  • Morning Bell: Stop the Health Care Bailout Before it Starts

The last time Congress debated fundamental health care reform, America’s health insurance industry fought against more government control of your health care, most famously with the “Harry and Louise” ad depicting a typical middle class family in despair. This time around, however, the health insurance industry is supporting more government control of your health care. Why? Because key reformers are offering to use government coercion to force fifty million Americans to become new health insurance customers. What industry wouldn’t want the government to create 50 million new customers overnight?

In his primary challenge with then-Senator Hillary Clinton, then-Senator Barack Obama said he was against government mandates that would force individuals to buy health insurance. Now that he is in power, President Obama is much more open to the idea. Before he departed for the Middle East and Europe last week, President Obama sent a letter to Congress explaining he would support mandates if they enabled him to also establish a government-run health insurance plan. We’ve covered the dangers of a public health insurance plan before, so we’ll turn to a study written by one of Obama’s own nominees, HHS Assistant Secretary of Planning and Evaluation Dr. Sherry Glied, to detail why individual mandates would be terrible public policy:

    • High Costs: “Funds diverted from uncompensated care would not be sufficient to pay for the subsidies needed to cover most uninsured people. Eliminating the free-rider problem through universal insurance might make the health care system more fair, but it wouldn’t make it less costly.”
    • A New Tax: “The mandate is in many respects analogous to a tax. It requires people to make payments for something whether they want it or not.”
    • Special Interest Bonanza: “The relative invisibility of the mandate ’tax’ may make it easier for special interests to achieve their goals. The mandate, then, would become a means through which special interests use government to force transfers of funds from consumers to the health care sector.”
    • Unprecedented Intrusion: “Like taxes, a mandate requires enforcement if it is to be effective. …Developing a system to promptly identify and penalize scofflaws will take effort and ingenuity, particularly in our diverse and mobile country. It may require a degree of intrusiveness and bureaucracy that some will find unpalatable.”

The insurance industry’s willingness to accept a government-mandated bailout is extremely shortsighted since it ignores the reason their industry is in trouble in the first place: existing government health care. The Los Angeles Times explains:

The industry’s real trouble begins in 2011, when 79 million baby boomers begin turning 65. Health insurers stand to lose a huge slice of their commercially insured enrollment (estimated at 162 million to 172 million people) over the next two decades to Medicare, the government-funded health insurance program for seniors.

“The rate of aging far and away exceeds the birth rate,” said Sheryl Skolnick, a CRT Capital Group healthcare investment analyst.

There is an alternative principled path to health care reform, which controls costs by putting health care decisions in the hands of consumers, not bureaucrats in Washington. Tomorrow at 7:00 PM, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) will host a special tele-town hall to discuss a conservative vision for health reform. Sign up to join the discussion today.

    Quick Hits:

    • Conservatives scored victories in some of Europe’s largest economies Sunday as voters punished left-leaning parties in European parliament elections in France, Germany and elsewhere.
    • Of the $5 billion in stimulus money going to weatherize homes (a total that is double what the federal government has spent since the 1970s), 31% of it will go to keeping homes cooler in Sun Belt states like Florida and Arizona.
    • The Obama administration plans to require banks and corporations that have received two rounds of federal bailouts to submit any major executive pay changes for approval by a pay czar who will monitor compensation.
    • President Barack Obama promised today to deliver more than 600,000 jobs through his $787 billion stimulus plan this summer, despite jobs reports showing rising unemployment.
    • According to Gallup, while President Obama’s personal approval ratings are high; his ratings on specific areas are less positive including negative ratings on deficits and spending.

      Always interesting to hear

      guys WITH health care

      tell how-

      the world would end

    2. Shawn Overcash, Char says:

here is the offense and the defense: Govco hasn't even addressed the first problems it created with social security, medicare and medicade, nor is it willing to discuss it with the public. Show us the solution to these problems before Govco can think it has the right to create another one!!!

    3. Ozzy6900, CT says:

It's nice to write all about how bad Nationalized Health Care is but in reality, no one cares!

      1. There are too many people without health Insurance that want the "free" insurance from the Government.

      2. Only people who read the Foundry or listen to Rush or Hannity, have any understanding why Nationalized Health Care is bad.

      3. People really believe that national Health Care in Canada, england and Europe actually works!

      4. There are no Republicans in office with guts enough to stand up and say "This is wrong! The process is illegal! President Obama is turning into a dictator!"

Face it, we are not going to stop it!

    4. bart burlison says:

stop health care.–every time the government takes control of anything it fails and goes broke. do not let mr. obama raise taxes–lower taxes and the government will end up with more money–look at president reagan in the 1980s. stop the spending in washington.

    5. Earl, Queens, NY says:

If my memory is correct, the most flagrant and arrogant statement was from Senator J.D. Rockefeller (D-WV) back in the 1990’s. He said Americans will get national health care whether they want it or not. If Rockefeller, Hillary Clinton, and many of the uninformed morons who elected Obama really want government-run health care, I have the answer – buy each of them a one-way ticket on British Airways or Air Canada!

    6. Jon, Chesapeake VA says:

I am not sure why the left is so bent on supporting Obama in this effort. All you have to do is look at the European or Canadian systems and see that it doesn't work. I along with my company pay a fair amount of money for healtcare but am very pleased with what I receive. My wife had a serious infection in her knee this past winter that required a week long hospital stay and surger that only cost us about $500 out of pocket. What would have happened to her if we were to have been under government controlled healthcare? I am pretty sure that she would not have received the same quality of care. There has to be a better answer than the government controlling every aspect of our lives. What makes us think that they can manage this with the way the have bankrupted Social Security and Medicare. I love this country as much as I love anything on this planet but to me it is very sad the direction that we are going. I am still very proud to fly my American flag and fly it every day but am not please with the direction that we are being forced to travel with this new administration.

    7. John, Michigan says:

I'm sorry, Health care should never have been a profit center in the first place, health care is a need if you want a productive society. The Republicans want to protect the profit of these organizations, they don't seem to care that every year a few million more people lose their coverage as the costs increase double digits every year. Even companies aren't buying decent policies anymore and have been shifting the costs to the employees. People with pre-existing conditions have no options unless they are lucky enough to have large sums of cash to buy their own policies, and even then sometimes their condition isn't covered for a set period of time.

The insurance industry pays people to deny your coverage and gives them bonus's for the money they save for the bottom line. They waste hundreds of millions advertising their drugs to get you to bother your doctors for drugs you don't need. We need a system that allows the doctor and patient to work in the best interest of the patient, so theta the patient can get well and become productive again. People don't want to have to choose between pain and suffering or worrying about a medical bankruptcy for something they have no control over (accidents and injuries).

The fear is if a public option becomes available, that the industry itself won't be able to set their own rates, there really is no free market or competition. We need to get away from the bureaucracy and get back to treating people. We can keep a private option for selective surgery such as breast implants, liposuction, face lifts, or most plastic surgeries that ARE NOT necessary procedures, unless it's used for re constructive purposes after a fire, accident, injury or birth deformation that poses a health risk to the individual.

    8. JAB, SPRING LAKE, MI says:

As a single mother of four, i was able to pay for their health care, and mine on a very slim salary. Of course, that was before Uncle Sam intruded. The following quote says it all.

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." — THOMAS JEFFERSON

    9. Proud citizen says:

Sounds like a scary movie: We would all be walking around with a tag stapled on our ear like cattle. You are a number with your private information in the system. You would stand in a long line to see if you are worthy of the medicine you need (step behind the those illegals here.) Premature babies, old people, who will be denied expensive treatment because tax dollars are running short..and the beat goes on.

The social security system going broke should be just one red flag to most intelligent people.

    10. jacksmith says:

Howard Dean and the Democrats are correct.

"a" (Toothy, Robust, Affordable, Immediate, Triggerless, Medicare-Like ) "public health insurance option" (For All Who Want It) "is more important than bipartisanship, and Democrats should pass health-care legislation that includes the option with 51 votes if necessary."

"Democrats should have "no intention" of working with Republicans if it's not the strongest possible legislation that could be passed with a simple majority." (Howard Dean)

CONTACT CONGRESS and your representatives Now! And tell them you demand ALL of the minimum requirements above. This is the time for maximal, toothy, sustained pressure on Congress to get this done. Be creative. But be relentless.

This is what WE THE PEOPLE gave the Democrats all that power to do for ALL of us.

In medicine and healthcare there is only one acceptable standard. And that standard is the HIGHEST level of EXCELLENCE! you can provide for everyone. Nothing less is acceptable for a precious human life.

And the White House is right. "Good health care reform is essentially good economic policy." (Christina Romer)

BUT HEAR ME WELL! Just as I warned you before 911. Before the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And before the US and Global economic crisis.

I must tell you now that healthcare reform is now a critical matter of NATIONAL SECURITY. A-H1N1 (Swine Flu) was yet another loud WAKE-UP! call. And there is MUCH! worse lurking, and poised to strike at any moment. Working against the clock, many of us have known this for a long time now. And this is why we have been pushing so hard for so long without fully saying why. But Congress and the American people are literally running out of time.

I'll tell you more later. But get healthcare reform done NOW!.

      God Bless All Of You

    11. Jake LHC says:

National Heathcare will be just like obamas craps and shove foney fraudulent carbon tax. It will send costs payed by middleclass hardworking American Citzens soaring. Where, with obama driving all the industrys housing, banking and auto industries out of business are these good paying jobs suppose to come from to pay for obamas foney proposals. Now obama wants to set pay limits. Where is his degree or experience in economics 101 coming from. We can not handle anymore of obamas spending.

It time to teach responsibility in our schools and colleges not that the goverment owes government doles heathcare, a living and gas for their cars.

    12. Michael Peterson says:

why doesn't someone list a variety on medical conditions, like breast cancer for example, then compare the long term survival time with in a variety of health care systems (US, Canada, France, England). If we did that with a variety of life threating conditions we should be comparing apples with apples. Medical outcomes should be part of the equation. If you may lower cost but will decrease survival (particularly with older baby boomers) now that is something to fight the battle over.

    13. Nelia, AZ says:

Even though evidence clearly spells out Socialized Medicine is a disaster in Canada and elsewhere – and certianly is not free, those who promote it obviously couldn't care less.

The same with the Global warming crowd who in spite of conclusions to the contrary by such as NASA, continue to insist it is man-caused. Perhaps profit is the bottom line and in the hidden agenda for promoters standing to create wealth from special interest groups and personal investments — and such as Al Gore, who is raking in millions with his lies.

Contact your senators and representatives now.

    14. michael hutchings says:

    15. Tim M. Brantley says:

I wonder when will the American citizenry ever wake up to the real perils that we all face as a nation. Our house of cards is falling apart, and healthcare is only one issue. I don't think anyone is Washington is smart enough to figure this one out, except to appease some special interest groups. Our representatives do not seem to have the backbone to take a stand on any issue, much less actually fix anything.

    16. Whicket Williams Kin says:

The problem is NOBODY cares one whit for anybody else. and everybody is willing to sell everybody else down the river to get MORE MONEY. the population are looked upon as "CASH COWS" to be used, abused, and discarded. There is not one person, or group, who cares about anything except their own self intrest, and if you think there are, you are a fool, just the kind of person they love, easily manipulated. "Love thy neighbor as thyself" only Christians believe this, and most people who claim to be Christian do not REALLY live by it. I urge everybody to Please try to live by it, every little bit helps. When Christian principals are all gone this will be a horrible place.

    17. Al Morgan, Arkansas says:

It is time that Americans stand up, call their Senators and Representatives and demand the Obama be impeached and removed from office or they will be removed in 2010.

    18. DOUG. B.; DAVIE, FL says:

Health Care; has been going down hill since, maybe, 1980?

      Administrations; 20-years Republican & 8-years Democratic.

      Worthwhile systems enhancements = 0 !!!

Socialism won't work — check out the EU Elections over the weekend.

But, 28 years of inaction seems to have led to "Any Port In A Storm."

So, we are probably in for the "Obama Experience,"

until, like the EU Electorate, we wake up and do something about it.

Hang in there — only 3-years, 71/2 months to go!!!

    19. sandy arizona says:

Here is the problem as I see it. in 2006 alone, the cost of providing social, medical, law enforcement and educational services to illegal aliens from every level of government is estimated at an astounding 53 billion per year.

Can you imagine what the cost is today?

Govt must be held accountable. Lets recall every senator who voted against the will of the people and sue every govt agency who has not performed their govt function, i.e. FAA who has not required pilots to pass every skill test before they are allowed to carry passengers. Some have failed 5-7 skill tests and yet are in the air with your life in danger. They have also died in the plane crashes. Our aircraft maintenance has in many cases been outsourced. Are you Proud of your govt?

Get your grass roots organizations involved and lets make our voices heard and responded to

    20. Tom Vail, Oregon says:

The chart at http://ttoes.wordpress.com tells the story of superior outcomes in the US compared to Canada and Europe. The post also shows the slipper slope down which "Universal Healthcare" will take us. Imagine Universal Clothing Supply or Universal Housing. They are next.

    21. Patti, California says:

Face it…. We may be doomed.

This is just ANOTHER example of how lib's are forcing thier socialization, collectivism on us.I finished reading "Liberty and Tyranny, by Mark Levine. And now I am half way through the book "Atlas Shrugged" , and these events happening now, are too close to what is happening in the book. Very close…Scary close. And Ann Ran's book is just a Novel! One with frightening insight into what could happen and IS beginning to happen this very moment.

Is Democratic America with it's roots in Free Market Capatalism going to fall, or will the Conservatives find a true leader, and a way to turn this madness around before it is too late? It may come to the point of no return. Brace yourself.

History proves that Socialism does not work. What we may be facing is SO radical, that it is actually has the smack of Communism. So says Castro and his Latin American counterparts. They think it's funny! Carl Marx is dancing in his grave, with Nakita Kruschev..

Hard work and individual desires to create, make profit, and live life in peace, and give back to society by means of love, and charity, with NO desire to suck off of social programs, will soon be a thing of the past if this keeps up.

      Share the wealth?

Since when are we required to share the fruits of our labor, with someone who cares not to labor, for the betterment of themselves?

      Not buying it.

      I am OUT of here

to parts unknown…unless someone cares to really find me, I'll be somewhere in the sun, playing my guitar and working on my new project….which is going to make me millions…in whatever form of wealth is NOT going to eventually be "worthless". That is, until the government decides to try and take it from me.

I will not go down with the ship. I won't throw my arms up, in surrender.

I was responsible, payed my bills. I have NEVER bought or owned a brand new, shiny car (who needs one)…I didn't buy a boat, diamonds, or toys with the equity on my house.

I worked very hard, fulltime at a very physical job for a Utility Co, in the cold, high elevation, snowy mountains of the Sierra's. Outside. Everyday. It was not such an easy job, but it payed well and gave us good benefits.

That is what it took to raise my kids, and offer them something more.

I used my equity in the house, over the years for general improvements and to HELP TAKE CARE OF MY CHIDLREN, as their father was not very charitable….just self-riteous. Not suprising, but ironic, now Obama wants his $$$$$$ too!

He just doesn't know it yet because he watches the state fed media news goonies who have "tingly feelings running down there legs;"..AND I know that he voted for Obama, and is in love with him.

A PROUD middle class American, single Mom of three grown kids, who's father and grandfather, both fought for all our freedoms, INCLUDING the kindergardners in the Obama Administration, while they were in their Ivy League schools learning to say…Uhhhhhhh,..Uh. UM.. and doing their Thesis on Saul Alynsky's :Ten Rules For Radicals, which was dedicated to Lucifer!!

      alRIGHTy then….

    22. John, Arizona says:

In the scream of rising health care costs, why is there little or no discussion concerning physicians costs?

I recently went to a dermatologist who spent 12 minutes with me, burned off one "spot" and scraped off another, and the bill was $750.00.

Is it worth it to protect from skin cancer? Anything is worth that, but isn't this an indication of costs out of control?

    23. David Sayers, NC says:

If the government is in your life now, and you want more of their control and ineptness, you komrade, are freakin nuts. The last thing you should be wishing for is more government in your life. These thugs are all about control, money and power. They care not a lick about you, your family or your station in this life. Think about it,they have managed in just a very short period of time to run the economy into the ground, trample on the Constitution, weaken America by giving aid and comfort to the enemy and then claim all of our ills were someone else's fault. The very best thing that Americans can do is vote all these morons out of office and demand that obama be impeached long before the 2010 elections. And to Komrade Ken,What?

    24. William R. Casey, PE says:

Here is an excerpt from the June 2009 newsletter I received from a company I deal with run by two brothers from my wife's home town in Germany:

"Since medical care in Germany is mostly government health care and money is getting scarce, they now have reached a point where doctors and nurses are totally overworked and frequently underpaid. Often the solution is to just give them (paitents)drugs – not according to their specific needs, but according to the drug companies' directions."

Yes, those European health care plans are great.

    25. Richard Cancemi, Arl says:

I am sick of the Obama dictatorship! I am sick of the morons in Congress who are selling the USA down the drain just to "go along" with the party line!

Half of the country did not want Obama; yet, we are having his socialistic ideology rammed down our throats. Where are the opposition leaders? I hear lamentations from the Right, But nothing in reality that would put a halt to Obama and his shenanigans.

Someone or group should call for his impeachment! Lord knows he's been trampling on our Freedoms and the Constitution since day one.

The man is a disgrace both at home and abroad!

I'm with Rush Limbaugh: AMERICA? YES! Obama? NO!

    26. Angel, Ohio says:

go spend a afternoon at a city emergency room — particularly a childrens hospital and see how ridiculous the national health care concerns are. Recently I brought my son to an ER only because the pediatrician wanted him to have a blood test. As we sat there (3 hours) waiting to be seen, most of the parents waiting with their children knew many of the other families waiting to be seen. Most of the children did not appear to be ill. One mother said that her baby needed orajel, something which could be purchased over the counter for teething discomfort.

My point is that the people that abuse the system do so now without national health care. No one turns them away. Most are expecting to be taken care of.

When will all of this stupidity stop? Maybe not until they bankrupt the entire country and we speak Mandarin.

It is called the Alexander McGee Medical Plan and

is a different way of approaching excessively high

health costs. The plan or a derivative of it, is clearly worth consderation. If you wish to read

Is that what we want?

    33. glgphd, Ponte Vedra says:

I am in the process of finalizing and will be sending a version of the following letter to Representative Mica, Senator Nelson, and Senator Martinez. Feel free to copy parts of it and send a similar letter to your government representatives:

I'm a licensed psychologist with a private practice in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. I’ve been helping individuals, couples, and families for over 17 years.

I oppose a government option in health insurance on the basis of (a) moral, legal, and economic principles, (b) bad experiences with Medicare and other poorly operated government programs, and (c) my understanding of how the practice of medicine suffers under government programs in other countries.

A government option would unleash a gigantic gorilla that would wreak havoc with doctor-patient relationships and destroy the quality of health care in this country. Rationing health care is inevitable under a government option–and wrong. Forcing doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies to sell their goods and services at prices dictated by the whims of a health care czar is also inevitable under a government option–and wrong. Taxing one group of people to pay for the health care of another group is inevitable under a government option–and wrong. For the same reason, shifting the burden of health care expenses onto subsequent generations is immoral.

I am encouraging all of my professional colleagues in the medical community to oppose any government option.

If you vote for a government option, I will be contributing to and working for your opponent in 2010. I am also encouraging others do the same.

If you insist on destroying the practice of medicine and other health professions, I look forward to helping you into retirement to live among your former constituents, including the health care professionals effectively enslaved by Congress to accept price controls and ration care to their disgruntled patients.

If you vote for a government option, I would suggest you travel to another country for health care. If I were you, I would not want to be under the scalpel of a surgeon I scalped. I'd also be wary of letting any health professionals mess with your mind.

    34. MJW says:

When medicine is socialized your body will become public property,in violation of the fourth amendment and Roe v. Wade

    35. Dennis A. Social Cir says:

We need socialized health care like we need obama. Both are worthless when the governemnt is involved in it. Wake up folks, we are in a heap of do-do.

    36. EP, Florida says:

Where are the Republicans in Congress? Would one of you get some backbone and at least try to slow this runaway socialized train? I don't want Obamacare! I don't need the government poking their noses in every facet of my life!

    37. Michael Kirsch, M.D. says:

Many excellent points. See many related postings on health care reform at physician blog at http://www.MDWhistleblower.blogspot.com.
It is Obama's health care reform plan that needs to be reformed. This will be one of several consequences of the last presidential election.

    38. Steve, Ohio says:

I know that I am only agreeing with many of the great comments made earlier, but it is helpful to get it off my chest. The problem with healthcare is that no-one "wants" to pay for it. Our country wants everything for free especially things that are not fun to pay for. A better house, car, new clothes, golf clubs etc are "fun" to get, but a necessity like medical care we want for free.

They are turning our country into a third world fascist state. Go ahead! I can't wait. There is a "well-to-do" class of people in every third world country. Those that live rich lives in the middle of peasantry. I will be one of the well-to-do and will not stand in line for healthcare. The doctor will come to my house when I am paying cash and the rest of America is standing in line at the local 24 hour doc in a box.

When is someone going to talk (for real) about ceceding from this broken union. If we are split 50/50 politically, why wouldn't we just make it official and split the country in half.

Marxists, Socialists, Fascists, and communists on one side, with all their government freebies and those of us who want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness on the other. We disagree so strongly on how things should work, why not just agree to disagree and part ways. We can have low taxes (only for those things in the constitution), freedom and happiness and they can have crisis after crisis all working together for the common good! Let's do it!

    39. Dan Chicago says:

GOVCO's medicare program will be bankrupt in a coupe of years and at current program levels will generate a $70 TRILLION cumulative deficit over the next 50 years. A former Govenor at the AHIP conference in San Diego made a good analogy of how big one Trillion is. "On million seconds is 2 weeks ago, one billion seconds is say 1968 when Lyndon J was in office, and one trillion seconds is 30,000 BC!!!!" SO, that is how big 1 trillion is!! Obama's budget deficit for this year is 2 Trillion! We could pay taxes FOREVER and not pay this monstrous debt down. The Democrats are spending us into oblivion just to satisfy their populist need to stay in power. GOVCO run healthcare will destroy the system and this country.

    40. Patti, Las Vegas says:

The reality is that if healthcare is nationalized the quality of it will erode over time. Observe Canada, England, France, etc. Perhaps only Sweden and Finland come out better because they get SO MUCH of their money from their O.I.L.

The question that needs to be debated in depth

      Check it out: http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/sendler.asp

      Remember this lady's name.

Irena Sendler – who recently died at 98 years of age, was a 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Nominee

During WWII, Irena was given permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a plumbing/sewer specialist. She had an ulterior motive.

Being German, Irena knew what the Nazi plan was for Jews.

Irena smuggled out infants in the bottom of a tool box she carried in the back of her truck. She used a burlap sack for bigger children.

      She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers wanted nothing to do with her dog. The barking covered noises of the infants and children.&nbs ;

Irena managed to smuggle out and save 2500 infants and children, before she was caught! The Nazi's broke both her legs and arms, and beat her severely.

Irena kept a record in a jar buried under a tree in her back yard of all the children she smuggled out.

After the war, she tried to locate all parents that may have survived to reunite families, but most had been gassed.

The children she could not reunite were placed with foster families or adopted.

Irena was nominated for the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected. Al Gore won for a slide show on Global Warming.

Just another left wing way of thinking!

This just points out that when people who are really the inmates in an asylum are given unConstitutional powers by their fellow inmates in Congress how this nation's sovereignty can be abused in a most carnal fashion. Michael Jackson King of Pop had more genuine talent in his little finger than this would-be king of arrogance.

As an environmental scientist and former professor of Physical Science, this global "warming" issue is merely another example of trying to gather as much political power and control over the American people, all the while nodding [or was that a "bow"?]in asinine obeyance to the same unsubstantiated mental disorder in Europe.

Please read our Constitution on the 4th of July, listen to some American music and try to appreciate this nation's heritages of freedom and the rule of law that makes it free. My immigrant grandparents thought that this was the most wonderful place on earth, and they were European aristocracy/royaly.

    49. Ben C, Ann Arbor, MI says:

For those who think government run health care is the answer: becareful – you might get it.

There are many parameters to the problem and it will not be a simple fix. Clearly, the Canadian and British systems are not the answer – ask those who come from Canada to Detroit for their medical care due to lack of government funds and physicians to deliver the care. Entitlement problems are not the answer – distribution of wealth is a disincentive to work (look at the former Soviet union).

For those who think government health care is the answer where do you think the extra physcians will come from and why would a person enter the medical field when income will be conrolled by governement? The very bright students will pursue other fields – not medicine. I know I would not enter the human medical field today given the current trends. next time you are being treated by a physician – ask "So what were your grades in medical school?" The answer might suprise you.

    56. Arnie Rosner, Founta says:

      Dear President Obama,

Thank you for your email. It is good of you to communicate directly. That way there can be no misunderstanding of your intent. Along that note, please allow me to respond in the same spirit in which you have written me.

Unlike you Mr. President I am incapable of expressing myself in the same elegant manner in which you present yourself. Also, I cannot skillfully deflect pointed questions in such a way as to avoid answering them. To do so, in my opinion, is dishonest. Therefore, I can only speak about what I believe to be the truth in this matter. So in regard to your healthcare plan let me say this….I simply don’t share your enthusiasm for the projected outcome or believe the accuracy of numbers you quote. Frankly Mr. President I don’t believe you or your numbers. I think this is a lie!

    57. Arnie Rosner, Founta says:

      Section 2

So far, in the first 100 days of your administration I have not seen any evidence to support the notion that any of your plans are working. As a result you have not earned any credibility with me on most of what you have proposed or enacted. Not just to be critical Mr. President, but based on my analysis of your current and prior experience before taking office, I have not found anything that could be remotely credited to you personally as experience in the management and resulting accountability for any measureable activity. So my conclusion is that while at one time you were popular, it appears the honeymoon is over.

Regardless, Mr. President, based on my personal observations of your performance you are not qualified to act in the capacity of any administrator, let alone the chief executive of the United States. I base this on the way you are making decisions and throwing money around; it appears to me as irresponsible. To be honest, I find your conduct unreasonable and I am led to believe that you are totally out of control.

I also find it difficult to understand how someone with no management or financial expertise, and your level of intelligence would not instinctively appreciate the need to be more cautious and take responsibility to make better decisions; Mr. President…this is no dress rehearsal. Thousands of American citizens are currently being affected by your decisions. What is even worse, in my humble opinion, millions will be affected for many generations to come.

I am confident you know full well the reasons behind your driven behavior. I suspect you know that you must get everything you can accomplished as quickly as you can before the evidence of your incompetence begins to appear faster than your damage control experts can possibly contain. It is as you state in the healthcare good news and I quote,

“We also have an unprecedented commitment from health care industry leaders, many of whom opposed health reform in the past. Monday, I met with some of these health care stakeholders, and they pledged to do their part to reduce the health care spending growth rate, saving more than two trillion dollars over the next ten years”

First there is a very large stretch from a commitment and a pledge to an achieved objective. If we go back into history of politics, I am guessing here but at the same time, confident we can illustrate the point that about 90% of such commitments and pledges never materialize. So I am sorry Mr. President your claims of future success are doubtful and irresponsible, to say the least, as they create false hope to those that can afford it the least. But then we all know the intent of professional politicians is to create the illusion of hope and success.

Show me one situation…just one, Mr. President, where a politician, any politician, has ever been held accountable for a promise or a commitment and or a pledge that failed to materialize.

    58. Arnie Rosner, Founta says:

      Section 3

Politicians, as an example, like you and Ms. Pelosi, who, just recently, speaking as speaker of the house, with no exception noted, even when the possibility of a qualification was offered by Wolf Blitzer of CNN, assured the American public that there would be no pork in the stimulus bill.
Did she deliberately tell a lie? I am absolutely convinced she did and this was just one more example of where outrageous claims and statements about events in the future are used by unscrupulous politicians to plant the psychological seed of a good deed by Ms. Pelosi. Like the street smart Ms. Pelosi, the seasoned politicians already know that people will most likely forget these claims when they fail to come true. In fact they depend on this being the case but they use the claim to ingratiate themselves into the minds of the less sophisticated members of our society. Just as you, Mr. President, are hoping to do here and now.

The sad and pathetic part is people seem to be so trusting and naïve they permit you to take the credit for these statements as though you were going to somehow miraculously deliver on such ridiculous claims. You are already counting on getting a free pass if these claims do not come to fruition…but of course someone will have to remember the commitment made 10 years in advance.

Now you know right now and I know…and I know you know…and you know I know you know, that no one…and I repeat NO ONE can predict such levels of performance into the future, let alone 10 years into the future. This is a basic political ploy that has been used for years.

Consider this Mr. President, if you had this clairvoyant ability, certainly the Wall Street financial issues would have been child’s play to resolve. You could have fixed it months ago and without committing every current American alive, plus the next two generations as well, to indentured servitude for the rest of their natural lives.

So in summary about your proposed healthcare plan…I am sorry I just don’t buy it or you either for that matter.

Just like their Government Health plan, it is way better than anything the normal citizen can buy and of course the citizens pay for it.

We need to force them to change and be equal with the rest of the Country.

The Greatest Job that anyone could do is to really educate the public as to what socialized medicine will really do to this country. Show more of what it has done in Canada, England and other countries.

Please concentrate on letting people know how our wonderful health care system in America will be destroyed by socialized medicine. It's imperative that this news get out. We must do a better job here at Heritage and other outlets to get the rest of the public aware of how bad it will be in this country if this passes!!

    64. Arnie Rosner, Founta says:

It is pretty apparent isn't it? As long as we focus our attention on saving our own skins (which is what the our legislators are delighted to see us squabble over) they continue to pass questionable legislation with little no opposition; and right under our noses.

While we are squabbling over "POOR ME" they are slitting our throats. Hey Wise up this is about saving America not about just a perceived benefit like health care.

On top of it our politicians lie about transparency and violate the spirit of the promises we accepted in good faith.

And you express comments like, "Force them?" Are you a bit over the top on that one? And just who will be the ones to "FORCE THEM"?

So far as far as the tax payer is concerned the light may be on in congress but no one is home to entertain guests.

    65. Martin Nicholson, Da says:

The comments by Arnie Rosner are hysterical in tone, overlong, convoluted and repititious. As such they do far more harm than good to the cause – the "I'm OK so stuff the other fellow" cause – than I could ever generate.

I'm a liberal, most of my family, friends and nneighbors are liberal, and support for this bill is very luke warm at best.

Liberals really don't like it, cause it doesn't make any effort to move away from for profit medicine to a euro style gov't plan.

However, most liberals still think the bill is better then nothing,{lib view points following – what people think, not a debate] since it will extend insurance to many people, and prevent some of the worst abuses of insurance companies, such as denial of coverge for pre exisiting conditions

NB: as i noted, this is what people think; i agree, but the correctness of these views is not the point – thie point is that liberals

DONT LIKE THE BILL, and like it less every day

Personally, I think this bill is going to be a redtape night mare that companies are going to exploit to make money, mainly by getting the law implemented into regulations that in effect make the law do the opposite of what it is supposed to.

I don't know how, but i am sure that the supposed benefit of no denial for pre exisiting conditions is going to be subverted somehow.

anyway, it would be nice if the libs and conservatives could unite, but I guess the gulf is to large – there is no common ground we can unite on (its like the GOP in the state of MA: they keep running these social conservatives for state office who don't stand a prayer; if they ran someone who was a fiscal conservative and a social moderate, they could probably capture the kennedy seat)
