    Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus’ recent off-the-cuff remarks to CBO Director Elmendorf highlight the critical role the CBO will play in the coming health care debate as it evaluates and scores the various proposals. Senator Baucus also demonstrated the pressures the CBO is under, and the ease with which Members of Congress can appear to overstep themselves. Baucus told Director Elmendorf he has a moral duty to be “creative” so that CBO can deliver favorable budget estimates. That comment was improper and Chairman Baucus should “clarify” his position.

While the Senator almost certainly did not intend to leave the impression he was dictating to CBO, his remarks could be interpreted by some as suggesting the CBO cook the books to get the results necessary to pass legislation. To do so would not only kill health care reform, but it would destroy CBO’s reputation and usefulness. With Baucus’ words hanging in the air, to preserve the CBO’s effectiveness Director Elmendorf must now be doubly careful not to appear to lean toward those results Senator Baucus might find favorable.

Everyone involved in health care reform remembers how the CBO under Director Robert Reischauer delivered the coup de grace to the Clinton health care effort 16 years ago. Senator Baucus will play a pivotal role in the coming debate, and so his remarks have unfortunately elevated the pressure on CBO. He should clarify his remarks to reassure everyone involved, including the CBO Director, that his only intention was to underscore how important the CBO’s best work is to this process.

CBO director must declare that the hoodlums in Congress that are trying to undermine its integrity to back off. The Congress is the one that is cooking the books, have for along time and will in the future without American electorate doing the house cleaning. We need to get rid of all the incumbents and slash the federal power, budget and most of all their arrogance.

We must denationalize everything starting with GM (not Government Motors). We must reduce the pay and benefits paid to the Congressmen. They should pay for their health care and must not get any pension.

Baucus is a case in point of the corruption of our government. The "get what we want at any cost" mentality the current admin is operating under is a disgrace. The list of people and actions is building for the prosecution one day. I hope I live long enough to enjoy it.

Baucus is another spineless political weasel that consistently votes along the party line. He is a voice for the vindictive agenda of the Democratic party which is destroying America from within. He as well as the extreme radical estrogen wing of the Democratic political party Boxer, Feinstein, Tauscher,Clinton, Pelosi, Etc,as well as the other agenda voting line toter's, Must be put out to pasture. This would be a start for America. Legislation needs to be passed in which the checks and balances system will continue to remain working for the benefit of America. Not for the benefit of ONE party.

I watched Don Siegelman ex Governor of Alabama and current resident of Federal Prison while he

dug his grave in Alabama with questionable behavior. Now I watch the current Federal Legislature do the same things.

I hope I live to see them join Siegelman.

Bacus' "being creative" is simply tell a lie so it doesn't look so financially bad!
