  • Stimulus Funds Gone Awry? Who Could Have Guessed?

A story coming out of Glendale, CA, reports that stimulus funds were used to help two non-profit organizations instead of a road in the city which has not been repaired since 1992. City officials believed that repairing the roads are a better fit for the purpose of the stimulus (shovel-ready public works projects); unfortunately, the Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee had already decided where the money was going to go before the city got to tell them that.

There are a few things wrong here. First of all, this is a gross misuse of public funds (even for stimulus funds).  Secondly, the road in Glendale actually needed to be repaired and city officials said it would cost more to repair later:

Officials also said that if South Glendale Avenue, which has not seen a major improvement since 1992, is not repaved within the next three to four years, it would need a complete reconstruction, costing the city more money.

However, since the New Horizons project has been shelved for the past three and a half years, they thought they were entitled to federal tax dollars. Executive Director of New Horizons, Maria Rochart, also stated that it would provide a more  permanent job as opposed to a temporary job “created” by the city. Wasn’t the purpose of the stimulus to be a temporary infusion of cash to help the the flailing economy? What is New Horizons going to do when they run out of stimulus funds and cannot afford to pay the person they hired? Are they going to beg for more taxpayer dollars? I would not put it past them.

Sounds to me like passing the buck to future administrations at which time will cost a lot more. Looks also like political payback, which the Obama administrations favorite "stimulus " plan.

Sounds like an ACORN group. These people have to go.

I want to know where the 'missing money' went. Is that the same money V.P. Biden said was 'misspent'?

Democrats robbing honest taxpayers to benefit their constituents- surprise, surprise.

    8. Sharp, General Deliv says:

I heard the figure of 8 billion dollars have gone to ACORN on one of the talk shows. Is this possible? What is the actual figure, and WHERE exactly has this money gone? I'm thinking that all this current Health Care conversation is nothing but a diversion, a smoke screen, perpetrated to hide the real issues from scrutiny, of the issues that will cause irreparable long term, hard to recover from damage to the economy and the safety of America, such as Cap and Trade, and especially growth of Obama's proposed "civilian force, as well equiped and funded as the military." Is this civilian force ACORN, that Obama was talking about? The economy and the internal safety of all Americans on our own soil is all I want to hear about until there's some clarity, disclosure. The only part of the American economy that has been "stimulated" by this administration has been for the gun/ammo industry and emergency food supplies. Seems like VP Biden should be informed, so he can hold a news conference and take credit.

This sounds like the one that the Gentleman who oversaw the Stimulus funding and filed a complaint against the Mayor of Sacromento, Ca. The man Obama fired! The Mayor who supported Obama. One and one still equals two. And who said crime doesn't pay? Everything that Mr. Obama does is Criminal under the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, and under just Common Sense, and all those around him seek to be doing real well!

    13. Jerry from Chicago says:

Stimulous money for John Murtha's personal, 3 flights per day airport; for bonuses to directors at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; for taking the smell out of pig manure; for removing tattoos from gang-bangers; for bridges and roads to nowhere; and for checks to dead people (must have been for those dead people that voted for him that were registered by ACORN – remember Mr. Obama comes from Chicago where this is normal voting behavior).

Did the government really spend $200 million to get released Guantanamo detainees sent to an island in the Pacific? Is the government really channeling money to Hamas? How much is the government sending to the U.N., you know that group that issues the fearsome 'binding resolutions'?
