    20. Paula-Orlando says:

Charles has it right! The Constitution is a relatively short document and is far more comprehensible than the textual vomit that is coming out of congress.Sorry- but it is a fitting metaphor for the explosive, conglomeration of undigested legislation that has been dumped on the American people. How can anyone ……liberal, conservative etc. defend passage of laws that no one has read or truly understands the consequences of which it will have on the populace? Perhaps if we demand only for clear, concise legislation that the public can and will understand then maybe we will have true representation. Until something changes we have an elitist ruling class-not too different than the monarchy we threw off long ago. Wake up people-don't complain start marching!!

    21. Paula-Orlando says:

What does that mean? Do I need to revise or do you? What required moderation?

    22. Stacia Lemon, MI says:

      These people are idiots!

    23. Dennis A. Social Cir says:

We have some stupid people running the country. the real dumbs ones are the people that keep electing them.We need term limits for all in Congress as well as the president. Of course this will never happen because they want the power to much, not to mention the wealth that goes with it. I also remember that one person in congress is trying to repeal the 22nd admendent, that will give obama they best of deals. He will be able to keep his "rule" for ever. What a mess.

    24. AWM- Indiana says:

Two things that could help us throw off the chains (or is it "change") of bondage: 1. Term Limits; and 2. "Citizen" politicians. With todays 'professional politicians", we end up represented by those who are more concerned with their career path, than whether they are properly serving We The People. Serve your country -for no more than two terms- and then go back into the citizenry. (Term limits ought to have Steny rolling in the aisles…)

    25. Debra, Texas says:

We cannot wait until 2010 to make the changes necessary to begin repairing our country. We HAVE to educate the people on the inpending doom that the democrats and the turncoat republicans have set up for us. It will be nearly impossible to slow down the damage that they have put into effect but some of the damage can be repealed. If the marxist heathcare is passed, we will never recover from that. That is the first battle. If it passes, we will have permanent, irreversible damage. People need to contact their Senators on a daily basis and let them know that they are OUT if they vote for it – It will ration healthcare. These marxist are all for population control and getting rid of senior citizens anyway.

Who ever thought that Hitler's philosophies would be alive and well again right here in the United States?

    26. Connie Texas says:

      Deborah asks:

What is with this guy and why can’t we get rid of him.

I can tell you Deborah, as he is the only openly gay representative in the House, Frank's constituents are afraid to vote him out of office, for fear of being labeled Homophobic or some other politically-correct title. He'll die in office. Hopefully, we'll still have a country left when that happens.

    27. Connie Texas says:

Keith, you want to know why the voters keep re-electing these sorry-as-ed people to Congress. I think it's a combination of two things. Voter laziness and gerrymandering.

    28. Thomas & Familie says:

      To Congress:

This letter represents many, many families. Our family has Democrats, Republicans, and Independents from four generations of children and we are all are fed up with the President and his socialist agenda. We are saddened by your recent positions and votes since the President was elected.

The fact is we no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington, D.C. and Washington State represents our views or works to pursue the issues important to us. There must be someone. Please tell us who you are. Please stand up and tell us that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now. You might ask yourself what our views and issues are that we would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me?

Well, these are briefly our views and issues for which we seek representation:

One, illegal immigration. We want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., We are not racists. This isn't to be confused with legal immigration.

Two, the TARP bill, we want it repealed and we want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. We want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.

Three: Czars, We want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars because they represent communism. Are you a communist? Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.

Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say.

Five, universal healthcare. We will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down! It is now apparent that the President’s Stimulus plan has failed and enacting a second one will be political suicide for you.

Six, growing government control. We want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don't you start there?

Seven, ACORN. We do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. We want them investigated. We are not stupid when it comes to Acron when their own board members can’t get access to the budget. We also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes. Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. We do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. We know a pay off when we see one! We don't trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate or commit professional suicide.

Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. We worked for our money. It ours, mine. We have always worked for people with more money than us have because they gave us jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that we will support. We never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want us to hate our employers? Why what do you have against shareholders making a profit?

Nine, charitable contributions. Although we never got a job from a poor person, we have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.

Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. The last money given the banks and Wall Street went down the drains and into Bonus for the crooks. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.

Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. We are not idiots you obviously take us for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from us.

Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now.

Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let's just slow down and get some input from some nonpoliticians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law. We are not activists. We are not community organizers. Nor are terrorists, militant or violent persons. We are parents and grandparents. We work. We are busy. We are busy. We are busy, and we are tired. We thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave. You are personally letting us down!!! You have been a great congressman until now!

We entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. We believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think we find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? We do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility we have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. We are not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that we feel as if you would not trust us to make a single decision about our own lives and how we would live it but you should expect that we should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. We are sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all of the recent spending.

From our perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. We also know that we are far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington. Our president often knows all the right buzzword is unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons.

We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate we guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly the silent majority, all of us who quietly work , pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you. You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn't ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us when he will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.

Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don't care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now. We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back. We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired. Did you hear? We no longer care about your political parties. You need to be loyal to us, not to them. Because we will get you fired and they will not save you. If you do or can represent me, my issues, my views, please stand up. Make your identity known. You need to make some noise about it. Speak up. We need to know who you are. If you do not speak up, you will be herded out with the rest of the sheep and we will replace the whole damn congress if need be one by one. We are coming. Are we coming for you? Who do you represent? What do you represent? Listen. Because we are coming. We the people are coming.

You are most likely laughing at this letter and that is a very serious mistake! We want back the Senator who worked for us.

One large family here in Southwest Washington Who are the People of the United States of America.

No Keith, Tytler said it best two centuries ago:

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Sadly it appears we are headed down this path. I for one will kick and scream the whole way.

    30. Audie, Lubbock, Texa says:

What a mess our country is in. The people wanted “change” in November of 2008. Well, they got it. The people of this country must use the most powerful tool available to them at the midterm elections and in 2012–the ballot. We must stop talking about “we need to do this” or ” we must do that”. It is time for freedom loving Americans, everyone, to become politically active at the grassroots level. If that means taking to the streets in massive protest, then so be it. Why do other countries such as Iran and China risk their lives for democracy, yet Americans sit quitely with their heads in the sand hoping that the “problems” will be taken care of by our government. Our “government” is self-serving. It is time to use the ballot to flush Washington and start over. It is time for common sense and patriotism to take up residence in the halls of Congress.

    31. Belinda, Marietta, G says:

Connie, in Texas, mentioned voter laziness. In the Atlanta area we have had two fairly well attended tea parties. If everyone upset by the direction our country is taking would get out there we would have a massive crowd. I do not know why they do not take the time to attend. Puzzled.

I am blown away by what the government is getting away with and hope the tea parties grow and we end up with a march in Washington.

    32. Roger S., MA. says:

Is this really what the liberal majority in Congress has stooped to? — Yes, and I suspect it's been like this for already quite some time!

Is the very idea that Congress actually reads the legislation they’re turning into the law of the land so foreign to them that it is funny? – Yes.

1000+ pages, I read somewhere? How many weeks would it take to read and understand it? Leaves the question: Who do they expect to implement it, and how? How big is the bunch of their "good friends" whom they'll put on "our payroll"?

Is this even democracy? — NO! — The famous novelist/philosopher, Ayn Rand, once wrote: 'Do not attempt to understand a great folly, merely ask what it accomplishes. You'll know the answer.', or words to this effect.

Along this line of thought, Kevin B. has it right. The racket gets on a roll more or less like this: Get wide-ranging legislation in place from the start. You don't need to be too specific. It doesn't have to work exactly as advertised. Just make sure there's a little in it for everyone. Then you can "fix" it, later, to taste, once the money starts rolling in.

Dennis A. writes: "We have some stupid people running the country…" Well, Yes, in a way, but it's more than that. Actually, they're quite a clever bunch of crooks who are "all in on the same racket." (Play along, you're in and do well. Oppose, you're out forever) Reminds me of another Ayn Rand novel, Atlas Shrugged. Anyway, there are probably a few exceptions. Rep King, R-IA comes to mind. These we need to find and identify and support and strengthen in every doable way, which is why I'm against just generally voting all incumbents out of office, although I can understand anybody mad enough to want to do that. It's also a reason why I'm ambivalent about "term limits". Although they would help to break up the current "racket", we'd still be stuck with the mess they left and a huge bureaucracy to untangle and dismantle. To do that you need good people who are also experienced enough to know what to touch first and how hard to touch it, or you'll make everything worse.

Come to think, that may be what a lot of incumbents are banking on. That the voter, however mad he gets, will be "smart" enough to spot the game and decide to be "in" enough (via his special interest group) to at least get a few crumbs, rather than oppose the racket and go begging. This is a very ancient mechanism whereby such political machines as Chicago's Daley "gang" got formed and maintained. It's the way ancient Rome worked, and Machiavelli's 13th/14th century Florence. It probably also explains best our state's very own political ogre, Barney Frank. You figure.

    33. Spiritof76 says:

Rep. Hoyer, Barney Frank and the rest of the clowns in Congress are arrogant beyond belief.

We mus get rid of them.

First, we must clog Washington DC with a protest rally by showing up in huge numbers.

A mass rally is planned on September 12 at the Lincoln Memorial to show who the boss is and to present a petition similar to the petitions sent to England in 1775. Please get away from your computers and gather in Washington. For more information on it, go to :http://912dc.org/
Take action, let us go get our country back.

    34. Sundowner04, TN says:

Time to sharpen the swords and prepare for the coming storm. DC has become a cesspool of professional politicians who serve themselves rather than the people they supposedly represent OR the Constitution they supposedly support and defend!

Term limits and a NEW government NOW!!

    35. Jack, Washington says:

What are we the people to do? I have spent the past few months contacting both our "elected" Congressmen and Senators here in WA only to hear "we do not have a fiduciary responsibility to you people because you voted us into office and you have nothing to say until the next election." With an attitude like that, they all need to go. And the sooner the bettor.

    36. David VanNorman Wi says:

Give Hoyer the heave-ho . we need responsible people not jokesters .This is our country and our money It's not to be taken lightly. We pay these people and if they don't listen the need to find another job.

    37. Ross, Bradenton, Flo says:

Around 1600, the English philospher, Ben Johnson stated, "Open thy mouth and speak that I might see thy mind." How true, how true!

Idiocy-on-parade seem to be the norm as our rulers…(ops, I meant elected officials) practice the sutle art of sophistry.

What is really sad, the news media doesn't even question this outrageous statements with the commonsense that God gave a Billy Goat, much less these braying Jackasses(that's another name for a donkey for the PC crowd)we call congressmen.

    38. Debbie, Cameron, SC says:

It should be mandatory that all representatives (not rulers) voting on any piece of legislation personally read it(in its entirety)and sign a statement saying they have done so before being allowed to vote. Several things could be accomplished: It would slow things down a bit, make everyone aware of the unnecessary crap being added to bills or prevent them from adding any pork because it tires them out or blinds them from trying to read bills 1,700 pages long. Just think how much money could be saved if there was NO PORK in legislation. I know this is wishful thinking so lets settle for TERM LIMITS for everyone in Washington. I as so many other Americans am SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED!!! Beware Washington!

It is irresponsible to watch our nation being destroyed, piece by piece.

Where are all the Constitutional Attorneys that should be filing charges, speaking out about the continual infractions of our Constitution and laws?

Congress is full of complicit, corrupt, lazy-ass-parasites and must be held accountable – kick their useless carcasses out – vote them out before we lose that right… the right to vote.
