  • Morning Bell: President Obama's Top Ten Apologies

Tomorrow at 6:10 AM EST, President Barack Obama will deliver a keynote address at Cairo University. If past experience is any guide, he will continue apologizing for America’s “mistakes” and bend over backward trying to explain that the United States is not a threat to Islam. The President has already apologized for his country to nearly 3 billion people across Europe, the Muslim world, and the Americas. His top ten apologies include:

    10. Apology for Guantanamo in Washington: “There is also no question that Guantanamo set back the moral authority that is America’s strongest currency in the world. … Rather than keeping us safer, the prison at Guantanamo has weakened American national security. It is a rallying cry for our enemies.”

    9. Apology for the Mistakes of the CIA: “So don’t be discouraged by what’s happened in the last few weeks. Don’t be discouraged that we have to acknowledge potentially we’ve made some mistakes.”

    8. Apology for U.S. Policy toward the Americas: “Too often, the United States has not pursued and sustained engagement with our neighbors. We have been too easily distracted by other priorities, and have failed to see that our own progress is tied directly to progress throughout the Americas.”

    7. Apology before the Turkish Parliament: “The United States is still working through some of our own darker periods in our history. … Our country still struggles with the legacies of slavery and segregation, the past treatment of Native Americans.”

    6. Apology for Guantanamo in France: “I don’t believe that there is a contradiction between our security and our values. And when you start sacrificing your values, when you lose yourself, then over the long term that will make you less secure.”

    5. Apology for the War on Terror: “Unfortunately, faced with an uncertain threat, our government made a series of hasty decisions. … In other words, we went off course.”

    4. Apology at the G-20 Summit of World Leaders: “I would like to think that with my election and the early decisions that we’ve made, that you’re starting to see some restoration of America’s standing in the world.”

    3. Apology to the Summit of the Americas: “While the United States has done much to promote peace and prosperity in the hemisphere, we have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms. … So I’m here to launch a new chapter of engagement that will be sustained throughout my administration. The United States will be willing to acknowledge past errors where those errors have been made.”

    2. Apology to the Muslim World: “We sometimes make mistakes. We have not been perfect.”

    1. Apology to France and Europe: “Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.”

As President Obama embarks this week on his second major overseas tour, which will take him to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Germany, and France, the world does not need yet another apology from the President. Mr. Obama’s mea culpa campaign has produced no outpouring of Muslim support for his policies. Instead of wallowing in guilt, President Obama should find a way to connect America’s tolerance of Islam with honest criticism of extremists who abuse others – Muslim as well as non-Muslim – in Islam’s name. After all, Muslims have suffered the most at the hands of Islamist extremists.

64 Responses to Morning Bell: President Obama's Top Ten Apologies

    1. Charles, Texas says:

In regards to Comrade Hussien Obama's first apology to France & Europe. He is right. On July 14th, we should copy the French (when they had intestinal fortitude) & have our own version of Bastile Day.

    2. Ozzy6900, CT says:

Actually, President Obama and Mrs. Obama should both shut their mouths as neither of them have any common sense or have any idea as to how to run or represent the United States. Neither of them should even be where they are as they never ran anything, stood for anything and have no pride in being an American.

Personal opinion, maybe. Truth – absolutley!

    3. Charles, Texas says:

Here is another suggestion for Comrade Obama. How about a public apology to all prior & current military service members that have been classified by DHS as "terrorist". How much "Blood & treasure" has been spent to give him the freedom to go abroad & insult a "Great Nation"?

    4. Jim Bower, St. Louis says:

The apologist-in-chief is living proof that elections have consequences. If we survive his presidency, I hope people will have awakened from their sleep and discovered what a total mess this country is. I also hope the Republican party can come up with a decent candidate…something sorely lacking in 2008.

    5. Ken Jarvis - Las Veg says:

      Interesting that the HF

didn't say any of the "apologies"

      were WRONG.

MOST of what he is "Apologizing"

      for are things BuSh did

      that the HF defends.

TO BAD THE GOP, Cs, AND HF

      ALL WANT AMERICA TO FAIL.

    6. MAS1916 - Denver, CO says:

Great list!! Love top ten lists! Obama is seeking to lead America to a place where it is well…less American.

Apologizing to the entire world for all the times other nations have been offended by actions of the United States is not a reliable foundation for building a believabble foreign policy. After all… the purpose of US foreign policy is to build a protection mechanism for those values that are uniquely belonging to the United States.

As Obama embarks on yet another Apology Tour, he has several objectives including apologizing for the issues noted above. (for a top ten list of these rather silly objectives, you can look at: http://firstconservative.com/blog/political-humor… )

    7. J.C. Hughes, Texas says:

As a conservative American and Texan, Obama definitely doesn't speak for me. But I do have one request of him, please make a personal apology for his own ineptness.

    8. jjay - Louisville, K says:

While he's at it, why not identify the links between the extremists "Christians" who justify torture; imprisonment and murder of civilians, calling it collateral damage; create illegal war to justify their own need for retribution. Let's also include those who justify the murder of a physician who helped women get on with their lives by providing them a service others would deny them, even if it meant the woman would die.

There are plenty of fringe faith "followers" who use religion to justify their outrage and their illegal as well as immoral actions. Why not condemn them all. There is no cause worth defending such action – none.

    9. Jake,LHC says:

I told my Mother we will have to apologize for obamas incompetentence for the next 100 years after he is tossed out of office in 2012 or sooner if impeached.

    10. Richard Cancemi, Ar says:

Since Obama Doesn't seem to be as articulate without his prepared teleprompter speeches, I wonder who does write his script? Who decides the content of what he delivers? Who is his puppet master?

Everything about Obama is anti-American;; so from where do his "orders" come?

Who is/are running (ruining) the USA?

    11. Whicket Williams Kin says:

As the public continues to be broke, revenues will continue to fall. We Must find a way to control this run away Government!

We need to change every elected official whose term is up in 2010. But we won't make it to 2010 if we don't discover a way to slow the spending.

    12. Jerry from Chicago says:

When candidate Obama was campaigning for the Presidency, I do not recall him telling the nation that his first priorities were going to include apologizing to all other countries for America's behavior. Implying that he, and only he, can restore America's lost moral authority reflects an arrogance born of ignorance. He shows no hesitation in attacking those who would disagree with him and his ideas. Talk about arrogance, dismissiveness and derisiveness, these are exactly the traits Mr. Obama exhibits when his policies are criticized. I believe that he should be apologizing to Americans for the vary things for which he blames his country.

When America looks to its own national interests, as every country on earth does, Mr. Obama somehow feels that this is morally objectionable. Mr. Obama has neither the depth of experience, nor the wisdom to lead this country successfully. He would obviously fare better leading an ashram, or a commune somewhere out of harms way, where all who dwell grow their own food, weave their own cloth, share all their resources, all the chores raise each other's children and hope for the best while singing 'kumbaya' to soft guitar strumming 'round a camp fire.

    13. michael hutchings says:

THE PRESIDENT SHOULD APOLOGIZE FOR BEING RUDE TO THOSE NATIONS WE HAVE OFFENDED BECAUSE A LOOK AT THEIR PAST AND CURRENT RECORDS WILL SHOW US TO BE AMATUERS IN THE ATROCITY BUISNESS.

NO DOUBT THEM HAVING TO LISTEN TO THE PENITENT IN CHIEF REMINDS THEM OF THE BLOOD ON THEIR OWN HANDS AND A MYRIAD OF OTHER DEEDS THAT WILL NOT BEAR CLOSE INSPECTION.

NO ONE LIKES TO KNOW WHEN THEY HAVE BEEN WEAK AND NOT LIVED UP TO ALL THEY COULD BE.

WE MAKE OUR PENANCE AS LAMBS BEFORE LIONS AND SELL OUR SUBSTANCE WHILE TOSSING BRIGHT COLORS ON THE WIND. WE EXPECT THEY WILL ALL LIKE US BECAUSE WE ARE MORAL AND DRIP HONEYED WORDS MIXED WITH AUTOCRATIC DEEDS.

SURELY THEY WILL LOVE US WHEN WE STRIVE TO BE AS THEY ARE AND COVER OUR SELVES WITH THE ASHES OF WHAT SO OFFENDS THEM AND PUT DOWN ARMS AND FACE WOLVES AS SHEEP AND LIFE AS ACCEPTING CATTLE.

THEY WILL LOVE US THEN. THEY MUST LOVE US AND SPEAK WELL OF US BUT TO WHAT END.

THIS THOUGHT PROCESS IS A SCHOOLED ONE AND A WELL THOUGHT OUT PIECE OF WORK EFFECTIVE ENOUGH TO HAVE FREE PEOPLE RENOUNCE THAT FREEDOM BECAUSE LIKE A SOUL SOLD TO THE DEVIL IT IS SO CLOSE TO THEM THEY FAIL TO SEE AND VALUE WHAT IT MEANS.

THIS SMACKS OF A NATIONAL REALITY SHOW BASED ON CONFRONTATIONS AT A DRUNKEN FAMILY REUNION BY RELATIVES FIGHTING OVER WHO MIGHT OR MIGHT HAVE STOLEN THE FAMILY SILVER. THE IMPORTANT HAS BEEN PLACED ON EQUAL FOOTING WITH THE PREPOSTEROUS.

AN APOLOGY IS OWED BY THOSE IN CHARGE WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER BUT DO NOT. THE CHILDRENS CRUSADE GOES ON WITH THE SAME RESULT IN THE OFFING THAT THE FIRST ONE HAD WHEN ADULTS HAD HAD ENOUGH OF FIGHTING AND THE POWERS THAT BE OF CHURCH AND STATE DELIVERED UP THEIR YOUNG OR SOME ONE ELSES TO THE SLAVERS BLOCK.

IS WHAT IS HAPPENNING TO US SO DIFFERENT NOW THAN IT WAS 700 HUNDRED YEARS AGO. I THINK NOT.

    14. Larry, in the Republ says:

Outstanding assembly of qoutes and verbage Mr. Carroll. I too share your desire to see this President actually go forth and speak prudently and justly. HE should do well to remember that WE are watching and many of us have had grandfathers, who fought to bring this Nation above reproach, and died to promote the very liberty and freedoms HE seeks to apologize for. Well said Mr. Carroll! MR. Obama would indeed do well to speak truly and to not assume that HE yields the power, and VELVET TONGUE,that those OTHER countries abroad wish to be kissed with. In short, I hope HE keeps his tongue to himself and speaks for the GOOD of our Great Nation, and not for his personal populaity gains-though real or otherwise.

    15. John franklin, wisco says:

You are so right on!! This guy is pathetic.

    16. Jennifer Jones, Fort says:

I try my best to be involved and contact my representatives, but the events that are occuring are far too rapid for me to keep up with. I fear this administration, with the help of Congress and the media, will push its plan into place before the People have a chance to know what is happening. Why is Obama in the Middle East without going to Isreal? Is there really a need to go there? We are broke and Obama keeps spending money faster that I can keep up with the numbers. I am scared out of my wits.

    17. wkt says:

How disheartening to discover America is not a perfect nation. All we need is one more person to remind us! And, who better than the perfect example of American "success!" Loved and adored by his legions of progressive fans. I am living an American nightmare.

    18. Larry, in the Republ says:

Dang JJ, you wrote your entire post comment in a relatively "English" langauge. I guess you can reluctantly thank a veteran of foreign wars for that honor you so graciously shared with the rest of us! Then you can get on with YOUR apologies for taking advantage of a right that exists solely through the sacrifice our troops have made on your communistic behalf! After all, YOU just got to love those rights you have becuase of STILL being free and having the LIBERTY to speak your mind! Do you see that your comments are like saying Intelligence and Diane Feinstein in the same sentence? It's an oxymoron! You have no oxy, I'm sure.

    19. David Sayers, NC says:

Impeach BHO the SOB. We don't have to apologize for anything. As for komrades' Ken and jjay, grow up,stop watching state run TV and trusting all you see and hear from the socialist marxist and get your head out of Pravda. When you get back from Mars and return to the real world, let us know. The Founding Fathers never intended for America to turn into the socialist second rate country that King Barry The Weak is trying to make it. In addition, there are a few million more of us who feel the same way. BHO has to go.

    20. Jonathan Seid, Willi says:

      Speak softly. Carry Big Stick.

    21. Pansylu says:

      Where are we going?

And why am I in this handbasket?

    22. emt001 says:

I think the governement gets away with to much. The citizens need to step in and say enough is enough. We need to take our country back away from the politicians.

All the federal stimilus money should not have went to the car companies or to banks. That money should have come back to the people after all we are the ones that can stimulate the economy. Now look GM and Chrysler are both in bankruptcy.

    23. Ben C, Ann Arbor, MI says:

It is clear there are very few students of history – especailly BHO. The Marine Hymn notes "to the shores of Tripolli" – our encounter with Islam several centuries ago when our nation was emerging. I suggest those who think we should be apologizing should study the history of Islam and you will realize their agenda. It wasn't until our country stood up to the pirates of the Barabry Coast that France, England, et al stopped paying tribute to the terriorists.

Rather than cut and paste a lengthy synopsis I suggest Ken from L.V. and other apologizers Google the above and perhaps you will gain some insight. I know I have.

    24. Ron, Derry NH says:

Is this what an American male has become?

I don’t know about you but I don’t make apologize for something I haven’t lived or done myself. Anybody who has the audacity to enthrone himself as the spokesperson of all that have come before, but has yet to sacrifice one ounce of effort for his fellow American out of his own blood or pocket has no right speaking for the millions that have.

This arrogance is belittling the leadership position of presidency to a juvenile level never before witnessed accept maybe in a British leader called Chamberlain. No decent man besmirches the lives and honor of those who have struggle before him by denouncing their efforts and making apologize for their given efforts. No one is perfect and neither is a man who uses the past shortfalls of mankind to elevate himself above them by pretending he has some innate wisdom not to be as imperfect as they.

I am amazed that anyone thinks a constant campaign to manage an image is being a leader.

America's need not apologize for being American as France needs not apologize for being French.

America need not apologize for slavery as it not only wasn't its inventor or its biggest supported but it sure as heck was a loud and painful voice of its demise, in our country.

Those that needed to apologize are perhaps laid to rest where they fought and died for its curse.Only an arrogant self righteous person would hold ancestry as a shame to elevate oneself above those that have toiled before under seemingly imperfect circumstances and events.

Much like yesterday, history will be written about today and the follies will be magnified as under a microscope and those that have enslaved MILLIONS with economic debt may be judge more harshly than those that enslaved what will be in comparison, a minor amount of people.

Will the current elitist make apologize for their actions today or wait for a professional apologist 150 years later, to emasculate the past for self serving purposes again?

    25. J.C. Hughes, Texas says:

JJay, your false accusations are the usual stereotypically hateful leftist propaganda directed at conservatives. Your verbal attack is against citizens you don't have the slightest clue about. So Mr. Crusader, look somewhere else for your monsters. You won't find them here.

    28. Phil, in Wisconsin says:

I believe Obama is correct in that the U.S does owe these apologies for the shoddy way the Bush administration acted, both criminally and unethically.

What I like about Obama is that he is not an ideologue, whereas Bush was.

And, come on. Obama inherited all of these problems. He did not cause them.

Get over it, and get behind the President.

    29. Normca says:

Kevin – you are an idiot. You don't belong in this forum. I see this forum as being for intelligent people; not drones who simply read what is easy to read and believe it. Go back and read the NY Times or Daily Coss [or whatever it is]. BO is a disgrace to apologize. You and your kind verbally assault good people and then accuse others of doing the same thing. Bush saved 50 million Muslims from tyrants. What is t apologize for. I find i interesting that everything and more you falsely accused President Bush for are being done by BO. Don't poison good communications with your BS. Go away!!

    30. Dick Ess Boston, Ma. says:

Perhaps Mr. Obama may take a minute to apoloize to the family members of US Military men and women who fought, died and were wounded in a war that he didn't even mention in his speech at the Tomb of the Unknowns. I guess losing more warriors in the 3 years of Korea than were lost in 10 years in Vietnam doesn't classify the action as a war. I guess it didn't get enough publicity for him and his young writers.

    31. Ron, Derry NH says:

There are some comrades here for comedic relief. They are appalled at GBush for the same reasons they love Obama. Every quote they enlighten us to proves that those that hate, hate and love the same; badly and with no evidence.

Here we seem to be in agreement as we bare witness to the slaughter of decency, morality, common sense and Americanism as we would berate Bush for it we do the same with the magpie.

However some seem to need to worship someone and give into them and at the moment it is the great fascist "O" and the swarm of followers who are willing to hope and not see and chastise others rather than be introspective.

The vision will fade but the blindness, loyalty and foolish worship are here to stay.

This is a religious fervor and it won't be quelled until the pain of reality hurts enough to make the indoctrinated blink and take their eyes of the imagined hope and change that was planted as a Utopian ideal that they thought would wipe away all the worlds worries.

Stay tuned for more Apologies and campaigning to avoid letting America fix itself by the will of each person by giving them the liberty of financial independence and enlightened education.

We will get neither because our government has failed to trust in the American people and have chosen money and rhetoric as their currency of power.

    32. Carolyn/WesternNC says:

Apologize for "arrogance, derisiveness and dismissiveness"…I think not! Welll, unless you apply those qualities to Mr. Obama himself, then by all means, we can all apologize. This man is an embarassment to Americans everywhere, and does not speak for me. His very posture, facial expressions and body language speak to just what he really thinks of the citizens he now represents. What an obomanation!

    33. Mike Sheahen, Hickor says:

From the article "President Obama's Top Ten Apologies", there is one major either deliberate or accidental (you decide) departure from the facts in the real world in "Instead of wallowing in guilt", followed by yet another wish list of "should", when the facts are:

      1. Obama is not "wallowing in guilt", but is instead, as always, going about demagoguing and pandering with his "blame America first", and thus demonstrating an old axiom of government power and money-gabbing tyrants which is "Blame anyone or everyone else, including your own people, for what you say and do", and so also perpetrating what a previous (National) Socialist named Hitler also did and said, as in "Make the lie big, make it simple, and eventually they will believe it", and "How fortunate for rulers that men do not think".

      2. So it is divorced from both the real world and reason to expect such a wish list of "should" to be done by such a "blame America first" demagoguing and pandering government elitist and statist power and money-grabber as Obama.

In fact, such is verifiably true about such "blame America first" demagoguing and pandering government elitists and statists such as Obama, and is uniquely so as he goes outside the U.S. to do so, especially among Arab/Islamic nations, of all degrees, since they have neither any real experience, foundation, and tradition in, nor therefore any such real appreciation of our founding principles of individual and corporate (meaning more than one private individual) freedom, and all of the incomparable benefits of such freedom to both us and others (including themselves) around the world; all of which makes them that much more likely to listen to and act on Obama's "blame America first" mantra, and he knows it!

The upshot is, such facts will remain so unless and until we, the people, do everything we can, as soon as we can, to defeat and remove Obama, and other government elitists and statists out of power and influence; or else such government elitists and statists will finish making America become a Socialist nation and thus finish trashing our founding and Constitutional principles and guarantees of limited government and free people

    35. Tony, Australia says:

Once again, I post a comment purely in an attempt to understand, not to criticise.

From my point of view, these apologies are a welcome acknowldgement that some of the policies pursued by the USA have had implictions for the citizens of other countries.

So I ask the question, why is this so bad? Why are you all so angry with him for engaging with the world?

    36. CHyatt Albuquerque says:

An apology is the least of our worries. Just like the rest of his policy it cost nothing and for the most part is hot air. What we should be worried about is the trillions of debt and his propensity to inject Muslim religion into our Government. Are we not suppose to separate church and state? Come on, when exactly will that happen? One hundred days ago the ship was sailing towards a waterfall, it has now gone over the edge. Enjoy the ride down.

    37. Christopher Popham S says:

Most of the comments fom Texas are right on target. But it doesn't seem to matter what part of the country you are in these days, because

the distrust of the new liberal government is

beginning to frighten Reps. and Dems. alike.

Maybe, just maybe, America will awake from its

long sleep in time to rise up and defend our

nation at home, where it counts, and BEFORE it's

      too late.

    38. Barb -mn says:

When is the president going to apologize to the people of America for his deception of his true agenda? His distortion of the concept of America? His distortion of a true American patriot? His depreciation for what this country has done for him throughout his life that he didn't have to do for himself?

    39. sherrill , NY/ NJ says:

The apology Obama should be making is to the American people for being such an idiot. He is acting like a spoiled child and we are all in the corner for his bad behavior. America owes no apologies for defending itself and acting to protect its citizens from those who wish us dead. Obama should go to these Muslims without the protection of the maligned servicemen and see how he fares under their understanding care. If he doesn't think this is the best country in the world, he should find another home and let us find a more adult leader.

    40. Whicket Williams Kin says:

After listening to his speech in Egypt, It seems that Obama lives in a fantasy land where he makes up facts to fit his version of reality with no regard for anything or anybody except the inside of his head.

    41. Joel Williams, Norcr says:

I am extremely upset that the President of the United States is making a trip to the Middle East that snubs our long time ally and friend, Israel. If Mr. Obama wants to apologize for something to anyone, it should be to Israel. The message that he's sending to Israel is shameful and the message that he's sending to the radical Arab world encourgages their ongoing and unacceptable behavior toward Israel.

    42. mac tx says:

NEW MEANING OF HOPE AND CHANGE. I HOPE I HAVE ENOUGH CHANGE TO MAKE ENDS MEET.

    43. Colleen - Savannah, says:

It is not surprising that Obama is so concentrated on apologizing to the Muslim's for our "bad behavior" when he has been tied to people like Rashid Khalidi of Columbia University, Dr. Khalid al Mansour (aka Don Warden)an advisor to Prince Alwaleed of Saudia Arabia (Abdul Aziz and Khalid al Ibrahim), and Reverend Wright. al-Mansour is a known radical black supremist Muslim watch some of his video's on u-tube. Prince Alwaleed is the Saudi billionaire best known in the United States for his offer to donate $10 million to help rebuild downtown Manhattan after the 9/11 attacks. But after the prince made a public comment suggesting that U.S. policies had contributed to causing the attacks, Mayor Rudy Giuliani handed back his check. Since then, Prince Alwaleed’s Kingdom Foundation has given millions of dollars to Muslim charities in the United States, including several whose leaders have been indicted on terrorism-related charges in federal courts.

He also has given tens of millions of dollars to Harvard and other major U.S. universities, to establish programs in ISLAMIC studies.

These are the kind of affiliations our new president has made (along w/ Ayers) over the years so its's no wonder he apologizes for our wonderful country who does more to enhance mankind than any nation on this planet!!! Which brings me to my anger today.

This morning I received a phone call that one of our close friends was just killed yesterday outside of Kabul, Afghanistan by an IED. He was a wonderful 39 year old man named John married to his high school sweetheart leaving behind a 13 year old boy and an 8 year old little girl. He was a patriot and the epitomy of all that is good in our country and our military HE WAS THE BEST OF US. I talked to his wife a little while ago and what she said struck a cord in my soul. She said while my husband just gave his life for our country our president is zipping around on AF1 apologizing to the Islamic world she said it was like a slap in the face…..

    44. Pat Md says:

I didn't vote for this man.Didn't trust him or like what he had to say before like him even less. He is selling our country down the road. Has he ever come out and stated what his religion really is? He has the gall to tell CEOs not to have their parties ast Las Vegas because of the money they spent, but it is alright for him to travel all over the world every week. This is another Republican telling us to do as we say not as we do. We need to have our Christan beliefs back in this country. In God I trust and believe.

    45. ella quinn kinston n says:

collen it brought tears to my eyes about your friends husband john who died for our country. Obama is a dog for what he is doing.

    46. Claire, Belleville, says:

Anthony of "Opie & Anthony" had it right on Red Eye last night: Obama should have "SORRY" painted on the bottom of Air Force One, and then do a few laps around the world to take care of all future apologies.

    47. Ray CT says:

Does he actually know what he's saying.T

    48. Ray New Milford, CT says:

Does he actually know what he's saying. The United States stands for Freedom for all and he's making excuses for our way of life.

He should be apologizing for his past and the debt he's putting this Country into. I didn't like him before and I sure don't like him now.

    49. Mary, Frederick MD says:

You call him a Republican? At least Bush didn't go after Americans for all their terrible crimes.

I didn't vote for Obama either and I don't trust him–not then, not now. And yes, the Crusades were not just a bloodbath against Islam; Western Europe was asked to help fight when Moslems began to take Syria, Lebanon, etc. Doesn't anybody know their history? Of course Europeans did more than their share of bloodshed, but that is part of war and Moslems did their share.

As for apologies, how dare he apologize to these countries. Who liberated Europe twice, when it had been taken over by Germany. Who helped liberate Asia from Japan? Did you hear him talk about that? Do Germany or Japan ever apologize? I've said this before but I'll say it again. I'm really tired of all this.

    50. Mary, Frederick MD says:

Colleen, I am terribly sorry for your friend, John, and his family. How tough to grow up without a father or to lose your husband. His family will be in my prayers.

I represent a Seattle Bankruptcy Attorney Firm and let me say this: I have no idea why we bailed out lending institutions without enforcing stringent regulation on lender recourse against borrowers with bad loans. It simply ticks me off. You give a money to a greedy kid and you expect the kid to share his candy? No way jose.

    62. Embrace the Truth says:

None of these are apologies. Here would be some examples of actual apologies that should have been made by the U.S. government but never were:

      1. To Chile: Sorry for having your democratically elected president Salvador Allende overthrown on behalf of American copper interests.

      2. To Iran: Sorry for in the early 1950s having the C.I.A. overthrow your democratically elected government under Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh on behalf of oil interests and emplacing Shah Pahlavi who answered to Americans in Foggy Bottom and had his own people kidnapped, tortured and killed on our behalf. (And sorry for having the C.I.A. train the Shah's brutal secret police SAVAK.)

      3. To Iran: Sorry for goading our then-buddy Saddam Hussein into launching an invasion of your country in 1980 when we were sore at you for overthrowing the puppet dictator Shah Pahlavi that we foisted on your country.

      4. To Iraq: Sorry for launching an unprovoked invasion of your country in March 2003 on behalf of oil interests. And sorry for turning your country into a carcinogenic wasteland by allowing our military to use profligate amounts of depleted uranium munitions. Oops. Our bad.

    63. Embrace the Truth says:

      5. To Cuba: Sorry for the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961.

      6. To Latin America as a whole: Sorry for training your militaries in the most effective methods of torture so they could go back to their home countries and torture dissidents and trade unionists on behalf of their right-wing U.S.-friendly puppet governments.

Et cetera. THOSE would be apologies.

So let me get this straight: from a conservative point of view, no president or presidential candidate is ever allowed to admit that the U.S. has ever made any mistakes in the past or had any troubles, can't admit that it has ever done anything that was even a hair's breadth less than perfect. Conservatives are what makes this country such a laughingstock in the eyes of the rest of the industrialized world.

    64. Embrace the Truth says:

The problem is not with someone apologizing for America's numerous crimes against humanity. The problem you conservatives have is in hearing the truth, that America HAS in fact been an enormous bully, an imperialist, constantly meddling in smaller countries' internal affairs on behalf of American big business interests. That America HAS in fact had numerous domestic problems of its own whose legacies are still with us. You love the perfect America that has never made any mistakes, never acted belligerently, never taken advantage of others. In short you love an America that never has existed. Enjoy your love affair with mythology.
