I know I’m not laughing! After Congress passed the stimulus bill without even reading the thing & the people through a fit, they brought in a speed reader & made a joke of the whole thing. Making a mockery of our Constitution and We the People they work for. They all should fired, they take an oath to protect the U.S. & keep her safe for the people that live to be free in this Great Land that God gave to us. He’s not laughing either & we’re paying the price for these fools stupidity!

It kills me to watch what Congress & Obama are doing to America. I trully believe that Obama is trying to bring down America as fast as he can. I’m afraid that our rights to vote will be eliminated by 2010 or it won’t make a difference because they will no longer have to listen to the votes of the people.

Remarkably, all we needed to know about now President Obama was known before the election. Had the main stream media actually done its job, Obama would have never made it past the primaries. Now, with the MSM held in his hip pocket, the American public simply consumes what they’re fed.

Steny Hoyer is just typical of today’s politician we elect into office. He’s not interested in doing the PEOPLES business. He’s more interested in getting a big payday from the numerous lobbyists from this and that special interest group in order to stay in office. We must hold these unpatriotic men and women’s feet to the fire and make sure they read every bill that comes down regardless of size —- it’s their JOB!

By the way what happened to placing these bills on the internet for 7 to 10 days in order for everyone to read and try to understand them? I guess they came to a conclusion that organizations like the Heritage Foundation won’t let them get away with anything.

Imagine if you worked for a contractor and your job was to read the specifications and you felt that they were just too big, so you didn’t. You end up getting the job and your irresponsibility ends up costing your company a lot of money and perhaps even some jobs, do you think you would keep your job? We all have to do things in life we don’t necessarily like, but we do them because we are responsible adults. Our representatives need to now joint all of us in the real world and start to do their jobs and grow up.

Since so many bills are so massive now, they should be divided into manageable portions that Congressmen can study when given the time to do it and deal with before moving on to the next section. Otherwise manageable limits need to be set on the total size of bills presented to Congress if they are to represent us represent us responsibly. We HAVE to educate the people on the inpending doom that the democrats and the turncoat republicans have set up for us. Three: Czars, We want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars because they represent communism. Are you a communist? Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.
Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say.
Five, universal healthcare. We will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don’t you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down! It is now apparent that the President’s Stimulus plan has failed and enacting a second one will be political suicide for you.
Six, growing government control. We want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don’t you start there?
Seven, ACORN. We do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. We want them investigated. We are not stupid when it comes to Acron when their own board members can’t get access to the budget. We also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes. Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. We do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. We know a pay off when we see one! We don’t trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate or commit professional suicide.
Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. We worked for our money. It ours, mine. We have always worked for people with more money than us have because they gave us jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that we will support. We never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want us to hate our employers? Why what do you have against shareholders making a profit?
Nine, charitable contributions. Although we never got a job from a poor person, we have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.
Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. The last money given the banks and Wall Street went down the drains and into Bonus for the crooks. If there are hard times ahead, we’ll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.
Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let’s have it. Let’s say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. We are not idiots you obviously take us for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from us.
Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now.
Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let’s just slow down and get some input from some nonpoliticians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law. We are not activists. We are not community organizers. Nor are terrorists, militant or violent persons. We are parents and grandparents. We work. We are busy. We are busy. We are busy, and we are tired. We thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave. You are personally letting us down!!! You have been a great congressman until now!
We entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. We believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think we find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? We do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility we have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. We are not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that we feel as if you would not trust us to make a single decision about our own lives and how we would live it but you should expect that we should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. We are sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all of the recent spending.
From our perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. We also know that we are far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington. Our president often knows all the right buzzword is unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don’t want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we’re morons.
We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate we guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we’re so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly the silent majority, all of us who quietly work , pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you. You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn’t ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us when he will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.
Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don’t care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now. We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back. We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired. Did you hear? We no longer care about your political parties. You need to be loyal to us, not to them. Because we will get you fired and they will not save you. If you do or can represent me, my issues, my views, please stand up. Make your identity known. You need to make some noise about it. Speak up. We need to know who you are. If you do not speak up, you will be herded out with the rest of the sheep and we will replace the whole damn congress if need be one by one. We are coming. Are we coming for you? No Keith, Tytler said it best two centuries ago:

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Sadly it appears we are headed down this path. I for one will kick and scream the whole way.

What a mess our country is in. The people wanted “change” in November of 2008. Well, they got it. The people of this country must use the most powerful tool available to them at the midterm elections and in 2012–the ballot. We must stop talking about “we need to do this” or ” we must do that”. It is time for freedom loving Americans, everyone, to become politically active at the grassroots level. If that means taking to the streets in massive protest, then so be it. Why do other countries such as Iran and China risk their lives for democracy, yet Americans sit quitely with their heads in the sand hoping that the “problems” will be taken care of by our government. Our “government” is self-serving. It is time to use the ballot to flush Washington and start over. It is time for common sense and patriotism to take up residence in the halls of Congress.

Connie, in Texas, mentioned voter laziness. In the Atlanta area we have had two fairly well attended tea parties. If everyone upset by the direction our country is taking would get out there we would have a massive crowd. I do not know why they do not take the time to attend. Puzzled.

Is the very idea that Congress actually reads the legislation they’re turning into the law of the land so foreign to them that it is funny? - Yes.
1000+ pages, I read somewhere? How many weeks would it take to read and understand it? Leaves the question: Who do they expect to implement it, and how? How big is the bunch of their “good friends” whom they’ll put on “our payroll”?

Is this even democracy? — NO! — The famous novelist/philosopher, Ayn Rand, once wrote: ‘Do not attempt to understand a great folly, merely ask what it accomplishes. You’ll know the answer.’, or words to this effect.

Along this line of thought, Kevin B. has it right. The racket gets on a roll more or less like this: Get wide-ranging legislation in place from the start. You don’t need to be too specific. It doesn’t have to work exactly as advertised. Just make sure there’s a little in it for everyone. Then you can “fix” it, later, to taste, once the money starts rolling in.

Dennis A. writes: “We have some stupid people running the country…” Well, Yes, in a way, but it’s more than that. Actually, they’re quite a clever bunch of crooks who are “all in on the same racket.” (Play along, you’re in and do well. Oppose, you’re out forever) Reminds me of another Ayn Rand novel, Atlas Shrugged. Anyway, there are probably a few exceptions. Rep King, R-IA comes to mind. These we need to find and identify and support and strengthen in every doable way, which is why I’m against just generally voting all incumbents out of office, although I can understand anybody mad enough to want to do that. It’s also a reason why I’m ambivalent about “term limits”. Although they would help to break up the current “racket”, we’d still be stuck with the mess they left and a huge bureaucracy to untangle and dismantle. To do that you need good people who are also experienced enough to know what to touch first and how hard to touch it, or you’ll make everything worse.

Come to think, that may be what a lot of incumbents are banking on. That the voter, however mad he gets, will be “smart” enough to spot the game and decide to be “in” enough (via his special interest group) to at least get a few crumbs, rather than oppose the racket and go begging. This is a very ancient mechanism whereby such political machines as Chicago’s Daley “gang” got formed and maintained. It’s the way ancient Rome worked, and Machiavelli’s 13th/14th century Florence. It probably also explains best our state’s very own political ogre, Barney Frank. You figure.

It should be mandatory that all representatives (not rulers) voting on any piece of legislation personally read it(in its entirety)and sign a statement saying they have done so before being allowed to vote. Several things could be accomplished: It would slow things down a bit, make everyone aware of the unnecessary crap being added to bills or prevent them from adding any pork because it tires them out or blinds them from trying to read bills 1,700 pages long. Just think how much money could be saved if there was NO PORK in legislation. I know this is wishful thinking so lets settle for TERM LIMITS for everyone in Washington.
