  • Morning Bell: You Can't Trust Obama on Health Care

This past Monday, while selling his health care plan, President Barack Obama told the American Medical Association: “No matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise to the American people. If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.” The Congressional Budget Office disagrees. Their preliminary analysis of an incomplete Democratic health plan estimated that 10 million people would have to seek new insurance because their employers would no longer offer coverage. Once completed, that number should skyrocket.

Covering the gap between Obama’s promises and the reality of his health care plan, the Associated Press reported Friday:

White House officials suggest the president’s rhetoric shouldn’t be taken literally: What Obama really means is that government isn’t about to barge in and force people to change insurance.

Considering that the White House itself admits Obama’s health care promises “shouldn’t be taken literally,” results like the latest New York Times/CBS poll showing that 72% of those questioned support a government-run insurance plan, should be taken with a heavy dose of skepticism. That same NYT poll, which predominantly questioned Obama voters, showed only 43% of Americans would be willing to pay $500 a year more in taxes to pay for universal coverage. And the NYT did not ask how many Americans would be willing to give up their current health plan (77% of Americans are satisfied with their current plan) in exchange for a government-run option.

Remember, the plan the CBO scored did not include a government-run health insurance option. The Lewin Group has run such an estimate. The result: 119 million Americans would be forced off their current health plan and onto the government rolls. No wonder the NYT adds: “It is not clear how fully the public understands the complexities of the government plan proposal, and the poll results indicate that those who said they were following the debate were somewhat less supportive.”

Besides the cost of government-run insurance, and the fact that millions of Americans would lose their current coverage if it became law, the NYT poll identified other concerns Americans have about government-run health care. If the government created a system of providing health care for all Americans, 63% of those surveyed were concerned that the quality of their own health care would get worse; 68% were concerned that their own access to medical tests and treatments would be more limited; and 53% were concerned that they would be required to change doctors.

The American people know what the true costs of government-run health care would be: lower quality, less access, and less choice. As the health care debate continues this summer, and the reality behind Obama’s rhetoric is exposed, we’ll see how many people still support a government-run health insurance plan.

    1. Christopher Popham S says:

For several weeks, I have been blogging, messaging

news agencies and writing in my columns about a

viable allternative option to the health care issue. It is a co-operative program, now being

discussed and considered on Capitol Hill.

One such program is called the Alexander McGee

Medical Plan, and it, or some derivative of it,

might be the answer. For specific information on the McGee Plan, see my article entitled,

"Health Care-Who Cares-I Do" at the website,

      Thank you.

    2. Jack Kyle, Lubbock, says:

Getting Government Out of Health Care

Everyone who is against a government takeover of our health care system should stand up and proclaim that we will accept nothing less than that which our Congressmen and Senators have provided for themselves. It seems that some in our government want to throw us peons a bone while they enjoy the steak.

Many in our government want to control every aspect of our lives; health care is just another step. I would urge everyone to call or write his Representative to demand that we be given a health care system equal to that which we as taxpayers are providing for them. Why do they deserve anything better than what they want us to have? They should either give up their health care plan and come down to our level, bring us up to theirs, or leave it alone. Any conservative, fair-minded Representative would agree with this course of action. If they are given the choice between the two options, I think they will quickly decide to leave our health care system in the private sector.

Any Congressman that would be willing to stand up and declare his belief in this plan would be taking a giant step towards positioning himself as a champion of the people and a true conservative.

Who will champion our cause? Who will put our country ahead of personal gain?

    3. B. Christeleit, Pitt says:

Why aren't there more questions about the constitutionality of a Government run-health care system? For that matter, why aren't there more questions on the constitutionality of the bailouts, the corporate takeovers, and the unprecendented expansion of government? Where in the U.S. constitution does it allow for such atrocities? It's not a matter of whether a government run health care system is a good idea or not, it's a matter of whether the government has the authority to step in at all, and the resounding answer is NO.

    4. Tricia, Arizona says:

Obama-care, like National health care in the UK and in Canada and everywhere else it's been tried is a death sentence for much of the population, especially senior citizens. It actually covers a fraction of the population and even then leads to rationing. I'm really concerned that those who watch the Obama infomercial will believe what they hear and not look for true information. I don't watch the Obama media, but I'm afraid that a large number of people do. Our world is becoming scarier by the day…

    5. fayetteville nc says:

Fellow Americans: WE CANNOT AFFORD TO ACCEPT A MEDICAL PLAN. IT WILL SERVE ONLY TO RAISE OUR TAXES TO PROVIDE CARE TO ILLEGAL ALIENS AS I SEE IT.

    6. Grace Stanley, Chesa says:

The health care plan that Obama has proposed must be advertised more fully so that people can understand that they will be loosing in the long run. Please continue to get the word out. I do not want to loose my current health care plan.

      To: All Military Retirees:

This is a "Heads Up" on a battle we are facing now and down the road with the new administration. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has already drafted proposed legislation that would basically reduce our TRICARE for Life benefits to a system whereby we pay deductibles and co-pays up to $6,301 the first year for you and your spouse, with future years being indexed to increase with inflation.

Strongly recommend that you contact your elected officials and register your strong opposition to the elimination of=2 0the TFL program. Heads-up

ed,, i would like to hear the morning bell talk about senate bill sb-2099 that supposedly they won't even have to vote on because it can be passed by the finance committee . i truly believe obama is over reaching and as in life sometimes we have to step back to go forward thank you for what you do ,sincerely your member mike schroeder

    9. Grace Stanley, Chesa says:

Please continue to inform the American people about the Obama Health Care Plan, and the fact that they are in danger of loosing the coverage they now have. I do not want to loose my present coverage.

    10. Sue says:

My dad is 88 years old and in a wheelchair and a WWII vet. He is on oxygen at differnt times mostly at night. The other day the home health nurses were there and told him his oxygen level was too high at 93%. Normal is 99% and that he needed to get it down to 88% or other wise the new health care plan….he would lose the oxygenator machine. He cannot buy it either. A month ago they were concerned when his oxygen level was 84% and said to use the machine more often. It is just when he gets upset or has a bad day his oxygen level is affected.

Mr. Obama has got the famous bell curve. If you are on the low side of either side…you are expendable. But that is the problem as Hitler taught the world…with cost accounting it cost way to much to take care of the people. But lets also remember that many leaders decide this ….in many different ways. Saddam practiced germ warefare on many of his people.

I am sure it will get worse too. But should you wish to know the inside story maybe checking into the extended care programs or home health would be a way to find out. But we must be careful…destroying them is not a good solution either and they would likely do that too.. So be careful.

    11. Bob, Greeley, Co says:

Further evidence of the Idiocracy that has been elected by the majority of our fellow citizens that remain unaware of what is possible and what is not.

Democracy is predicated on an informed populace. We don't have that. I'm not sure many of them would be able to process the information if they were aware of it.

    12. Jay, Texas says:

This is simple! Make this "Change". All current and new government employees and ELECTED officials must be retroactively covered by the new healthcare system. They will not be allowed to seek other coverage outside of Obama-care.

    13. Mike Pryor, Lake Zur says:

Would it be possible for you to coordinate a response (similar to that which you did for the EPA last week) to the House, Senate and White House opposing the President's health care proposals? Perhaps you could set up an automatic response for everyone targeting their respective representative based on zip code.

      Mike

    14. Terri, Missouri says:

We can't trust Obama on Healath Care? What can we trust him on. It seems to me that on every issue he is less than truthful, to put it gently. Congress does want to give us "little people" enough to keep themselves in office as long as we pay for the privilege. Let's let them know that this is no longer a viable way to govern. Let's go back to a time when the government recognized that the Constitution limited its powers. As George Will said recently, the most beautiful words in the English language are "Congress shall make no law …" The Contstitution then goes on to list the things as to which Congress shall make no law. This proscription is violated everyday and has been for many years.

    15. Michael - New York N says:

The only thing transparent about the Obama administration is the lack of transparency.

    16. Havertown, PA says:

I am totally opposed to Obamacare and believe strongly that if it passes, Mr. Obama, his family, Congress and all Federal workers should have to give up the very generous package we taxpayers now provide and take whatever national plan emerges. If it's good enough for us, it's certainly good enough for the Obama family, isn't it??

    17. Hard2hide says:

Can't trust him on healthcare? You can't trust him on anything! How can you count the lies? How many does it take before you don't believe anything he says? I'm through listening to him…long ago!

    18. chyatt, albuquerque says:

Read my Lips, No New Taxes.

It's more lies, damn lies and statistics from a Chicago politician.

It's Mr. Obama's Opus…a tepid, un-realistic and noisy sheet of music with no

      melody.

I would be less callous if he would just come out and declare that he intends to turn us into a 21st Century Socialist Republic, instead of saying he wants to save the free enterprise system.

Sorry. Forgot I am talking about a Chicago politician.

    20. Carol in az says:

      To Jeff from FL;

Thank you for the "heads up" regarding the attempt to, one more time, screw the military, who are promised when signing -up ,they will have the following benfits for life.

We are also retired (USN) but still work, and are also keeping appraised of the current changes in the "tri-care for life" laws.

Now I will ask you and others out there to also keep appraised of the possibility of allowing illgels , to be granted Social Security benefits.

This rumor I fear is more than rumor.

Can you imagine how many, "in the shadows " certainly millions in your state, who will come-out-" for the taking of, and further scaming of, this country. Another example of the "fleecing of America."

Your lack of leadership in FL on this topic, has resulted in millions in entitlement dollars on all levels.

Before they slice another piece of my promised medical benefits which will affect thousand of men women who have given so much to this country our gov't better be very clear who deserves to be counted on, and who deserves to be deported.

The duplicity on this topic runs deep on all levels.

Please try to become pro-active in your area and take back your State on a county by county level. Put pressure on all businesses who hire non-Americans. Put pressure on leadership to pass E-Verify .

This sick cycle must be broken. I am supporting thousands who are here for the free ride and we Americans have allowed it to continue.

When America wants men and women to protect and serve, they better be very clear about whom they can depend on. Thanks ahead. Carol , AZ

    22. GW Starch III, Tulsa says:

Hey, did you guys just wake up? You can't trust "The Usurper" on anything. He's gotta go. I find it hard to comprehend that this once great nation has elected a non-citizen to the highest office in the land. May God help us all,'cause it looks like none of our rightful leaders are doing anything.

    23. Richard Cancemi, Arl says:

I will say it over and over; Obama has never ever been honest with the American people.

He is "burning" America while Congress and the Judiciary "fiddles".

If no one stands up to him, and soon, we will have nowhere to stand!

Socialism is in no way better than Americanism. It's sad and bad-enough that socialism has already invaded our lives in so many ways.

Obama has violated the Constitution over and over since taking an oath to uphold and protect it. It's time for people in Congress and citizens to seek impeachment.

    24. NYstatehome says:

What no one is pointing out that the taxpayers will pay for but the unions complained to Obama so now they will be tax exempt. So, unbelievable.

    25. David Sayers, NC says:

What the white house officials really meant to say was if obamas lips are moving,he's lying to you. Jack from Texas is spot on,if these morons think we need a government run health plan, make it easy and just give us the same plan that congress has. If not, congress should have the same plan that the rest of us end up with. While they are at it, thier retirement plan should also be shared with the rest of us,oh feel the love. Really komrades, somebody is in line to make a large amount of money from this but it ain't going to us. Call your congressman and tell he or she that they work for us,not the other way around and they have done enough damage.

    26. Doc Bob, Houston, Te says:

For those eagerly awaiting quality government-run medical care, please review the stories on the Veteran's Administration health services: using unsterile equipment and spreading deadly infections, scattering radioactive 'seeds' intended for the prostate into bladder, rectum and perineum, and on into the night. Go sit in a VA medical center waiting room and ask how long it took for the recipient to get an appointment and whether or not their 'doctor' can speak English. Folks just don't understand that government-run health care will cost even more than the Post Office or Amtrak, and run with the care and concern of the IRS/DMV.

    27. Lori, St. Louis, MO says:

We already know that Obama won't admit this will be the end of

the private health insurance, so there's no way he's gonna

even contemplate how many health insurance companies will go out of business and in turn how many jobs are going to be eliminated by going to the single payer system. Surely these companies employ millions of people. Say goodbye to those jobs.

    28. Spiritof76 says:

Obamacare will be a deathknell to senior citizens of this country. It will eliminate innovation in medicine and will result inevitably in rationing.

It is so depressing to read everyday about the forced socialism on the previously free Americans. It is a slavery foisted on our children and grandchildren. Aren't there enough freedom loving Americans left to take our country back to its founding principles of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness?

    29. TC South Carolinaoul says:

Congress, with the 1st Bailout, and Obama and Congress with the 2nd Bailout, got both of them passed without anyone really knowing what was in the bills, how the money would be spent, or more importantly, how the money would be accounted for. These were just warm-ups to this Health Care Bill, which has not been written yet (that we know about)and is certainly not understood by Congress and especially the American people. The precedent has been set, so look for this to be crammed through Congress with a "we've got to pass this now!" battle cry, before it can be debated or thoroughly reviewed. So much for a partisan, checks and balance gov'mt.

The GOP doesn't want health care

so DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM.

Instead ONLY give it those that

      NEED and Want it.

    32. Terri, St. Louis says:

I too aagree with Havertown. If it's good enough for the rest of us it's good enough for the Obamas. This goes for the DC public schools too by the way. Not gonna happen

    33. SuzieD says:

Seniors need to focus much more attention on the promises Mr. Obama makes that amount to copious quantities of lies and misrepresentations. He expounds on the 47 or 49 million Americans without health care, but the facts are much different. 10-14 million are illegals he is attempting to provide citizenship and indebtedness for more votes! They are not Americans. About 15 million are Americans who elect not to have insurance coverage, but could. Obviously the actual number is well below Mr. Obama's figure. Let's bring on the 2010 Census, which may include the 10-14 mentioned above, invade our personal privacy and gather more information than has ever been asked or required. Americans need to stop this Congress and this President and keep what is left of our freedoms and democracy.

    34. Jack Kyle, Lubbock, says:

For the first time we the tax payer hold the trump card. For the first time a problem, that of providing “health care”, directly affects something that every Congressman and Senator has. They cannot run away or hide behind some obscure parliamentary maneuver. If we demand to have the same health care plan that they have, they will only have two choices. They will have to give us their plan or be seen as the elite, pompous, blowhards that most are.

If the 65 million that voted for Obama and big government would demand equal treatment under the law from Congress and demand nothing less than the health care provided to them, every elected democrat would be forced to comply or withdraw.

The same applies to the 57 million that voted for McCain, they can either vote to give us their health care plan or withdraw.

I think that both sides will decide that this is too hot a potato to handle and leave our health care system in the hands of private enterprise

For a long time the rest of the World thought we Americans were an idiotic group of people. Last November we had an election and removed all doubt.

Think about it. Aside from the IRS, nothing in Government pays or saves, or works better than the Private Sector!

Our Health Care Problem is that all we have in Washington DC to voice our Will are attorneys! The only way to lower Health Care costs is to put a cap, alimit on Mal Practice Suits, and Wrongful Drug Suits, and anything having to do with the Healing of people suits! This is the fist and only reason Medical Care cost so much is all the insurance They have to purchase to protect Them from Lawyers!

The Medical fields are not the only ones in fear of law suits. One half the cost of the little step ladder that you use in your own home is Liability Insurance. Reson, no caps.

The reason that there are no caps is that all the people who make all our Laws are Lawyers, or have Law degrees and went right into Politics, which is the same thing, really.

Ronald Reagan was right, Politics is the oldest profession, with Prostitution coming in second. Do you kow how to tell the difference between a politition and a prostitute? There are certain things a prostitute will not do! You can substitute Lawyer for Politition, still fits.

There has been absolutely NOTHING to trust when it comes to the American president. He doesn't mean what he says and he doesn't say what he means. There is no truth. Mixed messages and I'm sure, coded ones.

He is undisciplined, follows no rules but his own! Ignoring every basic American principle, including his actual role as President. Ignoring implementation of solutions brought through by the private sector. Isn't it obvious he DESPISES EVERYTHING AMERICA?????? INCLUDING THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN CONTROL OF THEIR OWN LIVES???!!!

In consideration of his pathological penchant for lying about the murderer Bill Ayers, the racist bigotted obscenity known as Rev. Wright, the hysterical Pfleger, his actual birth certificate, what can anyone with an ounce of common sense believe of this Empty Suit?

Healthcare? Leave it alone. BUT, if the insurance companies can be made to face the very real possibility of their becoming non-existent…maybe this will spark some real concerns for people- making their insurance reasonable in cost so folks can have annual physicals thereby avoiding the excessive costs associated with terminal diseases, allowing them to be caught prior to that, saving the tax payers money becuase those suffering from those diseeases who have no insurance become a burden to the taxpayer.

This seems to be exactly what the insurance companies want to do. Sometimes the obvious is too obvious to the uninformed or casual observer…..

As for the Empty Suit- do not believe a word he has to say based on his "record" so far.

This current president does not represent me in any way, shape or form. In my humble opinion-"for the first time in my adult life, I'm truely ashamed of my country". This pretend president is an anti-american, freedom hating person that has an agenda of remaking this country as he sees fit. Not his job to remake this country! We have an inexperienced, incapable, so called leader that hates America as she has been for 200 years, and creates dire situations to "fool" the foolish people who voted for this man-boy. Obamama is anti-american, he is a coward and a pacifist-a very dangerous combination in todays world. Obamama, I question your patriotism!!!

    42. JOHN TATE, FARMINGTO says:

As a former business owner who provided healthcare for employees, I fully agree with the CBO that forced, mandated, employer-provided healthcare will uninsure many americans, and/or help eliminate jobs (something that President Obama proclaims every day will not happen). I can't help but wonder about the rhetoric of business owners getting rich while workers become poorer. I, like many business people have gone with less to make sure my employees get paid, and I paid their employer portion of the healthcare premiums. If this healthcare bill passes, expect more and continued unemployment and uninsured workers as more businesses will terminate healthcare plans in favor of staying in business.

I often wonder how successful some congress people would be if they ran their own businesses instead of telling us how to run ours?

    43. M. Brown, vista ca says:

There are over 6 million people in california without health-care insurance . The state cannot afford to insure them . We the tax payers do not want to be taxed to do so. The illegal aliens have bankrupt this state with all the free services they get. The states should provide more clinics for the healthcare . I know people that go to the local clinics when sick or need to see a doctor. Services are on a sliding scale for payment. Emergency care at the local hospitals. This is affordable healthcare. The socialism healthcare President Obama is pushing will cost trillions of tax dollars . He doesn`t give any definate figures or plans for it .This will be the biggest mess and we will all have to get in line for any care, except the polititions . Canada,Europe and other countries are warning us do not start it . This administration is getting us deeper in debt to foreignors and we will pay higher taxes for it . If you don`t have insurance go to your local clinic Congressman Issa please stop the bill .

Just a thought. How many of you are getting your information from Sean Hannity of Faux News? After reading what you have to say, I see no sources or facts, just opinions. Surely you must have some reason for believing that he hates American other than the pathological lies told by Faux News.

Everyone of these accusations can be disproved by simply going to snopes. Anyone tried? Bill Ayers didn't murder anyone. There is no proof Reverend Wright ever had his ear and he has produced his birth certificate.

As for health care. Yes, let's just leave it in the hands of the 'FOR PROFIT' insurance companies/lobbyist, pharmaceuticals, fat cat politicians and Big Money people. After all, their whole existence depends on how much money they can make on our illnesses. Even some of the Fat Cat Democrats in congress are finding it hard to stand up to the 'money' people who have hands in their pockets.

Obama is trying his best to offer the people a single-payer option, but he's not getting enough help. 72% of Americans want health care reform but they are frightened by Republican scare tactics. The same tactics they use everytime. Words like 'Socialism and Big Government Takeover'. They know if ordinary people hear audacious lies repeated often enough they will believe them no matter how many times they have seen this cycle repeat itself. Looking at who is on the opposing side of health care reform, everyone should automatically know which side to be on. If not, I have a policy to sell you.
